I'm not sure how long Sarah Andersen has been spying on my teenage daughter in pursuit of ideas for new material, but I forgive her because this collection is pure gold.
And if you're still on the fence about purchasing "Adulthood is a Myth," I would share my daughter's observation that the cover is, in fact, "really fuzzy."

Sarah Anderson's book "Adulthood is a Myth" is AMAZING. So many of the strips resonate with the young adult audience who constantly find themselves in familiar situations, thus resulting in tears of laughter, and shouts of "OMG--THIS IS SO ME!" The drawing are perfectly and hilariously executed to depict everyday situations, annoyances, and embarrassments are hilariously sketched scenes. Although many of the comics in this book can be found individually on the web, there were still plenty of new, unseen ones as well. The only bad thing about this book is that it wasn't long enough-- I wanted to keep reading and laughing and crying tears of laughter for forever! Great book, and a perfect gift for anyone who can relate to the day to day life of young adults.

I bought this book for my Kindle Paperwhite after seeing it recommended on the sidebar of my the store page. (btw, the comics look great on the Paperwhite, so if you're on the fence about buying the digital copy of this you have nothing to worry about.)
I felt an immediate connection with this author - she was so relatable! I mean, any book with the title "Adulthood is a Myth" is going to attract a 25 yr old trying to make it on their own in the world. I was cracking up at almost every page or thinking "THAT'S SO TRUE" for each of the strips.
The author made me laugh at my confusion with "borderline adultness" and also calmed my nerves about the future just a little bit. "Ah," I thought, "so there's others out there who feel the same way. I'm not alone."
I've already ordered a physical copy to give to my friend for her birthday. I would recommend this to anyone between the ages of 18-35 because it will resonate.

I love the comics, I love the artist, I have a Sarah of my own. She loves that Sarah Andersen gets her, that her little introvert heart is laid bear in these gorgeous and captivating little scribbles. We'll buy whatever else Ms. Andersen puts out.

I love this cute book SO much! Each page I flipped in my head I was just like "ME....HHAAHHA ME...Where's the lie in this???...SAME" The cover of it has some cute fuzzy's that made the cover even more of a plus! The only bad thing about it is that once you start you can't stop!!! LOL so I finished the book in like 15 minutes right after it getting delivered. NEED MOAR. So it was like that same feeling you get when you finish watching an amazing show on Netflix and you're just left in that "what do I do with my life now???" stage. Sarah, please make another one of these amazing books just take all of my money idc ♡

I had this book on pre-order as a gift for my sister. We've been sending strips back and forth for months online. This collection is hilarious and really strikes a chord with anyone who stumbles through life with introvert tendencies. I devoured the whole book in 1 sitting in under an hour so I could read it before wrapping it, and now I think I will be purchasing it for myself as well. Sarah did a fantastic job here.

Sarah Andersen's cartoons are hilarious bite size truisms that I think a lot of people will find themselves saying "Oh god, that's me." to. While you can read the vast majority of these online, it's so nice to have a proper bound collection that you can share with friends when they come over or just pick up and browse through on your own without having to sit in front of a computer.

I absolutely love Sarah's Scribbles and it feels like everything she writes relates to my life. The book is high quality, the images are printed very well, and the only thing I could possibly ask for is MORE of her! I've already pre-ordered her next book and I can't wait. She is so talented and able to capture emotions in so few panels. Truly a gifted artist!

These comics get me-- especially that one about her shoving a whole bag of chips down the gullet in one sitting while simultaneously protesting in her mind with the familiar "your body is a temple" aphorism. I want to say her older self's lackadaisical ideas about religiously shaving were entirely foreign to me, but that would be fibbing.

This just came in the mail and I had to read the whole thing. I love and appreciate this comic. I can relate to her character in so many ways, and she's cute. I am so excited Sarah Andersen put this book together. <3

I was blown away by the fuzzy sweater cover! Sarah is a quirky and fun artist, and I really enjoy her perspective on life. Even as an extroverted person you can feel her opinions on life situations as your own. This is a great way to spend a half hour curled on the couch in your favorite comfy outfit :)

Sarah Andersen is amazing and genius, and this book reflects that. And don't even get me started on the amazingly fuzzy cover.
One thing you should note is that if you actively follow Sarah Andersen, you won't see too many new comics. Most of the book highlights her best comics, but the new ones thrown in there are definitely worth it.

This book is hysterical. I've been reading her comic strip daily via gocomics for quite some time so I couldn't wait for the book, and I'm in my 50's. Honestly, you will laugh your a** off. Sarah...get writing...I've finished this one. ?

I imagine a lot of people are at least vaguely familiar with Sarah’s Scribbles, a web comic that originated on Tumblr but later spread to other social media platforms. I don’t even read web comics all that often but I’ve seen a handful of these comic strips pop up on my feed occasionally and they’ve always made me smile. When I saw the collected work available at the library I figured I should really take the time to check them out and I’m so happy I did.
Sarah’s Scribbles is a comic strip that showcases the every day experiences of an awkward, introverted young millenial ill-equipped for adult life. Many of the comics are semi-autobiographical, featuring stories from the lives of the author and her friends. As an aging millennial myself I found many of the strips to be highly relatable and laughed quite a bit while reading.
The book is relatively short and can easily be read in one sitting. While the book advertises that there are a lot of exclusive comics in the collection, I was actually able to find almost all of them available online in some form completely free which kind of takes away from a value of a printed copy. On the plus side though, while I was looking online for the comics I noticed that many of the older strips included in the collection appear to have been updated with new art. I was actually pretty happy and impressed by this little bit of extra polish and I really appreciated it.
Sarah’s Scribbles is light-hearted, simple, and honest and that’s what makes it so delightful to read. There’s a little something in there for everyone and I think that the series can be appealing to many. I definitely recommend checking out the strip online and hope that more people can find as much joy as I have in this series.

First off, I want to thank Andrews McNeel publishing for this book. I've been entering their contests to win copies of their new release books for years now, but this is the first time I've won one. So, thanks! Good times.
The first thing I noticed about the cover of Adulthood Is A Myth is that parts of the cover are fuzzy, specifically everything that is red. As a very tactile person, I find this really neat! I did wonder why the bunny doesn't have fuzzy fur, though.... Also, my Mom was in the room when I opened the package, and she immediately commented that the book looked like fun. Usually, my Mom is a hard sell on graphic novel-ish reads, so I was impressed with how this book was able to peak her interest right out of the manila envelope,
As for me, I enjoyed Adulthood Is A Myth, and was able to relate to much of it (especially the panels where Andersen notes that a manicure is usually janky right after she's done with it, but a pedicure could potentially be perfectly intact long enough to show it off to her grandkids.). I did once have a pedicure that inexplicably lasted all summer. In fact, it reminded me of Hyperbole And A Half, but without the dog obsession and with more girly stuff. They both deal with feelings of being overwhelmed by adult responsibilities and a general lack of motivation to do things with the same bewildered voice. It was a light, fun read that filled the time in between it arrived and the time (about 20 minutes later) when the people in my house were finally ready to leave for some errands. Usually, I get impatient during waiting times like that, but this book held my attention nicely and kept me amused enough that I wasn't thinking about how on earth it could possibly take someone 20 minutes to be ready to go to the Post Office.
The page about going to the movies with someone at the beginning of the relationship vs. binge watching Netflix at home in a LTR really reminded me of how I am with my husband, and I imagine much of the book will ring true for other Millennials. Since I was so fond of its contents, I did find it frustrating that there wasn't more to it. I would've been psyched to read a book two or three times longer that featured more of the same. But, all in all, leaving your readers wanting more is a good thing, right? So, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the work of Allie Brosh, because it is so similar, and I also think it would make a decent gift, especially to someone who is new to the whole adulting thing and might not realize that it isn't as mysterious as it seems from a distance of youth.

I would like to thank Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with a free ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an open and honest review.
This book is great. So funny, so real, so… ME! I am often complaining about not wanting to have to adult today and there were AT LEAST a dozen comic strips (pages) from this book I wanted to share on social media. Especially any to do with hairy legs. ;-) I’ve had a rod shoved somewhere for too long when it comes to hairy legs and I’m only just now having it removed… so those cartoons were more an affirmation than a snort tea out my nose giggle. There were a few snort tea out my nose moments too though.
Okay, so I’m a mum of three who’s about to turn 40. One of my kids is ‘special needs’, the other two are just kids fully into exploring and learning about the world around us – so all in all a handful. It is my job in life right now to wrangle them and guide them through life. I’m also an extroverted introvert – meaning I’ve worked customer service type roles for half my life and know how to pretend to be happy and confident and all that out there dealing with people stuff… when all I really want to do is stay in bed in my pjs - alone – and read. So yeah, besides the kids bit, this book is really suited for someone like me.
It is funny, witty (you can be one without the other) and tap dances just far away from the norm to show how ridiculous said norm actually is. Loved it. Being a ‘breeder’ though, I couldn’t give it the full marks. We cop enough flack as it is okay? ;-)
Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. In fact, I have been doing so already and have been asked to stop as it’s not released until early March and can I please stop being such a tease about it. But I will keep recommending it as it’s a really good, lift your mood, read.
Would I buy this book for myself? Possibly. It is still in the realms of library book (for those who follow my reviews) but I do really enjoy the comic strips and have liked ‘Sarah's Scribbles Collection’ on Facebook just to get a daily dose. So, yes, definitely a fan.
In summary: You don’t have to be an introvert, heck you don’t even have to be an actual ADULT – as I shared some comic moments with my girls (8 and 11) and said ‘this is you’ and they agreed – you just need to know how to GET sarcasm and irony and be amused by it. Seriously good read to help lighten your mood and show you’re not alone in this whole ‘anti-adulting’ feeling.

LOL! This book! Such a great portrait of me trying to adult
First let me say I am sucker for weird, funny, looking cartoons, doodles or scribbles. I just find them infinitely delightful!
I used to read TONS of comics strips. Not sure why I stopped because when I read them I get in such a good mood!
I guess the reason I have stopped doing so many enjoyable things is precisely... Adulting!
BUT here it is! This atrociously hilarious book, so we can all make fun of adulting.
Because, let's be honest, adulting same as dieting, exercising, cleaning or shaving your legs or arm pits... IS SO FREAKING OVERRATED! :D
And I liked this book SO MUCH, because the delicious silly girl who does all the barbaric idiocies I do SO OFTEN is...
1 - A SISTA BOOKWORM
2- A SISTA SHY WALLFLOWER that
3- GETS HYPER ANXIOUS AND AWKWARD SOCIAL SITUATIONS
A kindred spirit!
So I was so into this book!
I loved the super hilarious situations that involved everything that is a pet peeve in a girl's life: bras, showing bras, PMS, high school frenemies, sweaty hands, and piles of barely used notebooks that were meant to be filled with tons of poetic quotes, and whimsical drawings [AKA bullet journals].
Be kind to yourself and GET THIS BOOK! And laugh about all those irritating, unavoidable little [or big] failures in your life.

I was lucky enough to score an ARC of Andersen's newest book, BIG MUSHY HAPPY LUMP, and after reading it, there was really no question that I was going to give it anything less than 5 stars. Sarah Andersen gets what it's like to be a book-obsessed, introverted, shy, socially awkward millennial struggling to make it as an adult.
SHE UNDERSTANDS US, YOU GUYS.
I had received an ARC to review of ADULTHOOD IS A MYTH several years ago as well and remembered enjoying that a lot (hence why I applied for LUMP), and when I noticed that my library had a copy of ADULTHOOD IS A MYTH, I decided to check out the finished copy and see if it lived up to my memories.
ADULTHOOD IS A MYTH is very clearly a debut effort. It's very good and very funny, and still extremely relatable, but I felt like BIG MUSHY HAPPY LUMP touched on more serious issues than ADULTHOOD did. ADULTHOOD IS A MYTH is me, circa my junior year of college. BIG MUSHY HAPPY LUMP is me, post-college and newly employed. It's still me, but it's the polished, fancy me that has bragging rights and a car.
I can't wait for her next collection. I'm hoping the cover will be green.
4 to 4.5 out of 5 stars

I love Sarah's Scribbles, so checking this book out was a no brainer. It reprints a bunch of her comics, which are pretty hilarious. I love her stuff, but I don't love the way this book was put together. Aside from 110 or so comics, there's nothing else to this book, which is a little disappointing, especially considering that it's selling for fifteen bucks.
My biggest issue with this book is the way that the comics were printed. Each comic is printed on its own page, which is nice, but there are several comics that are three panels across. What this means is that 2/3rds of the pages with those three panel comics on them are covered with blank space. If the comics had been slightly altered so that the panels were on top of each vertically, rather than laying next to each other, this wouldn't be a problem and the pages would have been fuller and nicer.
Really, this book is cool because I love Sarah's Scribbles, but it feels like people literally just saved the comics and printed them in a book, with little thought out into it otherwise, which is probably what happened in all honesty.

The world needed someone like Sarah Andersen to deliver the pithy, no-holds-barred truth in a cute package - and she's so great at it! I NEVER tire of looking at the vignettes dealing with "girl problems" I can totally relate to. She has a knack for finding that fine line between being brutally honest without being vulgar (which seems to be rather pervasive these days) and showing her human, sensitive side. Needless to mention, already pre-ordered the new calendars LOL
She's on my list of people who've made it who I'd actually like to meet - because she deserves one massive hug (or a few thousand, let's face it).
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

There have been occasional times that I have tripped over this particular comic on the web and each time it has been such a pleasure to read about Sarah since the author seems to hit the nail on so much things whether it is the loving of books, just living life the best way that you can and also what it feels like to be a female as well as an introvert.
This collection of comics was one of the best that I have read that is focused on real life for although there were a few that were a bit off on me so much others seemed to be so right at the same time. And although the drawing doesn't seem to be much in the worth of art it captures perfectly the ever-changing yet ever-staying world.
Easy to read and full of laughs this will be one book to definitely check out whether you are girl or guy. And if you don't like it then just move onto the next book and/or comic.

It has been ages since I picked up a book of comic strips. I saw a couple of positive remarks about this book and grabbed it immediately. Once I started reading these comics, I couldn't put the book down. I had never seen the Sarah Scribbles character before and was really excited to see what this was all about.
I was surprised by how much I was able to related to this funny little book of comics. There were entries about books, being an introvert, clothes, and all kind of little things that come up in life. Some of the comics made me glad that I am not the only one that has noticed some of these things. These were comics that I found myself constantly sharing with my husband. He likes it when I try to make reading a group sport.
The artwork in this book wasn't complex but it worked well. I think that art really was perfect to illustrate this imperfect little character. I would recommend this wonderful book of comics. I think just about everyone can find something amusing in this awesome little book. I will be keeping my eye out for other Sarah Scribbles adventures.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley.

This book takes the cake for being THE MOST relatable book about adulthood ever. I’m a 20 something adult who still refers to herself as a teen and honestly doesn’t have her life 100% figured out. Sarah Andersen encapsulates those feeling into quirky and fun comic strips that you just can’t help but enjoy.
I’ve been a long-time fan of Sarah’s Scribbles on Facebook, so I was absolutely overjoyed when I found out she was going to be publishing them in a book!
The book is truly wonderful, as it compiles all her comic strips and has never before seen ones. These comics are all ‘laugh out loud’ kind of funny, in a “OMG THAT’S SO TRUE” kind of way. Every comic has a bit of truth in them, which instantly makes them so relatable along with the traditional humor that made me love these in the first place.
My only qualm with the book is that it’s too short, so here’s to hoping that there’ll be a part two soon!

Sometimes being an adult is awesome. You get to set your own bedtime. You get to eat all the donuts you want. You can even sleep in a bed of donuts if you want. But being an adult is also awful. If you stay up all night you'll be tired. If you eat all the donuts you'll barf. If you sleep on a bed of donuts... well, you'll probably get an ant problem.
Adulthood is a myth pretty much sums up in hilarious comics all of the pleasures and pitfalls of what being an adult is—or at least, should be. Having seen Andersen's comics floating around on social media I eagerly dove into this and laughed my head off. I also stayed up way past my bedtime and slept through my alarm thanks to it. Darn you adulthood!

We all have to grow up sometime. Or not. Sarah Andersen's collection of cartoons, Adulthood is a Myth, reminds us that there is more to growing than just adding numbers to your age. She struggles with adult things, like chores, work, and relationships, but still has to deal with getting out of betting and talking to people.
Andersen's comics will best be appreciated by single women, women on their period, introverts, and book worms. I am a married man, somewhat extroverted, and a book worm, and I really enjoyed her humor. She did make a little fun of my favorite shoes, in her "Ugly Shoe Trend" comic. (They're called Vibram Five Fingers, Sarah, and they're awesome.)
She also has a love-hate relationship with social media. It is sort of odd the things people share. Do your friends want to see the picture of the cheeseburger you had for lunch? Really more than that, the complexities of relationships give her fodder for laughs. Our public face and the thoughts in our heads may not always correspond. . . . She'll try to be sociable, but her introverted self just wants to get home and get in her pajamas. Sounds like my wife.
Fashion foibles and overeating are stereotypically feminine concerns, and they are reflected in Adulthood is a Myth. I can't necessarily relate to her trying on a bunch of clothes and wondering "Are clothing companies even aware that bras exist?" I do sometimes wonder why girls can't seem to wear a shirt that covers their bra. . . . I also can't personally relate to angst about shaving my legs. But I did like the contrast of a "bad relationship," where her boyfriend flees upon seeing her unshaven legs, and the "good relationship," where he admires them. "Ooooo, fuzzy!" (My wife and I have a good relationship.)
So, Andersen has lots of feminine humor that I can only appreciate only in a second-hand way. But she hit home with me on overeating during the holidays, staying up all night reading, procrastinating, and, overall, realizing that just because I'm older doesn't mean I'm automatically going to do grown-up things. "I still just don't feel grown up, ya know?"

This is a great collection of Sarah Andersen's comics about growing up.
A number of these comics are featured on her website or on Twitter but there's some new ones as well. These comics are funny and sweet hitting a soft spot that makes you laugh and makes you think in just a few small panels.
It's a great afternoon read to lift your spirits and remind you adulthood is terrifying.

I was kind of disappointed in this. I thought it would be a lot more like Introvert Doodles that came out late last year. I read this one in about 5-10 minutes, and it wasn't that funny. It was entertaining, but more in a smile and "blow a quick breath out your nose" laugh here and there kind of way. For the price I paid, I expected more.

This is a really good collection of Sarah's scrribles however some of my more favourites were not inclueded here. Thus my disappointment.
However I do like Sarah's style, humor and the many times she draws something that just makes me think "That's What I THINK!"

Clever comics that you'll want to pace yourself with. They're so short that you can zoom through them without appreciating the underlying deeper meaning. Or just ignore what I said and laugh out loud for a good hour with this read.

Love these comics! I would go "me" with almost every one. If you're a fan of "Sarah's Scribbles" I recommend buying this/borrowing it from the library to support the artist's work. If you're a really huge fan, buy this so you can have your own copy on hand for whenever adulthood gets you down. Haha, I wouldn't mind if the artist drew a comic on escaping reality by reading her comic or a collection of them (like this book).

Here's a fun little book of cartoons that captures the everyday struggle of trying to be an adult but having it go just a little rougher than you thought it would go. My parents made it look so easy - or were they good at hiding the rough patches they themselves went through?

I'd seen some of Andersen's comics before, but I really didn't follow her work. Most of my friends loved this book and I decided to buy it. Hey, what's the worst that can happen when you buy something and you don't know it? But I loved it. It's hilarious and relateable.

LOL!

This was a quirky, funny and a quick read. Just what I needed. But after reading the book I wondered ...
How does Sarah Andersen know me so well?
Apparently quite well because she 'gets' introverted, sometimes awkward, coffee obsessed, book lovers who just like to snuggle up under a mountain of blankets, in their coziest clothes and hang out with their pets instead of being thrust into busy social situations. She's a little all over the place ... but then again so are my thoughts and anxious tendencies, amIright?
She understands a book addiction ...
She get's the socially awkward anxiety ...
And even my lack of memory for the most basic things ...
Yup, Sarah Andersen gets me. I'm just not sure this is a good thing. ;)
In the end, this whole 'adulting' thing is hard but Andersen takes the turmoil and anxiety and turns it into funny, quirky anecdotes that will put a smile on your face. My only wish was that the book was a little longer.
My Rating: 4.5/5 stars (increased to 5 stars for this site)

Four and a half stars!
I have long been a fan of Sarah Andersen’s comics. The way the capture the constant anxiety ridden insecurities of a young adult woman has me pointing at each strip screaming, “That’s so me!” It’s no different with Adulthood is a Myth. Filled with well known favourites, the book also contains new gems.
Every single comic brings a smile, if not an outright fit of laughter. Just a few pages in, I already found myself texting various friends praising the book and wanting to send them little snapshots of comics. There is something deeply comforting in these relatable little comics, knowing you aren’t alone in the vastness of the world, that not everyone worries about having their legs perfectly smooth for the beach, or wants children, or worries about a sure thing being a sure thing. You may not relate to every single comic, but they will remind you of friends and acquaintances.
Definitely an amazingly fun read, I wholeheartedly recommend buying it for yourself, or for any of the ladies in your life (most especially younger ladies around 11-14 who are likely feeling that rush of insecurity that comes with the age).

I'm happy I didn't buy this book but only loaned it. It came highly recommended and I was so hyped.
MEH.
I love her cartoons, I do... but she's not an artist you can read a whole book by. Her cartoons are at most one page long (4-6 frames). Very superficial, on the lower bar of funny.
Spare your time and money.

Please RateA Sarah's Scribbles Collection - Adulthood is a Myth
Her work is most appealing to a certain personality type and/or a majority of Millennials, so this might not be everyone's cup of tea.
I was mildly disappointed this collection didn't contain a handful of my favorite strips, but they were newer and likely posted after the book was already compiled. So here's hoping for book 2! Other than that, some of the strips were weaker compared to others, but that's to be expected.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and enjoy this collection.
