It was awesome!I have read lots of dragon based books like Eragon and Brisinger and this differently competes for my favorite book.I read it in a few hours.Best hours of my life.I couldn't put it down.I recommend it for ages 10 and up.

I am a sucker for fantasy from the get-go and The character of Nath Dragon is cocky and tough. He's also a dragon, who can take the shape of a man. If that hasn't piqued your interest, just wait, it gets better. Nath's life's work is to hunt dragon poachers. Along with his partner Brenwar, a dwarf with a gruff and wry sense of humor, Nath goes out of his way to find trouble before it finds him. I've read three novels by Halloran and each one surprises me more than the last. This author has the unique gift and skill of taking a classic theme and turning it on it's head, taking it in a completely new direction. This novel takes the mythical world of dragons and magical folk and weaves a tale filled with adventure. The dialog is excellent and the storytelling is stellar!

The story is fluid. Though it's written for someone younger than me, I still find the series enthralling and adventuresome. The lead character is easy to identify with. A great book series for fantasy fans.

I chose this rating because it has a lot of character. I would recommend this book to older readers such as late middle schoolers and early high schoolers. Really good book. Read it when you get a chance.

Like the author, I've
been readings sci-fi and fantasy for decades (perhaps Craig isn't that old). I look for a story I can enjoy with a character I can take an interest in. My biggest compliment is that a book tells a good story. Chronicles does.
The intention to provide well-written material to help students become readers is one I share.

This book is written for a much younger reading audience. I was attracted by the dragons because I've enjoyed other writer's stories that included dragons. Since I bought several of the series, I will read them, but they won't be the kind of books that a few years later I'd read again.

Meant to be starter novel on the series. Shortness of novel is most likely good for the intended audience but is way to short for most readers. Shortness gives reader impression rest of series might be just as short, and thus limited to a "single situation sitcom" type format....and next week we will go to gildur.

I really did not care for this book, it felt contrived, it was long winded,it just seem to ramble from one point to another. I did good to finish this story. I received this product at discount or free

This is an intro novella to the world of Nath Dragon. Things begin simple enough, and only get worse. A great start to the series. Not meant for "serious" fantasy readers, but for a more lighthearted audience. Fun for younger readers.

I read the first chapter and part of the second and felt like I'd wandered into a 5th grade classroom. The sentences are short and choppy, there's way too much punctuation and the action is totally unbelievable. How can the hero (and I use that term very, very loosely) know... "my wound was fatal..." and yet keep going without stopping for... "mile after mile..."? He repeatedly states that... "I was a dragon, after all... in a very man-like sort of way." Yet he has a "...dragon heart pounding in my chest like a galloping horse mile after mile..." Shouldn't it be... "a horse galloping mile after mile...???" So the diction and syntax suck too. On top of that horses CAN'T gallop for mile after mile... walk or trot or a combination, a big fat yes. Canter, trot, canter for 10 to 15 miles (that's how the Pony Express did it). But gallop? They'd drop dead after about 12 minutes (around 5 miles).

I must admit that after reading the first chapter and part of the second one I gave up. I'm too old to go for a book that reads like it was written by a 10 year old. Don't get me wrong, I've read a lot of well-written young-adult fantasy and science fiction and enjoyed it. This book simply isn't well enough written to even begin to hold my interest or attention.

The inconsistencies just in the first chapter were legion, among others 'Nath Dragon' describes himself as wearing armor and then he's pulling crossbow bolts '...from my flesh...' without removing the armor.

Sigh... I wanted to like this book, the premise was promising but I'm damned glad I got it for free because it wasn't even worth the five minutes I spent reading the first two chapters (or the time I spent writing this review)... I don't know, perhaps a 5th grader would enjoy it. I didn't.

I could not get past the bad grammer. Writer needs better editors. Small Ie: the use of adverbs (words that end in ly-) take away from his (her) action scenes. I AGREE ADVERBS HAVE THEIR PLACE... as descriptors; colors and whatnot. Comma splices abound. At least join a group like the SF chronicals... A good editor is what you need young Obe-wan.

I really like dragon stories and have read a lot of them. I only finished reading this one because I was really bored at the time and didn't have anything better to read. The main character's primary problem is himself--he seems to recognize this, but hasn't really come to terms with it. The motif is that of a son who needs to become more like his father to fulfill his destiny but refuses to accept the advice of those who try to help him. We have someone who refuses good advice, does rash and unwise things, and then wonders why the results are unfavorable. Seriously, by the time someone (even a dragon) is a couple hundred years old, they should have more maturity.

It didn't have the smooth flow or polish of a finished novel and the main problem that the main character encounters (other than his own faults) doesn't arise until the end of the story. When I finished, I felt like I'd read the prologue or first chapter in a novel, rather than book one of a series. As a first chapter, I'd give the author a chance and start reading the second chapter. As is, I have no interest in reading the next book.

This is the first book that has actually driven me to write a bad review. Writing from the first person perspective although it may feel natural as an author you need to remember to show, not tell.
As an example take the following statement which I would like to make to the author.
"As a fan of fantasy coming of age stories I must say your book was a disappointment. I barely made it through two chapters of your book before I had to delete it from my kindle. "
After reading that statement you have completely discounted this review as uneducated criticism because I give you a general statement that does not provide a clear context. This is the problem that ruins the book, the author does not describe the main character through actions or environment so much as relying on direct statements in the first person. It comes across as disjointed and completely throws you out of the story. Honestly how many of us walk around saying things like "I feel" or "I walked" to ourselves??

NOT a bad start to a series. It ended rather quickly - making you look for more. Very predictible good person does something wrong and is cursed. If the follow on works were less than .99 cents and less I might be tempted. quick read.

You might want to read your children this book to teach them about responsibilities, growing up, and trying to do the right thing. But would it be enjoyable for an adult? NO. It's just too simple, light, and stereotypical that you might fall asleep reading this.

Reason why I stopped reading. There are orcs. Come on, have an imagination, rather than just borrow things from LOR. The protagonist actually says "Egad". The cross bow bolts have a sound. It's "something dat", I think. Honestly, these are not good omens. My life is too short.

I wanted to like this book. I really, really did. But, unfortunately, it just was not to be. The writing was stilted and uninteresting, the characters flat and cliched, and the plot a mish-mash of overdone tropes. Also, there are a number of typos and formatting errors throughout.
On the plus side, I liked the idea of a sword that has powers but doesn't reliably let them be used.

There is a reason why this book is free. While it does show some promise, some originality, it's not as well written as it should be. Also, It's sort of confusing as well and I could definitely see younger readers becoming lost as well. Another flaw is that it's a bit too short, I think adding a few more pages to flesh out the story and the characters would have done the book some justice as well.

Overall, I think some potential is there for a decent fantasy book but the writing really needs to improve because it really hurt this book in my opinion.

What you would expect from a free first book.
Very short and fast. Action packed, but have no idea where they are going.
Things are "slow" for dragons and patience is a virtue, but this was a jumpy clunky read.
Zipping from one scene to the next while skipping travel and large amounts of time.

Only a few characters are truly introduced and you have no idea what the immediate struggle or plot is about.
