Book six does not disappoint and continues on in the same edge of your seat fashion as the previous books. You will find it hard to put down.... and when you have too... you'll still be thinking about it.

This is Book 6 of the "Voodoo Plague" series, and with the exception of a couple of issues I have, it is still well written and I can't wait for Book 7. The only thing that kept me from giving it a five-star rating like I usually do was that in one instance, the principal character takes too much time to make personal political statements that not only seem out of place, but can serve to agitate those who may have differing opinions. Also, he spends far too much time giving backstories that really don't seem necessary and are distracting. Other than that, the story remains involving and exciting.

This installment is so predictable. I mean, how can one guy find SO much trouble and have so many "but thens" show up in the nick of time? I know we don't want to read about day to day crap without some excitement, but really ....?

This series is so "real"... it feels real and reels you in ?(I know.. that's a bit cheesy but I couldn't resist). It's very well written and I've now read all 14+2 and I decided to come back and write a review to copy and share on all the books...
Amazingly, consistently, throughout the entire series, in every book and on (ok people, he's human so on ALMOST) every page, he's achieved a caliber of balance I honestly can't remember seeing before. He doesn't include so much unnecessary "garble" that you're "skipping and scanning" trying to find the story. He utilizes just enough "descriptive writing" to provide the information your mind needs to "see" what's happening in the scene which allows you to feel as if you're truly experiencing it. . I became so immersed that at times I felt "odd" when I'd go to cook dinner and the water and power flowed freely...
I think the way he's written this, with most of being written in first person, truly "hooks" your mind and pulls you on so that it's almost as if you ARE John.
One component I'd like to share with other readers is how unlike his writing is from several (almost all) other post-apocalyptic books which include military story lines that I've read. Having grown up on military bases literally around the world, and as the member of a family with generations of Army "grunts", I look for these types of stories.
Unlike many of his counterparts, who have to some degree or another jumbled the differences in the branches or inaccurately portrayed elements such as "the heart" of a serviceman, sometimes minutely and others horribly - and in my opinion disrespectfully and dishonorably. Though in one books instance I was so appalled I stopped reading it and never read the author again. Mr. Patton has gone to great lengths diligently endeavoring to accurately portray all aspects from the correct terminology used by and for each branch to the dialogue being "true military speak" to the capabilities and limits of weaponry and arms and so on. While he openly admits to taking literary license as well as the occasional error, he has actually written forewords providing true historical facts regarding previous military actions which he referenced or weaves into his plot.
Mr. Patton has done our men and women proud. He has truly captured the "character of the characters". Due to medical disqualifications I didn't have the honor of serving our country but At 6'7" and with 280 lbs of ferocity, grit and heart my daddy served for 20 years. In multiple countries, including being a trainer for Desert Storm, a Recruiter, an MP and many other positions I don't know, he completed his career as an E-6, First Class Special Staff Sergeant (I'm fairly certain that's how it's said but I might be mistaken).
In one book there's a discussion regarding the public saying "thank you" because it's "expected"... almost as if it seems empty to the soldier... I'd like all of you who have served and are reading this to know... You may have just been doing your job, but you CHOSE to do that for me... so from this little girl inside of me who ran across the tarmac trying to keep her daddy home, then waited in the window "forever" watching the sky, then waited under the awning for him to finally step off the bus, and then stood in the sun for the hours it took until he was released so I could run across the tarmac when my daddy came home.... and who cried with her friends for what our mommies or daddies "left on the field" whether it was their lives or their limbs or their hearts... from the bottom of my heart, with words that are way too small to ever be big enough to hold the weight I mean them with, which are far from "empty" and couldn't be more full, I truly THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice.

Another outstanding addition to the 'V Plague' series. Mr. Patton writes incredibly well, allowing the reader to simply sit back and "watch the movie" as the book unfolds! John Chase has found clues that his wife, Katie is alive against all odds and he will stop at nothing to reach her.
The story begins with a little bit of backstory to detail Katie's experiences when the first infections are discovered. It follows her adventures as she attempts to find a way to safety, to her husband, anywhere away from the chaos and danger that develops as society collapses.
It continues with John and Rachel's attempts to find her while the only person left in line to the Presidency is making deals with the Russians. The book follows (after Katie's backstory) right where the fifth book left off and is action-packed, tragic, and strangely satisfying.
Infused with humor and non-stop deadlines for the characters....this series has become one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to starting the seventh book, 'Indestructible' soon!

Another good addition to the series although a bit shorter in length.
If you haven't picked up this series yet, give it a try. It's fast, action packed, and fun.
I'd give it 5 stars but for two reasons:
1. Patton finishes his novels on cliff hangers. This one is no different.
2. Heavy handed application of Murphy's Law. The primary protagonist, John Chase, just can't catch a break...EVER.
If he's in a sturdy automobile, it's gonna break down or get shot up. If he's in a perfectly good aircraft, it's gonna fall out of the sky. If he has to urinate, a rabid Honey Badger will come flying out of the toilet and latch on to his groin (ok, that's an exaggeration but you get the point). The flip side is if there's a chance for the bad guys to have a very bad day, Chase will be there to make sure it happens...eventually and painfully :)

The characters keep developing over the books; I'm on book 8. The pace is sometimes so fast that I have to take a break from the book now and then because it's exhausting. There isn't a lot of downtime but the suspense and action are well organized and paced. The author said in one of his prologues that whenever he was thinking up a new scene, he asked himself 'how can this go wrong'? You get accustomed to that so after a while of reading these books, you start to cringe, trying to image what next because you know it isn't going to be pretty. Like the Slow Burn books, the 'infected' are plausible, not some living dead out of Evil Dead. I can actually see something like this happening which makes the read that much more intense.

While the characters are good, the story is getting a little ridiculous. The Russians have managed to beat every move made by the US years ago. While they’re good, they aren’t that good. They can barely sustain an invasion on their border but we are supposed to believe they can invade across an ocean?

Another superlative from Mr. Patton. I was a bit concerned that this was 'Katie's story,' but all my favorite characters are still in the mix! The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat and eagerly awaiting each turn of the page. Ordering number seven now...geez, oh Pete, I need to sleep but I have to know what happens next....?

Going to start the next one right away. Solid characters. You want to learn more about their history and become invested in the outcome for each. I would recommend this series to action fans, zombie fans, and military buff. Not only entertaining but educational. ?

Since stumbling upon this series a few months ago I have been eagerly working my way through all of the books in the series. The fast pace of the stories, the great character development and humor that are entwined within the story keeps you turning the pages. Once I learned that Dirk was a fellow 12th my love of his books all made sense. I can't wait to begin reading some of his other book series once I have completed this one. Go Hawks!

Never a moment's reprieve from the tension! The action packed nature of the story just increases in speed with every new addition to the series. Glad to see an old enemy gone, but worried for Rachel, one of the two main characters up until this point. Surely John can't toss her away like yesterday's news. Anyway.....on to the next in the series. I can't wait!

This story continues to develop. Just when you think it is over and there is a war won by the good guys/ gals, there's a hitch. Besides the author's penchant for killing off developed characters, I love this series and this book.

Just finished reading book number 6 and can't wait for book number 7! The action in this series is incredible, the twists and turns happen so fast you can't put the book down until it's finished. Then your ready for the next book. I have read 6 books in just a little over a week and I would be reading number 7 if the author would just write it! Can't wait to get started! If you like zombies and action you are going to love this series!

A must read series. Yes there undead, but they keep evolving, you never know what you're getting next with the females. The characters, some you love, some you like and a few you totally hate. At this point in the series I'm not sure to root for Rachel or Katie. Poor John.
