This is a very informative book meant for older children. It's very long-winded, so small children would have difficulty paying attention to the whole book in one sitting. I also must admit I was a bit taken back by the reference to the baby "coming out of an opening between mom's legs". I just wish I had known about that graphic reference before purchasing, as that one was a bit difficult to "skip over" and explain to my 6-year-old. We haven't quite gotten to the point of explaining the "birds & the bees" in such detail at her age. I didn't mind the explanation of breast feeding at all, since I'm a strong advocate and plan to breast feed with my newest little one too and don't mind my kids being exposed to that idea beforehand.

I thought the title of the book was very misleading as I falsely assumed it would be similar to the book "Dragons love tacos".
I wouldn't have been as disappointed if it had a better and accurate title, which should have reflected the actual content and how this is a much more technical book about babies than I wanted for my son. I think the material is good, however, not what I was expecting. Perhaps this is an example of how going to a bookstore is more effective than buying something off reviews and product description.

I wish I had read the reviews before buying this. I thought the cute title would be a cute funny book about babies. When I received the book, it was not what I was looking for. The descriptives about a baby being pushed out through an opening between mom's legs and drinking milk from mom's breasts was not what I was looking for. Thankfully I am able to return the book

This is a fantastic book! It is fun and entertaining. This book presents factual information regarding the waiting and welcoming of a baby into the household. It is very inclusive and even talks about premature babies and adoption. While discussing the exciting times with a new baby, it also recognizes some of the uneasy feelings of the older sibling/s. One of my favorite lines in the book is "Sometimes you might want your parents to send your baby far, far away (but you know they won't)." It is accompanied by an adorable "Timbuktu" picture. This book would be serve as a wonderful big brother/big sister gift!

I was so pleased to see that adoption is included as just one other way to add a new baby to a family. Ms. Danzig has such a comfortable, factual way of treating all the events -- pregnancy, birth, coming home and then continues on with baby's development. I love the way she blends the excitement of a new baby with the inevitable downside, and does it with an overriding message of unconditional love and understanding. What a great way to demonstrate the best of parenting and being a big brother or sister! Charming and a must-have.

I put this book in our waiting room. The expectant kids love it. The author really seems to know what issues are important to these big siblings-to-be. The information is complete and accurate but charmingly presented: "they grow in the uterus, or womb, a special place for babies below moms stomach. (It's not where mom's food goes)" If you only get one book, this is it.

This is an excellent book--perfect for the siblings of newborns. I have shared it with several of my 2nd grade students (and their families) who will soon have new brothers or sisters. They love the illustrations and the text itself leads to some great questions! This book is not meant to be read in a single setting--it should be spread out for several days.
