Seriously poorly written, trite story. Did the author pay for reviews? That's the only thing I can think of. I couldn't even finish it. Supposedly H betrayed h but in the first chapter he rushes to her childhood home and aggressively kisses her and forces her to lay on a bed. This happens four pages in... What?

A great second chance romance! Taylor & Cole have been friends since childhood. This story is how one sacrificed so the other's dream could flourish. It is also about unselfishness, love, and fighting for a dream. Although they meet again due to a funeral and suffer some pain and uncertainty, do they reach their HEA? ?

I know Ms Laurent delivers and this time does she ever! Taylor and Cole, soulmates by any stretch of the imagination. So why did she leave once, and then again? Read this one, you will mist up a little, a hazard of reading one of Ms Laurent's books, enjoy it. I volunteered to read and review an Advance Reader Copy.

Childhood friends and sweethearts. Amazing story about two people that found love young but due to outside interference it was taken from them. The book jumps back and forth from the present to their childhood, to show how involved they were in each other's lives. This is a wonderful story of second chances for two people whose love for each other had never lessened. Great book.

Such a good book. Cole and Taylor met when they were 6 and became best friends. As they got older, lovers. Day of the audition, Cole bailed on her, but Taylor still went and became famous. Could have been a really good read. More development of the characters would have been nice. Way too much sex, I skimmed, there could have been somme real meaningful "get to know you again" conversation. What happened to Victoria? No mention of Cole seeking her out and calling her on what she did? Really? What about dear old dad? Did he just accept their relationship, etc......oh, and she wrote a really good song.....what happened to that? Not well thought out at all, although the smut was quite good if one really wants to read all that. Put more thought into your writing.

River Laurent's books never fail to hit the mark. This one follows the second chance given to former best friends Taylor and Cole. The book is told through present day and flashbacks, with the flashbacks providing key background to the story. I love the blurb and the storyline but the book was choppy and didn't flow well. I never believed that Taylor and Cole were truly in love. After not seeing each other for eight years, the first thing Cole wants is to get in bed with Taylor. Other characters were introduced ONCE and then never again. The angst at the end is a woman, reader's have never heard of but it's enough to have Taylor running. The book needed more to get another star or more from me.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

Cole Finley and Taylor Rose first became friends when nine-year-old Cole climbed up into six-year-old Taylor's tree house to let her know it was okay to cry because her mother died. As best friends, they made a promise to always be there for the other and to never let go. Taylor's family was poor but happy and Cole grew up with wealth. None of this mattered to them as their friendship and love blossomed. They had hopes and dreams of becoming famous with the music they shared and played so beautifully together. Those dreams died one day as Cole turned his back on her in anger, telling her to go on by herself and become a star without him. What happened to Cole's love for her and their promise? A story that was so beautifully bittersweet took a major turn when Taylor came home for her stepmother's funeral. She has spent her adult life on the road touring with her band, becoming the star she thought she wanted to be. Something was always missing. A piece of her heart was left behind. When she and Cole see one another after all those years, it feels as if nothing has changed and they still share a deep love. As the truth unfolds, however, the cruelty of family is enough to break my heart. When the jealous, vindictive "friend" surfaces, I was ready to slap Cole myself! River had my emotions all over, back and forth, upside down. She did a wonderful job of creating intricately-woven characters with shared history, love, loyalty, doubt, anger and mended hearts. A River Laurent book is always a gem and The Promise shines ever so brightly!

I volunteered to read this Arc for an honest review. I really enjoyed the story of Taylor and Cole and the adventures that they go on throughout their lives as friends. Taylor is a young woman who happens to be a professional singer is forced to come home for her step mother's funeral. She hasn't been back for several years and cannot stand her. Unfortunately she did not expect to run in the cold, the boy who broke her heart 8 years ago. Cole is a young man who is desperate to see the love of his life, Taylor. Taylor's furious with Cole but when she looks in his eyes all bets are off. After spending a few magical days together where the cameras trees through the roof, and they're letting like it was the old days and the last 8 years haven't happened. Taylor gets two unexpected guest. The first is the pr boyfriend that her agent set her up with that she can't stand and Cole sent him on his way. The second is Veronica, who claims to be Cole's fiance and baby mommy. Cole disappointed Taylor on the day of their big audition for their big break, claiming that he decide that was not the right thing for him and left her there the audition alone. Crazy things keep coming in in their way and Taylor is fed up, claiming that she cannot trust him or his promises anymore. It's a great ride from beginning to the end of the book the characters flow well together and the chemistry is amazing. Great story to read definitely recommend it.

Taylor and Cole have been best friends since nearly forever and through a good mix of present day and flashbacks we learn what happened and why they went their separate ways. When Taylor’s step-mother passes away, Taylor is back in town for her funeral. Things get interesting when Cole shows up where she's staying, to say the least. Taylor and Cole have lots of steamy action together, but she has some hesitations based on broken promises from the past.

I love second chance romances, a good bit of drama and angst, and strong yet vulnerable characters. This story has all of that and more. It was an enjoyable read and I recommend it!

A wonderful book about cole and turner.
They grew up together and have so many memories of them together.
They started a romantic relationship but they are meant to go for a audition , cole on the guitar and turner singing but he says he doesnt want to and she goes by herself, they break up as he hurt her.

Years have gone past cole stayed where he has always lived but turner has a singing career and is famous.

A story about two people mending old hurts, falling in love again and learning to trust again.
I definitely recommend this book to read i couldnt put it down.

Taylor Rose may have come from humble beginnings but talent and timing propelled her to stardom quickly. It came with a price - betrayal and a broken heart.

As the story begins she has returned home to bury her last relative. She only planned staying a couple of days but that changed when Cole Finlay rang her doorbell.

That’s when life took a sharp turn and so many things changed. They were best friends, partners in music...and friends for life until that night, the night when everything changed. Could they find a second chance amid small town rivalry and unknown circumstances? Let’s hope so because you are going to like these two broken souls.

River Laurent never disappoints and The Promise is a a good example of her ability to tell a wonderfully touching story that will stay with the reader for a long time.

I received a reader copy in exchange for an honest review and upon finishing the story, I have no problem giving the author five stars for another great story...along with my appreciation for a job very well done!

Taylor and Cole has been friends since they were 6 years old. They met at her mother’s funeral, where Cole brought Taylor a daisy and they became friends. Through the years they were there for each other and gone through so much. They were each other’s first love but 8 years ago he let her down and Taylor left for LA. Now she’s back for her stepmother’s funeral and Cole is determined to win her back. After all neither one of them got over the other!

The promise delivered on its promise. I loved this book. It was an easy fast read. Cole and Taylor were more than best friends since Taylor was six years old they were soul mates who lost their way but found their way back home to each other. The idea of doing alternating chapters between the present and the past was risky but it paid off because it showed the in depth characteristics of the children Cole and Taylor were which explains the reasons behind who they are as adults. I loved everything about this book except the cover and that is the only reason that I didn’t give it five stars. The tattooed guy on the cover has nothing to do with who Cole is and it has no relationship to the story. I received this book as an ARC and I almost didn’t choose it because of the cover. I don’t like books about tattooed guys but I’m so glad that I chose this book. I will be reading more books by this author.

Taylor & Cole were best-friends and jig partners on their way to fame when he decided he didn't want fame and she pursued it without him. Now she's back in town for her step-mother's funeral and he wants to take things back to how they were before.
River Laurent got me into the plot wanting to know exactly what made them split up and hoping they'd stay together. The story is captivating with its many steamy scenes and different flashbacks.

Soooooo....I am super upset about this one. I purchased this book thinking it was an ebook called The Promise....and it was...for 20% of the book....THEN bam, it's a totally new story (The Kissing Booth) which I had previously purchased on it's own. I am now the proud owner of the same book twice...because essentially The Promise was a short story that left me wanting more while the more was a book I had already read.

I despise when authors do this for this very reason. I wanted a complete story, I wanted a book that was not a false promise. I will be very wary of this author's book in the future due to this. The Promise was ok, but short and deceiving. Not a huge fan!

This was an awesome second chance read by River Laurent. Taylor and Cole became best friends when they little kids after Taylor's mom died. Cole promised he would always be there for her. Growing up, they fell in love. But after Cole broke her heart, Taylor left town to become a star and never looked back. That was always Taylor's dream to be famous. Now a famous singer,Taylor has come back to town eight years later for her stepmother's funeral. Cole has never gotten over her and knows he never will. He is determined to win Taylor back. Can he convince her to take a chance? I highly recommend this book. 5 stars!!! This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.

The Promise

Great read. Lovely romance that lived up to the title of the book. The flashbacks to both the main characters childhood were a different style that lent itself well to aiding in the telling of the story. Sometimes life comes about with outsiders trying to chance of life path to our detriment. It is heartwarming to see a strong woman break free enough to shed the proper light on situations. Well written. Good characters.

Life happens and when they’re thrust together after being apart for almost 10 years it’s like high school al over again.

An absolutely fantastic and must read. This second chance book really gives you everything.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Taylor and Cole has been friends since they were 6 years old. They met at her mother’s funeral, where Cole brought Taylor a daisy and they became friends. They had hopes and dreams of becoming famous with the music they played together. Those dreams died one day as Cole turned his back on her in anger, telling her to go on by herself and become a star without him. Years later she comes back to her hometown for her stepmother's funeral. Will Taylor give Cole that second chance?

From the very beginning, you knew that Taylor and Cole were meant to be together forever, but how they get there, and the reason they broke up eight years ago is the real storyline. I liked the way that the author didn’t tell us until almost the end WHAT caused them to split up in the first place. This book also gave you an honest insight into the life of a celebrity, loneliness and rabid fans too!

Loved it!!!! Cole and Taylor share a special bond and make dreams and promises with each other for the future. When Cole is given an ultimatum though he turns his back on Taylor and their dreams. Taylor leaves town and Cole behind and doesn't return for 8 long years. Will they work things out?? Will the truth finally be reviled about why Cole changed his mind?? This is a great book you won't be disappointed if you get it. I volunteered to read an ARC of this book for my honest review.

I could not put it down once I started it and did not want it to end when I got there.
This is not your straight forward second chance romance. It is a book about true love, making mistakes and fighting for what you want.
Great character development, steamy sex scenes and twists and turns to really be able to sink into the book.

Taylor and Cole were friends since they could remember. When the chance for them both to live their dream of music arises it tears them apart. The death of Taylor's stepmother brings her back home and face to face with the !ASN who broke her heart. When long held secrets reveal themselves will Taylor and Cole seize the opportunity of a lifetime? I really like reading this book. It may be long but it is a fast read. Can't wait for more from this author.

This is a well written story about Taylor and Cole, who were childhood friends and sweethearts, until Cole broke her heart. She became a famous singer and was back in town for her stepmoms funeral. Cope knew she was In town and HAD to see her. These characters were amazing and there were unexpected twist and turns, abut a HEA none the less.

I received an ARC of this book and leaving a voluntary review review. This book was an example of true love because Cole sacrifices everything so that Taylor could achieve her dream even if it meant leaving him behind. Taylor was still letting her insecurities about not being good enough stand in the way of relationship with Cole. It was good someone showed her that it was more than just her side of the story.

River Laurent's books never fail to hit the mark. This one follows the second chance given to former best friends Taylor and Cole. The book is told through present day and flashbacks, with the flashbacks providing key background to the story. The chemistry between the two characters is great and seeing whether they could rebuild what once existed with the history they share had me turning the pages. I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

Cole and Taylor were lovers in the past, until she comes home for a funeral. Cole has to see her regardless of how it will affect him if he is rejected. These 2 people belong together, and it takes a lot of strength to come together again. Great story and loved the characters.

How far would you go to see the person you love succeed? Would you let them go even if it would destroy you? Cole gave all for Taylor because he loved her with his whole heart. In the end that love survives against all odds and the couple gets there happily ever after.

New author for me, book chosen accidentally. After I started reading, I realized it more explicit then I normally would have chosen. Almost, ALMOST, stopped reading, but kept going. Glad I did.
Interesting story, good look into what some/most performer's are subjected to. It's a lot of hard work, a lot of great fans, mixed with a bunch of idiot's and some that are just plain selfish, drunks and freaks, with a few among the totally crazy. I went to Live Performances, and was so disgusted with fellow audience members, because of the screaming, etc. You couldn't hear the performers!
Makes me totally THRILLED that I had/have absolutely no talent.
Except to appreciate other folks who actually do!!! Such as this writer. I may not be into the sexual portions of the story, but I liked the the rest. Certain actions were easy to anticipate, like in horror movies, you could see the monster would be showing up soon. Same here when an old enemy shows up, etc, etc.
Well it's part of what make this an excellent story. Author has good command of words, expressing deep or difficult emotions, enthralling her audience.
So like I stated earlier, author kept me enthralled with the characters, their lives and emotions, their faults, and drama. While others will gloss over all that, but be caught up in the sex.
Different strokes for different folks!!!

***I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.*** 4.5 stars. Taylor and Conley and second chances. I found myself feverishly flipping pages on my kindle app to see what came next and if these two would find away to move beyond the hurts of the past and grab on to a new future with the other half of their heart.
