Cute book! I have three granddaughters who just started kindergarten this fall. I bought one soft covered book for one family, and a kindle book for the other family. All the girls loved the book, and it really helped them feel a little more comfortable about going off to school!

We've read several other books that are modeled after "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" and have enjoyed them. The rhyming of this book is enjoyable, but there are several things that I did not like. 1) There is a reference to "day care", stating that "Some kids brought blankets or their favorite stuffed bear, in hopes they could nap like they did in day care." My daughter asked what day care was. 2) Too much was made about parents crying, and it is not appropriate. If parents are crying, a 5-year-old does not need to be burdened with this. In the book, the parents stayed at school, crying and watching, while the kids did about a dozen activities! That is totally not realistic. In fact, the crying parents (and the children setting THEM at ease with a final goodbye and hug and wave) seemed to occupy the bulk of the book, instead of focusing on how the child is getting bigger, and going to like school, etc., etc.

Got this for my 5 year old to read before the first day. Sweet story that presents the time leading up this big event in a loving, fun way. My son asked to be read it often even after it occurred. Great for bringing about good conversations without anxiety and pressure. Buy and enjoy. ?

I didn't look carefully enough before I bought it. This book is a take on The Night Before Christmas. I don't like rhyming books for older children, and I was hoping for more of a story instead of a poem. The concepts are good, but I didn't enjoy reading it.

My daughter will be starting kindergarten this fall and I got her this book for her birthday. She loves it. We have read it together many times and she enjoys each time we read it. I feel it helps her not be afraid of going to kindergarten and it answers a lot of her questions in a childs way. Very sweet book.

I received this book along with "countdown to Kindergarten" the shipping was 1 day faster than scheduled. So a big thumbs up! Just got done reading it to my daughter, she liked it more than the countdown book. But after I opened the package and scanned the book I found that it was damaged. The top right corner was rippled. Even though it is small it still hurts my feelings. I would have sent it back but figured I could deal with it. Other than that I think the book us cute. Recommend!

I bought this book for my grandson - he was apprehensive about "going to the big school". So I sent the book to him as a little gift. My daughter read it to him several times. She said it was wonderful and helped to calm his fears.

My son is getting ready to begin kindergarten in July and he enjoys reading this book every evening before bedtime. I am tired of reading it . . . so I try to switch nights so I am not reading the same books every single night!!

Having taught primary grades for 28 years, I was familiar with this series of Night Before books.
I have many of them. This was for my grandson who just started Kindergarten. I also purchased The Night Before First Grade for my granddaughter.

Purchased this book for my son who will be heading to kindergarten next year. We love the book! I wanted to get him excited about going to school and we love this rhyming story. My son is anxious to collect more books from this wonderful series.

Not bad for $6, has a decent amount of candy and toys. But I wish it had less hard candy. Also, we did not get any name brand tootsie rolls, we got something that looks like tootsie rolls but are wrapped in clear plastic and different flavors. I don't mind that so much, but because I have smaller children at our party, I had to pick out all of the hard candy and it was a lot. Still pretty good for the price though!

Everyone knows that the first day is hard no matter what grade you are going in. This year I have Miles going into First Grade and Ginny going into 3rd Grade. So we love to read back to school books before going back to school. We came across this book, "The Night Before First Grade," by Natasha Wing. In this book we follow Penny going to school to be in the first grade.

My kids really like books by Natasha Wing, and I like how they prepare the kids for what is about to take place. This book did not disappoint either. It really fits on what it's like going back to school in first grade. Knowing that perhaps you might not be in the same class as your best friend. It is such a fun read and to see the difference between kindergarten and first grade.

This book has a small niche audience. That is kids who are nervous about going to kindergarten. So it's only going to appeal to a limited age range, and then only to kids who are nervous about going.

For that group of kids, I love this book.

It's a very simple concept. It walks through some of the fun activities that kids do in a kindergarten class. And at the end it shows that the kids in the class all love it there and don't want to come home.

For that niche audience of children who are nervous about going to kindergarten, this is a good book to open up a discussion with them about the subject.

I am sure that most people have heard/read the story "A Night before Christmas," and if they haven't they have at least heard the rhyme scheme behind the famous story. This children's rendition was very well done and kept to the popular sing-song poem that most know and love.

I do recommend this story to be read, for I haven't met a child to date that has not enjoyed a book, movie, or show that is written about something that they can relate too. This is something the entire family can enjoy.

Toward the end of the last year of preschool we start to read books about going to kindergarten and The Night Before Kindergarten starts with the familiar rhyme and takes the children through getting ready and going to school the first day. We offer several stories so that the children are not limited to one picture of going to kindergarten but to help them get excited about their new adventure when school starts the next school year. The Night Before Kindergarten is great when it shows the parents being sad to leave the children, while the children are having fun in their new class.

I purchased this as a gift for my best friends daughter before Kindergarten, and I was so glad I did, it arrived right on time the day before and she was SO happy to get it. The book itself is adorable, it helps kids with the thought of starting school, she was able to get ready and read this before bed, then told me all about how her next day was. I plan on getting one for my daughter next year before she starts school!

I loved the illustrations in the book, and it starts off great, with happy and nervous anticipation - but the end, with the parents crying, is completely ridiculous. Also it makes no sense how the parents can't leave until the teacher makes them leave. Maybe appropriate for parents who can't let go, but not a good choice for those looking to encourage their kids to function independently.

This will be a favorite storybook for younger children preparing for the first day at school! All over the town, there are children tossing and turning in their beds, worried about teachers, friends, leaving play and family behind, "while visions of school supplies danced in their heads."

Of course, all is well! The teacher is the best and it's the parents in the end who shed a tear or two as they leave their kindergarten scholars behind!

Kids will enjoy hearing this story over and over again! A really sweet read for parents and children!

I thought this story focused too much on things to be afraid of rather than celebrating this exciting new step in a child's life. I bought this book for one son and the preschool book for my other son. I ditched both. Of course fear and sadness will be part of the transition - I just didn't like the focus that this book put on that. Celebrate all that is new and promising instead!

I have seen many stories about children going off to school for the first time but this one has a surprising difference that really sets it apart from the others.

The poem begins on the night before kindergarten with children and parents getting ready for the big day. Then the day arrives and we see children and parents as they prepare, go to, and arrive at school. There is much said about a lack of napping places that does not match my children's experiences. But then we see how the parents are saddened by leaving their kids behind. The resourceful teacher manages to find a quick solution and all ends happily.

The first day of school can be hard for children and adults alike. This is the first book I have come across that deals with the excitement and hesitancies on this special day. A very fun book for parent and child.

The rhyming in this book keeps it light just as the illustrations brighten the dark unknown of what actually happens on the first day of school. I think it is a good thing that parents as well as kindergarteners are portrayed as having concerns when participating in such a momentous event.

I agree with the poster who said the storyline is terrible. I made the mistake of forgetting what this book was about after having it for over a year and pulling it out to read to my kid the night before kindergarten. He burst into tears when I read about the parents crying. HUGE mom fail. Do your kid a favor and buy a different book!!!

We bought this book for our 5 year old son, who will soon be entering kindergarten, and he loves it! The story and pictures are very neat and innovative, a spin from twas the night before christmas. We were not bothered by the crying parents because being able to express emotions is very important in life and I would rather explain to my son why those parents are crying than to pretend that it does not happen. It very healthy for children to learn that their and other's emotions and feelings are very important! The world needs more compassionate and caring people! This is a very hard and unfamiliar transition for everyone! Especailly from being mommy and daddy's little boy or girl to wow you are now a big boy or girl and entering the school system. We appreciated the book and it's values! Great book!!!! I would definately buy it again or recommend it to anyone entering kindergarten!

I thought this was an excellent read for children about to enter Kindergarten...not every book has to be realistic, because, let's face it, Kindergarten can be scary to a 5 year old. I also purchased a number of other books for pre-K and read those, along with The Night Before Kindergarten, to my 5 year old. He particularly enjoyed this book, because it's easy to understand, the rhyming makes it fun and it ends with the grown-ups crying, which he thinks is very silly.

LOVE.....LOVE The Night Before Books. Purchased this one to read to my son before his first day of Kindergarten and it is an adorable book. It not only helps excited kiddos get ready for their big day, but it is book that they can read every night and still love the story, words and illustrations!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
