This book is just plain stupid, it doesnt answer any of the questions you'd HOPE to find answers for. Most of the time they just show old letters and diary entrys and stuff, it really all doesnt make any sense, most of the time what is written is stuff you know nothing about. Plus the jokes are really lame, unlike the ones in the actually Series of unfortunat Events, they seemed really forced and unatural. It's a pretty boring too, not what I expected after reading the Unfortunate Events series...Though it is, um...., nicely made. The pages are glossy, and it comes covered with a nice dust jaket thats reversible. It's really all to bad, because I really miss reading the series and im not the kind of person that reads books over again, but this is the next best thing to read until the Cavornous Carnival... I only reccomend it becasue it looks good on the shelf with the S,O,U,Es books....and its a Lemony Snicket product.

Though his formal training was chiefly in rhetorical analysis, he has spent the last several eras researching the travails of the Baudelaire orphans. This project, being published serially by Harper Collins takes him to the scenes of numerous crimes, often during the off season. Eternally pursued and insatiably inquisitive, a hermit and a nomad, Mr. Snicket wishes you nothing but the best.

I LOVE the Series of Unfortunate Events. Can hardly wait for each new episode. My students love the series too (I'm a school librarian). But this 'biography' didn't do much for me. Some of it was funny, but I found most of it downright boring. The best parts were the obverse of the dust jacket and the "no reproduction" statement on the copyright page. Lemony, I love ya', but stick to chronicling the Baudelaires and Quagmires.

Please note that the author has been called a fraud, a criminal, a best seller, a corpse, a fictional character, an unreliable narrator, an objective flaneur, an embattled gentelman, a magnetic field, an arsonist, and late for dinner by an odd number of dubious authorities. Send help at once. All rights reserved.

Wouldn't you rather read about ponies?

I'm a prospective Ivy League student, and children's books happen to be my hobby. Sadly, a great many of them, although in possession of decent enough concepts and plotlines, are poorly written. That's why I love this book. The author has his own distinct voice and a masterful control of the English language--quite unexpected in contemporary writing. While so many books out there--for children and adults alike--are shoddily pieced together with absolutely no sense of craft, it's refreshing to see that the genuine WRITER is not yet a completely endangered species. ...Plus, the "Pony Party" book jacket was absolutely riotous good fun.

This, is truely a Unfortunte Events book, not only because of the author is the same but the style it is writen in. The notes to the editor, the funnness of it all... And the more you read these books the more queston's you get! I would recomend this book to anyone who has not read it.

As the rest of the series has proved, Lemony Snicket is a genius. He acts like this book is part of the series by continuing the mysterious organization (VFD). Some of this book was confusing but I still liked it. I was always wondering what was going to happen on the next page.

I know that The Series of Unfortunate Events seems childish, but just take the time to read them. They really are quite entertaining. And this new book, the unauthorized autobiography is just so adorable I can't stand it. I must say that these books have been most entertaining and I cannon stand the suspense that Snicket puts me through (if that is his real name). He makes me question everything, which makes me feel like a kid again, full of wonder. I hope all of you out there can appreciate what Snicket has done. If you don't know what I mean by that, you will once you have read his (or her) works.

How can you describe "The Unauthorized Autobiography of Lemony Snicket"? I know a lot of people don't like this book. I know they think it is dumb, boring, or just doesn't give them enough information about anything.
Let me tell you something. This book is probably anything but that. First, read the Series of Unfortunate Events up to #8 (Which is what I'm up to, I hope to get 9 soon!). If you don't read any of them, or even just skip one, YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BOOK.
Second, read this book as many times as you need to, and don't skip anything! Even read the index! I have so far read this book 3 times, and still want to read it again. Every time I find more and more interesting things- such as Daniel Handler is shown in the book!
Who is Daniel Handler? He's "Lemony Snicket's Representative". Even though Lemony Snicket is fictional, the best thing to do while reading this book is to pretend he's real. If you don't, you may find yourself getting disinterested.
I was somewhat disappointed the first time that I didn't find anything out about who Beatrice is (ahh! stupid page 211!) but after looking through it again, I learned a lot! Hint: Mozart's Fourteenth Symphony. I myself can only hum Ode To Joy, Beethoven's 9th Symphony...but anyway, back to the book!!
If you buy this, I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope I won't offend anyone with this, but you have to have a "logical" mind that can pierce things together. If you don't, don't bother reading this book- you'll be lost completely.
I hope I've helped you decide whether or not to read this book! I enjoyed it a lot. I wish I could join VFD! And what is VFD, anyway? A Very Funky Disco! Wait... A Vascular Funnel Digest! Wait....Oh, well, I don't know what VFD is...well, actually I don't know what the initials are! I just know what it is, a few places it used to be, and how to join it...If you excuse me now, I think I just heard a page turning outside...

Let ring the bells to celebrate this book's release! I thought this was wonderful, and it confirmed many of my suspicions about VFD, Count Olaf, and Emse Squalor. For those who have the patience to piece them together, the book does offer many clues, but in a typically Snicket-ian obtruse and round-about way. If you pay close attention you will be able to find answers to some of the questions you have been asking yourself about the Baudlaires. "The World is Quiet Here"

This is an authorized biography. Y'see, Lemony Snicket is not actually a real person, he's more of a character in the Series of Unfortunate Events. Daniel Handler is the book's real-life author. This is more like the next book in the series. It reveals more info about V.F.D. and who Lemony Snicket really is (Along with pictures). Are the Baudelaire's parents still alive? What does the eye of Count Olaf mean? Who is Beatrice? These questions are answered in this book (At least partially). An all-around hilarious and great read. Highly recommended.

This book was nothing short of phenomenal. This humorous book reveals all and entertains all ages. I could hardly put it down. I would definetly read his other books before this, though. Snicket has done it again!!

This book started out a little slower paced than the rest of the Series of Unfortunate Events, however, once you get used to the different feel and set-up of the book (it is comprised of mostly letters and photographs) - it is gripping! A lot of (still mysterious) insights into the V.F.D., etc. I also love the references to other pieces of literature that tie in throughout the book. A great read if you are a Lemony Snicket fan!

I thought this book was very confusing, but through all the confusion it was pretty funny.I believe this book was worth reading (even though it was confusing).I probably did not understand it because I did not read the Series of Unfortunate Events. So if you did not read the series you should not read this book until you do.

Although this book was very confusing in certain parts i enjoyed it very much. it answered many questions, and brought on many more.

with so many letters and pictures this book was very interesting.

i did like it but gave it 3 stars becase at lest half of the book was confusing. i've read all these books up to 9 and havent been able to find the rest in the school library becasue someone is constantly reading them. Lemony Snicket** is a wonderful author.

** anyone know his real name???

this is a book by a very interesting and mysterious author, and the book is very interesting and mysterious as well. I think it was funny and captivating. You should get this book, and learn more about the author of The series of unfortunate events! :)

I love Lemony Snicket!! He is honestly one of the best authors I know. Read this book AFTER you have read the other ten, or it will be majorly confusing. I speak as someone who read this when I had only read up to #5. Mistake. I am an avid reader of Lemony, and have spent much time and energy researching his books for answers to the mysteries of the series, and this book, while confusing, helps a lot.
This book is excellent.

...[This] joined my two
Japanese comic books and an abacus in their little plastic
bag.
I will not call it a waste of money. I enjoyed the book.
I suggest everyone else put themselves on the on-hold list
at the libarary for this amusing book or I suggest that
everyone ask some kind friend or relative buy it for them.

I have read all of the unfortunate Events Books, and I really enjoyed them, but this one is not good. Lemony Snicket acts like a fugitive or something. This book was very confusing to me, and it would be 100% bewilderment if you haven't read all of the books. Acting like you live in a fictional world is fun, but Snicket has carried this joke too far, all the way to a horrible book. I wouldn't spend [money] on it, maybe check it out at your local library.

After reading 1-8 of A Series of Unfortunate Events and this book, I came to the conclusion that this book was the best book I had ever read in my whole life! It was so interesting that I just couldn't put it down. I read it until I almost fell asleep at night. The next morning, the first thing I did was pick it up and start reading it. It made everything make so much sense.

well this book puzzles me why would he write something like this he doesn't even answer any of his questions that the chapters are called like"where are the quagmire triplets now?" he doesnt even say where they are what is the point of writing the book. some things are interesting but really this book seemed kind of pointless. I love every other lemony snicket book that he has ever written its just this one is not very impressive.

Lemony Snicket has certainly got his hooks in me. I can't finish one of his books without wondering when I will be able to start another. His madcap humor is so original I am surprised that he is not more widely known. However, this book really left me wondering what he was thinking. As I read this book, I felt I was standing on the outside of an inside joke. This should not discourage you from reading the Series Of Unfortunate Events. Maybe as I read more volumes it will make sense, but right now (reading number four right now) I haven't a clue.

I have gone to all the local bookstores, Borders, Barnes and Noble, and B. Dalton. None of them had this book. I even went on the Barnes and Noble website, copied the exact title into the search bar and the book didn't show up (on the site.) Is it not sold in the U.S? The only person to review this book is from Greenland. Also the only books you can buy in the the store "buy new and used books" section are from Amozon itself or from U.K bookstore. Please E-mail me if you have any answers. Thanks!

It's an unassuming little book. Mostly overlooked in the school library. But anyone who has read ASoUE will recognize the name on the spine and snatch it before anyone else does. This was a great help in solving the mysteries of VFD, especially the bit about Sebald Code. Read the books, read this book, and you'll know what I mean...

This book was very unusual and instead of having the children as the main characters, it had LS as the main character. It gave away lots of information about V.F.D. but it still makes you want to read more about it.
This book was awesome. I would highly recommend it for everyone!

Any fan of Lemony Snickt should buy this! This is definite hilarious. However you have to be a true fan to understand. My daughters like "A Series of Unfortunate Events" so of course we had to get this too, and we've enjoyed it mostly.

This book is absouletly the worst piece of work Lemony Snicket has ever published and well published. An Autobiography I would rather have explain about Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket. Maybe his appearence but still using the Snicket technique. Like for example "Lemony Snicket is said to have brown hair, green eyes and big swollen lips. this is simply unproven eveidence and I don't find any of it to be true. I am really not a big fat slob..." But I love the books!

i'm sorry, but in this confusing narrative snicket's writing ability is heard, but your incapability to grasp the story is not worth it. fans of the series may enjoy it, but WARNING very very difficult to make sense of.
