I have enjoyed James Doss novels for sometime and find his humor delightful. I think this last book must have been a struggle for him. There was too little of "Aunt Daisy" and too much dialog to draw the ending together.

I was so saddened to learn that the author, James Danny Doss, had passed away in May, 2012. So this is the last book in the Charlie Moon series. I will miss all the characters, especially Aunt Daisy Perika, but all good things usually do come to an end. Many other reviewers have commented on this book's darker side. I will leave the reader to judge. And some of the harsher criticisms were obviously made not knowing the history of the author's demise. RIP James D Doss-your stories will be missed.

Once again, James Doss, in his unusual writing style tricks the reader. I had to go back and re-read the book to see where I went astray. His books are entertaining with such unusual characters that the readers grow to love (even Aunt Daisy).

This is one of his best, keeping you guessing (wrongly) right up until the last. Unfortunately, it's his last as well--never will find out if poor Charlie ever gets a wife (although one little girl thinks he will).

James Doss brings all of his characters to life with their own unique quirks. I loved Tony Hillerman's books, but I have to admit Mr. Doss adds sparks of humor and sass to make the reading even more enjoyable. I recommend this entire series.

I really enjoyed all James Doss's Charley Moon Mysteries. I will miss Charley and especially Aunt Daisy. I have read reviews that dismiss James Doss as a writer. I find his low key, intertwined mysteries a delight to escape into. If you enjoy Margaret Coel or Tony Hillerman, you'll enjoy James Doss. This last novel as well as the previous one were written in the 3rd person. It takes getting use to but I felt I was listening to James Doss tell a story around the campfire. Thank you James for your clever and enjoyable mysteries.

A little too much cutesy repartee makes it difficult to stay engaged with a fairly interesting plot with a surprising ending. Flipping pages does move it along, some unneeded deaths eliminate some interesting character but Charlie and his aunt still carry this series nicely.

I have read several of the Charlie Moon mysteries, and they have become increasingly silly over time, in my opinion. I could not finish this one… the author seemed obsessed with putting in "cute" comments in at least every other paragraph--sometimes, more frequently. The author evidently wanted to impress us with his cleverness at turning phrases, but enough, already. I found it wearisome and just wanted the story to proceed without all of the slapstick. I enjoyed his earlier writing a lot more.

Extremely well written with many surprises. Nothing surprising about this being a great book, would expect nothing less from James D. Doss. Will miss his writing very much, but will be able to enjoy all 17 of the Charlie Moon series. Highly recommend this book and all his works.

Absolutely and thoroughly fabulous, as all of James Doss's
books are--but beyond absolutely and thoroughly fabulous, Old Gray Wolf is exquisite. I will always miss you, James Doss. Thank you.

I looked forward to, and enjoyed Doss's, Charlie Moon books in the past. His writing style has changed, and become so flowery, metaphor laden, and full of "cute" references, that it is difficult and annoying to read. I really miss the old Doss. His stories were much more fun then. Please come back to us. We miss you.

I know grammarians will accuse me of mispelling something unit he did write til the end. Of the story and his terrestrial sojourn. But there were rivers to cross and I for one will miss the Old Gray Wolf whether he was wearing a fedora or a cowboy hat and thank him kindly for letting me. Draw my own conclusions as to the conclusion!
