This book will knock your socks off! The voice is simply stunning. The author captures Hawthorn’s need to find Lizzie so beautifully and believably that you will feel the same need as the book goes on. The characters were so well-drawn that they became more like friends and neighbors than fictional people. The ending left me absolutely gutted (but in the best of ways) because I was feeling everything that Hawthorn was. Brilliant.

Hawthorn is a quirky and different person, which makes her high school experience difficult. When golden girl Lizzie Lovett disappears, Hawthorne becomes obsessed with her disappearance. In her search for answers about Lizzie"s disappearance she finds out a lot about herself and making her own way in the world. A wonderful book.

Put this on your YA shelf. Sedoti has neatly captured the voices in my teenage head and I suspect in a lot of other peoples as well. Hawthorn is a terrific character who I found completely realistic. Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC. I didn't realize it was a YA when I requested it but I'm very glad I did. It's well written and thoughtful-it spoke to me as an adult and reminded me of my youth.

This book was much better than I thought it would be. I was afraid it would suffer from perfect characters, but they are just normal people. The discussion of normal vs. interesting vs. popular is subtly handled. Perception based on first impressions runs through the book. This book has stuck in my head - in a positive way.

The summary interested me but book didn’t live up to the hype. Main character was not likable. Story moved so slowly that it was boring BUT I still wanted to know the outcome. Wish there was a way I could just fast forward thru to find out what happened to Lizzie because I couldn’t careless about Hawthorn. Reading it is torturously slow.

You know how every time someone goes missing there's a bunch of armchair detectives coming up with the stupidest stories about how and why someone disappeared just so they can get attention? Hawthorn is one of those people. The whole story is Hawthorn trying to make everything about her no matter how ridiculous she has to be. Hawthorn is one of the most unlikable character I have read about in quite some time. I was actually siding with bullies.

I was hoping that Hawthorn would get some mental help (believing that someone is a werewolf with absolutely no evidence and insisting on it for so long is not healthy) but was disappointed.

Wow.
Just ... wow.
I love this book so fanatically that if I ever lost my mind and decided to give birth to another child and that child ended up being a girl her first name would end up being Hawthorn. Heck, her middle name may very well be Creely just so I could call her "Little Creely" once in a while.
Read this book.
It's rare that I get so caught up in a "YA" book. Middle grade? Sure. Full-blown "adult" books? Not a problem. Unless there's some sort of mystical magical otherworldly freakiness going on, though, "YA" just really isn't my thing.
And then I met Hawthorn. And I got her. And she got me.
She's awkward. She's nerdy. She tries to hide more than she tries to stand out. She could count the number of friends she has on one hand. Actually, she could do it on one finger.
When super popular Lizzie Lovett disappears, Hawthorn starts to appear.
It's painful and beautiful and .... everything.
Read. This. Book.
Maybe I can convince my son to name a future granddaughter Hawthorn .... hmmmmm .....

Hawthorn is a young woman who lives the journey of adolescence and its attendant mysteries, magic, and misery with great heart. The mature reader will revisit their own younger life and be able to empathize with her angst. Even though there is struggle, there is also satisfaction. And adventure.

I struggled through this book, finding the pacing slow and the main character unlikeable and self-obsessed.

I was voluntarily provided with a complimentary review copy by the publisher.

The basic story is simple. The ideas added in aren't much more complex. The only truly interesting part is the personal growth achieved by the main character, Hawthorn. I wish the story had been more fascinating, however I don't believe that was the author's goal.

Even though I feel that this novel was written for younger adults, I still enjoyed it very much. Gave a clearer insight to the kind of world that teens today are living. Great imagery!! Characters very believable, and touching.

Started out rather promising... then reverted to typical YL underage sex and requisite "f-bombs." I found myself hoping that the end of each of the last FIVE chapters would be the end of the book.... only kept reading to solve the mystery.....

Oh, Little Creely. What an amazing world you live in.

I adored this book, with its awkward, imaginative MC Hawthorn Creely and her vivid life - internal and otherwise. And everyone around her - weird and lovely and cranky and wonderful. I had tears in my eyes many times at the end of this book. Sundog, Vernon, Timothy Leary... oh, my heart.

While on a camping trip with her boyfriend, which leads Hawthorn on a convoluted voyage of self discovery while trying to figure out what could have made a girl, who by all outward appearances had everything going for her, just disappear.

For me, this book was all about the incredible main character. Hawthorn had such a unique voice. She will make you laugh out loud with one sentence and rip your heart into tiny little pieces with the next. I had tears in my eyes as I turned the last page, with the sadness that comes from saying goodbye to a dear friend. This book will stay with me for a long time. Beautiful.

Hawthorne is a mess but as self focused and unpopular as she is, she has a unique spirit. The mystery of Lizzie Lovett’s disappearance is a backdrop for a lot of self discovery—a great ending makes this read worthy.

I loved this book! The voice was incredible and easy to relate to. Not one of those main characters who has it all together, Hawthorn is messy and makes mistakes. The premise is super unique and sad, but the book ends up feeling hopeful.

The voice in this book is so authentic, so unique, it is what drew me in at first. Hawthorn is unique, annoying, obnoxious, snarky, acerbic, and so REAL that it made me want to keep reading. The story lagged a little, but the writing was top notch. Great read with a compelling, unique voice. I haven't read one like it, and I've read a lot of books.

I really was skeptical of the book at first; however, it sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading it. This was my first book to read by Chelsea Desoto and it won't be my last. Hawthorne resembles a piece of us all in some way. This coming-of-age novel makes you think and for once doesn't paint the parents as totally absent or to be the enemy. Good, easy read.

This book was cute, funny, disturbing, yet profound at times.

Without giving the storyline away, this is a good book for those us who have compared our lives with someone else. Or thought that another person's life was perfect.

I had a hard time getting into this story, partially because I didn't like the main character. I'm happy I stuck with it though! Hey character developed into someone I cared about seeing through to the end.

There are so many current themes in this book! The lesson is truly "nothing is as it appears" and "our impressions of others can be totally wrong". The character development in this book is superb. The story kept me engrossed to the last paragraph!

I almost stopped reading this book. The main character, Hawthorne, was shallow and young. I am so glad I kept reading. Her character develops through her interactions with many people and events. I loved this story.

Hawthorne is a wonderful, imaginative, character. This was a good exploration of her maturing and learning in relationships. Other characters well developed overall, too. Good for older teens and above.

I enjoyed this book even though many parts were quite sad and hard to read. I thought I knew how the mystery would end and was entirely wrong. My favorite part was reading how much the protagonist evolved and matured.

When I started reading this I thought this was too crazy and wasn't sure if I would finish it. But I keep reading, and couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened. Glad I kept on reading and finished the book!

I picked this ebook up because there was an event. I didn’t read what it was about, the cover and title were interesting. It didn’t let me down. I was surprised by the storyline/content in a good way.
