This book was recommended to me for a family member. I have not read it, but did glance thru a few sections. I have been told it is "right on" when it comes to this unimaginable situation, by a friend who lost her husband. So I pass it on....

I purchased this book (among many others) four months after I was suddenly widowed. I have read and re-read sections of the book time and again. Ms. Ginsburg is "one of us" and knows whereof she speaks.
I have returned to purchase a copy as a gift for a newly widowed friend. I don't want her to have to wait until she is able to go searching for the resources contained in Widow to Widow.

This is a great little book for the recently widowed. It answers those questions no one around you seems to be able to. We are not familiar with grief and its affect so dealing with it is so hard. Nice tips for dealing with people, making decisions, grieving. Easy to read and understand.

This book was recommended to me when I became widowed last year. I found it so valuable that I often give it to other new widows/widowers. Our grief support group all read it and consider it one of the most helpful books available on grieving and rebuilding your life. I still refer to it and highly recommend it.

My group "The Surviving Spouse Association" helps widows during the traumatic days after loosing a spouse. This book provides great insight into the mental anguish that these women suffer. It is well written and provides suggestions for helping understand these ladies. I recommend it not only for recent widows but also for their family members.

Having read many books on grief, I have found this absolutely the most practical book (based on years of research) to assist any widow who is grieving and mourning. Have purchased this for a friend who lost her husband recently and I know it will help her regain her zest for life.

Very practical guide to widowhood. Everyone experiences grief differently but this gives you some reference points. There is so much busy work at a time when you are exhausted and overwhelmed so it helps for someone who has been through it to help you decide what has to be done and to tell you that not everyone handles things the same way.
If you are going to be helping a widow, this would be an ideal read. I couldn't bear to read it while my husband was dying but later wished I had forced myself to finish it as some of the information would have been so helpful immediately afterward. I would recommend it to any widow.

I bought this for my sister who suddenly was widowed 6 months ago and she has found it an excellent book. She says the author speaks about all the things that she is feeling and she finds it very helpful.

Becoming a widow is a devastating experience for most women. Not only do you lose a life partner but you also lose an entire way of life. Widows have no choice - they must rebuild their lives. Ginsburg's book is an honest account of the challenges widows face with strategies for meeting those challenges. If you find yourself in the terrible position of being widowed, or you know someone sho has been widowed, this is an excellent book to read. There is no "playbook" for being a widow, yet this book is as close as it gets.
