well developed characters moved forcefully through this work. The writer kept up the pace, and took me to places I've never been, but feel an intimate knowledge of now. excellent story, well crafted. read it.

I would recommend this book for those with a strong constitution. At times it is depressing to have such a clear description of this country. Plot does move fairly rapidly, guessing the outcome will keep you riveted.

The story line suspenseful and fast moving with a twist in the end.
I would recommend this book to the readers of mystery and thrillers.
Although this was fiction I still learn much about the State of Zimbabwe and it's religious ideals.

This book really surprised me in how much I liked it. It soon became apparent that I had a really "good one" in that I couldn't wait to get back to it each time I had to close my Kindle cover. This is what I would describe as a page-turner.
Why was it so good? I loved the novel's setting of Zimbabwe. Africa has always fascinated me. Dominic Grey is a mysterious, interesting, and very capable character--I would want to revisit him again in future books. The other characters were well enough developed and mostly believable. The author, Layton Green, is obviously well-educated and has a great command of the language, with just enough words I had to look up, good words, too. The book built with suspense and sometimes I felt my skin itching or "crawling" with fear--I love books that evoke emotions in me. And, the ending was very satisfying. All in all, a book that I do recommend.

Interesting locales with just enough description to put you there. Interesting plot with several twists. Also considers some questions
that might make the reader think a little more about what's going on in the world, as well as examine their own faith and belief systems.
All in all, a good read.
Looking forward to more by this author.

This is my first by Layton Green and this series. I loved the main character, Dominic Grey. He is complex and has his own ghosts and baggage, which I found to help me become more interesting and human. I really liked this book. Set in Zimbabwe, in the first page a person from the state department vanishes. It is a steady page turner as the meaning of "Summoner" is harrowing. The author takes time to take us into the culture, the religious beliefs, and the life inside Zimbabwe. This was so captivating that I would stop and Google that country and learn more about the cities and religious lore in the part of the country woven into this novel. There are twists but the end was especially surprising. It is a thoroughly enjoyable story with a central character I like. I have two more books to read in this series. They are next on my reading list.

If you like Dan Brown you might enjoy this novel. A lot of mysteries being solved through out the book, a lot of action and you might actually learn something about zimbawe or at least awake your curiosity to learn more about their culture and oher african countries.

Main character thoroughly created and explained. Unlike most action heroes, he was believable, with only minimal poetic exaggeration. Explanations of the Yoruba religion were interesting without being didactic.

I recently finished reading the last two novels in the Dominic Grey series, so of course had to read this first one. This is an incredible series, not to be missed! Sincerely hoping that book number four will be forthcoming in the near future.

This story centers around Dominic Grey and how he comes to meet his future investigative partner, Dr. Radek. In the Summoner we are taken to Zimbabwe Africa, where superstition and corruption co-exist. Dominic Grey is an investigator for the U.S. Embassy and is tasked with finding a former Ambassador that has disappeared while attending a religious ceremony. As Grey investigates, he discovers that there are some very strange circumstances that surround the disappearance of the Ambassador. In addition, there are several more people that have suffered similar fates. The U.S. Embassy brings in the cult expert Dr. Radek to consult and along with the Zimbabwe government representative, Nya, Grey must find the mysterious 'Summoner'. The story was really a good read and enjoyable. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars was because some of the writing wasn't on the highest level. Overall would recommend to others.

The mystery and criminal corresion that moved this story along kept me on edge. It had believable characters, a kind of deplorable location and the kind of situation you could beieve, but pray never happens to you.

Although the story has many of the attributes required for a "thriller", it's true strength is it's uniqueness. After reading this novel you will spent some time with Wikipedia, that is certain. A great read, and now I am on to another of Mr. Green 's books. Please keep up the great work sir!

Layton Green clearly spent a lot of time doing his research for this book. I would say he spent at least a year. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the setting in Zimbabwe, where I was born. He managed to weave in the political climate of that country into the storyline without straying away from the plot. A very intense book, filled with action and analysis of cult thinking.

Strong writing and plot. Not without fleeting minor weaknesses as compared to the top major best-selling writers, but on the whole of it right up there with them. I stayed glued to the unfolding narrative. Great detail of an exotic setting; a significant amount of research is apparent, which makes the novel all the more interesting. This is a page-turner.

I like reading Layton Green books. The stories are interesting and the characters are believable and I root for the good guys to get the bad guys. I am now reading the Egyptian, which promises to be just as good.

I loved learning about the culture of the people and the world of juju. If you like thrillers, sociology, or history you will really enjoy this book. Layton Green is an amazing writer and his vocabulary choices are exciting. I often used my kindle dictionary feature to clarify word meanings just to make sure I wasn't missing something. I really loved that I could see his intelligence through his writing. I recommended it to a male friend and he really liked it as well. I will read everything Layton Green gets published. I also read his short story about the Hemmingways and it was entertaining as well.
