Trying to learn piano on my own was not working out, so I've started up with a teacher I like a lot, and she recommended this book. I like that it's getting me all over the keyboard early on. Even though it's Beginner level, the music is interesting and varied, and it provides nice little duets to play with my teacher. Finally, I feel like I'm making progress.

I have studied music pretty much my whole life and knew the basics of a piano. This book had me playing 100% better than I ever have before. It teaches you technique, theory and musicality. It is definitely a beginner book, though, so if you have ANY piano skills and you understand music and how to read it, you may want to begin with lesson book 2. All in all, I loved it and I'll be purchasing the next book in the series.

I'm returning to piano after a long hiatus, so I needed a refresher. I bought this book and (book one of) Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course at the same time, and worked through both.

I found the Alfred book to be substantially better than this one, on many counts. First, and most importantly, the arrangements in the Alfred book, while not necessarily fabulous (a concession to being an introductory text), are far, far better than this one. That's really important---it's annoying to play music that sounds bad, and it's hard, too, when it doesn't make "sense" to your ear. Second, and related, the Alfred book feels like it has broader coverage of music and musical styles, which makes it more interesting. Third, a lot of the music in this book leaves the hands almost fixed in place on the piano. That's okay early on, but it goes on for too long. It also leads to weird arrangements were the left hand contributes random parts of the melody, which is a bit unusual. Fourth, this book seems to assume the presence of a piano teacher or "friend" a lot (there are duet parts to a bunch of the music). I don't have that, so that's just a waste (not a big deal, of course, just not helpful). Finally, the Alfred book covers a lot more ground. That might mean you need to go through it more slowly, bit it also makes it a better buy.

All in all, while there's nothing wrong with the Faber book, I recommend the Alfred book instead.

This is a great book. Glad this is the one my teacher uses. The explanations are clear and concise and the exercises supporti the information being presented quite well I have used other books and this is the best so far.

I used a book from Alfred Publishing as required by a beginning piano class at my community college. It was a good supplement to my teacher and her handouts. This book is a great book all on its own. The information inside is great, and to be honest I've had a lot of fun playing through many of the pieces already. Sitting at a piano with this book is totally comfortable and not at all frustrating like the last book that I used.

As an adult piano student, I find this book easy to follow and fun to use. The songs are abbreviated and you are playing a basic tune for each song. Yet, it is fun to be able to hit the right keys and be able to recognize the song. Information is presented and you should take the time to read it and then do the practice exercises to get the most from the book.

I purchased this lesson book for a beginning Piano Class, I have some piano experience with another book but I was quite pleased with this one. I find that its a little easier to follow and will give a in-depth and complete learning experience.

This is a fabulous book. Having played an instrument previously, I came to this book with an understanding of the treble clef. It has broadened my knowledge to include bass clef. The best thing about the book for me is the progression of exercises. I find myself learning to play most effortlessly by practicing the exercises working my way through the book. I find the exercises and songs enjoyable to
Play and improving my skills. Love the book and how it is guiding me. My left hand is doing things I never thought it could!

I've been teaching piano for over 10 years now and have been through a lot of different students and different methods. I've come to decide that Faber, in general, is my favorite. I love this particular course for anyone who's starting anywhere around age 16 and up. It's just a great all in one book.

Average at best. It is hard to practice some of the lessons. For some of these lessons, they only give "cord names" for what is to be played in the base clef. You have to refer to another page to see how to play that cord. I think it would be better practice if it was set up like normal music with the base clef directly under the treble clef.

I use this book for all my adult students. Even students who previously had lessons as a child go through this as a refresher.
I love that transposition is introduced early.
I didn't learn to transpose with standard lessons as a child.
There have been a few typos or counting mistakes, but I think they've been addressed.
Thank you!

I got this as a requirement for a 45 minute piano class every week and it was really helpful! I have a lot of experience with music and was able to learn the basics of piano by myself out of class. Even if I did not have that experience, this book has thorough explanations and a lot of practices to he hone your skills. I recommend anyone who wants to learn piano to use this book!

As a professional music instructor, I can promise you that this is BY FAR the best adult method book on the market at the moment. It's well-designed and very well thought out and includes online media and a special play-along app to enhance your experience. The app also includes videos of the author teaching important concepts contained in the text. Fantastic work!

Alfred Adult Piano method and the like are hopelessly stuck in the past and need to refresh to catch up with this gem. If you're attempting to do a self-study course, look no further. If you're music teacher isn't presently using this book, have them take a look - they will thank you!

This is a wonderful piano book and the online media is helpful to play along with on my phone! I played piano as a child and I have rarely played as an adult but have practiced almost daily since I ordered this book. I am purchasing it for my nephew as well. I highly recommend it. I like it better than my childhood piano books. I purchased the 2nd level book. I learned every song I'm this book! I do think the prior piano lessons helped.

Adult Piano Adventures for Adults is one of the best instructional aids I've seen for someone new to the piano. It's easy to understand. I've had more success with this book than with a few sessions with an instructor.

I like the format of this book as it is very comprehensible and informative about playing piano.I would recommend this instructional book to anyone who would like to learn to play the piano in their adult years.

I enjoy this book. I like how it starts out with counting the notes as numbers and gradually gets the student into music the way it should be viewed. My piano teacher recommended it and I'm pleased.

As a professional piano teacher (James' Music Studio, Franklin TN), I have used the Faber Piano Adventures series for over 10 years with great success. This volume is what I use for adult students. It is an all-in-one version of the Accelerated method "for the older beginner," which is appropriate for early to mid-teens. I am currently using this for a number of adult students, one of whom has played by ear for years but missed out on the fundamentals of note reading and theory. the store had this at a great discount. Highly recommended! However...don't use it as a self-teaching book. Guidance from a qualified teacher and regular lessons (weekly is best) are the only way to go.

I am using this book with an adult student of mine. I chose it based upon a lot of good reviews, however, I am dissappointed with the way the book introduces the student to music, theory, etc. Therefore I am skipping around, as we work our way through the book. It is not the worst, but it could have been structured a little better.

Yes, it's just ok. I'd expect to see an Adult Piano lesson book have more interesting songs than this. I am into classic rock and there are a million songs out there to chose and learn from and all you get are regular and no so interesting songs (i am being nice). This is music folks, if you don't provide something that can move your musical soul to you just don't get the incentive to learn but only to put you to sleep. There are countless rock songs that have made it to Gold record status (not crazy music either) and common to my age group, adults, this book is a little boring. Amazing grace is patriotic and all but when you get to the part of 'Merrily we roll along' you just want to scream.

I grew up taking piano lessons (~10 yrs) and ended as an early advanced player before high school/college/grad school got in the way. Now that I've started my professional life, this book has made an excellent refresher course after a 15 year hiatus. Easily self-paced through a gradual introduction of topics, I'm combining this with Faber's Piano Literature series, working my way back into playing. The book is well constructed and the spiral binding enables it to easily lay flat on a music stand. I only wish they included a "how to use this book" instructions or given assignments for daily practice. The 3 minute summaries at the end of each unit are what made me choose this over Alfred's. I also like the melodies that are chosen, all recognizable so you already have an idea of what you should sound like, but in no way childish selections.

I definitely would combine this book with professional instruction if I were a beginner. My lessons from my teachers keep resurfacing in my mind as I play, reinforcing the intangibles a book can never teach. Specifically, how to press and lift off the keys to elicit different sounds and attention to phrasing the music. For instance, my middle/third fingers are my strongest and I have to train them not to press the keys harder than my other fingers, so I don't have oddly accented notes. These skills can be taught even with the simple melodies written to teach the theory. Technique is the hardest to learn on your own.

I consider this well worth the $15 retail I paid, even though I worked through the book in 2 weeks. Looking forward to Book 2!

I had studied and taught several piano methods over the years. Each has had its own excellent and beloved place in my life, but when I came back to teaching for a granddaughter, I knew I needed something else, and could not settle on what....until I encountered the Faber Adult Piano Adventures. As I flipped through book one, I became more and more excited, because this method appeared to have a wonderful gathering of the logical ways to teach, an easy-to-teach and understand way of presentation, and then an interesting and exciting repertoire of pieces for a beginner. I know it says that this method is for the adult, but for Allison, who turned ten last week, this is perfect. It helps that we live in the same house. Her practice is rarely solitary because someone is always listening to her practice....but our experience is not ever negative in the least. We can pick up the book and sit down with it to discuss a teaching point or a theory concept, which things are introduced in a clear and logical manner. The book does not tie us to reading by finger-number or specific position. It helps us to look and think and find the notes before we begin. It helps us to relate the notes on the music to the keys on the piano. It repeats the process and the logic enough that the difficulty of matching playing ability with reading ability is not going to be such a problem. The pieces are wonderful. At present our goal is to have seven memorized repertoire pieces ready at all times, and she is doing that, and we are rotating the list rapidly! Love the duets. Love the organization. I could be a cheerleader for this method! She is flying along, and I am happily trying to hold on!

Book was great until I got to page 48 where it went back to page 33 and repeated the same pages up to page 65! Kind of hard to teach yourself an instrument with a chunk of the book missing! This may be a great book but my copy isn't! I'd be wary about buying this on the store. If you do, make sure your book has all the pages in it when you get it. Sadly, it's too late for me to return it now so I'm stuck putting out money for another book :(

**Update** I contacted the publisher directly and they were kind enough to replace the book for free. The new book arrived in less than a week and I'm grateful to Faber for their quick resolution of my problem :)

I purchased the earlier edition of this book used from the store, and I am halfway through it. I'm an adult learning how to play the piano (having long forgotten my lessons from half a century ago when I faked being able to read the music . . . ). I can't recommend this book enough. My piano teacher learned about it from an adult student of hers and now uses it with all her adult/older students, having found it far superior than any other teaching book.

The units are simple but integrate theory from the very beginning to build a solid foundation. The songs are short enough to be able to master but do a great job targeting and reinforcing specific skills. I do second the recommendations to have a teacher if you can. The corrections and encouragement I get from my teacher are invaluable (not to mention the fun of playing duets!). I know I have a lot to learn, but I can see all the progress I've made and I'm enjoying the process.

I am taking lessons from a friend, she purchased this book for me and once a week she will walk me through a few pages. I began with zero piano skills, I couldn't even tell you what keys were what. A month later I can actually play music. It's a great book!
That being said I don't think I would have understood much had I not had someone show me what to do. I'm a hands on learner mostly.
Overall I am really happy.

After trying many different types of books over my 15+ years of teaching piano, this is my textbook of choice both for my group piano classes at the community college level and for individual lessons with older beginners. The explanations are excellent and thorough and there are many familiar tunes that the students enjoy playing. I also really like the theory pages-wish there were more of them!

I took a piano course at my University and we used this book. There are a lot of fun songs to play in it, and they scale well in terms of difficulty and complexity as the book progresses. I can pretty much play anything in the book now. I'll definitely try out the second book as well.

I chose this book for teaching private adult lessons as well as a high school guitar class several years ago after reviewing several other method books. I like to stay up-to-date, so I reviewed several other adult method books again this year, and again I chose this one. I like this book mostly because it has a mix of styles of music from popular to classical. The songs are well chosen for learning each skill, and the theory and exercises go well. As a companion to this I often have students learn some songs from the John Thompson method to introduce more keys since between the first and second book they only cover C, G, F, and one or two songs in D.

Need an adult all in one volume three! I bought one and two and they are both excellent in teaching the basics of playing the piano and reading music. Each book is approximately 180 pages and there is a dictionary, cross hand arpeggios, and the 12 major pentascales chart at the end of the book. I love that the book is spiral bound and moves at a decent pace. Buy both books if your a beginner or returning student.

This is my favorite adult piano series. It comes in two levels with or without CDs. I have taught piano for 35 years and have used many books during that time.
This is the best. Theory, technic and songs are included in one book.Adult Piano Adventures All-in-One Lesson Book 1 CD

My piano teacher started me in this book as an adult beginner with no previous experience. I am almost finished with this book and have enjoyed using it for learning to play. I just purchased book 2 and will be starting it in about a month. I strongly recommend the book for adult beginners the songs are fun to play and they do not make me feel like I'm playing children's music.

I've been a private piano teacher for over 30 years. This is an EXCELLENT book for beginning adults. It's clear, concise, but progresses well and gives the student many opportunities to advance and feel successful. It includes theory and teaches scales and chords effectively. I highly recommend it!

Deceiving title, I thought this would be quite a bit more salacious of a read, 50 shades of F# and all, ya know? After realizing my error I decided to give it a try to feel the keys and learn some piano, doesn't matter if they're black or white. C#, Bb, its all the same to me, innit?

It was a great book. I am not still playing piano. I can't fault the book though. The good thing about this book is that it doesn't have too many of the cheesy songs everyone learns when playing piano. There's some good simplified versions of some classics. Maybe one day I'll return.

I used this book for a piano class, and I liked the book well enough. My only complaint is that the pages were printed out of order. So that made it a bit confusing to navigate. It was only 6 pages that were out of order but it was still annoying. I have no complaints about the store's service though.

My teacher had me buy this book -Adult Piano Adventures All-in-one. at the music store where she gives lessons. The book had no discs. Thinking the discs in Adult Piano Adventures All-in-one would help me, I bought the book with discs. The disc don't help The discs has background music for the pieces listed in the book, not individual sound of the pieces. The Adult Piano Adventures All-in-one is design for teachers only it's not for student who want to learn from the disc by hearing the individual sound of the piece. The discs are design to help the teacher to help you.

I did buy a book (Progressive Piano Methods) she let me use it before she change books. The discs that came the book only sounded like pieces in the book. The teacher did let me use the book for awhile, but she pick the pieces she liked. Some of the pieces were difficult for me, instead giving me help me the pieces I was having trouble with. She was happy to change to Adult Piano Adventures All-in-one. This series of books are for teachers to have students buy. The Alfred books are the same. Give me my star back.
