It is a comprehensive text on computer networking. The book should be in the library of anyone trying to master the subject. Only thing that I would add: a short chapter (maybe a fold-out help sheet) that focuses exclusively on Microsoft Windows .

The book is exactly what i was looking for. Condition mint and full of valuable information.
I recommend this book to anybody who, like me, want to open the door to understanding networking better.

Good book for overall aspects of networking. I used primarily for wireless network setup. Been setting up small networks for years, but was having a problem and needed a reference book to help me troubleshoot my setup. It worked.

I am taking computer classes and bought this book to supplement my textbook. It is informative, easy to understand and a good reference tool. It has helped me grasp networking concepts which can be difficult to process.

This book is an excellent resource as a reference for the experienced professional or someone wanting to learn more about networking. Doug Lowehas a great sense of humor and keeps even the more technical details light and easy to read.

I have (rather had) no prior knowledge in networking or even internet technology in general. I landed a job in this industry and bought this book to gain some foundational knowledge. This is a dummies book afterall, but still would be useful as a reference for those who already have familiarity in networking. Easy to follow and the pictures/graphs really help explain what is being described.

First of all, this book appeared used. There were stains on the pages and edges. Secondly, there were sections that were duplicated, like the table of contents and the index. Some pages were also duplicated and some were very faintly printed so overall the physical quality of the book would get zero stars.
The actual content of it would be 1 1/2 stars if that were possible. I get that it's trendy for computer people to speak in "geek" and be very sarcastic etc. but this was over the top even considering it's a "dummies" book. Write "server" on your left hand and "client" on your right hand and don't wash them until you memorize them. Really? This is helpful how? If I were a computer geek I wouldn't need a dummies book.
Although the description indicated this book would be applicable for a home based network, it is nearly all geared towards work networks. Which I don't understand; in today's reality, do common worker bees really get to set up or change a workplace network? At my workplace the IT people do all that and don't want us messing up their "stuff". So a book that is heavily into how to establish a workplace network seems unnecessary. Maybe for very small offices with no IT department...
But I bought it for home networking and while it was helpful in learning the jargon and some tidbits of information, it wasn't very helpful in actually setting it up. The biggest issue for me was the lack of information on wireless networks. There was a small section on it (about 8 pages) but it seemed outdated and more of an aside. Wireless networks are pretty common these days so I would've expected more from the "updated edition" dated 2016.
Maybe I bought the wrong book. I will actually go to the bookstore for the next computer book I purchase to see what it includes.

Don't get me wrong, there are interesting topics covered for the novice but they are not properly taught.
I now have to get another book to continue learning about the subject the right way.
