Mr. Griffin had to REALLY really work for a premise for this novel. We have a Marine aviator who is an ACE from Guadalcanal (where else?) who has a Argentine father who just happens to be leading a coup d'etat against the government. Oh by the way, the Marine has never met his daddy.
He is recruited by the OSS to A) convert his father to side of light and goodness from leaning toward the Nazis and B) help stop the Nazis from their illegal re-supply of submarines in the South Atlantic.
How he does it is a convoluted W.E.B. Griffin tale, that is a lot of fun.
It is a real good read.

After reading (and enjoying) many books in other series by Griffin, I have more recently read both Honor Bound and Blood & Honor. While Griffin still paints the details and atmosphere of wartime Argentina, I found Blood & Honor to fall short. I didn't have the gripping power of his other books and when it was all said and done, I'm not so sure I want to move on to book 3 in the series. I violated my own "100 page rule" (if you are not gripped by the first 100 pages, stop reading) and finished the book, much to my dismay. On the bright side I have validated the 100 Page Rule!
Victory and Honor (Honor Bound) :: The Honor of Spies (Honor Bound) :: Bound by Honor (Born in Blood Mafia Series) (Volume 1) :: Bound By Hatred (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles Book 3) :: Secret Honor (HONOR BOUND Book 3)

Having read every book W.E.B. Griffin has written(including books published under assumed names) I feel like I could sometimes write these stories. I enjoy the descriptive nature of his books, except when they appear in several books in a series and you are forced to skip a few lines. Blood and Honor is a very good read. I now can describe every square inch of a Horche Convertable or a bottle of bourbon. W.E.B. Griffin's sense of timing is what makes this book good. I would prefer to see more of the Corps series or even the Men in Blue series, but this is a great intermission

Love this series! Colonel Jorge Guillermo Frade is shot cold-blooded in his native Argentina, because he is beginning to sympathize with the Americans in the war. How will his son, Major Cletus Howell Frade, of the USMCR react?
What assignment will the special OSS agents have this time?
Sequel to Honor Bound. Hans-Peter von Wachtstein, Tony Pelosi, David Ettinger, Subofficial Mayor Enrico Rodriguez, Colonel Graham, Dorotea Mallin, all return.

An interesting view of history in novel form. The story is not as spell binding as other WEB G books but still had the ability to hold my interest from cover to cover.
Enough historical "facts" to keep the interest up in what would otherwise be a delay in finding out what has befallin the Marines in the South Pacific. I still recommend this book. However if it the first WEB G book you are going to read start with the first of the Brotherhood books or the first of the Corps books to fall compleatly under the WEB G spell.

The book was written in great detail. Griffin went beyond what we know as history explaining things that are not told in history books. I love all his books. If I had to give one criticism I would like to see better endings.

This book keeps your interest with an interesting supposition of how events played out in bringing Peron to power. Many pages could have been skipped if there was a little key in the margin that denoted when the author was developing characters that had been done in the previous book, then I could have skipped ahead to where the story picked up again. I believe there will be others in the series, since the ending was missing closure, especially in the arena of who will appear in other books.

I also loved this book. While it was disappointing to see Cletus's father killed off early in the book, it was necessary for the story to develop, because Griffin weaves a fictional story around historical facts. In real life, Ramirez and Peron led the military junta that took over Argentina, so something had to be done to get Colonel Frade out of the way.
Again, not only are Griffin's books good, you can learn some history while reading them.

Instead of covering his characters over a period of many years as he usually does with his military characters, Griffin restricts himself to a relatively brief period of a few months. He also uses an original twist: World War Two covert warfare in neutral Argentina. A great read.

In general, people who review books fall into two categories: (1) "hooked on..." folks (like me), and (2) Self-styled critics, that live to criticize - even if there is nothing to criticise, and they don't even know why they read the book. "Blood & Honor" was another in the ongoing productions of Mr. Griffin that so enthralled all of us "hookies" since the first series. I've read every one, by the way, and can never wait till the next in whichever series arrives for us. Bravo W.E.B. - and please, please continue. Many thanks, Jim Malone

As with The Corps and the Officers Honor Bound is outstanding. Once I start reading it is very hard for me to put the book down. WEB Griffin is by far my favorite author and has been for some time. When I finish rereading the Honor Bound series and The Corps I'll start over on the Officers.

Maybe I have read too much (everything) by Mr Griffin but his work becomes too predictable. If one has read the first
in this series and the first 100 pages or so of this book you can turn to, and read the last twenty-five and be comfortable that nothing
worth your time has been missed

With his return, Major Cletus Frade becomes involved with not only fulfilling the OSS mission but participating in the 1943 coup d'etat in which a military junta attempts to overthrow the government of Argentina.
As if that's not enough, Clete finds himself an expectant father and in the process of becoming wed.
Excitement abounds.
