Robby is a great communicator in speech and prose. His writing is encouraging, biblical, and practical. You can tell he has the new Christian and maturing believer in mind when writing. I have great respect for this man, and appreciate his ministry. This book is particularly interesting in that it shines more light on the context of Jesus' time and the audience to which He was speaking. I highly recommend this book.

We proclaim that "context is king". But what do we really know about Jewishness of Jesus? Can we really have an accurate interpretation of New Testament outside the context of the Old? Fortunately Robby Gallaty has provided The Forgotten Jesus as a resource to those of us who are deficient in our understanding.

"By placing Jesus back into the context from which He came, we are able to see more clearly the miracles He performed, the lessons He taught, and the mission He fulfilled. Ultimately, the goal of this knowledge is not to fill your head with useless facts, but to instill in you a hunger to read and study God's Word."

The Forgotten Jesus by Dr. Robby Gallaty is a must read for anyone desiring to know Christ in a deeper way. Having a better understanding of the Old Testament and Jewish customs enabled me to have a deeper knowledge of the context of Jesus’ life and ministry in the gospels. I was blessed to see the Lord Jesus in a new and fresh way as Robby shared sound biblical insight about Jesus from a Hebraic perspective. I can honestly say that my life has been enriched and encouraged through reading this book and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This book is an amazing story about Jesus and his life in the Jewish culture. Robby digs deep into the Old testament and how it comes together to shape the Gospels as we know it and how it really defines the ministry of Jesus. Readers will very much enjoy uncovering a different perspective of Jesus through the lens of a the Jewish Rabbi, in a time before the new testament was written. Another excellant book from an excellant author and pastor.

With "The Forgotten Jesus," Robby Gallaty is going into new territory with his writing. I have gone through "Growing Up" in a small group. I have already read his book, "Firmly Planted." I think "The Forgotten Jesus" works very well for those who have gone through his previous works (especially Growing Up). In those volumes, Gallaty emphasizes the importance of studying God's word in context. "The Forgotten Jesus" helps the reader understand the cultural setting of the Gospels. We are reminded that to understand the New Testament, we need to know the Old Testament. His writing is engaging, thought provoking, and accessible. I appreciate Gallaty covering this neglected focus of Christian study.

Forgotten Jesus has really opened my eyes to the life and culture surrounding Jesus. I've enjoyed reading my Bible with a fresh perspective and understanding. I can't say enough how it brought Jesus' words to a new level... understanding His words in the context of Jewish life. I felt like I was taken back in time to listen and learn with the early disciples. This book is worth the read!

I love the Old Testament and love how Robby takes the very thing that was to show the people of Jesus' day that He was the Messiah, and shows how the Old Testament reveals Jesus. I have always thought about the things that he (Robby) wrote about in this book. It was very good in explaining the Old Testament in a way I could understand, (seeing I'm far from an Hebrew scholar) and showing Christ as He was to be seen, that is His Jewishness. Really did enjoy the book. Totally recommend it for those who love the Old Testament and seeing Jesus revealed through it.

Robby Gallaty's latest release The Forgotten Jesus is what I'd call a healthy read. I received this book as a pre-release review but it was on my list to purchase anyways, because Gallaty's other books have all influenced my life. It's not a book you'll want to breeze through because of the content, and it's not a book that will leave you searching for answers because there are a lot of them inside. As a student pastor, I've already used some of the examples in the book to teach specific things to my students, and this book personally opened my eyes to Jewish elements that are often overlooked. If you're considering educating yourself in these things, pick up this one and dive in. You'll be glad you did.

I absolutely loved this book. Robby Gallaty challenges much of the status quo thinking of our western culture when it comes to Jesus. We need to understand just how important a proper reading of the Old Testament is to enlighten us as we read the New Testament. I feel I have a much greater understanding of the culture and context in which Jesus lived and ministered after reading this book. The Forgotten Jesus is now required reading for my staff and summer intern. Every Bible expositor needs to read this book. At times you will feel challenged by the opportunities you may have missed in past sermons, but you will be much better equipped for the future.

This book has been instrumental in helping me to think of the particular context of all I read in the gospels, and in the remainder of the New Testament. As I've read the Bible through my western lenses, I have been ignorant of much of the rich, deep Jewish background into which Jesus came and out of which the gospel flowed. Sure, like most, I've heard the most popular teachings on what this parable means or what that teaching is designed to communicate. Robby Gallaty takes us deeper into the Jewish thought and communication process than I've ever been. What great insights! You will be blessed to read this book!

As modern readers of scripture we tend to apply filters to what we read or rush to find applications for today without considering how the first audience of scripture would understand the text. This is especially true of Jesus. Robby Gallaty gives contemporary followers and seekers of Jesus a gift--an unfiltered view of our Master set in his cultural and historical context. His book will provide color and texture to the gospel accounts helping us see them as they would have been understood by a middle eastern audience. It will deepen your understanding of and love for Jesus. Follow Him!

I have followed Robby Gallaty's ministry for some time now and I was greatly anticipating this release. The Forgotten Jesus has not disappointed. This book is a great example of how contextualizion of scripture is so vitally important. It will walk the reader through a better understanding of the context of scriptures and the early disciples understanding of who Jesus was and what he represented. Armed with this understanding the scriptures will open up to you in a more clear and thought provoking way. I believe this book belongs in your library.

I have been savoring this book in small pieces every day first thing in the morning, but on the other hand I don't want to stop reading it after I pick it up. I enjoy digging deep into the myriad reasons why Jesus was, in fact, the Messiah, and the reasons why the people who were there when he was alive missed the realization. The book brings the divinity of Jesus into focus by explaining the culture and the environment in which he lived at that time.
If you want to know Jesus on a deeper personal, historical and cultural level, this book is the vehicle.

If you are even remotely interested in the Jewish roots of your Christian heritage this book is for you. When we understand how the Old Testament and Jewish culture is woven into the life, words and actions of Jesus it adds another layer of God's profound sovereignty. You will walk away from this book amazed at how God has worked through the Jewish culture and the fulfillment of Christ. Your faith will be strengthened.

This book is an excellent read into the Jewishness of Jesus. As Westerners we often forget that Jesus was raised as a Jew in a Jewish setting. The incredible research and illustrations given, better help us all to understand what the Jewish world was like during the time of Jesus. This allows us to correctly read and understand the scriptures. Many sermons helps will be found in this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. At the same time, I was stretched in my thinking.

Few books have opened my eyes to Jesus of Nazareth, the way that this one has. Robby has done a masterful job of helping us as Western Christians see Jesus through a Jewish lens! I just recently finished this book and am using it for study notes for our Community Group! The hours of research and precision of writing must have been immense. He poured over this book, getting it all down and palatable for easy digestion for the lay person. Highly Recommended! Go and grab some copies now!

The title is misleading. I expected discussion of Judaism and its practices but there was not a lot of information. The author does tell a few facts about the culture, etc. but most of it is his interpretation of the texts. Very basic stuff and aimed at those tending to be fundamentalist in thinking. His is a very faith-based understanding, taking the texts literally it seems. I couldn't finish more than a chapter or two; I returned it. You may find it useful if you grew up in the evangelical tradition.

I really enjoyed this book! It displays thoughts that as students of the Bible we know, but tend to forget. Gallaty's book helps us to better understand the Jewish context in which the Messiah was to be revealed and the importance of the Old Testament to the revelation of that truth. It is a great read for the scholar, preacher or even the seeker looking to further study the truths of the gospel. You won't be disappointed!

If you are considering getting this book, I highly recommend it. I have heard Pastor Robby Gallaty speak and preach at times and have been blown away by his faithfulness. As a young believer, he introduced me to new ideas that I had never thought of; and he goes into even more depth in his book "The Forgotten Jesus." For a long time, it was difficult for me to see the relation between the Old and New Testament. However, after reading this book, I feel that I am able to relate to and see Jesus in a whole new light.

Many of us in our Western Culture, myself included, have become accustomed to the culture that we live in, no surprise there. However, Jesus lived in a completely different culture. He saw situations and events differently, He related to people in a different way, He though differently than we did, etc. In this book, Pastor Robby sheds light on these cultural differences; and how viewing Jesus through an Eastern lens rather than a Western lens can give us a completely new outlook on Jesus and the impact that He has on our lives.

Robby Gallaty is a GREAT proclaimer and teacher of the Gospel. His ability to make the connection between the Old and New Testaments and how both are purposed for correct living is outstanding. If you are new to the faith or been a part of the Christian faith all of your life, I encourage you to get a copy of this book and you will mature in your Biblical comprehension in ways that you have never imagined.

After reading The Forgotten Jesus, I began to see scripture in a different light. I have always looked at scripture from a mindset influenced by western culture, and presuppositions. Robby Gallaty does a fantastic job in this book helping you understand the importance of viewing scripture from the Eastern mindset in order to fully grasp what was being said and written. Pick up this book! You will not be disappointed.

#EveryYouthPastor must read this book by Robby Gallaty! This book will be a helpful resource to you as you seek to breakthrough the apathy of "heard that before" churchy, student ministry culture. Robby will fill in the Gospel-gaps of many already familiar stories, events, and characters of Scripture. It will bring freshness to both your preaching and personal growth in Jesus!

Really looking forward to reading this book. Robby's other books, particularly Rediscovering Discipleship and Growing Up, have made not only a lasting impression on me, but has made a lasting impression on others when I've made the recommendation. I'm mostly excited to see how this book will help me see and savor the Jesus of the Scriptures in His context and in His cultural perspective.

Pastor Robby answers the questions that I didn't know to ask. I always felt like there were connections that I was missing between the OT and NT. The Forgotten Jesus is one of my favorite books of all time... I am learning to know and love Jesus more than I ever have. I will be leading my DGroup through this book and have already recommended this resource to many pastor friends. Love love love this book!

Every Christian should have this book. As a Pastor, I sometimes forget that Jesus was from a different time with many traditions that get lost in our American culture. These cultural differences are significant to an accurate understanding of our Messiah. Robby has done an excellent job of bringing those cultural differences out while keeping Jesus the focus of our greatest need.

An intriguing and insightful look at the Messiah that puts some of the things we think we understand into their cultural context. Robby doesn't seek to provide new interpretations, but to give a deeper understanding. Great read for anyone wanting to appreciate the Scriptures more.

Pastor Robby, through this book, gives us the proper lenses to understanding Jesus at the cultural level and then how to follow Him. This is much needed in not only our churches but society as well as they seek to shape and form Jesus into their own image. I am grateful to God for how He is using and will continue to use you Pastor!-Williamson Deavours
