This book is beautifully illustrated and the recipes require just a few and normally basic ingredients which is a huge + in my book! I've already tried making a few of the recipes and they have been delicious so far. I love the creative cold salad options. Definitely perfect to make and bring to a summer picnic!

My husband cooked a dinner party for 7 with recipes from this cookbook last weekend. Not only was everything delicious, our guests spent much of the early evening paging through the book because it is so beautiful. I ended up buying copies for them as gifts. These recipes are an easy way to eat healthy and make everything look fantastic on the plate.

The BEST cookbook ever! brought my copy to the office and people went on line to order it for themselves (6 copies)!! I bought this for a friends b-day who loves to cook and she was thrilled!
my 13 yr old daughter and her friend love to pick a recipe out and make it - that easy and so delicious!

I don't even know what to say. This book is a masterpiece. Her photographs a visual dessert. The recipes are amazing, unique and truly simple! I was so excited to see that she produced this right out the Bay Area where I live. Seeing her pick berries in Pescadero brought back many childhood memories for me there. Erin Gleeson is living my dream right now. It's so great to see my daydreams in reality.

This cookbook is a great find. I'm not a vegetarian but would love to eat a little healthier. The pictures are beautiful and the recipes look pretty easy.
I haven't made any yet but you can tell they will be delicious.

This book makes me want to be a healthier person. It really is so pretty to look at. I don't think i will ever be able to persuade all the people in my household to try every recipe but they all sound wonderful!

The Forest Feast is the new essential cookbook for all kitchens. You will need two copies, one for cooking and the other for your coffee table. Erin's recipes are delicious, simple and beautiful. I never knew my cooking could taste so good and be a work of art. Thank you Erin!!

Great vegetarian recipes plus beautiful illustrations and easy to follow steps. The dishes come off elegant and yummy and impressive for guests. I use this cookbook A LOT. I am not vegan but so what?!

Mom loved it as a gift. We have made a few things from it. We have not made a lot from the book yet but will make things with friends. My friend got a copy of it after looking at the site and the photos online. Xxoo amazing job.

I chose this book because of a recent trip to Woodside,CA, whilst visiting our son from the UK .
The illustrations are very appealing and made a nice reminder of our visit for me.
There are new healthy and unusual recipes to try out for either home cooking or entertaining.
I think this book can make a very nice present for both vegetarian and non vegetarian friends or family.

I was a bit let down after looking through each recipe, because the flavor of each recipe seems to rely heavily on cheese or yogurt. The recipes are simple, with few ingredients, and that makes sub'ing out the cheese even harder. When you have only 4 ingredients, and one is some sort of flavorful cheese, you are going to lose the essence of the recipe by omitting it.

This book does not purport to be vegan or dairy free, but there are minimal options for those who choose to minimize their dairy intake because of dietary preferences or restrictions

I'm not vegan, but tend that direction, and choose to let cheese be a treat, or a delicacy instead of a daily staple. That said, I enjoy the flavors, but this book ends up being pretty impractical for me. It will be disappointing for anyone with similar diet preferences.

Despite that, there are still some lovely recipes, the book itself is charming, and I've decided to keep it on my shelves.

Just loved this new cookbook!!! Very innovative recipes that are easy to make and look and taste fabulous. Tried a bunch and can't wait to try more! Favorites so far are the butternut pear soup, apricot bites, curried crispy carrots, avocado egg-in-a-hole and honey-pepper fresh figs! This cookbook is a "keeper".

I ALWAYS HAVE TROUBLE WITH COOKING BOOK.
MOST OF THEM MAKE ME CONFUSE BY FAMILIAR RECIPES THAT I FEEL LIKE I CAN DO IT EASILY ,
BUT THE TRUTH IS WHAT I MAKE ARE SOMEHOW DIFFERENT WITH THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS IN THE BOOK.
UNTIL NOW, ONLY FOREST FEAST SAVE ME FROM THAT GUILTY FEELING IN THE COOKING FIELD.
THE REASON I CHOSE THE BOOK IS BECAUSE I WAS IMPRESSED BY ITS NAME.
BUT WHEN I FOLLOWED SOME RECIPES IN THE BOOK, I WAS SUPRISED BY THE FLAVOUR AND HOW EASILY I CAN MAKE THOSE BEAUTIFUL DISHES.
AND EVEN IM NOT A VEGETERIAN, I COULD COMPLETELY ENJOY THE FLAVOUR OF THE DISHES AND PRAISES OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND MY FRIENDS.

The main reason I love this book is because the water color paintings and photos are gorgeous. It's fun to look through, but I'm not overly impressed with the recipes. I appreciate that the recipes are simple, but I almost feel like some of them are so obvious that they don't even need to be written down.

Not so much in the way of recipes without cheese, but if you're into that kind of thing that won't really be an issue.

Thoughts on cheese aside, the illustrations are charming, everything is mega-twee, but also super simple and not overly time consuming.

Some of the previous reviews are a little silly. Who cares whether or not the author's home is a real cabin and that she has a grocery store nearby?! It's not a How to survive on twigs and berries in the wilderness book!

This book is a whimsical mix of quality ingredients and their natural loveliness and great taste! It's the simplistic art of eating good food that's grown in nature. I love it.

This is a great coffee table book! It's appealing to the eye and full of great simple recipes. A few of the ingredients she used are hard to come by in the Midwest at certain times of the year, but I'm sure I can find substitutions. It definitely has some great entertaining recipes that would take no time at all. I love the lemon basil mojitos! Flavored ice cubes are a brilliant touch!

This is a beautiful book with gorgeous photos and the recipes look delicious. This is the kind of book you could definitely give as a gift or display on a coffee table.

I took off a star, though, because actually using the recipes was a little difficult for me...not that they are complicated, just that the way they are printed is very non-linear. For example, the steps for the recipes are not numbered "1....2...3..." and to find the ingredients, you have to read the whole recipe...there is no separate ingredients list at the top of the recipe. There are also a lot of different fonts going on in each recipe (sometimes cursive, sometimes not, sometimes bold, sometimes black, sometimes white, sometimes typed, sometimes "handwritten"), and the steps are sometimes in the middle of the page, and then the final step will be off to the side or at the very very bottom and easy to miss. I find myself often accidentally skipping steps or forgetting to get ingredients because I didn't see it in the recipe. The book is also a hardcover and does not stay open at all, even with a recipe book stand...will definitely need something to weigh the pages down or will have to break the binding.

One more thing, one of the recipes seemed wrong to me...for the parmesan poppers, the only ingredients listed for the dough were egg whites and parmesan. The recipe said to beat the egg whites 'til they were stiff, and then add the parmesan...wouldn't that just make, like, meringue with parmesan shreds mixed in? How is that a dough? And based on that, the rest of the steps in the recipe wouldn't work...it said to roll the dough into balls...not sure how I would do that with a gloppy meringue.

All that being said, it really is a beautiful book, but I can see myself re-typing the recipes I'm planning on making so that I have an easier time actually using them.

The recipes in this book are so unusual, intriguing, and beautifully-photographed, I want to try them all. I'm not the biggest fan of vegetables, to be honest, but the combinations of flavors and colors are so unusual and beautiful to look at, that even I can't get enough. Dozens of my friends have this book, and between us, we've made most of the recipes in the book and shared them at parties, and almost all of them are wonderful. The ingredients are mostly every day fruits and vegetables, and easily sourced, but they're combined with an artist's eye for color and composition, and the flavors combinations are inspired. I needed something to get me interested in cooking vegetables, and this was it.

I am so head over heals in love with the original cookbook, "the forest feast," that my hubby asked me to rush order her new release, "the forest feast for kids." We had the Asparagus Tart yesterday, and it was delicious!!! Huge family hit!

...beautiful, delicious, simple, and inspiring nourishment! Photo taken from my beloved and magical backyard forest in coastal SC

I discovered this cookbook at another store and immediately purchased it; and rushed to the store to purchase her new cookbook for kids!

My sister bought this for me for my birthday because i had expressed interest in learning more vegetarian dishes. I fell in love with this book in the first few appetizer pages. the recipes were so simple and fresh. Every single dish has a beautiful full page photo of the finished product and the recipes are done in a very simple format, it would be great to use with your kids as well. I also liked the variety, there were fried, baked, and cold dishes all looked so appetizing, and there were a lot of dishes that i'd never had or heard of like accordion zucchini or kale caesar with polenta croutons. I love the jar dressings as well.. some only have 4 ingredients and you just shake it in a jar. Oh and the cocktails looked amazing.
My one criticism, and this may be because I'm not a vegetarian, is that the main dishes still looked like sides to me lol.
Don't let a couple of bad reviews keep you from buying this whimsical cookbook for yourself or as a gift.

Gleeson's The Forest Feast is a beautiful book. The recipes are simple and clearly written and accompanied by lovely photographs of the finished food. I might not try all the recipes, but I certainly will try many of them!

I LOVE this cookbook. My husband asked me, "Why would you buy a cookbook when you can just get recipes online?" I handed him the book, he opened it up, looked inside, and said, "Ohhhhhhh!"

Each page in this book is a treasure. The author/artist has done a wonderful job of elegantly arranging the food, ingredients, and other fun related elements in such a stylish way. The recipes are all so easy to follow - even my husband can cook from this book! The book also provides an easy way to work more simple and delicious vegetarian food into our diet. I have already bought an additional three copies for friends and relatives! BUY THIS BOOK! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

This is a great book and it only has vegetarian recipes using wild edibles and I have really enjoyed combing through it. I will be putting these recipes to the test come spring when all the first wild edibles really spring out, this fall I have used a few of the recipes already and I have more plans. If you like to cook and you what to learn how to add herbs that may be bland, this book is a good tool to help with just that very thing.

This is a fabulous cookbook. The recipes are very simple and made from fresh ingredients. We grow many of the ingredients in our garden so it had given us great suggestions for how to use them. My two daughters have loved everything we made and the photos inspire me to make the food look beautiful and appetizing. Our whole family has lost a few pounds and developed new tastes because of these delectable recipes. Some of our favorites are the butternut squash pear soup, dried apricots with goat cheese, dried cranberry and thyme, the cauliflower steaks and the eggplant salad. I grow way more squash than we can eat and the zucchinis that are baked with all the thin slices are fabulous and we have played around with stuffing the slices with many different combinations. All my friends who I have cooked for out of this book have gone out and purchased it too!

I am pretty critical of cookbooks but boy do I love this one for so many reasons.

First of all - it is beautiful! Every page is so beautiful and full of color. The recipes are tasty and interesting (i.e., French radishes - who knew radishes with butter and a dash of salt would be so good. they are flavorful and easy!

If you are a vegetarian, someone who likes to experiment with vegetarian dishes or just looking for an easy cookbook with flavorful promise, I definitely recommend. It is also a great coffee table book! I have had guests over who will pick it up on my coffee table just because it's so beautiful.

This is one of the best recipe books I have ever gotten and the simplest to make and very, very delicious dishes. My husband who is a meat eater has found the recipes to be very good also and it has encouraged him to re-thinking that vegetarian eating isn't so bad after all. We have also noticed how our weights have gone down a bit and that both our appetites and palettes have been satisfied. This is worth every penny, you won't regret the purchase. Oh, and there are beautiful photographs for every recipe showing you the ingredients which are so few but Wow! the dishes come out very well, you won't believe how simple they all are!

It's legit the most gorgeous cookbook I've ever seen. I found my copy at TJ Maxx Homegoods, then ordered three more from the store: one for a housewarming present, one for a friend's birthday, and one as part of my mom's belated Mother's Day gift. It's not just for vegetarians because any of the recipes could be a side dish for meat eaters. I cannot wait for Erin Gleeson's next cookbook to come out in September!

I just bought a copy at Barnes & Noble and it is visually beautiful, clear and inviting to try some of the wonderful recipes... awesome!

Just a thought... if you ever publish another cookbook or reprint this one... I think it would be advantageous to put a spiral binding on it or some other printer's suggestion so that while you are using it, it lays flat.

Good luck with this ... and hope there will be more in the future.

Wow!!! What more can I say about this amazing cookbook? This book was given to me as a Christmas gift from a friend, and I couldn't be happier. As a forewarning, I am a big meat eater. I eat meat at every single meal, and I could never live without eating meat. However, I *love* vegetables as well, and try to eat a very healthy, balanced diet. For me, this book was incredible because it allowed me to use vegetables in a different way, and to make various side-dishes nightly with little to no effort. The best part is that when guests come over & you cook from this book, they are always impressed and think that you put in a ton of effort ... little do they know that 90% of the recipes are so so simple!

With all that said, this is my go-to cookbook now when I'm looking for a fun, fast, yummy veggie recipe. Even the desserts and cocktails are incredible too! Some of my favorite recipes are:

Carrot & Zucchini Ribbon Pasta, Garlic Stuffed Zucchini, Chocolate Ricotta Mouse Cups, Baked Brie (omg), Eggplant Gnochi, Asparagus Tart, and many many more. So happy I was given this book :)

Beautiful book, beautiful pictures, and easy recipes. I bought the book based on the cover, and discovered the author's blog later. Although most of the recipes (with the same pictures) can be found on the blog, I like having them compiled in the book.

I initially thought that I'd never make any of the recipes in this book when I first saw it in Anthropologie; the recipes seemed too precious and unlike anything I'd ever eat. This was the only thing that stopped me from dropping the$25 for it on the spot, because it is an absolutely beautiful book. Erin Gleeson's art and photography are stylish and lovely, so much so that every time I've seen it since, I was tempted to buy it all over again.

So I finally checked it out from the library as an ebook, and now I find that the recipes are, in many cases, absolutely something I'd make. I opened up my kindle while I was in the grocery last night to make sure I got everything I needed to make the asparagus tart.

I'll print several recipes for my own homemade cookbooks, and buy the hardcover as well.

The book is absolutely beautiful; however, I was hoping to purchase a book that focuses on food and not photography. The recipes are not very thoughtful, one that comes to mind is the roasted califlower with melted cheese. I wish there were more to the recipe, but that is pretty much it, oh, besides the olive oil, garlic, and salt. I am definitely going to pass on this one.

My family LOVES this new cookbook. My 9 year old grabbed it and attached post its flagging everything he wants to try -- he nearly used the entire pad of post-its! We have enjoyed everything we've made and look forward to trying more! I especially love that most of the recipes are simple enough for me to make with my two young children with ingredients that I have on hand! Thank you, Erin.

I'm not a vegetarian, although I do occasionally cook vegetarian meals. I became intrigued with this book seeing it on a book store shelf while vacationing on the Mendocino coast a couple of months ago. The combination of awesome pictures, healthful food, and simple recipes made it a must buy. I'm now using it all the time and get raves on the meals I fix from it. It's absolutely changed my way of cooking!

Love this cookbook! It was given to my boyfriend as a gift from one of his clients, and it is beautiful! We've tried a few of the recipes so far, but they ALL look delicious! I've added the kale ceasar salad and the garlic knots to my Thanksgiving menu this year!

Bought this book to go in a house warming gift basket along with wine. I know a lot of people don't use cookbooks anymore but this one is perfect. The photos make you want to make the items. It's fun and I can't wait to give it as a gift.

When I first saw the photos in this book, I knew I had to buy it. I got it for a Mother's Day gift and it's easily become one of our favorite cookbooks and a favorite coffee table book. The photography is incredible and the aesthetics of the book from the fonts to the colors and layout are perfect. The recipes are simple, delicious, and far from ordinary.

What a beautiful recipe book! The photos and illustrations draw you in, while the ease of creating the unique yet simple recipes make this a book that you will definitely use. A unique piece of art that is too beautiful to sit in the cabinet with all of my other cookbooks.

I'm absolutely in love with this cookbook! The recipes are tasty and use incredible combinations and flavor profiles, and the beautiful before and after photos really help you get a sense of what the tasty creations could look like. I plan on using this book for many years to come and I am proudly displaying on my coffee-table for all of my guests to peruse and get as much enjoyment out of it as I already have. Awesome!!!

This is a pretty book. So beautiful. A good coffee table decoration. Buy it may just be the worst cookbook I have ever seen. These "recipes" are little more than veggie scraps left over in your fridge + olive oil + salt and pepper. Good job on the art. But anyone with a little imagination could come up with these food combinations.

The recipes are unconventionally arranged on a page with multiple photos--like honey, mint, or red pepper flakes in prep bowls--and handwritten notes with arrows point to the ingredients. Often a recipe is part printed font, part handwritten. Between the font, the handwriting, and the arrows, people may find it hard to cook from this book, especially if they are in a hurry. The book's style is cute for awhile, then it becomes annoying.

Some promo for this book is overstated, to say the least. That "cabin in the woods" is a multi-deck house with a hot tub and million-dollar views, in Woodside, Ca, one of the wealthiest suburbs in the U.S. There's a major shopping mall across the freeway from town. If you're OK about this fantasy of forest life, it's your money. At least be aware of what you're buying. For myself, I'll pass on this one. (Note: some info in my review came from an article in the SF Chronicle 4/18/14. )
