Cool stories but warning, not for children. I had to edit many of the stories as I read to our kids. That worked until our oldest could read so well that she started saying "That's not what it says." and "what does that mean..."

I am not seeing any warnings in the reviews. So, parents, please read this before giving this book to your kids to read! I am a parent of an eight year-old boy who loves everything Percy Jackson, the books and the movies. I am a huge fan of the series as well. I do read the series to my son every night. But, I absolutely will not be reading this to my son at all anytime soon. Below is why.

Yes, I have been reading this novel and I do love it. Yes, it is funny, sarcastic, and witty as others have noted. That is why I gave it 5-star rating.

HOWEVER....The gods are made out to be rapist--big time rapists. Yes, Percy gives nice warnings and all of that. Percy does not excuse the gods behavior. But, it is in this book and there is a lot, in particular with Zeus. So, please, be very aware of this and decide if it is right for your child to read.

I have an avid Greek mythology lover. From what I understand (I am aware I may be wrong but I read this is several different places) that the *original* myths were not that violent and Zeus (and none of the other gods) were painted as rapists. All the sex they did with goddesses and mortals were all consensual. The myths became more violent over time, particularly when the Romans took over, and that was how the gods became big-time rapists. Why Rick Riordan chose to paint the gods this why is beyond me. He has to know that kids will be reading this. I personally will not let my son be reading this until he is at least 13 years old and I can explain it to him in great detail.

The first thing I have to say is this book gorgeous.

John Rocco’s illustrations are breathtaking and the book is so professionally done that it could easily become a coffee table book that even adults would be proud to present.

Of course, that leads to the next issue, this book while gorgeous, is gargantuan. This is not the type of book that someone should or even could bring on a vacation to read by the beach, instead this is a book that you read inside while it’s propped up or laid down on a table to help support the weight.

Now that said, the e-book version which is easy to transport does include the gorgeous illustrations in color (if you have an e-reader or ipad that displays in color). So if you’re insistent on bringing this book to the beach then there is an available option.

As for the content, Riordan has done a fantastic job, this book contains the quick wit and entertaining tone that readers have come to expect from Percy Jackson, while at the same time it does an amazing job of presenting the Greek myths in a fashion to rival Edith Hamilton’s Mythology.

All in all if you’re a fan of Rick Riordan or want to learn about Greek Myths from an entertaining source then this is the book for you. Personally I think this is a book for all ages, and I whole heartedly recommend it.

This book was a huge dissapointment. First of all, it wasn't written in Percy Jackson's "voice". It sounded more like one of the Kane siblings. Very immature to say the least. In no way did I ever imagine Percy writing this book, I kept picturing Carter Kane due to the complete immaturity of the writing. Second, pointing out the fact that the Greek Gods either married or had relationships with their siblings, parents, children, etc., did not need to be pointed out so much. Seriously, the target audience would probably not even pick up on the fact. I think Mr. Riordan has too many series and characters going that he can't remember who's who anymore. Don't waste your money. Borrow it from the library if you really want to read it.

The Lightning Thief sparked an interest in Greek Mythology in both my kids and they checked out many books on the subject from the library. However, more often than not the dry style of writing did not appeal to my younger son. He did work his way through some of the books but this was more out of curiosity about the material covered by Riordan than an avid love of the subject matter.

He got this book yesterday and, except for an enforced night's sleep, hasn't surfaced from it for hours! This is not a light book but he has been lugging it around everywhere with him! This book is utterly irreverent and hilarious and is filled with Percy's signature wit. The larger details of the myths are all there but they are tweaked more than a little and written with the humor of a modern child, For example, the story of Hestia is titled 'Hestia chooses Bachelor Number Zero' and one of the quotes from Zeus is "Both of these fine gods want to marry you. Because I am a stand-up king and all-around thoughtful dude, I will let you pick. Bachelor Number One. Poseidon, likes long walks on the beach and scuba diving. Bachelor Number two, Apollo, enjoys music and poetry and spends his free time reading prophecies at the Oracle of Delphi. Which do you like better?" or try this line "You can't swing a cat in Ancient Greece without hitting one of Zeus' ex-girlfriends." Or just have a quick look at the Table of contents with chapters titled "The Olympians bash some heads" or 'Demeter turns into grainzilla"!

The book is not lacking in text and is a good read for an advanced elementary reader. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous but only appear occasionally making this a good solid read. This is a wonderful expansion on the Percy Jackson series and I hope it will encourage an interest in mythology in my young readers.

Update: Two days after writing this review we made a trip to our local library and the child brought home an armful of the Myth-o-mania series, a comic book version of the Odyssey and D'Aulaire's book on Greek Myths! I couldn't be more pleased!

This book was hilarious, beautiful and made me learn a lot about the gods at the same time. I really wish I had this book when I was still studying greek mythology, because it would have made it a lot easier, and a lot more fun.

The book begins with Percy talking us through the rule of the primordial gods and the titans, and how the titans defeated their dad Ouranos. After that, he tells us about the birth of the gods and how they defeated Kronos. This is al wrapped up in about 2 chapters, and after this, every chapter is fully deticated to an Olympian god, Hades and Persephone. Each chapter tells us about the god: the birth, their 'most noticable deeds', a bit of their love life and their children. It provides you with a lot of information about the gods without making you feel like you're reading a textbook, and it's perfect for anyone who is even remotely interested in Greek mythology or who just loves Percy.

Even though Greek mythology is very complicated and weird, Rick Riordan figured out a way to tell it in quite a simple way. There are also a lot of different versions of these stories, but Mr. Riordan only discussed one version, which made things a lot more clear. He always chose the version of the story that made more sense.

The artwork in this book was absolutely beautiful, and it helped me visualize the story, because, honestly, it's quite hard for me to visualize baby Hermes stealing a herd of cows from Apollo, for example. The book had a full-page illustration in every chapter, and small illustrations scattered throughout the book. This made the book a lot easier to read, because the huge pages were quite intimidating at times, and it wasn't awful to look at either.

What I loved about this book was that, even though it was middle grade and greek mythology is full of murders and sex, Rick Riordan didn't try to sugar-coat it. He made it clear that the gods are scumbags, and also gives you a bit of life advice at the same time, like "Pro tip: if you're attacked by a creep, it's never your fault. Tell somebody." or while talking about Dionysus, Percy tells you to never drink wine because it's bad for you.

Because this is a middle-grade book, the sex wasn't discussed very openly. I don't think the word 'sex' even appeared in this book, because Rick Riordan or, eh, Percy used words like 'hanky-panky','cuddling' or simply said 'a while later', and I think this was a good solution. The murders were also discussed in a 'middle-grade way', so no blood or gore. I personally liked this a lot, because greek myths/stories are usually very bloody and that usually makes me feel a bit sick.

Overall, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I loved it, and I need to pick up the illustrated edition of Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes soon!

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods is Greek mythology at its finest. What's not to love about the return of the fabulous Percy Jackson's point of view? I can honestly say I missed his voice more than anything. He's that quirky, smart and sarcastic character you can't help but fall in love with. After the final book in The Heroes of Olympus, titled The Blood of Olympus, I was desperate for more Percy since he didn't appear very much in the final book. This book however, was so well done. Percy's voice and personality shines through in Riordan's writing style, for example the frequent use of em dashes and parentheses. It once again adds something to Percy's point of view, something I now love more than ever.

Percy's sense of humour and sarcastic remarks are always appreciated, even in the bloodiest and most gory scenes of the book. Especially in those cases, because it always lifts up the mood of the book and never comes across as serious lecture or an encyclopedia. Instead of just summing up facts and info dumps like I kind of first expected it to be, I loved how Riordan always created multiple stories that fit perfectly in the chronological order of the book, so readers can enjoy it even more. Like that I never had the impression of actively learning something unless I was trying really hard to remember all of the names.

Other than that, I think the author did a terrific job in portraying the lifestyles of the gods. The combination of stereotypes and remarkable differences was highly enjoyable and brought a new layer of depth to the world of Percy Jackson. We got a sort of a sneak peak into the everyday lives of the Greek gods and what they fill their immortal lives with. Though most of the gods are different and have a well-developed personality of their own, they all seem to have some particular things in common. A well-known and frequently used example in this book is how they all are unable to avoid love affairs and all sorts of drama. At least something that fits in tv-shows like Gossip Girl or The Bold and the Beautiful. Secretly we all fall easily for a healthy dose of drama, just as it was given in this book.If they actually give Riordan permission to turn it into a tv-show one day, let me know.

I adored all the stories I read, although some more than others. Keep in mind that everyone, myself included, has a preference when it comes to the gods. That is also why I automatically loved stories involving certain gods, whilst stories of gods I rather dislike I will enjoy a bit less. Unless those gods are being made a fool, then I will adore the story with all my heart. So yes, there were stories I didn't really care about or ones I didn't think mattered very much. I did learn to love some gods like Hephaestus because of this book, and especially because of their stories. Like him, they really are different when they have a story of their own to tell, not to appear for a few minutes to help demigods on a quest.

To at least say something about the illustrator of the book, I didn't think this book would have been as perfect as it is now. Rocco's drawings were simply a great addition. They fitted the story and Riordan's descriptions so well. Some were even so beautiful I felt like I could stare at them all day long. A great example of that is the drawing of Persephone's kidnapping. One word: gorgeous.

Uncle Rick remains one of my favourite authors of all time, and it has been proven once again. As if he couldn't do something else to make me love him even more. Because Percy Jackson's Greek Gods remains in the Middle Grade genre, he made a very smart decision to sort of sugarcoat stories and put in all sorts of hidden life lessons. I'm personally not the biggest when of sugarcoating, only when it's necessary. To me, writing a book about the ancient Greek myths which should be appropriate for kids is a valid reason. There's already enough sex, rape and violence as there is, and in my opinion it was really smart to still mention it, yet in a way you know what it's about but don't get it thrown in your face. The hidden life lessons may seem a bit repetitive when a teenager reads them. Maybe we all know as a teen it's bad to use drugs and that you should tell someone when you encounter harassment, but it can be great for younger children. Another reason why Riordan deserves all the applause he can get.

In a nutshell, Percy Jackson's Greek Gods brought back all the Percy Jackson feels. It's only now I realise I'm not ready to say goodbye. In fact, I don't think I'll ever be able to. Reading this book made me gain more knowledge of the Greek mythology than I ever did in the five years since I've become obsessed with it. There will always be more to learn, but for now I'm not prepard to learn every god out there, nor any family trees. The Greeks already made that aspect of their mythology as complicated as it is. I just had so much fun reading this book, I can barely wait for the next installment. Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes, my body is ready.

Adjectives, Adverbs or such and such superlatives are just not proficient to explain just how much I loved this gigantosaurus book. Yes you heard, i bought the bigger imprint of the book and not the tiny one ..... so happy i was able to save for this ..... If you know me, then you know just how much I love mythology ..... and the Greek one had always been a favorite one too. Of course I had already read the original grisly details in full before so I knew what to expect but reading it all again in Percy Jackson's snarky and humor really brought a new life to the old tales.

Its funny. Its hilarious. Has gallons of jokes on kfc, One Direction and Justin Bieber to name a few. Its educational too with so many gorgeous illustrations to accompany Riordan's narrative. Top it all of its our favorite narrator Demigod Percy Jackson, going about it all in his sly and sarcastic way. Going the subtle way Rick Riordan tries to minimize on the gory details of these old myths by saying that, "so and so got his way" or so and so got a bit too cuddly with the unfortunate other ...... because at the end of it this is a middle grade series and really you don't scare the kids with all the 'R' - Rated details about the Gods.

Riordan also throws in some pretty great advice in between the lines here and there about the Gods in general, the female sect and announcements like no drinking before you are 30 or something .... Took me sometime too finish it but I definitely loved what I found in this book and as usual Riordan's writing and Percy's sly and dry humor sets it of fabulously.

Laugh-out-loud funny, and very entertaining. Yes, I already knew all of the Greek myth stories inside and out, but I absolutely love the humor and modernization of the stories. Hilarious. Somewhat cliche in places, but still entertaining. Even though I loved the Percy Jackson stories, I wasn't actually planning to read this cover to cover--planned to put it right on the library shelves for the kids, but after perusing a couple stories, I knew I had to read the whole book first myself. I'm keeping my teenage son entertained by texting him the funniest snippets from the book.

Yes, it is a large and unwieldy book, but I think it's worth it to get the hardcover rather than the Kindle version just for the beautiful color photos. (And I would take Kindle over a paper book 99.99% of the time). After reading my library copy, I will be purchasing a copy for my own kids to read.

My son is a huge fan of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, so he definitely wanted to read this one as well. Not an adventure of Percy's at all, this has Percy re-telling the tales of the Greek gods in his own words. The book has 19 chapters, and starts off with the various creation myths, tales of the titans, the birth of the gods, and the war between the gods and the titans. Interjected with a lot of "you'll hear more about this person later", and comments about Jackson's own interactions with the characters in the 10 books of Riordan's that he appears in, the tone is fun, lively, and full of standard teenage phrases, references to school life, etc. Chapters on major male gods tend to list the offspring (gods or demi-gods) they had with other goddesses/mortal women/dryads, etc, and other related misadventures. Riordan gets a bit preachy when the parts about wine come in, as he gives the legally-required warnings about under-age drinking, but I suppose it's necessary for the impressionable youth.

Not quite all that interesting for an adult reader, it's still good fun and a light read; highly recommended for kids, though.

Perhaps the highlight of my edition of the book, which is actually called Percy Jackson And The Greek Gods (not listed here), is an additional "chapter" at the end called "Son Of Sobek"; this is a Heroes Of Olympus and Kane Chronicles crossover, where Percy meets Carter Kane, descendant of Egyptian pharoahs and a great magician in his own right. The two meet for the first time to battle a giant mystic crocodile on Long Island; initially mistrustful of each other, this rapid action pairing comes off a bit like one of those old Marvel Team-Up comics that I read as a kid, where the two heroes misunderstand each other initially and trade blows, but quickly figure each other out and eventually join forces to defeat in invincible foe. Good fun. And while it's not part of a greater story arc the way all of Riordan's other tales seem to be - a bit of a standalone adventure here - there's hint of more team-ups to come... we just don't know when.

This retelling of the classic greek myths was absolutely fantastic. Rick Riordan makes each tale relatable by adding quips and anachronistic descriptors to events and people. Through his character Percy Jackson, we see the Gods and Goddesses in all of their glory - dirty laundry and all. I may be slightly biased as I love mythology, and will occasionally make a joke referencing Cerberus or Hermes' flying sandals, but this novel was incredibly entertaining. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to pick up a physical copy of it. The illustrations in my ebook form were wonderful, although I expect they'd be brilliant in color.

Percy Jackson is the perfect author/narrator for this novel. Adding his sarcastic spin on tales like the union of Aphrodite and Hephaestus: “So Aphrodite married Hephaestus and the celebrity ship Aphrophaestus completely dominated Olympian tabloid news for like a thousand years. Did they live happily ever after? HAHAHAHAHA. No.” I highlighted an incredible number of quotes that either gave really great descriptions for things or was just incredibly hilarious and I wanted to remember it. He would take the time to explain the rivers of the Underworld, like the Acheron and Styx while giving the reader facts about them in an interesting way. For example, he explained the names of the rivers and their meanings, the incredibly complicated family dynamics, and even some of the punishments Hades created.

I'm not even going to waste your time making you read a long review. If you know any greek mythology, you will enjoy this fresh new take on them. And if somehow, you've been living under a rock for your entire life and have never heard of Zeus before (don't tell him, he's got an attitude) then this is an enjoyable way to learn. In the unfortunate event that you cannot read, bribe a friend into reading this to you each night before you go to bed. It's worth it. Or you know, purchase the audiobook.

The age range for these books tend to be middle/young readers but anyone can enjoy it. If you like fantasy, romance, violence, debauchery, history, biography or anything remotely similar than you will enjoy this book - young, old, or illiterate.

I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, although I often had to remind myself that the books were written for middle-school children and not young adults. That said, I thought Percy Jackson's Greek Gods was an interesting take on a "family history". Writing in Percy's POV cannot be easy, considering the subject matter and the fact that the main series is written in third person. I didn't really like the little jokes, but, again, it wasn't written for me and I thought younger children would really enjoy them. The subject matter was interesting. I'm a fan of Greek mythology so I found the small personalizations of the gods interesting and sometimes clever.

I listened to the audio version of this book and found Jesse Bernstein to be a decent narrator. I've listened to all the books, so I was familiar with the voices and personalities. I especially enjoyed the voice Bernstein gave Sisyphus' wife. The comedic timing felt a bit off in this one, but overall, he did a decent job.

Great companion book for the Percy Jackson lovers out there.

I've never read this book, but my two third graders have monopolized it from their school library. Every week, one or the other comes home with it tucked in their backpacks or under their arms. Back and forth to school it goes. One time, when someone else got their paws on it, my kid was nearly devastated! So, here I am, writing a 5-star review for a book that has inspired my children's interest in all things greek mythology before I buy a copy or two.

I absolutely loved this. I've always been intrigued by the Roman and Greek mythology and that is what got me into reading the Percy Jackson series in the first place. After reading those, I got addicted to Rick Riordan's writing. He is one of the few authors on my auto-read list. No matter what the story is about, if he wrote it, I'm reading it.

I feel like this book would be amazing for any teenager/child who wants/needs to learn about mythology. Not only are the most important gods described here, it's told through Percy's perpective. Which means it's hilarious. And because it is fun to read, you will be more likely to actually remember the myths.

Anyway, go ahead and read this! Right now.

And we’re back to Percy Jackson.

For those of you who have read or have a child who has read the final book in the HEROES OF OLYMPUS series, THE BLOOD OF OLYMPUS, I offer you my tissue box and my sympathetic heart of feels. For me, who grew up with Percy Jackson and Greek myths, it’s going to be really hard to say goodbye in these amazing characters and this series in general. For those of you who know a child who is in the middle-grade age and they have not read this book, I really recommend that you buy the first Percy Jackson book, THE LIGHTNING THIEF, for them.

They will grow up to thank you.

Moving on to this book though, there was honestly so much I loved about it. This is from Percy himself, writing a book with his own humor and character, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better parting gift from this series from Rick Riordan. The spin that Riordan puts on these stories are fun, unique and relatable. One of my favorite books long before I read Rick Riordan’s books was a big book of Greek myths. I would read it over and over again, and I feel like this guide to Greek mythology will open up these stories to younger readers in a way that is uncomplicated, hilarious and relatable. I loved this addition to Riordan’s books, and I cannot wait for his new Norse mythology series. 4 stars.

I love all the Percy Jackson books and Heros of Olympus but this I didny care for. Sorry. I don't know if it was written poorly because it was a narrative coming from Percy or if it was just a quick put together give them something to read.

This is a fantastic read for all ages. While the writing style may be aimed towards children and teenagers, it is certainly an enjoyable read for adults who love Greek mythology. The stories stay close to the original versions (of which there are many), and they are told in a humorous narrative, with hilarious commentary by the author as he points out the moronic, sex-fueled, un-Godlike behaviour that the Greek pantheon so very often engaged in. If you read through some of the negative reviews, you'll find that some parents are claiming that the book may be a little too "adult" for younger children, because it covers stories that include rape and incest. Please realize that these are true "events" in the mythology, and the author never glorifies them, but instead makes many comments about how dumb the Greek Gods were for engaging in this type of behavior. The Christian bible is equally full of rape, murder, and incest.

Die-hard Greek mythology fans will finish the book and shout "He left out X God/Goddess/hero/story!", but at 313 pages long, this book covers most of the major Olympia events. It's a great starting point for any young person looking to get into Greek mythology, and a great addition to the collection of any adult Greek mythology lover. The hardcover version is quite a large, heavy book, not something you can hold up in a chair. It's more suitable for reading on a desk. The illustrations are quite gorgeous and vivid in color, but they are few and far between, I found myself wishing it had more illustrations to complement the stories. I suppose ink isn't very cheap these days!

If you purchase this book for a child under the age of 12, I would recommend reading it with them, and discussing how the ancient cultures viewed topics like rape and incest. But just because these topics are a part of the mythology, does not mean you should avoid giving it to a young child. I was given the Christian bible to read at the age of 6, and that has far more incest, murder, and rape than this book.

Excellent book!! My son got this & the Heroes book for his birthday (12yo) & loves both of them! He read them both in just a couple of days and was so engrossed in them that he didn't want to do anything other than read, which is a dream-come-true for me. I can't recommend these enough- but do yourself a favor & get them!!

I've been a voracious reader of the Percy Jackson series for at least 5-6 years and so, I was ecstatic to hear that a retelling of the Greek myths from Percy's point-of-view would be published. Percy Jackson's Greek Gods is a hilarious, clever rendition of classical mythology that readers will absolutely love. This is a gigantic coffee-table sized book with absolutely gorgeous illustrations and this well-designed book that looks absolutely amazing on my bookshelf.

Readers will get quite the workout while reading Percy Jackson's Greek Gods because this book is seriously heavy. It was an interesting decision to make this book into a coffee table book and the illustrations are truly spectacular and mesmerizing. I would definitely reread this book in a few years, but I can definitely see myself in the near future paging through this one and just staring at Rocco's illustrations. I was in awe of the vivid, perfect depictions of the Greek Gods that Rocco illustrated and he brings the Gods to life in all their grace and glory.

Percy Jackson's Greek Gods is the perfect way to further readers' knowledge about mythology and the Olympians. Riordan infuses mythology with Percy's signature humor and I found myself smiling and laughing constantly while reading. Percy looks at the myths in a totally different light -- one that is extremely modern, fresh and extremely appealing. There are references to the Percy Jackson series, but there are also fitting references to Doctor Who, Tumblr, OTPs and so much more. Even though the myths are analyzed in a modern light, Riordan stills maintains the integrity and spirit of the classical tales. All of the wonder and glorious details from the original tales are still here, Riordan just supplements them with Percy's wit and banter.

I absolutely loved Percy Jackson's Greek Gods; this is the perfect book to sate fans' hunger for the next Riordan novel and this definitely helped ease the wait till The Blood Of Olympus is released. I truly hope that Riordan tackles classical mythology in a similar vein in another companion book possibly about famous demigods like Hercules and Achilles.

Percy Jackson gives his own very accessible spin on the Greek Gods, focusing mainly on the twelve Olympians, though other gods and the Greek creation myth are touched on as well. I loved the tone that Riordan used throughout the book, it made the myths a lot more modern, in a way, since the language choices were modern. The essence of the old stories are there, but they are told in an up-to-date way through Percy Jackson’s retelling. Fans of Riordan’s books series will probably be able to pick up on the nods to the series. Some of the stories were familiar to me while other ones were new; I especially liked reading about the Titans. Figuring out Greek myths and how they interconnect can be difficult, but this book makes it easier! I would think that middle school and high school students would enjoy this one a great deal.

This author begins a book on the Greek Gods by insulting Zeus. "Take a back seat Zeus. Why does everything have to start with Zeus?"
FAIL.
So the illustrations look nice and this apparently sensitive PC feminist sounding male writer can be witty.

This is the age we are in, in the West. A far cry from the heroic and masculine golden age of Greece!

The full page art is very good but the text isn't what you might expect. Read some of the negative reviews and you'll see why. Jackson retells these famous myths with his own style of humor which many adults and some young people will find objectionable. I have to admit I was raised on the more traditional Greek myth (Hamilton, etc.) narrations and wasn't that impressed with this version.

I guess if it gets a young reader to take an interest in the stories it may be OK but some of the nay-sayers have a valid point on how Jackson treats some sensitive issues like rape and women in general. Would I get this book for my granddaughter...I very much doubt it!

I really, really love this book. It is full of Persassy from spine to cover. I'm going to make this quick, it discusses rape several times but, after all, it IS in the myths. I'm not rating in down for that sole reason and also because it doesn't support rape in any way. It is part of stupid ancient culture and it STILL is. It isn't right. It isn't fair. It is disgusting.I could go on for days about feminism and the support that I give to it, but i just wanted to end with a question.
I can understand why a few people would write poor reviews for Percy Jackson's Greek Gods. Some of the discussion is outrageous. But it isn't the author. It isn't the book. It isn't the content. It's the entire topic that makes me want to barf. My question to many people out there is, why in the world are you rating The Blood of Olympus and The House of Hades down for homosexuality? Is support of equal rights and the idea of two men/women being together in a romantic relationship really worse than rape? Maybe you should think about that before you add to the hundreds of homophobic HoH and BoO comments. If you should be against any of Rick's work shouldn't it be the mention of sexual assault, Gabe Ugliano beating Percy's mom in PJO, or perhaps the frequent mention of godly incest.

I have no idea whatsoever how Riordan does it. He is amazing at writing books and he is my favorite author of all time. Seriously, I swear on the river of Styx. This is amazing how he tells us about Greek mythology in Percy style. That is, funny, sarcastic, and in no way serious at all. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Riordan is a prodigy with words uses them up to their full potential as building blocks of an awesome story. I seriously don't know how I survived without reading his books. This is yet another stupendous book by Riordan and I'm confident that you are going to enjoy it.

"I don't want any of you drinking wine until you're at least 35 years old. Even then, you'll need a doctor's note and your parent's permission, drink responsibly (like one swig a month,) and never operate heavy machinery while under the influence."

See? Hilarious.

Anyway, you'll love this hilarious retelling of the Greek myths!

(p.s. don't drink wine)

For me, I would give it 5 stars. The reason for less stars is because I do, and have for a while, thought this series was marketed wrong. Some of this isn't appropriate for young kids (rape, bloody and gory imagery, incest, etc.). I've enjoyed it from middle school up into my adult years but I still don't understand why it is targeting so young. Rick is a very entertaining author and agree with many of the view points he portrays. Also, as a woman, I didn't see anything wrong with his portrayal of women. He did the best he could with the source material which was not written after the women's rights movement, encase you didn't noticed. I mean... It's ancient Greece people. I enjoyed the modern yet still realistic(if you can call myths that...) approach to the gods and I'd love to see him do more books like this.

This book was hysterical I laughed out loud at so many times I had tears rolling down my face. I had just read his description of Apollo killing Pythos and my dog let me know she needed to be walked. I was still laughing so hard I bet the neighbors thought I was crazy. I even had to tell people a work about that story and still was laughing. I also said the really need to read Mr. Riordan's book.

Let's face it. The internet is great. Just one quick search can lead you to days worth of information, games, shopping, and possibly most important: CAT VIDEOS. Right now, I want to focus on the information aspect. It's incredibly easy to hop on the computer and look up the Greek myths. So what in the world is the point of buying this book? After all, it's literally a collection of myths penned by the ancient Greeks thousands of years ago.

What makes this book different from the rest is that it's interesting.

I admit- I find those drab, textbook myths boring. I'm sure that most of you agree with me. Percy Jackson's Greek Gods is full of the myths we're all used to, but adapted for (almost) any audience to comprehend and enjoy. Rick Riordan provides comedic relief from the gory, ill-fated stories of the ancient Greeks. Percy, the narrator, from the widely received and loved Percy Jackson books wields sarcasm and humor as successfully as he wields his sword Riptide.

This book is also adorned with the illustrations of John Rocco. His work is impressive. It's especially impressive to me, as I can't even draw a straight line.

If you're a fan of Rick Riordan's books or have an interest in mythology, pick this book up, pour yourself a cup of nectar, and get ready to delve into the world of Greek mythology.

HOWEVER, please note that Riordan does take liberties in this adaptation of the Greek myths. Also, this may be unsuitable for younger audiences as their are mentions and story plots surrounding horrible topics such as rape and grimly deaths.

My 10 year old son absolutely loves this book - review written by him:
I loved the book, but I wish it wouldn’t skim over some of the major points of Greek mythology, such as how Gaea woke up and ignited the Gods war with the giants. Even with that misstep, the book is so good that I’ve read 13 times and counting. I’m not quite sure what I love about it. Maybe its the fact the author incorporated humor and perspective into “solid” myth. Maybe its the mythology in itself, the way it is presented very simply yet descriptively. Whatever it is , anybody who is even middy interested in Greek mythology will love this book.

I love this book because it is like behind the scenes back story's of all the Greek Gods. I was so sad it ended, but it was a really good book! I highly recommend this book to people. I read it two times and it was just as awesome as the first time I read it. If you just got into Rick Riordan's books, then you should try the Percy Jackson series and the Hero's of Olympus series. They are really good books and they will keep you occupied for a long time. There is also ANOTHER book coming out in FALL 2016!!!!! Why are they all coming out in Fall? Whatever, I just can't wait to get that book! It's called "Percy Jackson's Demigods." Anyways, peace out,

I've always thought it not fair that the best picture books are wasted on children who are too young to read them and truly too young to appreciate the stories and artwork. Alright, so I'm a little jealous. All those marvelous picture books! There should be something for adults like that.

And, now there is. Thank you, Rick Riordan. This huge book is truly a picture book adventure for young adults (or adults still stuck in their youth, like me). I felt like a little kid again every time I opened those pages. I loved the silky feel of each new chapter. I ooohed and aaaahed over the amazing illustrations. There was nothing NOT to love about this book.

This book is told to us by Percy Jackson, hero of Riordan's other books. In this one, Percy tell us the ancient stories of the Olympians and the Titans, going back to the very beginning of Greek history and Greek story. While I consider myself something of a "Jeopardy"-brain about Greek myth, there were many stories in there I hadn't heard of. What fun! It was sometimes hard to tell where Percy was embellishing, so I often had to rush to the computer or other books to read more. These are my favorite kinds of books--ones that light fuses I have to read more to put out.

The book is a delight from beginning to end. It would be a good read-aloud for younger kids but is a great Greek myth introduction to older kids and teens. And, if you're even older than that (like me), you won't be disappointed either. It's a book to love reading again and again.

This is such a great book. It is so funny. I've missed Percy so much during the Blood Of Olympus. I have been very angry. I was regreting my review. And then suddenly I read this and I almost forgave Mr. Riordan. Almost. This book is so funny wrote in Percy's point of view. Imagine his sarcastic remarks and then buy this book. If you don't like it...

I love this book. From Percy's POV, we get a good look at the Greek Gods and myths in a fresh, new, modern and true-to-his-personality perspective. I absolutely loved the part about Dinoysis invading India. That was absolutely hilarious.

For the negative reviews out here, um....I don't think you censor some of the gruesome and sensitive topics from the myths, nor is there any way around it other than Percy's take on it. Its like writing those homophobic reviews on HoH and BoO. It doesn't make any sense. Also, remember Aphrodite, I got some of the stuff he was trying to block out for younger readers, seeing as I already read up on the Gods. Also, you can't get around the simple fact of Ares saying: "He was trying to rape my daughter!" anymore simply and straight forward than it can be censored. Do remember that the people reading his books now are adults. (Its like the Harry Potter generation: THEY ARE GROWING UP.) As for my opinion, Uncle Rick hit a home run yet again.

He gives a brief description on how the Giants came to be.

This is a great book for six graders it is a story about the Greek gods from the books Percy Jackson and the Olympians or the other books Rick Riordan has written . It talks a lot about how the gods work and good information you might want to know to be more educated about the Greek gods. Rick Riordan is a great author and writes many books that are fun and adventurous. It talks about the 15 main gods Hestia, Demeter, Persephone, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus, Athena, Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, Apollo, Artemis, Hermes and Dionysus and the beginning before the gods overthrew their father and the Titans overthrew their father . I give this three stars because of some sad, scary and bad parts.

Summary: Rick Riordan is the author of the popular Percy Jackson book series. In the series, the Greek Gods are depicted in a modern setting, occasionally participating in our everyday life. Greek Gods is a mostly complete compilation of the complete history of the Greek Gods and Godessess written in a light and occasionally funny way.

The Good:
- Accurate to the mythos.
- Art is beautiful.
- Book binding is of good quality and sturdy.
- Great for all ages.
- Hides the "X" rated parts of Greek Mythology well.
- Keeps some of the more lengthy stories short and sweet.
- Some jokes are genuinely funny.

The Bad:
- Sometimes the references to "modern life" can be distracting.
- A little inconsistent on writing. At times, it feels obvious that this book was written for junior high students in mind.
- Can leave the reader with a sense of incompleteness. There are several stories completely unmentioned and some of the gods talked about in the first third of are left without closure.
- The book is massive. Over a foot tall, massive.

Details:
This is quite a hefty book and not to be joked around with. When I found this in my local book store, I mistook it for a deadly object.

In total, the book has over 300 pages and is jam-packed of the retelling of the Greek Mythos from the perspective of Percy Jackson. Thus, some of the gods have some bias and modern tropes thrown in as if a teenage boy wrote them. The only problem with that is that some of the stories seem to be written inconsistently. While some stories are written professionally, others seem to fall a little flat as the "writer" uses modern tropes and references in a way that can distract the reader from the focus. Sometimes, the tropes work very well and enhance the story being told.

Speaking of those sometimes distracting tropes... often times, the punch line to a joke is copied and made into a bigger font so that it stands out. Again, this is a distraction and often times, you will see it before the story you were enthralled in. So you will be reading a paragraph and know the punch line. This is a problem for a book that advertises itself as funny.

This is really the only complaint to be had with Percy Jackson's Greek Gods, though. The book has a strong binding and the pages are thick. The font is clear and easy to read and very colorful pictures are included in the book to help enrich the story. There are two really nicely sized pictures per chapter. One full page and one at a quarter. Overall, the artist did a fine job at their depictions and some of the images just leave an overall epic feel. By "some", I mean most, if not all. Even the picture that showed the five rivers in The Underworld is just plain amazing.

A few parts of Greek Mythology are just plain left out. This is a disappointment for those that know a thing or two about Greek Mythology.

Despite this, the book is still very enjoyable, though. If you are not sure if you should buy this, sample a chapter at Target. If you're buying this for someone that is a fan of Percy Jackson, then go ahead. They would likely enjoy it very much and you might as well.

Frankly, I thought I knew Greek mythology. I thought I knew about all those stories. But this book… it comepletely and utterly changed my insight on mythology.

Told from the POV of Percy Jackson, this book gives hilarious perspective on Greeks. I loved how vivid the stories and pictures were. Yeah, don't judge a book by its cover. This cover was vibrant, colorful, and detailed. And the boom was full of vibrancy, color, and detail.

I only have a few compliants. For one, some content in this book is not appropriate to read to your 2-year old before bedtime. Also, the stories aren't accurate in some ways. For an example, if Medusa wasn't even alive yet, how did Aegis have her face on it when Pallas was killed? And if Hermes invented the turtle, how did he use it when he was a baby?

Overall, though, this book is a great read and a wonderful new installment.

Really nice. Made me remember all of them gods of olympus instantly. There was this thing on rape and incest and of women being cheated upon by the male gods though.
