Xypher! Hot, sexy, and tough. I was beginning to forget what a good Kenyon book read like. This one was a return to the original writing that so many of us have come to enjoy. Xypher is a character introduced in the first Dream-Hunter series. Hades let him off from his punishment as payment for a job he did but under the stipulation that he would have only one month unless he could prove his character in that one month. Meaning, he had to sacrifice himself unconditionally.
Simone knows about the Dark Hunters only because her best friend is a guardian for them and she teaches and works at Tulane. When and if any suspicious dead bodies arrive, it's up to her to hide and manipulate the evidence so that the normal people out there don't know what is really going on. But there's more. Simone sees ghost. As a matter of fact, her best friend is a ghost that has been living with her since she was ten and her parents died and left her an orphan.
Then comes the night that Xypher and Simone collide. Of course sparks fly, but mostly from their tempers. What I love the most about Kenyon is her sense of humor. It definitely shines through in this book. Simone's ghost friend is hilarious! I absolutely loved him and am so disappointed that the story is over and therefore his character has probably come to an end. I especially loved it when he gave Xypher love advice and his Culture Club and Wham! references. This is definite recommend reading!

Audio- I almost skipped this book. The last dream Hunter book just did nothing for me. This one woke up my need for the Hunter world. This edition to the series has strong ties to the Dark Hunters, with a few characters overlapping into the story. It was exciting, mysterious, romantic, and set in New Orleans !
Simone Dubois and Dream-Hunter Xypher are the perfect mix of hot and cold. They are trapped together, and boy oh boy talk about opposites. Snicker** this is where the fun starts. They torture each other by pushing those buttons and some how growing closer. He fights it more than her but he needs her to stay alive so he can full fill his greatest desire revenge.
Dead bodies start showing up and there is something not right when the bodies get up and walk away. Simone is the medical examiner and is called in to advise on these deaths. What she finds out sends her and Xypher on a path that will change her and his future forever.
Blood, ghosts, death and evil.

I missed the Dark Hunters so much! This was the serie that made me fall in love with books and is completely impossible for a book by Sherrilyn to disappoint me.
I never was a big fan of the Dream Hunters but I can tell you that this book surprised me, Xypher is awesome, he is definitely my favorite Dream Hunter.
Dream Chaser is about Simone and Xypher. Simone is a medical examiner that can talk with ghosts so she uses that to help find the killers. Her mother and brother were killed when she was young and that day when she was in the hospital a ghost named Jesse came to her and told her not to cry, since that day they never left each other. Simone and Jesse have a wonderful friendship, is beautiful to see them together. How much they care for each other, how much they love each other, Jesse is her only family and he loves to be with her.
Xypher is half demon/ half god. He is dead but in the book Devil May Cry, Katra made a deal with Hades that he would allow Xypher to be human for a month and if within that month he found his humanity, he would be free. But Xypher just wants vengeance from the person that caused him to be tortured for all the eternity, he doesn't even believe for a second that after that month he would not get back to hell, he just wants to make sure that this time he doesn't go alone.
This book was amazing! Like always Sherrilyn gives us many surprises, twists that we were not expecting and makes us see that just because you suppose a person is mean doesn't really mean that they are and that some people just need someone to loved them and they can become a completely different person, they priorities can change.
We also get to meet a new character that I LOVED and I am super curious to know more about. At a certain point that character really surprised me with his actions and that made me like him even more.
If you are already familiar with the Dark Hunters world than you know that all the books are fantastic and always full of surprises and you definitely should read this book. If you are not then what are you waiting for? Go read the first book in the series, you will love it.
I recommend reading all the books in the proper order, you don't have to do it but I think is much more nice to know what previously happened and all the characters stories.

Well written with likeable characters. Typical paranormal romance series fare: a group of intense studly guys, hot women, etc.
The book did drag a bit here and there whilst the characters hunted down leads, the assorted species and backgrounds were a bit confusing for a casual Kenyon reader (aka myself!), and the ghost who is the main character's sidekick is puzzling. He is corporeal enough to play records and prefers to sit upon chairs, but is unseen & unheard by the general populace, unable to be touched by the main character and still somehow morphs through walls. And no, he has claimed not to be a poltergeist. So what gives? Gotta say, that forgotten element of the story was frustrating...
The rest of the story itself contained enough twists and turns to keep me entertained in one sitting. I wouldn't pay retail price (although I rarely do these days), but I certainly wouldn't turn this one down at the library. Just good fun. :)

This series has so many characters to fall in love with, and they keep popping up, so you can get a chance to find out what is happening in their lives. Julian still helps where he can, and here Xypher got his own book.

Like other reviewers, I did not like any of the previous Dream-Hunter books. After getting a glimpsed of Xypher in Devil May Cry, I was really hoping his story would somehow be better and it is! As I read the book, I kept thinking to myself, "finally Sherrilyn Kenyon is back to the great way she writes". Acheron, Kat, the Sanctuary crew, Stryker, and a new all powerful character, Jaden, take parts in this book but the story is all about Xypher and Simone even with all these other characters. You do get to find out what happened to the Dimme gallu demon that escaped in Devil May Cry and you even find out what happened to Xedrix, the Charonte demon that was Apollymi's favorite. This story has good humor and to me, the flow of the story was similar to that of Dance With The Devil (fast-paced, full of action and hot sex). I couldn't put the book down and finally had to when I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore at 5:30AM!
If you like Dance With The Devil or Devil May Cry, you definitely want to read this book. The preview of Acheron's book at the end also makes you wish even more that Acheron's book was already available.

A "deceased" half-demon demi-god, Xypher lives for one thing vengeance against the female whose betrayal has left him locked away in Hade's most secure prison Tartarus. His target Satara knows he will try to come for her if he escapes; especially in her dream state so to mute his threat she has "bonded" him to Tulane University medical examiner Simone Dubois. If either dies the other also dies, but this time permanently.
Although he does not like being tied to anyone, Xypher realizes that Satara made an error by selecting Simone as she is used to the paranormal rooming with a teen ghost and solving murder mysteries by consulting with the victims. Instead of panic, Simone begins to work with Xypher especially when the mortal world becomes threatened.
DREAM CHASER is a delightful often amusing romantic fantasy starring two interesting protagonists and a fascinating antagonist. Readers will emphasize with Xypher who understandably out grouches Oscar and admire Simone who does not blink when the paranormal enters her life. Their debates make for a fun time especially their discussion as what to do to Satara. With additional spins leading to save the world or else, Sherrilyn Kenyon provides a superb romantic thriller that answers the question of whether bonding includes love at least for this couple.

And Kenyon continues with her addiction to torturing and whipping (seriously, what's with her addiction to whipping men?) yet again with yet another super-over-tortured and super-betrayed look-alike guys and forgettable gals and the generic soul Roulette and, you guessed it, more eons of torture. Save your money.

Simone is a medical examiner who teaches a class at a college and has a ghost living with her. Xypher was a dream god who was given a month to be human and to find his humanity. If he doesn't he goes back to Tartarus to be tortured by Hades. But Satara wants him dead before he can kill her. She's the reason he is in Tartarus to begin with. She places a band on both Simone and Xypher and if one dies the other does too. They cannot be more than 15 feet from each other or they die, so they must find a way to get them off before the two weeks he has left on earth is up.

I don't like the previous Dream Hunter book. It bored me out. But this one is refreshing and thrilling and romantic. The end is surprising and happy. I don't know about you but I love happy ending. Life is hard, shouldn't fantasy be happy so we can believe in a very happy ending for our own?
Xypher rocks. Simone is perfect.
I reread this book many time and it's still good. Granted, we can see many repetitive points in SK's serie, but each story is a love story with happy ending. Characters in each book has to choose and doesn't really get everything. DH choose human life over immortality, Ravyn chose staying sterile (since he didn't want his soul back), Xypher chose revenge, bad person didn't die out all yet.
I think fantasy books should be thrilling, funny and happy like this.

This book was a pleasant surprise, because I didn't like very much the previous Dream Hunter books. That was the reason I keep pushing Xypher's book down the TBR list until it was almost time for Acheron's book release.
Xypher and Simone are very interesting characters, with the revenge plot against Satara fuelling Xypher's actions. Their love story is believable although it happens in a short time, something that didn't work so well in previous books.
Regarding secondary characters, it was very nice to see some old New Orleans friends, like Julian or Tate, the squire who was in the morgue in Kyrian's book, Carson, Santuary's veterinarian, Kyle Peltier (I missed the weres!!), Katra, Acheron.... and some new ones, like Jess, an interesting ghost, and Jaden, a very powerful and hot new character.
After being disappointed in later Kenyon books, this and Devil May Cry have revived my hopes for Acheron's book.

It was a little disappointing that Ash wasn't in this book much. I thought the story a little predictable as I knew just about how it would turn out but I must admit that Simone and Xypher were intriguing and sexy. I really liked Xypher even if he was rather caustic. I liked Jesse too. Who has a ghost as a friend? It was rather funny though I was a little hurt that Sherrilyn didn't give us an epilogue with information regarding the future of Simone and Xypher. I guess we'll learn more later.
The whole thing with Xypher and food was just sad. I was totally with Simone in wanting to just touch him and make him feel all better.

I was so relieved to see some positive reviews of this book as the last couple (Dream Hunter, Upon a Midnight Clear, Devil May Cry) were not-so-stellar, that I immediately ran out and bought this book. I was not disappointed.
Though I have to disagree with some reviewers that say Sherri is back to her old form, I can say that she is definitely moving in the right direction. Let me begin by saying: If you have not read at least Devil May Cry before picking up this book, don't even try to follow along. Dream Chaser features Xypher, the tortured Skoti brought in during Devil May Cry. Xypher is the son of a gallu demon and Phebos, the Greek god of nightmares, and he has spent centuries in Tartarus, tortured for taking the blame behind a woman's crimes. For his good deeds, he is given one month to live as a human - with limited powers. If he can regain his humanity in that time, he will be freed from Hades' clutches. Instead of seeking this out, however, Xypher is firm that if he's going back to hell, so is the woman who damned him. That woman, being of course, Satara, Artemis's handmaiden and sister of Stryker, the Daimon leader. Satara appeals to her brother for help and he produces gold bands, which are actually an Atlantean weapon against the gods. They link two beings together, usually one god and one weak human, and then the two united beings cannot separate at risk of being killed. Oh, and if one is killed, the other dies, too.
Enter Simone Dubois, ME professor at Tulane and attractant for all manner of weird things, ie a teenage ghost stuck in the '80s. As she and Xypher are linked, she struggles to see past his rage and bitterness to the hurt man beneath, and begins to restore a part of Xypher that he'd thought long dead: his heart.
I thought this story was well-paced, engaging and a huge step up from the last few books, but there still was a little something missing for me. The dialogue between Simone and her ghost companion Jesse was humorous, but I would have liked to have seen more of that calibre of banter between the two main protagonists, like SK has done in past installments of this series. At times the romance took a back seat to all the action, which is fine, because it moves the story along swimmingly, but I would have liked more emotional build-up in the romance part. The ending is very emotional, and one of the best tear-jerkers of this series since Seize the Night, and you want to cheer when Xypher and Simone get their well-deserved HEA. Dream Chaser takess a big weight off my shoulders as ACHERON gets closer and closer, and now I can't wait.

I got the dream hunter series just before ACHERON came out as I wanted to be up-to-date for that book. Didn't want to miss a thing. If you haven't read the dream hunter series then I'd advise you to just get this one as a tie-in with Devil May Cry. Books one and two are major snoozers - get them from the library! This one is getting back to what we expect from SK. I think that the publishers made her put out the dream hunter series just to eek a bit more out of the buyers before we get the ACHERON gold. She probably only had one book planned and they stretched it out to 3. Go figure. Anyway, this book is alright, and if you're like me and want to know all the background details to a story then get this series before you read ACHERON.

This is more like it! Ok, so I read the Dream Chaser and I hate to say it, cause I've said such bad stuff recently and was loosing hope, but I loved it! The characters were all perfect. None of them felt like they'd had a brain transplant from earlier books.
I am left with so many questions. I need to know more about Jaden. He seems as all knowing as Ash...except for the bit at the end. That's all I'll give away.
Basically, wow, this one didn't feel phoned in. I had trouble getting into it at the start but once I did I was so grateful. This book has given me hope for Ash's story.
I guess the big step for me (laugh if you need to, this isn't my only focus) was when SK did the sex scenes she made them different. I am sure if you've read SK you know that she tends to write almost all sex scenes the same way. These were much better and more natural.
Props to her, I hope this proves a change from the last lot of flops we've read from her. I shall try not to judge her as an author by her few bad novels.

I was one of those who was very unhappy after reading the 2nd Dream-hunter Novel. I had actually enjoyed the first. This 3rd addition to the DreamHunter series was the best of all 3 in my opinion--and is a definite HAVE TO READ.
Kenyon is back on the road in this one, bringing all the adventure, romance and razer sharp dialogue she is known for in a tale of a Skotio Dreamhunter who wants revenge and the woman who only wants to see him redeemed.
Perhaps the change back of venue to New Orleans made some of the difference??? I don't know. I just know that the novel had a solid plot, and I really didn't want to turn to that last page.....

Still not perfect, but it's more of a story than recent past books. The characters had more depth and didn't whine as much as in recent books.
As another reviewer pointed out there was still something missing, the characters still were not that fleshed out. This is pretty much all the characters, secondary and primary. Though I had more of a sense as to the primaries, their past was more words than something that was actually felt and worked through. And working through does not mean to continually bring up the past, which was kept down to a minumum, but it was to be more consistent with what is being said, actions to words to thoughts.
There was one seen at the restaruant that the primaries seemingly come to an understanding on how similar their pain is and that they don't want to talk about it and then the next thing Simone is asking Xypher what happened? Despite this "ah what" which there are a few, the flow of the story is not lost, you just need to let it go and move forward.
All the secondary characters were more of a means to an end -- convenient. I don't really see why there would be a lasting friendshipt or connection between any of them, though there is a a making of all this. It's just light weight and these two can go off and disapear, but at the sametime they could be very good catalysts for future stories. I'd really like to see better connections and why the connections are there instead of just accepting that people will help.
I like the new character Jayden. I guess after Acheron is saved Jayden will take his place a bit to being a tourched anti-hero. I did like him and want to see more.
Anyway, this is a buy. It's got some nice heart.

As a long time fan of Ms. Kenyon's Dark-hunter, Dream-hunter, Were-hunter series I had began to loose hope that she would ever regain the fire she once had at the beginning of the series. Her past efforts had been tepid at best, and sadly there were even a few stinkers amongst the offerings. Admittedly these were the shorter stories, but still...So it was with a heavy heart that I picked up Xypher's story. I didn't bother to read reviews as I wanted to come to my own conclusions but I prayed I would not be let down. My wishes were answered! Kenyon seemed to tap into her old self and write a story that was hard to put down, that left me crying and sighing!
Xypher has one month in order to exact revenge on a Satara, the woman he stupidly thougth he loved and loved him in return. He learned the hard way she was only using him and his punishment is to spend all of eternity in Hades care being tortured. Xypher is hard, bitter and very angry. He's made even more so when he arrives in New Orleans to find himself bound to a little human named Simone with a Pollyanna complex. If he takes too many steps away from her they both die. Not that he cares after all she's just a human and she's going to die anyhow. But, something changes and it's not long before Simone teaches him that people can be kind to each other but will he learn to care enough for her to give up his revenge.
Simone is lonely, witha ghost to keep her company and a best friend that protects Dark-hunters. Yeah that's normal. She finds that life is what you make of it. Then one night she finds herself bound to one of the crabbiest, crankiest, handsome hottie she's ever set eyes on. One minute she wouldn't mind him taking a huge leap and the next she's finding things she likes about him. Now, she's his unwitting partner in his quests and just when she thinks she's never going to find the one persn she could love for a lifetime, she realizes she already has but he would rather have his revenge then be with her. What's a girl supposed to do?
Xypher is a wonderful hero. One minute you think he's horrid, the next you're rooting for his happy ending. Kenyon manages to incorporate many of the different legends and characters she's already introduced in past books in this one. This was a very good read, one I couldn't put down until it ended. I look forward to her next effort with eager anticipation!

Many others have told you about this story so I'll give you my review simply of the story. The book jumped leaps and bounds from the previous two Dream-Hunter novels. With Xypher's story we pick up more information about this infamous bad guy of the series and find out who he really is and how and why they had to kill him and send him to the Netherworld for torture by Hades for years. In a way a bit of it doesn't make since but I still went for the ride because in Ravyn's book Dark Side of the Moon that is when we are first introduced to him via his Dream Hunter name. In this story though we are told he has spent hundreds or thousands of years in Hell basically being tortured that little bit of the story didn't make sense since Satara used him in the book I mentioned with Ravyn although his appearance was brief she did make a point of saying something like 200?? So this book wouldn't technically be years away. One of my major issues with the current crop of Sherrilyn Kenyon books way back several volumes now is that the heroine has lost that bit of quirky goodness that I adored. She still has her patented sarchasm which is pretty smart but to have a heroine that is always basically perfect except for a few minor imperfections that most of us women yawn about and most now seem to know the martial arts which would be fine if the books weren't more about the men's story. When it's a Dark-Huntress/Dream-Huntress, etc it makes sense for her to be able to kick butt at along with her man.
I miss the old days of Bride who was a full figured woman, Sunshine who was basically the most forgetful and Grace who was so straighlaced. As I said, I did like this book I won't take away that from it. Simone was pretty good she had a bit of her own history and had a great job to work from as a forensic scientist, but she was still kind of cookie cutter with the big secret that seemed a little contrived and easy answer for the situation.
Xypher however was so worth my staying up all night to finish this book. His story was tragic and although a bit rushed was well worth any yawning I might have done which wasn't much after the last two books. And it was all made up for with the introduction of some new characters along with some information to further the series.
I hope that Sherrilyn Kenyon continues her uphill climb with this book and continues to bring us rich stories that compell us beyond reason to read them. This book does give me hope and I like so many others look forward to Acheron's story only hoping she doesn't easy out it with Artemis as his heroine or another perfect female lead.

Over the last couple of years, I've been dissapointed with the offering of Sherrilyn, however I really enjoyed this story. It was well written and had a few surprises. I enjoyed getting a different prespective on the Demons, their lives and what makes them tick. It was really funny how Demons are living right under the nose of humans. Sim, was funny and a wonderful person who deeply touched Xyper, making him feel things, he had never felt before. It was also since to see some old friends again in Lisa, Tate, not to mention Katra (whose story I so enjoyed) and the beloved Ash. Good job. Additionally, this story had a small chapter of Ash's story. This was a delightful read.

Sherrilyn Kenyon did a GREAT JOB on this book! Xypher is such an angry Scotos when he is given the chance to redeem himself in this book because of what he did to help in the book with Sin and Katra "Devil May Cry". He only has 30 days though to prove his humanity. The book has twists and turns you wouldn't believe. It introduces new players, and says Hello to some old. Simone is a medical examiner that lives and works in New Orleans "are favorite place for Sherri's novels" where she meets Xypher. She and her ghost Jesse. Yes she has a ghost, you'll have to read the book to get the great scoop. When she is attacked by Damions and Xypher saves her. This Story was Wonderful the best in this series so far

Xypher and Simone had me laughing out loud at various points of the book. I bought the audio version. The dialogue was funny, witty and just great. Xypher started out as all pissed off (understandably), but I loved that as the story progressed, he started to change. There were some twists in the story that I really didn't expect (and I LOVE that!). I've been in love with Sherrilyn Kenyon's hunters for a really long time and they continue to peak my interest. That woman can WRITE!!! Keep it up, Ms. Kenyon.

I wasn't crazy about the first dream hunter novel, and I didn't even bother with the second one with all the crummy reviews. I waited to see what the reviews were like on this one before I bought it and it was worth the wait. I love heroes that are kind of angry and cranky and don't want love in their life and then along comes the heroine and changes his mind....*sigh*. My only complaint is that he does a 180 degree turn in his personality in one page and I think it would have been better to gradually soften him up. You can skip the first 2 dream hunter novels and go straight to this one. Can't wait for Acheron's story.

Xypher has one chance to seek his revenge. It's all he can think of, until fate dumps him in Simone Dubois life. Simone is used to her life being a little strange. After all, she's lived with a ghost who's her best friend for years. But even she's not ready to be tied-to-the-hip of a revenge seeking Dream-Hunter.
A fast paced read that keeps you jumping even as it touches your heart. Kenyon shines.

I'm addicted to the Dark Hunter books and all the accompanying off-shoots. I don't feel like the latest books are stand alone novels, but are more like chapters in a saga. If you haven't read the other books in the series, do not start with this one. Begin at the beginning!
I loved the new character of Jaden and look forward to reading more about him in the future.
Dream Chaser did seem to end with less wrap up than usual (and less sex), but I did enjoy the twists in the end. I had figured other things out earlier in the story, but the ending did hold surprises!

This was the first book I've picked up by this writer. Xypher & Simone are thrown together when the one who betrayed him has them "cuffed"--they cannot become too distanced from each other, and if one dies, so does the other.
I think the story was a good one, the characters were actually pretty likeable, and I laughed out loud several times at the comments and insults they threw back and forth at each other. Her writing is good, and I didn't get distracted by bad grammar, and subject jumps. She seemed to move smoothly from one place to another.
I had several issues with this book:
1. I don't think it's a stand alone book. I felt like a lot of the names that were thrown around were from previous works of hers and I was lost as to who they were. Perhaps this is one of those series that must be read in order.
2. I felt like I needed to bone up on my ancient mythology, too. I can remember some names from school, but she threw around a lot of obscure gods/goddesses and I had to look some up.
3. The sexual tension between these two didn't build up until after they'd had sex. There was a reference or two about how hot he was, or she was cute for a human, but he didn't have time; but there was nothing with "teeth". I do have to say, that when I read a book that's this far out in the paranormal, I want a little more explicit sex scenes, and a little more in depth, too, but I didn't find them here.
4. For a "demi-god" as old as Xyther was, it took him very little time - I think it was mentioned that it was less than 2 weeks, to become so enamored with Simone that he was willing to sacrifice himself and his vengeance to keep her safe. It was just a little too pat for me.
5. The climactic moment where he confronts the one who betrayed him - and to show how much the name stuck with me, I can't remember it (and the book is not here) - was, well, quite anti-climactic. She has spent the whole book sending demons out to kill him, he has spent the whole book talking about his vengeance, and then, *poof*, it's solved. I think in about 1 page, no less.
Okay - that really sounds like I hated it, but to be truthful, it wasn't the worst book I've ever read. I liked it enough that I'll try to find the others in the series, do a little back reading and see if I can understand what's going on. I'm not sure I would pay full cover price for this (I got it at the grocery store for $3.00 off), but I'll see how the others stack up.

I had waited anxiously for Xypher's story but was worried because the first two Dream-Hunter books were disappointing. But Sherrilyn Kenyon did a wonderful job with Dream Chaser. I just couldn't put it down. Many of my favorite characters made an appearance in this book and several new ones were introduced. I enjoy the world that Sherrilyn Kenyon has created and how she has weaved all these characters into it. It may not always work perfectly but this time, it did. Got to admit, I can't wait for Acheron's book and there is a sneak peek at the end of Dream Chaser.

This is the first Sherrilyn Kenyon book I ever read and I've got to say that I loved it! After finishing this one I went on to read Night Play and Devil May Cry and am now working on Seize the Night, all of which I've loved. I've also purchased several more of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books to read when I'm done with this one. Her characters are just wonderful and it doesn't hurt that the men are dreamy! Dream Chaser's Xypher is definitely one of my favorites, he's sexy, smart and quick witted... oh, and did I mention SEXY!?

I agree, S Kenyon's writing style can be a little repetitive fairly often (How many times can someone "sear", "burn" or "scorch" someone else with their eyes? She also seems to like to write "Point Taken" a lot.)
[Spoiler-ish]
AAannnyway - Zephyr and Simone were probably the most interesting of her characters so far. It did end rather abruptly, which means, I hope, that they will be revisited again. The thing that I liked the most about Zephyr is that at the end of the story, his personality stayed the same.
In Seize the Night, Wren Tigerian starts off as a very soft spoken Katagari, at the end of it he speaks about all the homes he owns... When did he care about that? He knows about a mansion on sale in New Orleans and speaks about getting his realtor or accountant about buying it like he actually cared about that... Really?
Zephyr remained Zephyr - although with a happy ending like all of her other stories.

I definitely though SK got back on track with this one. I wanted to like Xypher in Devil May Cry and now love him. After 2 dreadful Dream Hunter books before, I had really low hopes for this one. But I ended up liking the characters and was rooting for them. Again, quick ending with a big red bow, but that is what I have come to expect as well. Next stop, Acheron....I can't wait!

I love SLK she is such a great author. This is a great book it was written well, but if this is the first read ever of this or the Dark Hunter series you WILL be utterly lost. My suggestion is to read the first Dream Hunter novel at the very least to get a feel for her style. If you like that one start with the Dark Hunter Series. It will make a lot more sense if you understand all the characters from the other books.
I own EVERY SINGLE ONE of this series and will keep them for re-reads. It's that good.

OK- let me start by saying I LOVE all of the Dream/Dark/Were Hunter books and I have read them all and liked almost all of them. However I was a little let down by this one- most likely because it was so fabulous until the very end when it just...ended. Iunderstand that some storylines are always left open in these books- but they usually belong to others not the main couple. This one (without giving too much away) ended with what I though of as real questions about the relationship unanswered. i got the feeling that either Kenyon reached the required number of pages and turned it in, or there is something big in store for us which occurs on the heels of this story's timeline- I hope it is the latter!

I really liked this book. I was looking for something new to read ( I usually go for the historical romances) and saw this book at Walmart. I read the back, it sounded interesting, so I picked it up. Now I've read that a lot of people don't like the Dream Hunters (which sucks for them since that is the new arc of SK's books), but after reading this book, I was drawn into her world. It is the reason that I started reading the whole series.
I loved Xypher. He was intense and extremely sexy! I think that people should give the Dream Hunters a chance. I know that the other two were pretty bad books, but from Dream Chaser on, the Dream Hunter series has only gotten better!

Hades doesn't often give second chances but because of an agreement made with an immortal goddess Xypher has one month on Earth to redeem himself through one good deed or be condemned to eternal torture in Tarturus. His goal during this month was to exact vengance on his former wife, regardless of the consequences. Returing to Tarturus was clearly not an issue. In the pursuit of this objective Xypher meets Simone Dubois (medical examiner) who derails both his plan and his heart. Simone is the partner he never thought he would find and the woman who made him makes him realize that it's never too late for love . . . even for those who have been burned by it's destructive powers. I liked Xypher in DEVIL MAY CRY and I am thrilled to get his story. Do not miss it.

If you are a fan of the Dark Hunter Series then read this book as you will be familar with some of the characters from past books in Kenyon's series that appear in this book.
It was a fun read, nothing earth shattering or stupendous-- mind you but having read many of the Dark Hunter books this book was refreshing to read.

This book was better than her last few attempts (hence the 2 star, not 1 star review) but honestly...it was still a pretty bad story. Apparently, I'm in the minority with this conclusion. While I was reading this story, it just felt like I've read it before. And I realized that I had....the last several Kenyon books sounded EXACTLY like this story. This book was a real case of same old, same old...For example:
1)Same old "teenagers in a mall" language - ex. Jesse - Grody to the max. Gag me with a spoon. I've seen you in the mornings. Huh?
2)Same old "tired" plot - Tortured hero meets do-gooder heroine. Do gooder heroine just wants to show tortured hero that there is someone out there who cares about him. And that someone is her. - How many stories did Sherrilyn use this plot in? Unfortunately, too many to count.
Same old "gorgeous" hero - I'm sorry, but is anyone else tired of seeing the same men (with different color hair and eyes) in her stories? Good Lord, can we have some average looking guys here? What about average looking and under 7 feet? Pretty please.
What else can I say? The romance between Xypher and Simone was just a little too, "Gift of the Magi." I kill myself to save your life, but you give up your soul to save mine? Plus, the ending was just a little too quick. The entire book was about him getting into Kalosis to deal with Satara. You know, the person who initially betrayed him, and sent him into hell in the first place.
Well, what does he do when he finally sees her? Make another deal with her and kills himself. Again. That's it. That's how he deals with the person he spent centuries hating. Why would he have thought she would have kept her word this time? She didn't the last time. The truth is, he would have NEVER trusted this woman again.
By ending this book with a whimper, instead of a bang solidified my previous thoughts about Sherrilyn's stories: I really need to get off the Sherrilyn Kenyon train.

Dream Chaser is the best of the three Dream Hunter books yet! It reads like the "old" SK, and it's a full length novel. Like many fans, I was disappointed with the Dream Hunters and wasn't sure if I wanted to read this one (especially since I was intrigued with Xypher and wanted him to have a good book). I am glad I gave this book a try; I really enjoyed it.

This was a really good book in a genre i usually do not read. It has intrigue and suspense and just enough romance. The constant referals to Gods and Godesses got confusing though but overall, a really good read. I enjoyed the humour between Xypher and Simone, and the constant sexual tension.

All I can say is this is a GREAT BOOK!!! A wonderful start to Jaden's Arc. I don't want to give to much details out, but recommend this book to anyone who's a fan of the great AG. Of course, it doesn't help if you read the books out of order. Xypher first appearance was in Devil May Cry and this is a continuation of his story. I'm also pretty sure we're going to see more of him in upcoming books, because the ending gives you that lead. =) For those who are Dark Hunter fans, pick up this book ASAP. It will answer lots of questions and OF COURSE lead to more unanswered ones.

I am a little bias when it comes to Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love every book I read of hers. I adore her work and loved, and i mean love Dream chaser it will live you breathless, each character is brought to life in a way that sometimes will make you wonder if you are watching a movie or reading a book.Sherrilyn creates characters that stay with you even after you finish the book. I think that if you love action, romance, and heroes a little dark, you will love Dream chaser. I know you will go back and become like me that I will pre-order any book she writes even without a review

I was starting to get a bit bored with this series. This book brought me back to loving the series again. I loved the couple and the story worked for me. Definitely one of my favorites in the entire series.

If your a Kenyon fan this book is a must have. Kenyons style of humor, imagery, and the great contrast of things aren't always what they seem creates a wonderful story that you will read over and over.

This novel kept me giggling and gasping for most of the night--and I enjoyed all the action. She carries us into a magical world that sets us up for the romantic side of the story but builds the action also. Excellent work overall.

I definitely recommend this book. Sherrilyn Kenyon has had some real ups and downs with her books of late, but this one is better than the last few. If you would like a full description of this book, please read the other reviews. I'm just letting the fans know that this book isn't such a let down as the past books have been. So with that said, enjoy yourself.

Ms. Kenyon's last few Dark-Hunter books have been less than stellar. After multiple bad reviews I avoided the previous Dream-Hunter books like the plague. Reviewers of this book said it was much better, so I decided to try again. Much to my surprise it was a good book. It actually reminded me of some of her earlier DH books and that is a REALLY good thing. Thank you Ms. Kenyon for an excellent addition to the DH world!

It was amazing book. It was amazing from the beginning to the end. It has the right amount of Suspense. Sex. Action.
Great description. Would read it again. Xypher is so sexy.
Kenyon is the best author of romance novels.
I would give the book 10 stars.
I give the ex-god Xypher four thumbs up!

Well, I am a huge Kenyon fan but I have to admit i was a bit disappointed in the former Dream Hunter books except for the Dark Hunter book, Devil May Cry. Because of the fact that I love the character in that book, I bought Dream Chaser. I am definitly glad I did and am curious to see what Jaden's story is. I think the key is not to start reading Dream Hunter books with the idea they are going to be a kick butt books like the Dark Hunters but as a different type of story completely.

I'm actually a huge fan of the Dark Hunter series. I just recently started reading the Dream Hunters to kill time until Acheron is released. I loved this book better than the first two Dream Hunter books. Even though the first two were nice reads, this one puts a different spin on the demons. My perception is totally different from that of when I read about them in the other books. If you want something different from the author, I recommend this book, but only if you are already familiar with the series.

Over the last year I've been seriously questioning why I keep buying the Whatever-Hunters books as they continue their downward slide into failed novel series that should have ended long ago when the author lost that creative spark. I absolutely hated the last one, but for some reason the overwhelming positive reviews lured me back in.
The only reason I can figure that this book has been getting such high praise is 1) the fence sitters have already left the building so there is no voice left to counter the super-fans who would give five stars to anything with Sherrilyn Kenyon's name on it 2) the book is only marginally better than the last four or five and people are just so happy to see any improvement that they are willing to grade it on the curve.
There is really nothing new or original that I can say about Dream Chaser that I and many other readers have not already said, multiple times, about the last half dozen novels. That's okay because the originality in this book has long left the station. In Dream Chaser, our two love birds are chained together via magical handcuffs and they must work together to stop the blood sucking demons haunting the streets of the Big Easy while exchanging canned action movie dialogue. The emo-boy hero whines constantly about how awful his life is because he had the bad judgment to fall in love with Cruella DeVille many centuries ago, and the heroine, whose spent her life running away from the magic mojo powers inside her, puts out out of pity. Then they realize that it must be love! In case you didn't key in on it, this book is a re-write of the very first Dark Hunter novel. If you read that then you've already read a superior version of this. Not only does it make Dream Chaser trite and unoriginal, but incredibly cynical too. Cynical that the author thought she could slip her recycling act by us, especially when it seems like she's doing her best to eliminate all but the hardest of the hard-core from her fan base. You know, the people that read the books so many times that the pages are falling out and should be most likely to spot the blatant similarities.
It felt like an absolute chore to read. Characters still feel like they are talking at one another rather than to one another, and everybody regardless of age still talks like a gum-snapping valley girl. Characterization is still as subtle as a brick to the face with anyone either being mawkishly virtuous or so evil that it isn't hard to imagine them biting the heads off of newborn kittens.
What else can I say? I've payed my dues as a loyal fan against my better judgment. I've withstood the increasingly amateurish prose, muddled unwieldy world building, terrible dialogue, and juvenile characterization for many book now and I'm finally ready to put this series to bed. Kenyon has cranked out at least five terrible book in the space of a year and that speaks of someone more concerned with quantity than quality. If the author doesn't care, then I certainly can't be bothered to.

After reading all the 5 and 4 star ratings, I figured this book would be worth reading. Unfortunately, it was not. Again, corny dialogue, same old characters with different names. Same happy ending, throw Acheron in for a little excitement, predictable love story and you have a Sherrilyn Kenyon book. I have read them all. Even her Bad series and this book was no better than the past several books. Trite, corny, and predictable. These books no longer thrill me.

Frankly I am surprised to see so many wonderful reviews for this book.
I was very happy with the series when they first came out but now I find all the new books that keep coming just boring and predicable.
Same story, same dialogue, same routine, nothing new.
Sorry, I am done with the series.

The concept of the Dark-hunter world was interesting in the beginning but, for me at least, I've gotten a bit soured on it. It tends to be the same stories with the same characters over and over again (hero has been brutally tortured, is attitudey and everyone spends their time insulting and bumping chests in a tarzan way). It would be nice if at least one of these guys had a friend. I'm also having a hard time with the whole mass of gods out there. I think they've kind of gotten away from her as she tries to find new angles. It's just all so much chaos and for me, several of the previous stories have gotten lost among all the bickering/backstabbing/i'm more powerful than you/I'd like to help but I"m serving two different gods/etc. Is there NO One in charge or at least a calm, impartial head in Kenyons world? I'd don't mind some conflict, but I need at least something or someone steady to balance it out. And please explain to me how a man can be trapped for a thousand years in hell, being tortured, and STILL not only knows, but can recite popular t.v shows and sayings?????
Okay, rantings over. As I said in the beginning, I was hesitant to even give this a try, but I'm glad I did. It was worth the money and hours of my time. If you're hesitant, rent it from the library.
