I Am Enough

I am a huge advocate of encouraging kids (especially girls) to love the akin they are in and be who they want to be not who someone else says they should be. Real friends will be there in good and bad times and love you for you. Now that I have my own daughter, my advocacy has increased tenfold. Love the book and the message it sends. Artwork is beautiful as well.

I cannot say it enough, we as a society will get no where if we only teach black and brown girls to love themselves. This book is for every child. It has done wonders for my neice’s self esteem but don’t skip reading it or buying it for kids of all shapes and colors. We owe this to each other.

@kidlitexchange #partner A lovely and inspiring book, I Am Enough is full of similes and rhymes, great for teaching poetry. The innovative art style would be great to use as a mentor text, mixing crayon outlines and photo cutouts with a simile of the student’s own creation. I enjoyed the build-up of this book, right up to the crescendo at the end when the title is quoted.

My daughter is pretty confident for a 7 year old, but this book gave her that extra boost of confidence just in case I was "being the typical loving and caring Mama". Somehow "reading it", seemed to make it more believable and for her to actually "see" it in print, whipped away any doubts she may have had.
