I have loved all of the "Legend and Lies" books and was anxiously waiting for this one to be released. This book was of special interest to me because I am writing a book, a historical fiction based on a personal history of my great grandfather who served the Confederacy during the Civil War. I loved the book. It is engaging, honest and an eye-opener. Even if you've read a ton of books on the Civil War as I have, don't discount this one. You will love it. It stands out against many others written, but then what else would you expect from Bill O'Reilly and David Fisher.

I really enjoy history, especially the history of the Civil War. Bill O'Reilly does a great job of bringing out little known facts about not just the famous names associated with the war, but lesser participants in the actions taken during the war.

If only the books I read in college had so much information? At times this was a difficult but worthwhile book to read....MANY names of people and places I'd never heard of before. I often was confused on who was fighting for. the north and who was fighting for the south so I started highlighting passages so I could keeps my thoughts straight.....

I recommend thus book for those who want to understand the truth about our history and not just gloss over the facts....but be warned....this is not a simple novel."its HISTORY" at its best!
Treason: A Novel (The Major Brooke Grant Series) :: An Early Mac Travis Adventure (Volume 1) - Wood's Relic :: Dropping the Atom Bomb and the End of World War II in the Pacific :: The Death of the Nazi Regime and the World's Most Notorious Dictator :: Last Breath

Excellent. I read a lot of military and civil war history so I am very familiar with the subject. I liked the style that provided an overall historical view of the period and great events, while illuminating specific events (digging into) in significant, factual detail. Very well presented flows well and you do not have to be a history nut to enjoy understand and learn from it. No earth shaking new legends, or lies exposed, but provides a catchy title. Very well done. Recommend it.

It was a very interesting presentation of the Civil War. The North still won & Lincoln was assassinated. But, they debunked a lot of myths. They also approached the war in straight forward approach.

Wonderfull Read. You know, I haven't read anything From O'Reilly/Dugard that wasn't one of the BEST.
Even when O'Reilly teams up with another partner for a book, his books are some of the best I have
ever read. Bet you can't just read it once...

As Civil War buff, I hold material on the conflict to a high standard. This volume is among the best I've read. It arrived in very timely fashion and well [protectively] packaged. I consider both the source and service to be excellent.

Too much David Fisher and too little Bill O’Reilly in this one. While historically, quite accurate and well written, I found this book not as compelling as the “killing” series, which books generally posess interesting and insightful footnote comments and better personalization of the historical character subjects. Still, a good read for the Civil War buff.

I just love this book. The book is filled with great facts and photos of the Civil War. I would recommend purchasing this book for family and friends. I have only read half the book but I am enjoying it very much.

For the casual reader who doesn't want a blow by blow description of the war in multiple volumes by Foote.
Finely illustrated. Whomever wrote the inside jacket copy has yet to read the book.
It proclaims "...debunks the myths that surround the era's greatest figures like Harriet Tubman, Lincoln..."
Perused each page devoted to these two and uncover nothing that wasn't know a generation ago.

Bill O’Reilly does not write these book, which are filled with nothing more than unsubstantiated lies. Disgraced Historian Martin Dugard does the actual writing. The Kennedy family are suing him for Killing Kennedy. Fords Theatre Museum and the Lincoln memorials in Springfield, IL. refuse to sell Killing Lincoln because the book is again, full of unsubstantiated lies

Very unbalanced read... If you've read any of the current progressive renditions of the Rebellion, then you will be comfortable with this book. I'm only through chapter 2 and it's hard to get through.

Good illustrations. Major typo on page 33. What is supposed to be a picture of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, is actually a picture of Union General Jefferson Davis, corps commander under W. T. Sherman during the 'march to the sea' .

Bill has a flair for writing which is good. But he needs someone to check his "facts". Just one example...Bill says that Breckinridge won all the southern states in the 1860 election. That is false. There are others...

Filled with typographical errors, poor grammar, and confused writing style. O'Reilly continues his assault on historical accuracy with yet another attempt at revisionist history. If you're after historical facts instead of propaganda designed to prop up Bill O'Reilly's fake intellect cred, go read Bruce Catton.
