All he is basically saying is understand your tilted and get over it. But reality mr tindler doesnt play poker so his advice is very novice he has no idea what it really feels like and has no proof that his thinking produces money playing poker. Just another guy who a recreational poker player trying to give advice and it makes you concentrate so much on the mental side it makes you over think in games and make even more mistakes. Stay away from this book unless you want to start over thinking trying to be non tilted. Being on tilt is just a part of poker people need to accept that and just play. THis is a big waste of time he says everything all these other mental coaches say but the same pattern they dont play poker or make money at poker to show there theories are correct. Id rather buy book on a proven poker player who has made money and understands how to handle bad swings.

I bought this book when it was available on prerelease. So far I've navigated my way through half the book with seemingly magnificent results, not only a marked improvement on my poker funds, but more importantly my state of mind prior during & after playing which is the aim of the book.
The book itself isn't intended to be read cover to cover, but to focus on your own weaknesses & allow your game to progress further. It tackles a wide specurum of common problems such as tilt, fear, motivation & emotion, breaking them down & allowing you to not only understand why the typical approach & thought process is wrong but it gives a logical way to correct these errors enabling you to move your mental game forward.
This book is the biggest edge you can have as a poker player right now, the longer it takes everyone to realize this, the bigger return I get from my investment.

I've been playing microstakes online poker as a hobby for several years now. I quickly ran into tilt issues when I started logging more hours of play each week. Jared's first mental game coaching videos (and now this book) have been a great help to me.
There are several other very good books and mental game coaches out there who can help improve your game but Jared's book reminds me of the bible of poker: David Sklanksy's 'The Theory of Poker'. In both books the authors spend a lot of time explaining the theory of why you should do something, not just what to do. Understanding the theory is invaluable when you need to adapt strategies to your own situation and (possibly) new situations.
'The Mental Game of Poker' takes the most up to date scientific theories of therapy and learning and shows how they can be applied to improving your poker mental game. If you favor a rational, scientific approach to problem solving, this is the mental game book for you!

With the current poker environment and edges being so small in games, Jared brings a whole new element to the game. I have read over 30 poker books, have watched countless videos, have been coached by many and never seen information that is contained in this book. Not only have I not seen the information that is contained in this book but I feel that it is the best information that I have read in any poker book as well! I was immediately able to take things from it and apply it to my game. I have seen immediate results in areas such as focus, tilt control, as well as motivation just to name a few. It is laid out in an easy to understand format that is also enjoyable to read. The way Jared describes problems, I feel that he is talking directly to me. So many issues that I faced he takes head on. Jared also helps to identify issues that I wasn't even aware I had until reading this book. If you take poker seriously and are looking for a resource to help you improve your profitability, this book is for you.

I have both the Poker Mindset by Matthew Hilger and Elements of Poker by Tommy Angelo, and expected The Mental Game of Poker to be similar - I was wrong. Although both those books were, and are, still very good, The Mental Game of Poker has raised the bar much higher. It has approached subjects like tilt and motivation in a very advanced way, yet manages to be quite straightforward and easy to understand. In particular, Tendler has completely re-written the rule book on tilt, and I do not see how any text in the immediate future will come close to this.
The problem with most poker books is that the material dates very quickly, and there is much better information out there on twoplustwo. This is one of the exceptions, you simply cannot find the information in this book anywhere else in poker (I presume you can in wider sports psychology literature, but obviously that is not focussed on poker). This has to be the best poker book since Harrington on Hold'em.

After reading this book, I now easily see how losing players continue to be losing players. They have a good skill set poker wise but they are "Mental Game Fish". Yes, they can build a big stack quickly but by having a weak Mental Game they quickly losing all their chips. So why not have an edge on my opponents, why not worker harder and be strong mentally, this book has definitely has put me in line for success & closer to reaching my goals. Big Thanks to Jared & Barry for writing this book. You helped me and it will certainly help others.

I have read numerous books on Poker, many of them good and a few exceptional ...I believe that Jared Tendler's book is by far and away the most advanced Poker book out there and will have more impact on your game and improvement than anything else that you can get your hands on ... let me tell you why.
First and foremost I'm going to state the obvious which is so clear that it's often missed ... and that is realizing what the most important skill is that you can have in Poker. Is it knowing when to double barrel on a dry board against a particular opponent type? What about 4 betting an aggressive player that 3 bets frequently? ... for sure it has to be about positional awareness and knowing how to exploit that and other players right? While these are all skills that are necessary to develop as you gain more skill and climb up the poker ladder ... none of them will make a difference to you if you can't master the MOST IMPORTANT tool at your disposal ... your MENTAL GAME!
Without the proper information on how to utilize your mental game skills you will be unable to execute the plays that are necessary to play winning poker and you will also find yourself unable to deal with the inevitable "downs" that come as part of the game. I mean, lets face it ... these days pretty much everyone has access to the same training material as far as strategy and optimal play is concerned, but if that was all it took, then why isn't everyone winning?
Jared takes that missing information that is clearly lacking in content in the Poker World and delivers it in a fashion that is accessible and he also makes it easy to digest ... look forward to the "aha" moments because there are many.
Many folks that play, myself included have spent countless hours reading and studying the game yet just can't seem to break out of either break even or marginal win rates .. and if you honestly look at your game and really really critique your play, you just may find that some of the things that you are doing AND are not doing are fundamentally flawed simply because of the mindset that you are in when making those decisions is based on how we have reacted to previous events, habitual patterns or other psychological challenges that Jared covers in his book and gives solutions to.
...and if you are already winning at a decent clip ... holla balla!! teh moniez will flow in even better after you get this book!!
Jared will give you the tools necessary to rid yourself and your game of those costly mistakes and the confidence to make the optimal plays when required. This is a game of margins ... do you want to increase yours?
Then get this book!! Best investment in yourself and your game that you will ever make!!

A complete treatise on the correct way to think for every aspect of the game.
Rather than just being a book you can read and know everything, this gives you the tools to work by yourself on yourself to be able to continually improve including aspects such as motivation to learn.
In short, now that I have it, I want no one else to get it too.

This book has been recommended to me by few poker pros. Supposedly it is very helpful and could serve its purpose of improving your game mentally. However, after ordering 2 copies meant to be given as Christmas gifts , with enough time to receive them prior the holiday and using the store Prime (why do I pay for it, if it's useless?!) , my order has been cancelled as undeliverable! Outrageous! I have been the store's customer for many years and do a lot of shopping here but the fact that several packages (other parts of my order have also been canceled) never made it here as I was counting on, ruined my gift giving experience and I was never even given an option to receive items at later time, that came as a huge disappointment.

This "review" is not based on me having actually read this book but a commentary on a few other sticking points I have with this offering:
1. It's priced at $49.95 which is way over priced compared to similar books in the same category. For example, take a book like Annie Duke's latest, "Decide To Play Great Poker", which is priced at $23.07 (lists at $34.95) and has a whopping 450 pages, whereas this book only has 241 pages. That means that this book basically costs four (4) times as much. That's pure greed.
2. It's being advertised as being available for sale on the store, but it's actually NOT sold by the store directly. the store is only a front for the publisher himself who sells it directly. That means I, as an the store customer, can not take advantage of the "FREE Super Saver Shipping" option (I bundle a lot of purchases to save money.) But that's a mute point really (see #3)
3. Last I checked it's still 2011 and there are MORE eBooks sold than traditional paperbacks, and yet, this book is NOT offered for sale in the Kindle format. I personally stopped purchasing paper books more than a year ago and it's time this publisher jumps on the train to the future. In fact, the future is already HERE!
That boggles my mind, why he wouldn't make this book available in digital format. I know for a fact that this book already exists in PDF format, so it would be VERY LITTLE extra work on the part of the publisher to make it available in eBook format. And if he did, the sales would sky rocket! Trust me on this; I know plenty of people who only buy eBooks.
And pretty much all of his competition is selling their books in digital format so it doesn't make sense really why this guy doesn't want his book available to a bigger audience and start making more money. That's pure stupidity.
Now, as far as the content of the book goes, I'm dying to read it since I've heard it's great! But as it stands now, I wouldn't know: It's way over priced and not available in the Kindle format. So I guess I gotta wait... Or I could try to get hold of the PDF I know is out there, but that wouldn't be right. I don't mind paying for the books I read, but for God's sake, make it affordable and readily available for ALL!

Easily the best poker book out there. Once you have a fundamental understanding of how the game works (or if you think you do), the most important thing is understanding the mental side of things. This book truly takes your poker game to a much better level. It may not help you win more/lose less, but it sure will help you to handle the wins/losses much better. I used to walk away from the table so angry after I would run my aces into kings and get beat, or other coolers. After reading this book, I don't walk away with the same anger towards the game. Definitely a must read for any poker player.

Not worth the time if you've read anything close to this content. Self-control and mindfulness are covered much better in so many other formats. Just because it has "poker" in the title, doesn't mean the content is original.
