I love these Isaac Bell adventures. They so accurately describe the days gone by in America that you can almost smell the manure in the NYC streets from the horse-drawn street cars and drayage carts. An excellent read and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one.

Clive Cussler, along with J.D. Robb, is the second of my favorite authors. I particularly like and relate to the Dirk Pitt Series and Cyclops is, like all of the Pitt series I have read, a dynamic action thriller that keeps the reader "on the edge of his seat" as the saying goes. Great book, looking for more.

Of the several series Clive Cussler writes, I consider this the second weakest and while I enjoy the technical detail the story lines are rather befuddling. That said, while I didn't find this book better than average, he still provides extraordinary prose across the broad spectrum of his writing and remains one of my favorite authors!
The Striker: An Isaac Bell Adventure, Book 6 :: The Navigator (The NUMA Files) :: Skeleton Coast (The Oregon Files) :: Medusa (Kurt Austin, Bk 8) :: Corsair: Oregon Files #6 (The Oregon Files)

After having read all of Clive Cussler's books so far and Justin Scott's Ben Abbott series, I was totally disappointed in this book, ostensibly written ( I have my doubts) by these two eminent novelists. Previous books by both Cussler and Scott have been engrossing page turners that captivate and engross the reader. My disappointment with The Bootleggers is extreme. I could only make it 40% of the way through the book and to make it that far was a struggle. This is the first book by either author that I have quit on. The plot (what plot?) is muddled and vague, mixing rum-running on the coast of the U.S. with communist insurgents in post WW1 in Germany, yuk!! It seems to me that this book was nothing more than an effort to collect a royalty based on past accomplishments without regard for the loyal readers of the genre or their pocketbooks. I think that a refund of the purchase price of this novel to anyone who requests it should be underwritten by the authors and the publisher (who obviously did not not read this brick before release). If this had been the first book that I read by these authors I never would have read another. If this is the best they can do at this point in their careers they should have quit while they were ahead. Don't waste your money. Invest your money instead in John Grisham, Stuart Woods, Michael Connelly, and David Baldacci, who all continue to produce quality work.

Great story and writing if you are familiar with nautical terminology as well as early 1900's slang. If not, then it's somewhat hard to absorb all that the author is saying. Lot's of interesting historical facts about boats and bootlegging. Love Clive Cussler novels, but the Isaac Bell series isn't his best.

The Isaac Bell series is the best ser4tes to come down the pike in a long, long time. I believe it's the turn of the century locale that draws me to it. The description and narratives are captivating. All good reads

Issac is busy as always, but the real fascination comes with story of some of the people behind the activity. It truly reveals why the Prohibition was doomed. We do get an exciting ride as the the really bad guys are taken down.

Love Cussler's Isaac Bell books and eagerly await the next one. The author clearly shares my love of transportation--planes, trains, and automobiles--as he includes a lot of usually well-researched transportation scenes. One misstep this time when he refers to "Santa Fe's Overland Limited." The Overland was a Southern Pacific-Union Pacific train--he probably meant to write "Chief." Anyway, the good guys prevailed and it is a great read!

Good easy reading. My Grandfather was a Rum Runner in Detroit so this brought to mind some of the stories I heard as a kid.
Cussder always combinds history with fiction in an interesting way

Worth the read

Non-Stop action and intrigue, making history of the early 1900's come to life, in an entertaining way. Helps understand the time my dad grew up in. "Speaks" as he called them, bathtub gin, and the Bolsheviks trying to impose their views on society.

I love this type of moving thriller. Only thing is once you start a Dirk book don't expect to get anything else done
until you finish it.
Once you finish Cyclops you better have another of his 30 or 40 books on hand so you don't have to wait!

As always, the story line is great! So much authentic detail is given to the period of time - prohibition. It is interesting that Russia is portrayed this way, in light of what is happening in the real world.

This book differs from the others in the series in that the reader is not treated to a retelling of Isacs older cases but it is more normal in that we are living it with him. I was actually thrown off a bit at the start.

This book was very exciting!!! Written in the true Clive Cuddled style. I ENJOYED ALL THE DIRK PITT STORIES. And now The Issac Bell. Stories are exciting colorful with a background. Of history to make the storks seem "real". I CAN RECCOMEND. this book. For an exciting read.

I love Isaac Bell and his cast of characters. The plot is always varied, historically informative and plausible. I wish he had more time for his wife, or that she could possibly help him solve a case some time.

Thought the book was going to be old-fashioned, and it was, but in a good way. Page-turner, interesting characters but clear as to who was good abd who was evil. Wnjoyed the details of early NY and Detroit

Excellent book. As per most all of Cussler's books I kept waiting for the book to move up to modern times but it was a book written entirely for the Prohibition days and was excellent as usual. Hard to put down.

A good Clive Cussler book like always! I enjoy the Isaac Bell mysteries and look forward to many more. The moments in history where the stories take place, come alive with the way Cussler tells a story.

Cussler is at his best in another "Bell" story. This one is fast paced and has all the best of the semi-historic series. From New York to Detroit to the Caribbean, this one takes you on an extended ride. A fun read!

Was not disappointed like aqll of Cussler's novels plenty o9f intrigue and suspense. Perhaps the characters are a little stiffer as they were later more fleshed out. Quick read and a good beach book if you are into thrillers
