I really liked the story line and although there are some grammatical errors and punctuation issues. It did not take away from the story to me... I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. It was an easy and enjoyable read...i would recommend this book to others..

The story line was interesting but overall the book was disappointing. I found myself skimming through the text since much of it did not contribute to the story line. The behavior of the characters was most definitely correct for the time. First, a women having a child out of wedlock would not engender the sympathy Jenny received. The towns acceptance for Jenny, with a child out of wedlock, is totally the opposite of reality. As a "rancher" Jenny spent every other day in town chatting with her friends, constantly shopping, listening to the band, and dinner out (not the least bit realistic for the time). Lastly, Mars and Jenny sleeping together (i mean sleeping not sex) was not at all typical of the time frame. Sheesh. It was like the 1950's in the 1880's and did not feel like a historical western. The biggest disappointment is that there is really no sense of mystery and the villains were hardly villainous. The reason for the villainy was so unimaginative. Yeah, i like the word - villain - in all of its forms. Author has potential but not likely to read anymore of ther books.

I totally enjoyed the story line and could feel the connection between Jenny and Mariner. The mystery line was good throughout the book. The 4 stars instead of 5 came from the grammar, spelling and punctuation errors and from the question that no one seemed to question Jenny having a child out of wedlock and Mariner spending the night with her. For the times, these would have been serious mistakes. I love the way Aurora Hanson develops her characters and story line.

This is a book that twists, turns and really keeps your interest. So many good characters that take on the persona of a huge family; everyone watches out for each other. Sheriff, deputies, ranchers, cowboys, kids and a mare. Lives that intertwined daily that keeps you picking it up often just to read a little more. . .

Although the plot was relatively interesting, I was completely turned off by the writing style. The book felt rather juvenile at times, coupled with an overabundance of "and"....that was enough for me. I lost patience and interest. I don't know how many other books this author has written, but this one felt like a first attempt.

An obvious first try from someone who'd never been to the American west, on an American ranch or read a history book or even other historical romances. Keep trying. It's called a porch in the western vernacular not a veranda. ?
