This book was boring and sophmoric.
I really wanted to like it but the characters were so one dimensional and the whole plot uninspired.
Quite disappointing. Chubby chicks just lost a reader.

Hate when I wasted my time with a ridiculous book. Even if it was free.
I can see why.

This book was not so bad, but I'm counting on the author getting a little stronger before I read her again. The opening chapter felt like a bunch of back story was dumped about her father's unsolved murder, but I gave it a chance as I could see that could consume the POV character's life. Then a bunch of characters were introduced from a bunch of different ethnic backgrounds, and I got the idea the author did this to keep from having to lock in a bunch of descriptions for us. Still, I was ready to give everything a chance, and the eccentricities of everyone was pretty fun. I've read several books set in Savannah, and none of those mysteries gave me the same Savannah as this book, so I kept reading. While I finished the book, I was a little disconcerted when the author got into the habit of writing pages and pages of dialogue. Now, granted, there are a lot of characters in this story, and even if each of them says only a few sentences each time, that's a considerable bit of dialogue. But the last half of the book really kind of read more dialogue script than novel with any narrative. Again, I think the author simply needs a bit more experience. I didn't hate the book or anything, so gave it three stars, but I'm not really ready to read this author again soon.

I found myself reading quickly just to get this book over with. It was silly without being funny. The ending was both predictable and not satisfying. I would have given it zero stars if that had been an option.
Brownies & Betrayal (Sweet Bites Mysteries - Book 1) :: An absolutely hilarious cozy mystery (The Chapelwick Mysteries) (Volume 1) :: An Althea Rose Mystery (The Althea Rose Series Book 1) :: Honeymoon Cottage (A Pajaro Bay Mystery Book 1) :: A Mother's Day Murder (Mt. Abrams Mysteries Book 1)

I finished the story, but it took me a while to do. I did not find the principals engaging. The clues in the crossword puzzles were a chilling and intriguing touch. One would think that a killer that clever would know proper grammar and would tell the intended target "YOU'RE NEXT" rather than the improper "YOUR NEXT," as it appeared in the book.

I may give another of her books a try. Perhaps I will like the next one better.

there were some good twists to the story to keep you guessing. I do not like the fact that the subplot was left unsolved. does it ever get solved? how many more books would a person need to buy to have the answers to the subplot? and would there be more unfinished subplots just to keep you buying books? I really don't like unfinished storylines. but I hate it when the author thinks he/she can trick you into buying more books

I had been looking forward to reading this one but it wasn't quite what I had hoped. It was a little simplistic. I did enjoy the characters for the most part and I will admit that she( the author) did catch me by surprise on the whodunit. I didn't care for the way she ended it. Maybe there is a follow-up? I'd be willing to give it a try. It was a very fast read.

This book wasn't the best I have read but definitely not the worst either. It wasn't memorable enough to write a good or a bad review about. This book is really just one of those books you would read if you wanted to kill time and not use any real brain cells while doing it.

But a short read. The novel had some fun bits, but was also quite disconnected. characters were introduced and never heard from again. The main mystery turned out not to be solved at this time another unrelated mystery was solved instead. Not certain I would read another of her novels as there seem to be so many better ones out there.

The book was well written and flowed well. The characters were well portrayed. I enjoyed reading this book but was a little disappointed that the story did not end here. The next parts are too expensive for a kindle so do not think that I can afford to buy them.

Principal characters carry the "lame brain" pose all the way to absurdity and back. Cosy? Not really. The Jose character was the most appealing of the main characters. His character might be given a larger role. Smarten up the main characters to make them more believable. Author has a handle on dialog.

This book has everything that makes for a great cozy mystery. The characters are well developed and very likeable. The plot is interesting enough to really pull you along.

This is the first in this particular series and I will definitely buy the rest!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I read at least a book a week and this one one of the best that I have read in quite awhile. The characters were fun, personable and endearing. The plot was unique. Lois Lavrisa is a talented author. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to be entertained and kept guessing.

I like these kinds of humorous, light hearted mysteries, and this one fits this category. But a couple of things turned me off, first I figured out the plot and suspect too soon and second there were some grammetical/typos/word switches in the novel that should have been caught. The later was really what makes me not want to read more of this series. I bought the kindle version so not sure if the paper copy is the same, but I think the author should check the editing. Overall, I liked the charecters but felt that some of the dialogues were somewhat repetitive. And not to spoil the story for anybody, but the mystery was solved in a day....really?

I was hoping for a fun read or at least a decent mystery, this was neither. The plot was very, very thin with clues being right in your face. I knew the ending less than halfway through the book. Overall, it wasn't really even worth the 99 cents that I paid for it. I couldn't recommend it to anyone.

First time reading a book by this author and I kept laughing out loud. her writing style really helps you visualize what is happening and the chubby chicks club get into some funny, sticky, not quite exactly legal situations.

As I am reading this book(and I am only on page 103), I can't help but wonder if this is Janet Evanovich using a pen name. Just seems like I have read parts of this book before and know some of the characters. If I remember, I will update when I am finished the book

I really hoped to like this book. Great title. But if you're hoping for a bit of Stephanie Plum & Lula, you will be disappointed. I hope the author can make these characters really breathe in the future. She's trying, but still has a bit to go.

This was easy to read, read it in one day could not put it down.
The characters were fun and interesting, they each had their own personality.
This is the kind of book to read on a rainy afternoon.

this book actually had two mysteries. One is solved and the other left hanging. It is unclear if the second one is addressed in the next book but I didn't love this one enough to purchase the next one. still pretty good for a free selection.

Really??!! A club of women who solve crimes?? An inept investigator who stumbles around with an overweight black sidekick?? Except this book is not funny or clever, the plot is thin and the murderer is obvious Don't waste your time.

For the price it's ok however the writing is pretty amateurish. The storyline is simple. The characters are not well developed or particularly likeable. The plot was ok but the end was obvious. This book is ok if you don't Wang anything too deep

I always love free books! These books offer good entertainment and are easily acquired. They are delivered directly to my I-pad reader and stored there until the cloud runs out of room! Then I don't know how to remove them!

Good light read but disappointing as the main crime was never solved and the secondary crime was obvious from the beginning.
This is good for someone wanting something simple to read as it can be finished in 3 or 4 hours. I read is on a cross Atlantic trip between movies.

Nice book but when it ended I felt like there was still some book missing. Had a good build up but perhaps not enough development once the build up was done. Very short and good for a trip or a short time filler.

Painful. The editing is weak. Typos and grammatical errors abound. However the worst part is that the characters aren't endearing. They're simply dumb. The author includes so much extraneous information and dialogue it's....yes...painful.

I chose this rating because I didn't really care for the book - it did have a little humor in places but overall, the characters had no depth, the plot started out interesting but then just got out of hand and the ending left me feeling puzzled. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what happened.

Too cute, too obvious, too scattered. I'd like more mystery and less meaningless chatter between characters. Nothing unexpected happens. Take out a few words and this would be suitable for adolescent girls.

This book was decent, but a little too fluffy for my taste. The character were a little older (40+). This is not a criticism, just a fact. I thought the characters could have been developed a little more. It was a fast, easy read, but I'm not sure it interested me enough to continue with the series.

I normally don't write reviews. I don't want to judge the work of other people. But this one got on my nerves. A close friend just died and they exchange wisecracks while the corpse is still warm in the next room. Hello! A little respect, please... Two female characters were trying too hard at a pitiful imitation of Stephanie Plum and Lula, and doing a lousy job of it.... I've read hundreds of books. I've plowed through even bad ones, just because a writer labored to write the story.... But i couldn't stomach this. This was the first and only book i did not bother to finish...

Sorry, but this was not a book for a person that is used to reading "good books". I really didn't want to review this as I have nothing good to say about it. I had to skim it to get through it (I never quit a book before the end).

I am so sorry I purchased this book, it was a waste of money. This is so badly written I had to write a review so others would not pay for it. The story is trying to copy the many other books about women bungling into a murder and then having all sorts of incidents that they survive through. However, this one is particularly unbelievable in that these two untrained women manage to solve it in one day. A teenager could have written a better story.

I purchased this kindle book because it sounded like something I enjoy reading and it was Free on Book Bub. I have purchased many books and I haven't had time to read them all yet and this is one that I have not read yet (hence just an okay rating). When I get around to reading it, I will try to remember to come back and update my post.

Labor Day might be past us, but the weather's still warm. If you plan to take a quick trip to the beach or the pool, take this book along on your Kindle. I enjoyed the characters in this book, and the mystery had me guessing the whole time. Lois Lavrisa blends just the right combination of humor, sentiment, and clever detective work in this cozy mystery about four good friends in Savannah. I'm glad to see this is the first book in a series because I want to read more.
