I felt let down with Kane and Amber's story!! Amber was a 25yr old Pacifist, Vegan living in a Commune, but at times she came across as a silly young girl. It would have been better to make her 20 or 21 yrs. old. I didn't like her destroying Kane's Lab where he was working so hard to find a cure to the virus 27, that wasn't funny to me!! Kane was a bit disappointing to; for him tolerating her dumb behavior. I couldn't believe that Oscar one of the Dage's senior warriors hit King Dage and not get put down, it didn't make sense you don't hit a King. The worst part of the book for me was my Beloved Jase. Page after Page of descriptive torture. Jase's torture was horrific and very descriptive, the story tipped over from Paranormal to Horror. Zanetti needs to be careful not to keep crossing this line. Their is a very thin line between Horror Suspense and Paranormal Romance and she crossed this line for me. I did like Amber's grandmother and her relationship with Oscar that was a good side story. Our Janie is all grown up and the who will she choose Zane or Kalin?? story still going strong Of course I want Zane. I hope when RZ gets to Jase's story he is mated to Brenna, I just love these two together. I wish RZ would give more victories in her stories to the Good Guys. The whole 4 yrs of torture of Jase was just to much. Why can't the good guys torture the bad guys for a change!! Lets capture Willa the Demon and torture her or her brother Suri. I hate reading brutality on women but Willa deserves it plus she a Demon. Overall the story was OK lots of action and very Hot Love scenes between Kane and Amber.

If you haven't started reading this series why not? If you are after a paranormal romance series that has a great plot, awesome characters, action, drama and romance, with some steamy scenes thrown into the mix, then look no further.
Rebecca has created a world within our world and made it very realistic with characters you just fall in love with and a story that will leave you wanting more. I can't wait for the next book.

I was soooo anxious for Kane's story to come out! I really enjoy his character, and I wanted to see what kind of passion lurked beneath that cool, logical exterior. Kane is a different alpha than his brothers - not nearly as hot-tempered. Control is his thing - always calculating, assessing the risks. Zanetti brings that out well in his character; Kane tries to find the logic in his relationship with Amber, plus the logical way to use her powers to fight the demons, even as he's falling in love with her.

However, I felt like Kane was given short shrift. This book is shorter than the others by about 100 pages, and I feel the author could have really used that time to develop Kane and Amber's relationship further. I loved the progression in the story arc for Janie, Zane and Kalin, but it came at the expense of Kane and Amber's story. Kane came to the realization that he loved Amber just a little *too* quickly, like within a couple of paragraphs near the end. Then, when he decided to let his Alpha-ness loose for good, it wasn't nearly as gripping a scene as usual for the brothers. And Amber was never in mortal danger without Kane by her side, or had to face the enemy alone while waiting to be rescued/escaping. I know these books tend to be formulaic, but I *like* the formula.

All in all, a good read, great story arc progression for all the characters. Just wish it was longer, and didn't feel like the author was just checking Kane off the list in order to get to the next brother, or to Janie/Zane/Kalin. Still can't wait for the next one, though!!!

I liked this book a lot but I thought was going to be more confused about falling in love because he is such a strong believer in science. He only believes in what he can prove and I wanted her to play with the contradiction between science and love.

I discovered this series when Max's story was a freebie. It hooked me right in. It took a couple months for me to catch up in the series but now I wait VERY impatiently for the next books to come out. I LOVE all if the books in this series but I have to say that Kane is my favorite brother after this. Although I am waiting on Jase to get his own book. This is one of my favorite Authors because she knows how to write a GREAT story and stay true to her characters in each book.

i enjoyed this book. I love how she brings all the characters back from the previous series, that's whats makes it a series. You have to read the first books to understand whats going on. I hate when authors call it a series and they never mention the previous characters. This book is about Zane the smart brother I really enjoyed him, I cant wait until the next book.

At the end of the day this series is about love, family and justice and yet what a wonderful display of words about an incredible world inhabited by equally incredible people we are subjected to as we travel the path towards this simple truth. How feisty are the women? How sexy and alluring are these men who love with such intensity and devotion, and also with humour and geniune warmth? Kane is no less appealing than his brothers and his refusal to admit his love frustrating and yet understandable, his world is forever. His vegan pacifist is so likeable as are all the other characters who live and love in this series but it is Janie that is stealing the limelight so slowly that keeps us on track for the next episode. I can't wait for the next book and I know it will be well written, sexy as hell and total entertainment.

I love this series. I love that the characters are the same for the most part. I cannot wait for the next story to come out. Kane has met his match in Amber. Kind of interesting that she is a pacifist. Her grandmother is a hoot.

If you have read Rebecca's other books than this is a must as well. Kane nearly drove me mad, he needed to get with the program. The ending left me hanging and wanting more. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

3.5 stars. I love this series. Loved the world Rebecca has created for us. Out of all the mates, Amber is my least favorite. I think Rebecca was shooting for feisty like Moira, but I was only annoyed. I almost stopped reading several times. Found myself wandering when Amber was going on and on about her nonsense. I wish she had not found such an insecure woman to mate Kane. Smartest man on the planet. Amber really didn't try to understand him. He carried the weight of everyone. Being an empath, he had learned early on in his life that he had to shut off his emotions to do his job. Instead of trying to show Kane he could also have love in his life, she pouted, whined about water bottles and furniture and her lack of education. None of which was his fault. Amber made it seem like Kane was deficient in some way. Quite annoying. He just didn't understand these feelings because he had blocked them for hundreds of years. I also did not like that everyone sided with Amber so quickly. Dage tried to explain his brother to Amber, but then pointed out Kane didn't know everything. True, but because of Kane's logic, they've survived many battles. I was quite disappointed in this pick. Kane deserved better. Maybe a more confident Amber. Not necessarily a genius, just confident enough in herself, to stand with him. Amber should have been angrier with her grandmother for deceiving her her entire life, instead of blaming Kane for everything. Don't get me wrong, I did like seeing this side of Kane. His vulnerability. It as tough for him, but good to see. He was opening up his emotions a little. He was great with his Janie and Garret. And Jordan's adorable twins Samantha and Sydney.

It was hard to read about Jase. This book was a little darker than the others for me. The demons are evil. Maybe worse than the Kurjans. I think Janie may have stepped into it. She's come a long way from the little girl in Fated. Still keeping secrets, which I thought she would have grown out of. It seems like she's caught between the little girl she was and the 21 year old she is. Can't wait for her story with Zane. The timeline for the series is flying by. I suspect it's because we're trying to get to Zane, Kalin and Janie. It still feels very rushed. Like opportunities have been missed in the story.

Also, the series could do with a bit of editing. Every book had editing issues. In this book, I noticed it mentioned that Amber's shirt was ripped open, when she was wearing a sweat shirt. After she and Kane made love it said she pulled on her sweatshirt. Annoying. It really didn't mess with the flow of the book, Amber actually did that for me, but I think it's important. I highly recommend this series.

My least favorite of this series so far. Character development for Kane was adequate but the most that the reader understands about the heroine is in side comments from other characters. There is little romance involved, much more manipulation, with the end explained that Kane has loved Amber all along and Amber hasn't felt bad about Kane / his actions / his betrayals at all because she luuuuves him. And he's the hero of the story, right? At this point, from the benefit of reading this series back-to-back I easily see how the writer loses her way at times and appears to be caught up in trying to lead the readers versus having the characters live out the tale. And there are some serious missing pieces. So two stars and I wouldn't reread this.

I'm so glad I came back to this series. I love Rebecca Zanetti heroes. They are #AbsoluteAlphas #PureAlphas and I need more like this. So damn good. Loved everything. I usually get frustrated when the hero denies his feelings for a while. But see love is more than words. It's a VERB and he absolutely showed love so many ways. The protection and possession is just my favorite thing. I love when men are men.. Give me more!

Oh all the cameos were adorable and of course sweet Janie, her story with Zane is going to make my kindle incinerate. I just can't wait.

I received this as a freebie at RT15.

I haven't read the other books in this series, but I didn't have any trouble understanding the world building. Vampires are just like us only they very occasionally drink blood and have life mates like werewolves. The men are very domineering and aren't above lying to fool their love interest into doing what they want. There's a war going on and the youngest brother is a POW. I really like Rebecca Zanetti, but this book just left me feeling meh about it.

There were two problems for me. The first is that the heroine, Amber, has an ancient VW bug and has to drive it through the middle of nowhere to get home, but she doesn't have a cellphone. This book was written in 2012 and cheap burner phones for emergencies are available for everyone so there is no excuse for someone with a junker not to have a phone. In fact, the only cellphones appear to be owned by the vampires. Naturally, the first thing that happens is that Amber's car is sabotaged by bad guys and she can't call for help.

The second problem relates to the hero, Kane, who is the analytical scientist brother of the vampire royal family. He is responsible to many of the technological and medical advances. Kane can read the emotions of others and even project emotions onto them to some degree. He rejects emotion for himself so Kane only uses his power when he absolutely has to. Not super surprisingly the romantic tension is that Kane refuses to admit the emotion of love exists. I had a problem with this because all around him are loving couples (this is book five, after all). All Kane has to do is read one person to find out the truth. Kane is a scientist and since he trusts his power, you could consider this empirical evidence. He wouldn't be invading anyone's privacy since his brothers are all trying to tell him he's already in love with Amber and would be happy to help.

You will love this book if you like domineering heroes, plucky heroines, and aren't too fussed about a few plot holes. Rebecca Zanetti's writing is always good with just the right balance of emotion and she stays far away from angsty, whiney MCs. In addition, there is plenty of action and the world building includes more than the spot the characters are standing on.

A casualty of the war between the demons and the vampires, Jase Kayrs has been missing for six long years. His older brothers want answers—but they’re going to have to get them from an unlikely source. For when Kane Kayrs tracks down Amber Freebird, what he finds is a blonde, vegan pacifist who has no intention of using her skills in his war…

A TIME FOR LOVE…

Amber enjoys her life of chaotic freedom and has no intention of falling in line just because a sexy-as-sin vampire insists on order. Unfortunately, he discovers she may be the only hope they have of finding his brother, and there’s no way he’s going to let her go—even if it means mating her to gain her cooperation. The two are as different as can be, yet when the dominant Kane and the untamed Amber finally unite to rescue Jase, they just may find that opposites really do attract…

Review
Provoked, Perfect title for this book...Provoked into War, Provoked to love, Provoked to fight, all these things come to play in this book.

This is the first book in the series that I have read and while it could be a stand-alone book, I think I really missed some great back story/references by having not read the rest of the series first because there is a lot going on in this book. It is great paranormal romance and fully intend to read the rest of the books.

I love when opposites attract and that is definitely the case in this. I love Amber she is a free-spirit, fun, feisty, a vegan, strong and a Demon Destroyer. Yep, a little wisp of a thing is the one thing that can help the in the war between the Vampires and the Demons. Now Kane, the hero, is the strong warrior alpha type, but he is also a scientist. From the moment Kane goes looking for the Demon Slayer and finds it is Amber they really have the instant chemistry but it is the love/hate kind. She has been sheltered all her life from what she truly is and has a hard time coming to terms with everything thrown at her. She wants Kane and the intimate scenes between them are hot, but Kane wants her to mate with him (which for them is for life) to help secure her power. Of course, Amber says no...smart girl with a proposition like that who would say yes...lol Poor Kane though really does fall hard for the girl and they do work out their insecurities and misunderstandings. These are two very likable characters that I think anyone could relate to.

The book does bring in other characters, who I assume have been in the other books, but they look like they will be getting their own stories soon enough.

There is this whole interesting looking triangle between Janie, Kalin and Zane. I don't know the whole back story on these three, but what I have read....there is a whole lot of heat going to be going on when their book comes out.

And poor Jase the youngest brother has been tortured and held captive by Demons for four years. He is on his last thread of sanity/humanity when he rescued at the end of this book. He just deserves his own book to get his own HEA.

Great book, great action, great suspense and great romance!

Finally catching up on one of my favorite vampire series! I just happened to stumble across the Dark Protectors series a year or so ago and absolutely fell in love! The world is so developed and I really want to know everything about all of the characters. Ms. Zanetti is a wonderful writer and brings so much passion and depth into her books. I have to admit besides Janie's story, Kane's is the one story I could not wait to read. I love that he is so intellectual and he bares the weight of the world on his shoulders. I wanted to meet the woman who was going to help him through the war they are facing and the disappearance of his brother, Jase.

I was so surprised by the choice for Kane's heroine, I was thinking someone more like Emma or strong willed like Cara. But, after the first few pages I knew that Amber was the perfect fit for Kane. She is almost his complete opposite and tilts his world on end. As a pacifist, Amber is against all of the violence that inherently comes of Kane Kayrs' world, but she must learn to fight in order to save her grandmother. It was a little oxymoronic that she is a demon destroyer, and one of few who can protect the vampires against psychic attacks. The development of Amber's powers was quite fun to watch, I loved that she never gave in and stood by her principles and what she believed in. So far in the series I think Amber has come out the most kick ass heroine yet. She may not be as book smart as Kane but she matches his intellect in every way that matters. All of the heroines have had to cope with their mates being uber overprotective, and while Amber does her fair share of coping she also refuses to be anything but Kane's equal.

Kane, being an intellect and having experienced more heartbreak than any one person should, does not believe in love. The silly man protecting Amber from demons with passion pouring from him, doesn't believe in love? Well, with Amber's headstrong tendencies you can bet that did not last long :) Although I will give Kane a break, the whole time he's pretending to not fall in love he is also trying to find and save his brother Jase. Kane has never depended on anyone, he has always been the level headed brother. But with all of that responsibility Kane is on the brink of losing his sanity. Enter Amber. She makes him lose control of his passion, yet helps him gain control of the world around him. She is his perfect match but, she also brings out his darker, more intense side that I love to seen in any alpha.

Provoked holds a great balance of suspense, action and romance. It all blends well together, and I could tell it was not one of those books where the author throws fight scenes and love scenes into any nook and cranny they can fit them into. She tends to be very calculated where her scenes are concerned. I love that Rebecca Zanetti creates her own species in this paranormal world, there are vampires and werewolves, but also shifters and Kurjans. This is an ongoing series and should be read in order, the books revolve around the war between Vampires/Shifters and Kurjans/Demons and at the very middle are Kalin, Janie and Zane. While quite young at the beginning of the series, these three will eventually decide the fate of the world, and I for one cannot wait for that book! It has been building since the very beginning and I get more excited with every hero/heroine that finds their mate. Make sure to check out this series, it is by far on the top of my paranormal favorites list! Twisted (#5.5) is already out and you can expect Shadowed out on October 3rd!

Happy Reading!

Summary
Amber is content with her quiet and sane life, living with her grandmother, and taking care of their land, and being pro earth. But when her grandmother gets injured in an accident, she finds a job as a waitress to pay for medical bills, and a man walks in and watches her for five long hours. Amber has no idea who this stranger is, gorgeous and quite a strong attraction, but she doesn’t know what his deal is, and is forced to kick him out at closing time. As she leaves for home, she gets kidnapped by two men that want to force her and her grandmother to sell their land and will do anything to make sure she cooperates. Through a turn of events she is being rescued.taken by her mysterious stranger, who drags her into a world of vampires, witches and demons and much more, her head is spinning, and when he tells her that she is the “destroyer of demons” she thinks he belongs in an asylum for the mentally insane. He must be crazy, because that could never be her. But Amber is about to face some truths about herself, that her grandmother kept from her, and dragged into a world of danger and passion she isn’t sure she is ready for but will do anything to protect those she loves…

The Hero
Our hero, Kane, is the logical and whiz of the Kayrs brothers. He has about a hundred degrees, and his favorite pastime is spending it in his lab and working on formulas to aid his people. But lately he has been on the hunt for his youngest, carefree brother Jace. A brother who is the most jovial of the bunch, has been held in captivity by the demons for four long years, and every time they find a clue to his location…they end up at a dead-end, but he knows the “destroyer of demons” is his last hope to finding his brother, and he will sacrifice anything for him. But he isn’t ready for the feelings that Amber evokes in him, he never thought himself capable of love, until he mates Amber and his world tilts on its axis and changes forever. What I loved about Kane is his logical brain…he is one smart geek here, loves his experiments and his lab, which he guards with his life. He is the least emotional of the brothers, and I enjoyed seeing him go a bit down under with emotions upon meeting Amber. Quite one of the highest highlights of the story was seeing Kane try to work everything out in a practical scientific way…but when it comes to love there is nothing practical about it.

The Heroine
Our heroine was quite fun and so far off kilter from what I was expecting…I have never met a heroine like her before. And I have read quite a bit, but she was such a unique character that added a bit more freshness to the book and the series as well. Amber is obsessed with saving the “earth”, she is pro green, save the environment, eat tofu and veggies…and hates meat, and refuses to be friends with anyone that has real leather or fur rugs in their homes. Despite all that (which I am all for the environment…but I do love my protein so I am not sure how well we would get along in real life) she was quite a hoot. Some of her actions are quite hilarious and crazy and I just loved her even more for her pranks especially (Spoiler: the scene where his lab gets a bit worked over by Amber…and boy does he get mad and what lovely payback too.

Plot and Story Line
Provoked is the fifth installment, and I was very impressed with this story. Of course I always know I will have a jolly good time with Rebecca Zanetti being the author. But this is such a wonderful paranormal series, and she creates a world of not just vampires, but witches and demons and her world building is quite astounding at times, as I have progressed in the series, you start to see certain pieces fall into place. We also see what Jace is going through with the demons, and oh my heart aches for this playful brother. I really loved seeing his strength and determination to survive but the demons are definitely putting him through hell, and it was difficult at times to read those scenes instead of skimming, but since his book is next, I knew I should read them,,,,but not easy be forewarned. But what was most fun was the romance that builds between Amber and Kane. Now Amber is all about love and flowers…she won’t mate Kane without his heart. Now Kane wants a mating and views it in a practical way…like a arranged marriage, where both parties get something in return. He refuses to let love in, but sometimes you don’t have a choice. I love the way we see that change in Kane, Another aspect that makes Provoked even better…is the action and adventure…and the search for Jace. It is the edge of your seat thrilling, and the pace is quite engaging. A must read for paranormal lovers….who love a good mix of danger and love.

The Cover
Not my favorite cover of the series…but oh boy look at those delicious abs, and I do adore the background setting, with the dark hues of orange and black….adds a hint of danger and supsense…makes me want to go on a walk through those woods with a sexy vampire of my own.

Overall View
Provoked is another fantastic installment that this author has created for us. A tale that has an edge of passion and danger, a story of fighting for those you love and never giving up on them…no matter how bleak the circumstances seem. A fast paced, thrilling romance….A PAGE TURNER TO EXCITE!!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Mich M:

We rejoin the Kayrs brothers four years after the events in Consumed.

Kane is the midddle Kayrs brother and he's always seemed very straight laced, he's a scientist and if he can't measure something in a lab then it doesn't exist. However he is a Kayrs afterall and that means he is a trained warrior, his idea of fun is to hunt down werewolves. When Kane is charged with finding the Demon Destroyer there is a lot at stake. His baby brother, Jase was captured by the demons almost four years prior and has been tortured daily, they have no idea if they will find him alive or if his mind will survive. They need the Demon Destroyer's help to save him from captivity. When Kane finally tracks the Demon Destroyer down she is nothing like what he expected.

Amber is nearing the end of her shift at the bar when she feels someone watching her, she fels an instant attraction to the stranger but when he opens his mouth and starts talking about vampires and demons she thinks he belongs in the loony bin.

Can Kane win Amber's trust? Can the fiesty Amber get Kane to loosen up an believe in the unmeasurable?

I thorughly enjoyed this book, I loved seeing Kane so out of sorts when faced with Amber. She was perfect for him. My heart broke for Jase, he's been the Kayrs brother that has intrigued me from the start, I can't wait to get to know him better. The triangle between Janie, Kalin & Zane is really starting to get interesting. Now that Janie isn't a litte girl anymore. Their story is what the whole series is building for and it's going to be epic.

LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer gives Provoked 5 Skulls.

Another time jump in this story and you can feel the author setting thing up to end the series. Kinda nice to have the warning instead of out of the blue like some other series. I like the way things are going with the mates and world, well not the war, but I have hopes that things will end in a satisfying manner for this series.

This was Kane’s book and he was paired up with a new face for his H.E.A. I liked Amber, she was a bit annoying at times, but I think that lead to some of her charm as twisted as that may seem. Kane was the odd man out when it came to the brothers and he needed to have a special girl for him to bond with. I think that there will be years of angst in store for this couple, but I’m sure they will thoroughly enjoy the making up.

Kane might have been a different kind of alpha male from the other books. More in control and analytical then the others, but I liked him. His character was well written and quite complex, despite his fairly straight-forward nature and behaviors. I would have liked to have a better explanation and example of his powers, but that might have happen in earlier books and I’ve forgotten.

Janie continues to come into her powers and is now starting to manipulate the meetings with Zane and Kalin, she has finally figured out how to control and draw them out. Of course this may come back to bite her on the ass, either way it should be fun to watch. I am really looking forward to getting to know the mysterious Zane more.

We also got to catch a glimpse of life for some of the previous mate pairs from past books. It was sweet to see how they all welcomes Amber to their little clan and stood up for her to Kane when he couldn’t get his head out of his ass and come to grips with how he really felt for Amber. Payback is going to be a bitch for all the mates when Kane decides to get his payback. Thank goodness thought he came around and I think Amber and him are going to be quite happy, if they don’t drive each other nuts that is.

Like I said the series is starting to wind down, but there are still plenty of plot threads that need to be tied up and I look forward to seeing what Ms. Zanetti does with this world.

Kane is the smartest vampire in the world, and yet he has not been able to find a cure for the virus. Four years later than the last book, the major bad news is his brother, Jase, is still missing. Depending on the book, Jase is gone for 4, 5, or 6 years, being horribly tortured by demons. The key to saving him is Amber, another enhanced human who has no clue of her abilities. Her family is dead, she has been raised by a grandmother who tells her nothing of her history, esp. the necessity of saying daily "prayers" which keep the evil guys from sensing her. As smart as Kane is, he has no idea Amber is clueless, but this does not prevent him from mating with her - without providing her with the details of what that will mean to her, and acting just as arrogant as his brothers, he wants, he takes, and she better accept it - no, LOVE it, acceptance is not sufficient. Amber's lack of education is frequently mentioned, she is portrayed as an idiot - I found nothing humorous in her destruction of sensitive scientific equipment and records by letting animals loose to do the damage. Looking for a great female lead, equal to her mate, with humor and romance in a paranormal world? That would be Mercy Thompson in Patricia Briggs' series, every book gets better and better.

Rebecca Zanetti is amazing author who has wrote another 5 star -excellent novel in her Dark Protectors Series. Since the series started with Fated (The Dark Protectors #1) it has caught my attention and am addicted. The story line continues and keeps getting better with her stubborn, over protected, over the top dominate, alpha male heroes.

Kane has always been the quiet brother that usually is either in the lab or out fighting the villains. To my surprise I fell in love with his character in Provoked. He does not do love, yes he loves his brothers, sister-in-laws, niece and nephew but he has never been in love. He does not believe in fate only knows logic. Until he meets Amber and everything his ever known has him all boggled and does not what to do.

Amber was a perfect match for Kane. Her character I adored. She thinks he is crazy when they first meet because she has no idea what she is and never new Vampires existed. In the beginning she puts poor Kane through so much. He is not used to being around humans only the ones he have known from his brothers. She has him chasing her and saying please.

The chemistry from the beginning with Amber and Kane was hot and the sexual tension was through the roof. But they do go through some ups and downs. He wants to mate with her for her powers so they can have a better chance at fighting the villains. But deep inside he is falling in love with her and just keeps telling himself he only wants to because of the powers. So many times I just wanted to knock him up side his head like his brothers wanted to do. Kane has never been a growler but Amber has him growling, being possessive, over protected and he can not keep his hands off her. Poor Amber will not mate with him because she believes in love and fate and wants the romance. Wow who would of guess how dominate Kane was in the bedroom. I for sure had some fan-my-self moments.

Fans of Janie, Zane and Kalin will not want to miss Provoked. I could not turn my kindle fast enough on their scenes. With each book we are getting more and more of them and in Provoked it has me wanting to have their own book. So many twist and turns that I did not see coming. I am actually at times hoping Kalin can redeemed himself. Janie still thinks he can be good. But I am a huge Zane fan who is still a mystery to me and I am loving Zane more and more with each book.

Poor Jase. It was hard to see him being tortured. Because of what is happening to Jase and watching his family go through the heartache of never knowing if they will ever rescue him had me shedding a few tears. There are a few intense scenes that had me on the edge of my seat.

Best Epilogue to date in The Dark Protector series. I look forward to see where Rebecca Zanetti will take us in her next novel.

Kane Kayrs has been mysterious in the fact that Rebecca Zanetti, has not really given us much of an insight into him in the previous Dark Protectors books. The highly intelligent scientist is a bit of a loner, with a penchant for ordered Zen living conditions, who likes to hunt Werewolves in his spare time, other than that nada!

Hold on to your knicker elastic ladies, our elusive scientist is a hottie with an extremely capable ‘test-tube’ that he knows exactly how to use, for maximum satisfaction!

Amber is a free-spirited, clean living vegan... Basically Kane’s opposite in almost every way, and you know what they say about opposites!

Finally, he found home.

”Amber, I like you. Against all rational thought, I like the way you think, the way you move, even the way you feel everything too strongly. And I want to have one night with you – not to relieve some stress, although it would – not to cement your help, although it might - and not to further any of my rather pressing goals. I just want to get inside you and drive you crazy until you scream my name.”

I love this series, I love this author.

"She wanted to help him. Truth be told, she wanted to soothe him. Worse truth? She loved him. Had ever since he'd rescued her on the side of a wintry road. Why couldn't he love her back?"

Amber was a rare Demon Destroyer the Realm had been seeking to end the war with the Demons and rescue the youngest Kayrs brother, Jase. Kane was the logically grounded and emotionally blocked Kayrs, sent to collect their secret weapon by whatever means possible. He didn't expect the complications of her being obstinate, having a "Gifted" Grandmother or possibly being his mate. Amber had been raised by her Grandma in an Eco-Village and everything Kane wanted went against her beliefs as a pacifist and respect for all life. How could he expect her to join a war? Then the choice is taken away from her when the Demons make their strike in turn unveiling a long kept secret that makes her start to question her life. The plot thickens between Janie, Kalin and Zane as she finally breaks the mental barriers keeping her out of their dreams and begins to set her plans in motion to save the world. I am excited to see where that will lead. It is sure to be heart pounding and explosive! I would give this book a 4 to 4.5 Stars. The heat is turning up and the tension is getting higher as they prepare for the final showdown!

This book featured Kane Kayrs, the middle brother of the royal family. Kane was the logical, calm, rational, intellectual, scientist and most importantly, the King's advisor. So when Kane encourage Dage to let the youngest brother Jase have more responsibilities, he didn't anticipate Jase being captured by demons. In order to continue to function with the pain as well as the responsibility of finding a cure for the virus, Kane turned all emotion inward.
All that control he created was tested in a mighty way when he met Amber Freebird.
Amber was a barmaid, completely obvious to her connection to the supernatural world or that such a world even exists. So when Kane shows up to her bar, tells her that she is a "demon destroyer, she knew this one definitely flew over the cuckoo's nest. Of course Kane uses his matter of fact tone to give her the facts and generously offers to mate in a business type arrangement. His proposition wasn't appreciated as Amber wanted nothing to do with his offer or this "supernatural world". But Jase's life was at stake so Kane had to figure out how to get Amber on board as time was running out.

Expect fireworks as these two navigate their differing views on life, love and war. But one thing they both valued was family and loyalty. So that became a foundation upon which they began building a team to rescue Jase .

It was interesting getting a glimpse of Kane in the bedroom. He really is a control freak, in and out of bed. It is also going to be interesting to see Amber the vegan, living with vampires and sometimes shifters. I can't wait till Jordan & Katie's family come to town.

The most interesting development is that little Janie Belle has been holding out on her family. She has been making secret plans that she put into motion with both Zane and Kalin. Who will she end up with and how does she intend to end this war? Either way, the all-out war is on the horizon and I am looking forward to seeing how the Realm will survive.

Another great installment in the Dark Protector Series.

Vampire Kane Kayrs is on a desperate search to find his brother Jase. Jase was taken years ago by demons. Kane has learned of the existence of a demon destroyer. It is said they have immense power and this one may be the key to saving his brother. Kane never expected to find the demon destroyer serving drinks in a Natureville, Colorado bar.

Amber Freebird is not ready for the life Kane is about to throw her into. A pacifist and a vegan Amber is all about doing things the cruelty-free way, but when evil starts hunting her and Kane she must learn a new way of doing things. Will Amber be able to hone her demon destroying skills in time to save Kane's brother?

Rebecca Zanetti keeps her Dark Protector series sensational with Provoked.

Amber and Kane are one of my favorite Dark Protector couples! These two make me laugh and they sizzle in all the right places! Amber and Kane are total opposites and that is what makes them quirky and fun. I just love Amber, she often speaks before thinking and that's always good for a giggle. Kane has the brooding hunter thing down. Amber is the perfect woman to sooth his burdened soul. Provoked adds another dimension to Ms. Zanetti's awesome series. She knows how to give her readers fast-paced action and killer sexual tension. I'm looking forward to the next Dark Protector book. You can absolutely feel that this story is leading up to something massive and I can't wait to discover what that is.

Provoked is book #5 in the series and another great addition to the Dark Protectors.
Kane Kayrs is the third brother and the scientist of the family who is sent to find and bring in the Demon Destroyer. Amber Freebird is the Demon Destroyer who has no knowledge that demons, vampires, shifters and witches exist. Kane know has to convince her to help them get Jase Kayrs back from the demons.
Kane and Amber have wonderful chemistry and the sex? lets just say its off the charts hot.
Kane is a genius but he has no clue why he's so drawn to Amber. You can't see love and feelings under a microscope so it must not be real. Even when everyone around them can see it.
Amber is fun and full of life and brings a much needed distraction to Kane's lonely laboratory existence. It's so fun to see the smartest Kayrs fall for a vegan who tries to makes him promise to go organic, all natural fibers and meat free through out the whole compound.
I liked how Rebecca Zanetti has brought the Demons more into the story. They have made appearances before but played a small part in the books. Now we get to see how truly evil they are. It's heartbreaking what they do to Jase.
The plot thickens also between Janie, Zane and Kalin. I can't wait for their book.

Kane is brilliant, logical, and the glue that holds all the Kayr brothers together. Amber is a demon destroyer - unknowingly, to be sure - smart as a whip, fearless, and loving. Kane needs her to help them find Jase, missing for four years. This is an action-packed, fast-moving story of a family drawn together for the singular purpose if finding the youngest brother. But the plot is intricate with the war going on with the Kurjans, continual battles with the demons, attempts to find a cure for Virus 27, the dilemma facing Janie, and of course Kane's battle between logic and emotion. A more lighthearted installment in this series thanks to the battle of the sexes between Amber and Kane.

I read A LOT of books and I am always glad to be able to give a raving review. They can't all be winners but R Zanetti writes a winner. I really enjoyed this book and the entire series. The books grabbed my attention and kept me interesting. The main characters were interesting. Although it is an alpha-male type book, the females retain their intelligence and dignity. I hate that many of the strong or dominant male hero books now reduce women to brainless subs. Its fun to find a title with great romance that doesn't sacrifice a quality story to get it. The sci fi creatures are awesome. The writing is excellent and I cannot wait for the next book.

Prior to reading this book, I had never read a book by Rebecca Zanetti. This is book #5 in the Dark Protectors series. I found the character of Amber to be slightly annoying and whiny. However, I could tell the series had great potential so I started at the beginning of the series after finishing this book. The series is fabulous. Great characters, great story, and they don't need to be read in order. (I would suggest to read them in order but they make perfect sense if you don't). My only complaint is about the covers because they make the series seem more like erotica when they are actually great paranormal romance.

Kane and Amber - definitely my favorite characters so far in this series. And the best storyline - although personally, I would have written a different ending.

We continue to see all the characters grow. And this time we see the depth of Kane, a character where we already know he's very matter-of-fact and logical. In comes Amber - she is so sweet and adorable. And the sex between the two is very different to what we've seen with Kane's brothers and their mates. A wonderful change and well written.

And Janie - I am so excited to see what happens with her. Please write faster, Rebecca, I need to know what happens. Oh, and are we going to have anymore babies? I hope so.

Dage Kayrs is the King, Talon is the strategist, Conn is the fighter and Kane Kayrs is the smart brother. So there is no one more upset than Kane that he hasn't been able to find a cure for the Virus-27 which is plaguing his people and his allies. And why are the inoculations for the shifters suddenly no longer effective? And why after four long years hasn't he been able to find his brother, Jase, who was captured by the Demons?

Demons have the ability to torture and cause pain in the mind. Even if they find Jase and rescue him, after four years of physical and mental torture, will there be anything left of the fun-loving Jase that they all love? What they need is a Demon Detroyer who can counter the Demon's powers, but no Detroyer has been found in decades. The Demons have hunted them all down.

When a Destroyer is finally located, Kane races to find her only to find out she's a vegan, pacifist who thinks Kane is absolutely crazy with this talk of demons, vampires, shape-shifters and kurjans. Not only does she think he's crazy, but she has no intentions in fighting anyone, ever, even if she had any idea what superpowers he is talking about.

Although Amber is probably the most exasperating woman he has ever met, Kane is convinced that the sensible thing for them to do is mate, then he would share her physic ability and be able to use it as a weapon against the demons. That fact that she can't see the logic behind his offer is astounding. There is no time for poetry, sonnets or ridiculously love in a time of war. Kane can feel that he is running out of time and Kane needs Amber's cooperation or her power soon if he is going to save his brother.

Kane isn't sure what is frustrating him more, his inability to solve all the problems that his people and his allies are facing, his inability to save his brother or the tiny slip of a woman who can't see the logic of doing things his way.

But he is right about one thing...time is running out for Jase and if they don't hurry there may be nothing left of Jase to save...

THOUGHTS:

I think I ran out of fingernails halfway through the book and started chewing on my fingers. Oh my God, poor Jase!! I could never be an author (besides lack of talent) because I could never do that to my beloved characters. When is the next book? When?? I need to know what happens!!

I love how Amber twists up the stoic and logical Kane. To Kane the logical thing since Amber won't fight and doesn't know how to use her powers, would be to mate with him and he would then share her abilities. He could then go save his brother. Amber wants love, especially when you re talking mating forever...forever forever...since they are nearly immortal! Surprisingly the brilliant Kane is absolutely certain that love doesn't exist, and he can't seem to make the connection between the feelings he has for his family and how he begins to feel for Amber and label it love.

I will say that I was so torn up about getting to Jase, that I was distracted by the romance. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, tell her you love her and let's go!!!!"

With everything going on with Jase, and Kane and Amber, we see little of Janie. But what we do see is that Janie is growing up and already getting very powerful with her abilities, and in the dream realm where they meet, the tensions between Janie, Zane and Kalin are heating up, and Zane saying "...get ready. I'm coming for you, Janie Belle. Soon!" left me giddy. *he,he,he*

All I can say is, I need more! Please write faster!

I have been a fan of Rebecca's work for quite some time. I actually received an ARC of book one, Fated, way back when and from that moment on I've been hooked. As with any series there is going to be ups and downs, as was the case with the last book that I just couldn't get into. Going into this one I was leery because I had problems with book four and it really upset me. Nothing sucks more then not connecting with a character in a series you adore. So going into this one I wanted so much to get back to my original feelings on the series. I'm happy to report that I totally did!

Kane is the brainy brother of the Kayrs family and mostly prefers to stay on the sidelines and work in his labs. His wicked smarts, diligence and brutal fighting ability make him a fierce competitor but his guilt weighs heavily on shoulders. He's a typical alpha male. He takes everything to heart and thinks everyone is his responsibility. The capture of their brother Jase weighs on them all but Kane the worst. At least in his eyes. His sole mission is to get him back at all costs. Now he has a lead on his whereabouts and the only thing standing in his way is one lone female who has no idea of the power she wields.

Amber is everything Kane is not. She's free and untamed and completely untapped in the power department. She balks at the very notion of anything paranormal, especially faced with the reality that she isn't completely normal herself. Watching her come to terms with her unusual demon hunting ability was awesome. I loved how her reactions to everything were what I would consider normal. None of that "I'm a demon hunter? Ok, let's go kick some butt..." stuff. She had reservations that any normal person would have when put in such a weird position. Especially her because she was a complete pacifist and animal lover. Pairing her with a scientist was a classic case of opposites attract. I loved how Kane was both the brains and the brawn even if he was a bit stunted in the feelings department. Alphas generally are anyway.

I enjoyed all the other Kayrs brothers in Provoked and thought Zanetti did an excellent job solidifying their brotherhood. I'm really starting to get impatient for Janie's story though I know that will be the last book. The precocious child has grown into a lovely young woman as the books have progressed. Her part in the ending of the war is still yet to be determined but as she's grown so have the two young men who will ultimately fight for her in the final good vs. evil battle royale. Of course I think we have at least one more book before that happens because poor Jase needs a happy ending (snort) too. After being a prisoner of war for years and having his mental capacity tested continually, his fractured spirit needs some healing.

At the end of book four I was sad because I didn't connect. At the end of Provoked I was still sad but only because it ended and I wasn't ready for that yet. Rebecca Zanetti will engage and delight readers again and again with her emotionally connected characters and all encompassing story arcs!

I give Provoked by Rebecca Zanetti 4 stars!

Scene with Kane, Conn and Moira (page 294)
Kane to Conn: "Make your mate stop frowning at me."
Conn's frown beat Moira's - hands-down.
Conn: "Last time I made her do something, she burned my eyelashes off. You make her stop
frowning."

Finally, the story for my favorite vampire and it's the best one!

The logical Kane, the smart one of the Kayrs brothers, doesn't believe in what he can't look under the microscope, like love. Amber, a precious demon destroyer in the war against the demons, is all about love.

This is a sweet love story between two very different people, that are perfect for each other.

I liked Amber's grandma, she's very funny.

The search for Jase, kidnapped by the demons 4 years ago, continues and it's heart breaking. The scenes from Jase's POV, while in captivity, are very emotional and made me weepy.

Janie, Zane and Kalin - a trio that triggers my interest. Now they are adults and the emotions are stronger - theirs and the readers. I can't wait for the final developments in this story.

Absolutely fantastic! This is the best paranormal series I have ever read. You laugh, you have sad moments, there is danger and suspense but best of all, red hot passion, love, sex. Great story lines as again this book proved it is every bit as good as the ones that preceded it. Excellent read!! The writer has a way of writing that brings you right into the story like you are living it with them. She also writes the characters to be so believable it is amazing. Don't miss reading this book and this series.

I have read "Claimed" another book by this author. This is the story of a enhanced human who meat a very handsome vampire. The vampire has been looking for her to help him and his family find his brother who was taken by demons. Unfortunately she does not know she is a enhanced human. She does not believe in demons or vampires. Eventually she learns about her heritage. In the meantime there is some hot sex.

This is the second book I have read in the Dark Protector's series and I loved it. Amber is smart, strong, and witty. Kane is frustrated, overly logical, and sexy as hell. It's fast paced and full of action. If you're new to the series don't worry, you will not feel lost at all. And I love that each book jumps ahead a few years, its frustrating when only a year in a series has gone by but like ten have passed in real life. It irks me when character's have modern technology, but in their world its still 2000. The story jumps around from character to character seamlessly, and I can't wait to read Janie and Jase's stories respectively, but I really, really, really, hope Janie is next.

I am still enjoying this series and thought that Kane finding his love interest was good. This series is an easy read and I feel as they go through all the brothers it is getting thinner and thinner. I look forward to the series finally focusing on Janie. I would slate this book in the series a 6. I think as they focus more on the war and the other brothers, the main characters don't have enough time to be developed.

This is my first time reading this series so I wasn't really sure what to expect but luckily I slipped into this world quickly and easily from the beginning. And while I loved the book I had a hard time liking Amber.

It would be better if I had read the other book in the series but only because then I would know the other characters better and understand the situation fully. Jace has been missing for four years, he was captured by demons and Amber is their only hope. Of course, Amber doesn't even know she's a demon destroyer and has a bit of a hard time coming to terms with everything. Especially because she's a pacifist And while I thought it was pretty realistic and liked that she didn't just give in to what Kane said so quickly, I also found myself losing patients with her. I know the author wanted to make Amber stand out and make some kind of ironic statement but I just found it annoying. Every time she would mention some stupid saving the earth thing I wanted to kick her. I'm all for saving the earth and I'm actually a vegetarian but I hated the way she was judging them and practically forcing them to do what she said. I don't know what it was about her but I just didn't like her. And then because she's a pacifist she can't even do her job right. *Sighs* sometimes an author tries to make a character fun and likable but all they end up doing is the complete opposite; that's how I feel about Amber.

Dane is known as the smartest guy on the planet. He's all about logic and facts and definitely does not believe in love and fate. If he can't see it then he doesn't believe it. As he begins to spend more time with Amber he starts to like her and feel emotions he's never felt before. I really liked Dane and I loved how he has to be in control of everything, including in the bedroom. I liked that he was controlling but sometimes I just wished he would let Amber do what she wanted. It's his way or no way and to me, there's a thin line with those kind of guys where it stop being sexy and starts being irritating.

What I really liked was the world the author has created. And I loved all the other characters. We even get to see what Jace is going through. He goes through so much I can't even believe he been enduring that pain for over four years. A lot happens in this book and I'm definitely interested to see what's going to happen next.

Even though I already know what happens to the other characters I'm still going to read the whole series and catch up . If you haven't read this series before then I would recommend you start from the beginning but it's not necessary.
