A very interesting scenario, good characters with good character development. A novel scenario a story. This was well written and well woven together. I truly enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

It takes a few chapters to get into the character's profiles but stick with it! You will get hooked. Aubins writing is on par with others in the genre, Mike Grumbly comes to mind. Series books may be a put off but it s fast reading and reward you with a conclusion. The author could publish a 1000 page story but you'd be waiting and possibly lost in sub plots IMO.

I wish this book was labelled Young Adult. I hate not finishing a book, but I only got through this one because it is so short. The characters were very one dimensional, the plot was predictable and not worth the read. It would probably be a great book for a early/pre-teen and should be marketed as such.
The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Vol. 1 :: Eight Novels of Deep Space Adventure - Galactic Empires :: (First Conquest) (Stellar Conquest Series Book 1) :: New Adult Dark Paranormal / Sci-fi Romance - The Death Series Boxed Set (Books 1-3) :: RIFT (The Rift Saga Book 1)

Pacing is good, content and scenario interesting. Content is fairly typically YA situation setup. Some world building problems but not something to hold against YA fiction and pacing is such that most people won't be bothered/notice. Particularly if they just power through.
Biggest problem is it is half a book from my POV. Book is the set up for the next book with that the classically annoying 'what will happen next' kind of ending. I really dislike this kind of 'serial' writing and marketing. Particularly as this book really feels like an introduction to what is going to be the real story. the store lists it as 1 of 2, so I took the bait and got the second one. Well, super annoyingly it does the same thing and if you search the internet you can find out that this is really supposed to be a 5 part serial. Given how short the books are (< 300 pages) it is frustrating and the other three books have not been released. I would never have picked this up at this point if I knew that.

A fast and enjoyable hard science fiction story. I'm always a little disappointed with stereotypical characters - the harassing bully, the mentor, the secret - in young adult science fiction, and you find those here, but it's well done and the world-building premise is interesting.

This is a really great book! My daughter and I both could hardly put it down once we started! We HIGHLY recommend it! For adults as well as young adults. We have read all 4 of the books printed so far, and like them all. The 5th and concluding book in the series comes out the end of the year, and we are looking forward to it with anticipation!

At first I was wary of this since it was offered as a free book from the store Prime - and my luck with past free books has been very poor (e.g, "Red Hope"). But Landfall was actually a very compelling read. The situation seems reasonably plausible (for a Space Opera type of story), the scene descriptions are consistent and appropriate, and the plot is interesting. It was a good read and the start of a long series of stories.

I grew up reading science fiction, and have been searching for books that could expose the genre to my own children so that we might share a mutual love. I really liked Landfall - it's smart and witty (the chapter titles crack me up) and a solid story. theres a nice mix of science and relatable characters - Zax and Kalare are great, and most importantly my picky daughter doesn't want to put it down at night :)

The premise is interesting and the pacing is good, but the writing is more suited to preteens than YA - limited vocabulary and simplistic sentence structure. Most importantly, be aware that book 1 is not a complete story. It stops mid-plot, so if, like me, you decide the book is good enough to finish but not good enough to continue the series, you’ll be frustrated by the lack of an ending.

Mr. Aubin...You Suck. You created the Ship, made me part of the crew (because who would want to be a civilian), and now you've stranded me out here. I raced through your first three books, from the top of the leaderboard all the way to Coming soon. Your books have been painfully short at times, especially when I see I'm at 90% and I'm not ready for it to be over. Now just like our beloved hero, I'm stuck waiting.

It took me a couple chapters to get hooked but then the story pulled me in and it turned into a page turner I didn't want to put down. I'll be downloading the next book as soon as I'm done with this review!
My only complaint is that the formatting of the text is a bit wonky. But you get used to it.

I have always been drawn to science fiction books.
I have read many different authors and own several of Alex Asimov, Authur C Clarke and Ray Bradbury.
Jerry Aubin have got some of the jest they have.

I am a long time SciFi fan and reader. Excellent stories, burned through the first three books in 2 days. Good writing, some twists and turns in the plot. Not everything is what it appears to be. Certainly worth the read.

This book grabs you from the very beginning and always has you guessing what comes next! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi. I'd put this on the same category of Enders Game (another awesome book!). Can't wait to read book 2!

This is a very "young adult sci-fi" story replete with teenage loneliness, un-looked-for friendship/love, and a completely unfair and dangerous situation. Still, if you're looking for an easy sci-fi read this isn't bad at all.

I've read the full series so far and look forward to seeing more. Book one grabs you, book two super awesome leaves you wanting more. Preread book 3 and... it's so much slower, but it introduced a new character that's pretty neat, and like book 2 leaves you with a cliffhanger. Really appreciate the series and can hardly wait for more books.

I really enjoyed Landfall. I found it through the store Prime reading. I liked it enough that I went looking for Book 2 and bought it so I could continue reading the series. Landfall is a good introduction to what is so far, a fantastic series. I love Sci-Fi and enjoy reading dystopian future stories and Landfall falls right in that wheelhouse. If you're looking for a light, fun book, you can't go wrong with Landfall.

I liked the concept of the book. The characters to some time to actually like. There were confusing terminology throughout the book that made it hard to understand.I tried to skin past that and focus and the gist of the book.

full disclosure. I'm a sci-fi fan and will read just about anything in the genre and enjoy it. That being said, this book was better than many i have read. There was a moment where i worried the hero was going to be left behind. The resolution had me laughing out loud.

This is an engaging book with a good adolescent point of view that keeps you learning and engaged. The premise/pot/context is also quite bold and is not over-emphasized/over-explained (as some crappy sci-fi might attempt to do). This hits you with plot twists and big concepts in an unapologetic and direct manner. Very much looking forward to book II.

My fifth grader read this book in almost one sitting--I had to make her go to sleep. She loved it so much, I read it myself. This book rocks. It's smart, engaging, the characters are sharp and fun to follow, and (my favorite aspect) the world is built so well--no details missed, all the future technology is thought out to the finest details. The plot is gripping, and as it ended I knew I had to read the second (and I did! And it's just as satisfying!). This series is a winner. Totally recommended for middle school aged kids on up.

I greatly enjoyed the character development and the entire time and space of this book. It's typical to find an over abundance of overwhelming technology and futuristic dreaminess in many space novels but this book avoided all of that yet included some features that seemed more natural. Time for book 2

Strongly recommended to any space opera fan - strong and interesting characters with fast plot pacing that makes the book very hard to put down. Compares favorably to the Expanse series by Corey. Glad to have discovered this author and series- can't wait to read the next one!

I enjoyed this book. While there were occasional bits that pulled me out of the story. (Ex mins when it wasn't the character talking) over all it was engrossing. So much so that I looked up at the clock at 3am and thought I need to put the book down but I don't want to!

Characters, plot, science and situations all believably conceptualized. The mystery over "other humans" and the clash with the ants a bit weaker, but leave questions to keep you wondering what comes next. At least enough to grab the next book in my case... Will see how that one goes, but really enjoyed this book!

This is an incredible read. The characters were very well developed and so was the plot. The personalities of the people in the story is what makes this book as great as it is. They each have their own way of interacting with other characters' ideals. Also the deep rooted love for science fiction is obvious as the writing is fluent in science fiction gold.

The setting and plot points were interesting.
The first part of the book was a little slow.
The pace does pick up nicely. I basically enjoyed the book. However
Many characters seemed too one dimensional. You have your bullies and loyal friends.
I would have liked more character growth.

I tore through this book quickly and became emotionally attached to the charactors. Loved the mental movie provided by the settings, events and science. The teenage emotions and entanglements felt contrived at first, but then I'm 60 and don't face those situations now. I'm on board now and look forward eagerly to the next book in The Ship Series.

OK. This is my first review. Ever. "Landfall" is a good book. I read about 3-4 books a month, mostly SiFi, for many years now; recently on a Kindle (great, by the way). Somehow, I felt I needed to leave feedback for this author. To the author: You are a very good storyteller. That is what it is really all about. So far, I have read your first book and am set to start on the second book tonight. The story has drawn me in and I *really* want to know what happens next. It moves at a good pace and has a balance between action and intrigue. I really like the character development, I'm way past how you spell "Kalare" and just want to know what happens to them next. This is the best story, so far, that I have read in in a year, and my biggest fear is that your third book will not be out in a week or two when I'm ready for it. So get going, and I don't mean in a year and a half. Soon.
To prospective book buyers: Everyone likes their own kind of story, so your mileage my vary and all that. However, this guy definitely knows how to tell a story. This is a story of exploration of space and humanity on a multi-generational ship created to preserve and expand the human race. I don't know how it ends but I hope the author keeps writing (ideally as fast as I'm reading).

I don't read Sci Fi books hardly ever anymore, but this book series has captivated me! The author's style reminds me of early Tom Clancy - short chapters with frequent plot twists. I Highly recommend this book series to anyone who wants a fascinating read!

Not real crazy about our hero crying, etc, seemed to be too much of a wimp, language seemed to be too, stiff? Not natural , to me, conversation but grammatically correct. Bottom line , hard to identify with the main character.

Well written story with plenty of plot twists. Characters are appealing and the environment is unique. Reminds me a bit like a mash-up between Orson Scott Card and Nathan Lowell. I recommend it. Can't wait to read the other four books in the series.

This is the first time I reviewed a book. I hope I can save others the time I wasted. The writing is simple but acceptable. What is not acceptable is the story which I'm not sure exists. There is a beginning, there might be a middle, but there is no end. The last chapter sees our protagonist, who is portrayed as a genius throughout the book engage in a blunt maneuver inconsistent with his character. The book is clearly only a set up for a continuing series, but the author forgot to give the reader a reason to buy the next book.
