Kicking myself for not looking at the photos, since I'm normally pretty thorough with reviews. This unfortunately lives up to the saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover." The quality of the book is great, love the large letters, and that it's great for kinesthetic learning. However, I bought this thinking you could trace both the upper and lower case letters as the cover leads you to believe. Only the upper are traceable.

This is an awesome first letter book for toddlers. Each letter has a lift-the-flap on the page, with a picture under the flap as well as one on top of the flap itself (for example, A has both ant and apple). You can also use it to introduce handwriting as it has the arrows to indicate how to write each letter. I haven't used it for that, but my toddler loves all the flaps and it's very sturdy.

What a clever and deligtful way to learn the alphabet. The illustrations, the textured letters and flip open mini pages offers three learning modalities on every page. This is a must have book for every child's home library and ever early educator's classroom library.

Great quality product for a reasonable price. I use a sharpie pen to write in the names of family members that coordinate with each letter. That way when we read the book, we go over each person's name as well and this helps our children become more familiar with family names (especially extended family)!

Troubling that the publishers and author don't have a clue about the English phonetic system. 2 of the word examples that preschoolers have to guess are absolutely wrong! "or" does NOT make the "o" sound and "s" never makes the "sh". Did this author learn digraphs???

I am teaching my daughter English in a country where English is a second language, and this book was incredibly helpful for moving her from sight recognition of English letters to practicing writing the alphabet. My 3 year old was resistant to practice writing, putting down the pencil and saying "I don't know" when I tried to work on writing the letters with her. But by opening this book and tracing the letters in the book with her finger, then drawing dots on a paper or whiteboard for her to connect to make the letter shapes, she felt more confident and enjoyed it, even bringing the book to me herself and asking to practice.
We also read this book at bed time often, but I advise doing only half the book at a time (Letters A-M, or start from the back of the book and do letter Z-N) because 26 letters at a time may be too much for a toddler's attention span.
An excellent book for helping to bridge the gap from the point of recognition to the point of production of letters.

The doors, the tactile touching of the letters, and accessible words for each letter make this the greatest alphabet book of my arsenal of alphabet books. This engages my son in many different ways and holds his attention many times better than any other alphabet book has.

This suspenseful story takes a fresh look at the characters we may think we're familiar with. The author has done some in depth research and in this tattler reveals a side of each of his subjects completely unknown until now. Yes, A is indeed for Apple, but as this fast moving tale reveals on the very first page, [spoiler alert] it is also for Ant! Not many books go into this level of detail. I find myself returning to the pages of this exciting work, along with some of my acquaintances, several times a day. And the author is able to keep the suspense up page after page. All the way to Z is for Zebra and, well, I won't spoil the book for you. Buy it yourself and learn more than you thought there was to know.

The only issues I have with the book is that on the P is for Pig page the flip cover over "and Pear" is damaged and held in place with some Duct Tape. But don't let this discourage you from buying the book. I understand that in recent editions this problem has been rectified. I am also disappointed there is no Kindle edition.

Recommended.

I teach second grade and have five students who do not know all the letters of the alphabet, and even fewer letter sounds. They also struggle with letter formation. I purchased 5 of these for small group. The uppercase letters are recessed with directional arrows. It makes it easier for the students to trace the letters with their fingers in the right sequence. The book also has pictures to connect with the letter sounds. I use these books to drill correct letter name, sound and formation. The kids are engaged and showing improvement. I love them.
