Touching memoir detailing a brutal season in Shauna's life and how her decision to embrace and thrive in the sweet helped to soften the bitter. As a writer, Shauna really comes into her stride in Bread & Wine, but this is also a good read for anyone looking for a companion for a dark season.

This book is so honest and real. I desperately needed to read these stories and be reminded of the beauty of life in the midst of pain. Thankful for this book, for Shauna's heart and vulnerability. Christ my comforter!

I just love Shauna Neiquist. Her stories are so relatable and this book is an easy enjoyable read but also insightful into the beauty of struggle and pain. She always inspires me and encourages me. I definitely recommend Bittersweet.
The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett :: Our Dirty Secret (A MFM Ménage Romance) :: Home Fires Burning (Walking in the Rain Book 2) :: Part Two (The Walking Dead Series) - The Fall of the Governor :: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler - More Soulful Way of Living

This book both puzzled and encouraged me. Some of the perspective didn't seem in line with Biblical truth but there was so much that most women would identify with and be encouraged by that I will still recommend it. It is like small snippets into Niequist's life that are
wholly transparent and sometimes painful but completely honest and vulnerable. At the end you will know God is great and able to walk you through the trials in life and bring you out on the other side trusting Him more.

After experiencing a miscarriage, a friend gave this book to me, and I am so glad for it! It speaks truthfully to the heartache in life, and offers hope through relatable stories and inspirational attempts. So so good.

What a beautiful book. This is probably my third or fourth time reading it, and every time I feel like I gain something new for the here and now.

This is the type of book where you aren't simply reading about Shauna's life, but you are invited to walk alongside her and experience it. It is as if she is sitting right in my living room, sharing her story with me.

As busy mothers of young children, it is not often that we get to read an entire book cover to cover. This is exactly what we did with both Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines. The short and entertaining chapters make the books accessible and enjoyable. Shauna is truly gifted in that she is able to write down what so many of us are feeling inside - and so the experience of reading her stories is cathartic and very therapeutic. She captures the everyday moments with true grace and wit. We were sad to come to the last page of both of her books, as we didn't want them to end. She can only get better - and we can't wait to read her next book!

A friend recommended this book and I downloaded it but didn't get around to reading it until now. Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in the pain of what you are going through but this book is a great reminder that we can grow and learn from everything we go through.

This was another good read by Shauna Niequist. She is so honest and true in her writing, able to put into words what we have all felt at one time or another. I am sad when I finish her books because I want to keep reading her story.

Bittersweet is simply amazing. I've laughed and cried and savored every word. The expectations I set for it, after reading Cold Tangerines, was high. And it reached every single one. I have 40 pages left and intend to read it again as soon as I'm finished.

Shauna does it again. I read and reread chapters, soaking up every word. She speaks to my heart again and again. I'm so thankful for an author that is willing to share such personal stories so that we as readers know we're not alone.

Shauna. Has done it again. She gets through to people in her writhing. We have all been there. Maybe not the exact circumstances but similar ones. She , like me, tells us to pray. That God has the o lynch plan for us. Again, Shauna has opened her heart and soul to her readers.

Bittersweet is my favorite of Shauna Niequist's books. It's a go-to in very raw seasons when I feel like I need a friend. Shauna's voice is kind and her various experiences provide much for the reader to relate to.

This gives real life pictures of a real person experience the normalcies of the ups and downs of life. She shows how she coped with those situations. While a person won't follow her path each time, it does help to know that you can learn to flow and come out above it all. A worthwhile read.
