Just to be clear from the beginning, I was one of the lucky few to receive this book before the release date and give a review if I wanted. Which I oh so do :)

This was an amazing book! I am the kind of person who loves to read a book where the world is painted for them, which Storm Glass did not disappoint. There are two main characters Sera and Cettie and the point of view switches between the two throughout the book. I loved both of these girls, they have such detailed personalities that when the story switches point of view you are tempted to rush ahead to switch back but then you remember you loved the other story as well and become engulfed in that point of view. lol I don't like to give away too much of a story when giving a review since that is all the fun in reading it yourself but what hooked me into this story was all the magical crazy mysterious things that goes on and sitting there wanting to know more about how everything works. But this story had me hungry and wanting more by the end, and I can not wait for the next book! I will definitely be buying this series on audiobook for my commutes to work and school. :)

I received an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Jeff wheeler knocks it out of the park again with this new series. The worlds, the characters, and his writing really hit the mark. I’ve been a huge fan of his writing since the Muriwood series and this does not disappoint. I love his ability to tell a story without sex and straight up bloody violence.

I look forward to reading the next installments of this book and I’m looking forward to starting this book again through audible (narrated by my most favorite Kate Rudd). I get so invested in these characters and I really feel like I am apart of their story.

I highly recommend this book and any other by Jeff Wheeler.

I have mixed feelings when I finish a book I enjoy so much. Glad there are more to come. Loved the "Oliver Twist"/ Dicken's feeling in the beginning! Also liked the floating land masses where the wealthy live "above" the poor. Brought out how focusing on power and wealth can ruin people as well as how there are both good and bad in all economic stations. Despite my protests, the book had a satisfying ending with fun, adventure and even some scary bits in between.

When I started reading this, I was unaware that he was the author of two other beloved series. I only found out at the end. So far, this series is every bit as good as his other works. I almost didn't write a review because I can't wait to devour the next one, but I'm grateful that he writes and am eager to share his brilliant storytelling with other like-minded readers. A word of caution- don't start this unless you have time to finish it.

Where to start about this book is the question. It was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it. I've been in a reading funk lately and this has been a great book to end that. For starters, I love how realistic these characters are. I felt like I could understand each of them well and that the development was perfect and worked well for the ages of the characters. I know that some of the thought processes Cettie, Anna, and Sera had aren't as developed as adults like some authors can mess up. They were a great reflection of their ages. I got a little mad towards the end of the book, but it resolved well. I'm super excited about the next book and two of the characters that meet as I can tell some mischief and friendship will arise. I'm looking forward to another fantastic read and learning more about the world that Jeff Wheeler has created.

I’ve read most of Wheeler’s series and come to love his style and characters. I always look forward to seeing how he will relate or connect elements of the worlds he creates with his previous stories. This new series has a Regency England feel that is distinctly different from the more medieval settings of other novels. Like those other novels, however, I found myself immediately caught up and invested in the main characters. The author’s note hints at several volumes to follow this one, and I can’t wait to see how Cettie and Sera fulfill their potential. The next book can’t come fast enough!

Let me start by saying that I wasn’t expecting much. I had picked a book at random while looking for something to listen to at work- and wow. I was absolutely blown away by this book. The world is so interesting and unique, that I blew through all 11 hours of audio in two days.

I normally enjoy a good fantasy novel, but found myself getting frustrated and bored with the same stories being regurgitated over and over by different authors. This was such a delight.

The characters are unique, interesting, and complex. Even the characters I hated, I could at least understand their motives. There were no bad guys just for the sake of conflict for the plot. It was a genuinely wonderful book and I’m going to recommend it to every single one of my friends.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series, and I’m confident that I’ll devour it just like this one.

Jeff continues turning out great first novels that inevitably lead into an outstanding series. If I was going to be nitpicky about minor issues It would be that Storm Glass was a bit slow and talky occasionally. Fortunately it had the perfect ending and set up for book 2 in the series, which I'm going to purchase as soon as I finish this review.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series! This book is set in a Dickens-type era mixed with a little bit of magic. Mr. Wheeler’s excellent descriptions makes it easy to see this world in your mind’s eye, and his character development of the 2 main characters is equally excellent. The characters are very relatable and the pace is fast enough to keep your interest for the entire book. Best of all, this is a clean read that can be read by anyone from about age 10 up.

Another great story by Jeff Wheeler! I have read several of his books and have enjoyed them all. This story revolves around two girls, Cettie, a young girl from the tenements, and Sera, a girl born into an affluent family. Lots of intrigue and a great story line. Also part of a multibook series. Looking forward to the next book!

Once again I’ve been sucked into a new world by Jeff Wheeler. The only problem with the Harbinger series is I now have to wait on the release of the second book. And is usual, Jeff leaves you ready to devour more words immediately. But this new world is as intriguing as all his others. I can’t wait for book 2.

While there are some references to other Wheeler series, this new book stands on its own and was an intriguing start. I am a fan of this author and look forward to book two. You will find yourself rooting for the young characters while hoping for the downfall of the adults who try to manipulate them.

The story was easy to follow, both main characters were likeable (although I found Cetie's storyline more interesting), and the climax at the end was very exciting.
Overall I found the book well worth reading and look forward to the next in the series. However, I found myself wanting to skip sections in the middle of the book because I found the story lines to drag.
I really liked how the series links with other series from Mr Wheeler.

Ghosts, flying ships, floating cities, and a land riddled with political wrangling, corruption, and poverty: this is a well-built, clean, fascinating fantasy story with elements of magic, eighteenth century class struggles, and a riveting mystery to unravel, this book was so much more enjoyable than I expected. Two thumbs up!

I have yet to read a Jeff wheeler book I didn't love. I could feel similarities to Muirwood but still this was its own book. I was thrilled to confirm at the end it is several hundred years later. I adore Cettie. I hope book two shows me more if Sera that is not so whiney. I want to like her too.

I absolutely LOVE Wheeler's writing style and was eagerly waiting for this series. It did not disappoint. My only critique is that the big climax was slightly .... not so big. That is why I gave it 4 stars. However, it being book one, I understand he can't give us too much. August cannot get here quick enough!

The best fantasy has strong world building and consistent use of magic. While the main characters, and through them, the reader, are still just on the edge of any understanding of the magic-like Mysteries, it is clear we will be learning much more in the books to come. The major and minor characters are compelling and interesting and I look forward to getting to learn more about them all in the upcoming books.

i started thie first book in this trilogy. I could not put it down.

i felt anxiety, fear , wonder, delight, though sporadic because of Mrs. P's ferocious power.

Just what the author wanted us to feel.

The description of the fells did remind me hitorically of medevil London.

I am flumoxed that I have wait for the next two books to carry forward Seri and Cetti's future in Muirwood Abbey. A place I have alreaxy visited. It will be a joy to return.

Hurry plz Jeff!@@

I like how Jeff brings old and blends it with new. Ships that fly from mystery and the invention of a barometer? The little girl that comes from rags to riches... I loved Cettie's character. I also found myself wondering over and over... how are Cettie and Sera going to meet? I never would have expected it to be there... Jeff's talent for bringing in other places and people from his other stories is wonderful!
Thanks for the adventures!!!

After reading Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy I looked for a new author and was intrigued by the Harbinger book covers. The story, characters and the author's underlying philosophy all mesh together to create such a compelling story that i couldn't put it down. the only negative is that the world has to wait until November to get book 3.

I enjoy all of Jeff Wheeler's books! I'm so glad I found his writing through Kindle Unlimited. I love the moral thread that plays through each story and enjoy the complex and interesting plots. Storm Glass is no exception - it grabbed me from the beginning and I can't wait until the next books come out. I'm so disappointed I have to wait until August to read the next one. Please keep writing Mr. Wheeler! I find your stories both riveting and uplifting.

This book is a coming-of-age story. Cettie of the Fells is haunted by ghosts and seeks to find her true family. She has been sold by her parents, deeded, into abhorrent living conditions.
This is the story of her rescue and the finding of strength to go on.
I would recommend this book to anybody of any age!

Jeff Wheeler sets his latest series two centuries after his Muirwood tales (which I bought after reading this one) to give it a Regency England feel. The poor live in cramped cities mostly paying off their deeds of debt. The rich live on floating palaces – but bad investment can send the palace hurtling to the ground. Two preteens who will eventually become close friends are at the heart. Cettie Pratt starts off in an orphanage where the Landlady doesn’t feed them, forcing them to go out to steel food. Luckily she finds her Daddy Warbucks in a retired vice-admiral Fitzroy who is a potential candidate for Prime Minister. Sera Fitzempress is the only daughter of the Prince Regent. His selection after the Emperor has a stroke, leads to a break between the Prince and his wife, with Sara caught between the. Fitzroy’s mines produce valuable silver and worthless quick silver until Cettie notices the relationship between the movement of quick silver and storms and Fitzroy realizes that this Storm Glass (paper from 47North) is something the empire needs. I’m eagerly waiting book 2.

I’ve read all of Jeff Wheelers books and have enjoyed them all. This story beginning however has me most captivated so far. The serious strain of heavy topics is balanced with the emotional joy of the solid relationships. I very much appreciate touching on difficult topics helping us better evaluate our blessings. The solid world building and character development is amazing.

Once again, Jeff Wheeler has created a rich, compelling world in which I'd love to spend some time. I'm usually not seduced by world building but the the world surrounding Cettie is a nice blend of the future, the past with an intriguing dollop of steampunk and, strangely enough, atmosphere worthy of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Cettie is a close to desperate orphan who's self-reliant almost to a fault. She also has a charm that silently recruits the help of the mighty and some of the lowly...the ones who have exactly what Cettie needs right when she needs it.

For those who enjoy a good ghost story you're in luck even though Wheeler taunts readers too long with this plot element. to make up for the lagging ghosts he teases us with various mystery schools which Cettie and her young friends are learning about where nature comes alive as the kids learn to harnest it. Though will it be in time to rescue their world?

Thank you to the publisher for providing an ecopy.

What the hell did I just waste my time reading?

Not good. Boring. Uninteresting two dimensional world. Terribly described. Goes nowhere. The main antagonist is the head butler/maid lady? Really? How ambitious.

From the point of view of two 12 year old girls who act neither 12 nor ANY different. They aren't distinct characters just the same generic "precocious smart brave" girl archetypes thrust into different situations.

There isn't a single 3 dimensional "real" character in the whole story. It just feels very amateurish

The author makes you fall in love with the protagonist, Cettie, nearly instantly. The character development of the other characters is equally satisfying. Even for characters that could have easily become static such as Fitzroy and Ms. Pullman. They are all multi-faceted relatable humans. The writing is innocent and easy to read without being condescending or preachy. The story took me instantly into the world. I could see and hear characters with ease. Picturing the landscapes was effortless. I am thouroughly engrossed. I can't wait to read book two.

Cettie of the Fells stole my heart. Reading this story I felt for her as I went on this journey. I have already been recommending this book to my friends. If you are interested on a new fantasy world and new type of story I recommend this book to you. I can't wait for the next one. How much detail Jeff put into this world, it feels like you could just move into your own mansion in the clouds. Also you may want to order your own Storm Glass so you can watch the changes in the weather too.

The change is totally different than Jeff's previous novels. This novel reminds me of the Hunger Games, very little imagination and creative scenes

Cettie Pratt is an orphan living in the Fells, an area of starving, debt-enslaved, deed-contracted, ground-bound poor. Sera Fitzempress is royalty, living aloft in a luxurious castle floating in the air, in line for the throne; surrounded by luxury, she has never been allowed to leave her parents’ estate. The rich live aloft in floating manors that rise and fall according to the fortunes of their owners. The poor live below, ground down under the harsh conditions and work that support the nobles floating overhead.

Everyone’s fortunes rise and fall as Cettie is taken in by a compassionate noble who wants to adopt her. Sera dreams of helping change society and demolishing the rigid codes that oppress the lower classes. Her father sees her as a rival for the throne, many nobles have no desire to change the status quo, and there are evil forces at work.

Cettie is drawn to the Mysteries, even as Sera is drawn by her story. Can either girl break free of their assigned place in society and change the world around them?

Storm Glass is reminiscent of a steampunk novel, but rather than mechanisms, there are magic stones, mysteries, and maritime vessels flung aloft. The world-building is wonderfully colorful and real, the characterizations are deep and complex, and the magical system of mysteries is, well, mysterious.

Absolutely great story that I thoroughly enjoyed, just wish I didn’t have to wait for the next book. Storm Glass is a fun, enchanting read with a lot of deep thoughts. Highly recommended.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) through NetGalley. My opinions are my own.
