The characters spoken to my heart. They were bold but yet they always knew where they stood with each other. It has been a while since I have read the book. But I true enjoy reading it. In fact, once I started reading it, I could not stop until I had read the whole book til the end. PLEASE keep writing the books. They take me to different places other than my life. And don't we all need that sometimes.

Let me start by saying this is reasonably well-written and this is important however it is obvious that this is a beyond similar to Fifty Shades. Changing to aliens doesn't fool a lot of people. If you are to use an idea from somewhere else then maybe think harder. Do two books not three, forget the student, I mean I realise nothing is original these days but obvious is not the way to go either.
Aside from that it had some interesting elements but not enough to have me continue unless they make the next two books free as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was different than the normal paranormal I have read. The author combined aliens with a different kind of vampire. The story centers on a human Mia being pursued by an alien Korum. The story kept me interested throughout, I felt it gave me just enough background to understand the world they lived in yet moving along at a good pace. (I can get very antsy if its too slow or have too much detail that I don't care about). I enjoy a good steamy romance and this book delivered it. I liked that throughout the book Mia grew from an immature girl to a woman who took responsibility for the decisions she made, right or wrong. The author also very eloquently made me feel Mia's indecision and regret over doing what she thought was right. Korum was a very strong alpha who didn't care about anything but having Mia with him no matter what she did. I felt the attraction between the two of them and yes it was instant lust but hey when you read a fantasy like this that's kinda what you expect. I already purchased and read the second book. I really wouldn't call it a cliffhanger that had me wanting to scream at my kindle, it was more of an "Aw hell now I want to read the next one like now before I have to reread it so its fresh in my mind"
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sexy paranormal or hot fantasy/sci-fi.
I would also buy more books from this author because I like her writing style.

This novel was a great surprise. It's well written. It's got a solid story. I read ALOT... And I was surprised some of the intricacies of the story. And those intricacies, the perfectly paced development of the characters and their natures are what makes this work stand out. I'm thinking it's definitely a well written cross genre-science fiction and romance- with some well researched hard science thrown in for lagniappe.
While the sex is more explicit than I expected, it's neither vulgar nor gratuitous....and in fact there is an uncommon degree of honesty in the relationship between the leads.
I'll definitely budget for the rest of this series; hell, I think I'll pre-order now.

Overall I found this series to be enjoyable. At first I found myself frustrated with the development of the main characters but as Mia and Korum's story and relationship progress throughout, they began to feel more real and relatable (well as relatable as you can feel towards an alien lol!) I would've loved Mia to have a more annalistic personality considering she was studying psychology. I think that would've made some interesting situations between her and Korum but that is just a personal preference. I think the writer wrote Korum's character really well as there were times when I bordered on truly disliking him and his treatment of Mia but the writer shows you other facets to his personality that make his often brutish arrogance almost charming.

I found the heroine annoying. She is retired and acts ferried for basically the entire book because of the stories she has heard about the alien species the hero is from. She whines pretty much the entire book about how controlling he is. And in some situations he is controlling but in most situations she just assumes he will be.
He is bossy, controlling and conceited but he does all the cooking, laundry, and is, in general, kind to her in a way that does not support the abuse comments I read from others.
The heroine is my biggest complaint

Close Liaisons was better than several of the other free books I have read. I did have trouble liking the main characters though. Mia seems very childish at times more like a teenager than the college student she is suppose to be. I wanted to be able to like Korum but the relationship just seemed so mentally abusive most of the time that I found myself hoping they didn't end up together. The story line in itself was not bad and I enjoyed the creative way the alien race was portrayed. I will probably read the next book in the hopes that the characters an their relationship has progressed to something more grown up and less possessive.

I really enjoyed that this storyline was not your typical alien invasion. It was very well thought out and almost seemed real. I think the love scenes could have been a little toned down and not so brutal. However, it is a romance story. Over all it was worth the time to read!

Exciting story I couldn't put down. Too IMAGE such a life in the future. So much hits close to home. How our world and our bodies have been abused over the decades. Exciting, sexual, breath taking, let's your imagination run. You read this first book and you WANT to read the next one. Wonderful writing. I rarely write a review BUT I wanted to share my thoughts when I finished the book. Thank you Anna.

I use the term erotica because this is beyond romance. The love scenes are "stunning" and not light in content. It is rare to find a science fiction author who gives a background so quickly at the beginning of the story which places the reader in the time frame and context of the storyline. The characters are well developed and the story, while completely older guy with young college co-ed is "a bit unrealistic" -- that is WHAT science fiction IS -- unrealistic. This is one of my favorite romance novels and I look forward to MORE MORE MORE in the series. It gave me the sizzle and science fiction that I was looking for in a unique story that did not feel like a copycat of other author's!! (thank god!) KEEP THEM COMING... I WILL BE WATCHING THIS AUTHOR!!

WOW!!! OH WOW!!! I could not put this book down!!! Anna Zaires will definitely be one of my new favorite authors that I will watch for new books on. "Close Liaisons" was amazing. I will admit that I wasn't sure about "aliens" and humans but WOW! Korum is super sexy and attentive. Yes, bossy, egotistical, domineering male but definitely swoon worthy. Mia is a meek, naive, young girl who falls into the "spider's web." The sex scenes will leave you panting. I caught myself holding my breath as I read thinking DAMN!! Where can I find me a Korum! Can you imagine having to decide whether to betray or stand beside the man you have a love/hate relationship with? I felt myself shifting back and forth trying to decide for Mia. This book has it all! It pulls you right in from the very beginning.
"Close Liaisons" also had its own air of mystery and deception added with romance which makes for an amazing book. Zaires also leaves you wanting more of Korum and Mia's story. I had to download the second book immediately. You must add this to your TBR list. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a great PA romance novel.

I really enjoyed this unique story, I think i found a new author! I would definitely buy the next installation of this new series. The only negative thing I have to say was that sometimes the main gals naivety was overly annoying but at least I can say she stayed in character through the whole book. I also wished I had more history on the main man's character. But all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it all in one sitting....I couldn't find a boring spot to bookmark.

I really enjoyed reading this first book of the series. The characters were well developed and I enjoyed all of the futuristic touches including the technology and rather surprising ending. While the story dragged a bit in the middle, the author really did a great job of building the suspense toward the end. It was real page turner to say the least. She took me to the very edge and did a fine job of setting things up for the next book in the series.

I have already bought the series and was not aware that I already had this book. Anna weaves a steamy tale of an alien who loves one for life. I will not say more to insure that the story is not a spoiler. Great book!

If you like alpha males with a strong sensual streak, you've come to the right place. The Krinar have mostly peacefully invaded Earth, but there is hidden resistance among the humans. When Mia is singled out as a mate for one of the top Krinar leaders, the resistance approaches her to do some good for humanity. The relationship was a bit less consensual than some might be comfortable with, but there was no rape or anything like that. I am interested to know what is in store for Mia next as the mate to an alien.

This is a entertaining story. This is an exciting somewhat intense read about interest at first sight. He finds her fascinating. She has a fear and fascination with him. She allows herself to be pull into a situation without learning all of the facts. He cares enough about her to not exact revenge for her treachery. Enjoy I did.

I enjoyed the Krinar Chronicles, Had to put aside some of my religious beliefs so that I could get into the concept of who created earthlings but, hey, it;s fiction. I enjoyed the love scenes, but felt like there was too much. (and I like sex in my books). I felt like the author did a good job of holding my attention and making want to finish all three books. Good story line and character development. Zaires is an author I will check out routinely.

The heroine is probably the dumbest girl I have ever read about. SPOILER ALERT! She meets this alien who admits to stalking her and doing a background check on her but decides to sleep with him anyway, even though she fears for life. From then on he proceeds to cut her off from her friends and family, monopolizing her time. During this whole time she never loses the fear that he'd kill her. He becomes possessive and dominating thru out their whole so called relationship. Then she agrees to help humans rebelling against the aliens...she agrees even though she fears she may be falling for the alien who won't let her go places without him or dressed provocatively. I would like to blame her stupidity on being young but I'm sure if you have to refrain from going into fight or flight every time you saw your lover you should know the relationship isn't healthy. This book was so freaking dumb.

I really enjoyed the characters. I thought that she was ignorant for most of the story which I thought that was surprising due to her college status. The relationship seemed forced the whole time and I needed some softening to be believable. I hope the next one is better.

Pure alpha male hotness! Korum was intense, intimidating, sex, a brute and just down right awesome. The author gives you a summary of the story so I'll skip that and talk about what really counts.
It's a hot read(sex scenes set my kindle on fire)
Mia is a virgin but gives major attitude and sass which I love
The graphic descriptions the author gives us is fantastic(I can picture Korum' s homeland and inventions)
All I can say is I plan on purchasing the whole series..

This is a well-written story with taut pacing, engrossing plot, rich descriptions, and plenty of steamy sex. I wouldn't call it a romance, though.
(SPOILER ALERT)
The Hero has a Jekyl and Hyde personality -- he's caring, generous, thoughtful, and sexually skilled. But he also isolates, stalks and controls the young, innocent heroine, essentially imprisoning her in the relationship. He lavishes her with designer clothing, cooks for her, and takes her to high-end restaurants, but won't allow her to fly home to see her family or go out with friends. This is a classic sign of an abusive relationship. She has no choices, and he knows where she is at all times (the way he tracks her is intriguing).
The characters do not change and grow and, while they are still together at the end of the novel, there isn't an HEA (there are two sequels). I found it emotionally dark and disturbing, and I don't plan to buy the other two books.
Because some readers are looking for attractive aliens that differ somehow in appearance and, um, attributes, I'll add that Korum looks human. He is just smarter, faster and stronger.

I've never been too interested in alien stories, but this one was really interesting. It captured my interest right away and I couldn't put it down before I had read half of the book. I love how the author mixes the Krinar's relationship with humans. The characters seem to have nothing in common except for their attraction for one another. During the book I kept trying to figure out if the guy was good, bad or in between. Will be getting volume 2 of this series ASAP.

After being disappointed with so many here at the store, I was surprised to find myself really liking this. At times I thought Mia's character was immature or childish but that Sadie it was a good read. Oh, and the few errors were also a nice surprise.

That said, let me explain. Close Liaisons is written from the heroine's point of view. We get to view her reactions to the Hero's (?) actions and words. And he's an enigma. Gentle, caring (my God, he cooks), yet cruel, demanding, possessive, controlling, and generally not someone I would want to know. He knows she is scared but refuses to even hint at anything that might alleviate her fear. I am waiting for Volume 2 for some kind of resolution. I hero continues in this vein, I won't read more.

This book managed to make me wonder if the Krinar were really the bad ones, or the humans. This isn't the normal alien/vampire story and I'm glad about that. I'm an erotica reader and have no problem with any kind of sex scene, but I feel that some of the scenes took away from the story. The story by itself was extremely interesting even without sex (though I'm glad there was sex!). I will definitely read the rest of the chronicles, if only to see what the Krinar are really on Earth for

I have read very few paranormal books and this is my first alien book and I have to say I loved it, reading is my favorite hobbies so I don't say this lightly. It is a most enjoyable book, the characters are intriguing, can't wait to read Anna's other book. Highly recommend this book.

The conquest of earth by the Krinar is unlike any nation conquest in the past. Minimal loss of life in exchange.for amazing technology and health benefits. Mia has met Korum, one of the alien leaders, and a relationship develops but treachery awaits. Story has potential but writing could be better.

Obviously, this book was NOT for me. 800 five-star reviews means that it's for someone else. So let me tell you why this book is NOT FOR ME and if you are bothered by the same things I am, then you will appreciate the warning and will leave this book to the people who love it.
Positive -- it is very well written. The heroine is shallow a few times, but mostly her plight as a captive abducted against her will is highly sympathetic. I cried for her probably as many times as she cried for herself.
Negative -- THE "HERO" STOLE HER PERSONHOOD. He stalked her, put a tracking device in her, raped her constantly -- which was okay (?) because she lost her mind and orgasmed every time -- and at the end of the book, her "happily ever after" realization was that HIS CONTROLLING OF HER MADE PERFECT SENSE. This book is like reading a textbook of how domestic violence happens. He fixated on her, separated her from her family and friends, decided who she could see and when, what she could do, and where she could go. And she's constantly terrified he's going to kill her. Spoiler alert -- she joins the Resistance movement with the only hope that he'll be exiled back to his planet so she can get her dream life back. IT FAILS. On the last pages of the book, she's so grateful he'll let her go back to school to finish up her last year of college. THAT IS THE HAPPY ENDING. HE'LL "LET" HER FINISH THE LAST YEAR OF COLLEGE AND HE'S NOT GOING TO KILL HER. Probably.
I just CANNOT STAND dub-con or non-con in my romance. At first, I was enjoying the steamy sex scenes, like where she was fantasizing about the hero or when I thought it would "turn a corner" and he'd end up being nice, but as the "hero" continued to wrap his controlling hands around her throat and strangle every choice she made, I had to skim the sex scenes because they made me sick. She literally can't control her body and she hates herself after she's given in. It's like rape every time, and he tells her it's not because she's forcefully aroused and orgasmed. UM, NO, THAT IS NOT WHAT MAKES SOMETHING RAPE OR NOT. And he's just totes fine with this not-rape, telling her she just doesn't understand that she loves him, proving his "advanced civilization" has absolutely no concept of love.
I want a hero who loves his heroine. Who worships her. Who builds her up as a person, makes her stronger, gives her confidence to follow her dreams. Who listens and respects her and really cares.
This "hero" is like a sociopath. He says he "wants her to be happy" at one point, but it feels like he's mouthing the words because he has no idea how miserable his treatment makes her. Or he doesn't care.
Korum disrespects the heroine. He makes fun of her, mocks her all the time, tells her she's not able to live on her own or make decisions (despite doing just fine for 20 years, thank you very much). He terrifies her, and makes fun of her for being scared and crying when he abducts her off the streets. He forces her to wear his clothes. He forces her to live in his apartment, eat his food, to cancel her internship, to not see her family, to go out with him, and to have sex. And every time she says that she doesn't want to do that or she wants to leave, he tells her that he'll just find her and force her.
I wanted him to realize he loved her. I wanted him to let go of his stranglehold. I wanted him to realize she was equal to him, intelligent, that her ideas and dreams had worth, that she deserved friends and happiness and a full life. I wanted him to become a kind person.
This never happened.
I read the whole book, and at the end, I hated him a thousand times more than at the beginning. She describes him as a "predator" at the beginning, and he never redeems himself. The final door shuts, she's fully imprisoned, she can't get any help, and there's no way out. If she couldn't kill him at the end, I wanted her to kill herself just to escape him. Just so she could finally be free.
I appreciate there are two more books in their "love" story, so maybe things someday do turn around for this couple, but I'm not willing to put myself through another horrifying Stockholm Syndrome to find out.
This is appealing to a certain kind of reader; obviously, it's appealing enough to get 800 reviews of high 5 stars. Maybe the same wave that made 50 Shades a phenomenon? I haven't read that but I imagined there might be parallels between locking someone up in a pleasure dungeon and unapologetically taking away all their human rights while brainwashing them to believe it was for their own good. But I thought the 50 Shades heroine at least had the choice of signing a contract, and I thought at the end of 50 Shades, the heroine escaped. (Only to come back in subsequent books, but still.) In this book, there is no escape.
If you are a reader with my same opinions and tastes, stay far, far away. If the above sounds appealing, then please treat yourself to a 5-star book.

Please RateClose Liaisons: The Krinar Chronicles (Volume 1)
I enjoyed this book and really liked Korum, the alien k from another planet who falls for Mia the human. He's possessive and bossy and its obvious he has feelings he doesn't understand towards Mia.
Of course there are people who don't want the k's living on earth. The resistence contact Mia when they learn she's involved with Korum. After all, he's one of the most important and powerful of the K. And being the naive girl she is, she believes them. Will Korum be liked because of her actions?
Overall, it's a good book and leaves you wanting more of Mia and Korum's story.
