This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was full of twists and turns, great characters and a great story line. Difficult to put down. I can't wait for the second one to come out.

Helena and Robert are now one of my favorite fictional couples. Christi Caldwell is definitely an author I am going to be looking for now. "The Rouge's Wager" is one of those rare books that once you start reading it, it is extremely hard to stop and leave the fantastic world the author has created. I would and have been recommending this book to any and all who will listen.

All the issues that Helena lived with were eventually overcome when she admitted herd love for Robert. And with that love came to understand the complexities in loving Helena and admitted it couldn't just be about him Zn his feelings and wants for her.

Really cute story of an intellectual girl scarred from a traumatic childhood. The son of a Duke, cold and determined never to love again. They fall for eachother. It's the first romance I enjoyed in a really long time

While the story was good, the author seemed to have a need to throw in as many obscure words as they could. It became distracting to have so many words not used in daily language and the million times the word mayhaps was used. There was also a lot of repeating of details multiple times.

For want of a worthy proof reader/editor, this book lost one star. While not horribly frequent, the misuse of words slowed this work down and pointed to a lack in the author. Please instead of plea; resurrected instead of erected...too many others.
The story was good and the characters well developed. However, regardless of the title, I never found a wager involved. Hmmm...stranger and stranger. Still worth the read.

I have read about 25 books of Ms. Caldwell. ALL are wonderful. There are plenty or reviews so mine is not really needed. I respect the author deeply and I know you will enjoy each book. It is not necessary to read them in order, BUT is definitely More fun. You won't get much sleep. Happy READING.

A women scarred on face, hands and soul; a man scarred in his heart and soul. Such a beautiful journey. Christi Caldwell writes so beautifully that you forget where you are in reality and live her stories as though they are your own.

Helena Banbury is a bookkeeper inner brother's gaming hell.
Robert Dennington is a Marquess whose world was turned upside down by his fiance and his grandfather.
Robert meets Helena while he is in a drunken stupor and can't forget her even after he sobers up. Helena has had a very sad life that has left her scarred and leery of others.
This story will bring lots of tears and smiles because Christi knows how to leave you with a warm feeling at the end. I must rank this one very high on my list of favorites.
Highly recommend this book #1 in her new Sinful Brides Series.

I’d like to address the several 1-2 star reviews since they nearly prevented me from reading this book and I don’t want that to happen to others. I was astounded, especially after reading it, how many bad reviews there were.
First, my biggest pet peeve is when people give an adult romance novel a bad rating because there is sex in it. It’d be like giving a YA novel a bad review for a lack of sex. I do wish that the store/Publishers did a better job of being up front about the steaminess of a novel because I have been duped into thinking I’d get some action to come up dry. There is sex in this book, but it really isn’t that explicit. I don’t think Caldwell even used the word nipple. Please don’t read if you want something PG.
Second, know your expectations. This is romance novel. Puh-lease people!!! It’s not solving world hunger. If you expect a deep and profound, life changing book you should look elsewhere. This is an easy, light, romance and never claims to be anything else.
Third, grammar. Yes, there are some grammatical errors, not enough to distract me, but I am hardly the grammar police. If you are the type of reader who cannot look past that and enjoy a book for its plot and characters, then I recommend you look elsewhere. Probably look away from FREE ebooks in general.
Fourth, several reviewers claimed to be confused with the time line or what was happening during action scenes. I myself was never confused. I am not sure what they are talking about. Try reading slower, or just stick to reading the Twilight series for something that is more your speed.
Fifth, historical and other inaccuracies. This I am a stickler for and this book was rife with them. Usually I dock a star or two for this, but I loved the originality of this plot so much that I looked past it. For instance, her use of a cockney accent was very poorly executed and should not have been attempted. If you cannot suspend some belief and allow the author some liberties with the time-period I recommend you look elsewhere.
Sixth, people claim there was no originality and that it was predictable. The heroine works as a bookkeeper in a gaming hell.? What regency novels are you people reading that gets more original than that? What do you want? A regency heroine who OWNS a gaming hell, and is an astronaut, with no legs, and has been crossbreeding the perfect dog-cat in her spare time? Seriously. There is no such thing as an original regency romance anymore. This is the closest it gets. Also, these are the same people who are upset about inaccuracies. You can't have a unique RR without inaccuracies. Do not read if you are sick of Regency Romances.
All in all, I enjoyed this book very much. I found the plot unique and interesting. I am so glad I gave this book a chance and I encourage others, if the blurb interests you, to give it a try as well. It is short & FREE!!! Is it a 5/5 compared to “Pride & Prejudice”? No. But it is a 5/5 for my expectations going in and something I will read again. Tirade over!

I do believe Helena was one of the strongest heroines I've ever read. She's was basically raised on the streets of the Dials before her brother found and rescued her from a horrible life. Not only does she bear physical scars, but she has to overcome mental ones as well! Robert ends up seeing through her defenses and falls in love in spite of her walls! Several twist and turns as they slowly start to open about their pasts and what shaped them as the people they were now. I will admit, I HATED the Duchess but loved Diane. I hope she and Helena's brothers get their own story soon!

Thank you very much C. Caldwell for giving Westfield not just a story but an awesome developed and enjoyable book. I fell in love with Westfield in his cousin's book. I couldn't believe he didn't get a book in the Scandalous series. Robert is such a strong hero. Meeting Helena and fighting with her was an awesome beginning. As they get to know each other she slowly opens his eyes to a world he has never seen and he is changed as he opens his heart to her. He is immediately intrigued by her. She is strong and loyalty but also a survivor to a horrible childhood. I loved how well the story was written. I highly recommend this book!!

Rogue's Wager is a beautiful love story where two wounded hearts find love and heal. Ms. Caldwell outdid herself and created a heartwarming and mesmerizing read. I enjoyed every minute of Robert and Helena's story, and I think this might be her most emotional and romantic book yet. I can't recommend it enough! I can't wait for Ryker's story next.

This was a pleasurable book to read. I laughed quite a bit in the beginning. I got the audio version and the performer, Tim Campbell, did a wonderful job. I am definitely going to be reading more books by Christi Caldwell.

Regency England, heroines that are more spitfire then weak damsels in distress. Ready for the 2nd in the series as well as now back tracking her other books. She weaves unforgettable characters in her story world.

Christi Caldwell writes reality. She writes about the underdog who fights and is able to make their dreams come true. Helena is fierce and gives back to Will as good as he gives. She is no wilting wallflower and I love that about her. She is a strong woman who survives and thrives.
