It was slow going at first. But once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. I have enjoyed the midnight breed series for years. I still have paper backs. I consider her to be one of the greatest paranormal authors of all time

Fantastic start of a new /spin-off series. This is the first installment in The Hunter Legacy Series and if it is any indication this series will be a hit. Gen One Breed Hunter Asher is living a solitary life when he encounters someone in trouble. Naomi is a young woman that has been fending for herself for many years. Her quest in life is to be there for kids in a way no one was there for her. This was a well written, quick read and that anyone that reads the Midnight Breed series will enjoy.

Born of Darkness was enthralling! If you read Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series then you will love this series. It is set in the same world only 20 years after the Breed had been outed to the world. Now all those hunters from Midnight Breed series are learning to deal with this world and freedom.

This first book is the hunter Asher. His, like all the other hunters, background is one of fear, madman, and forced servitude. He is content in his freedom, even if he isn't truly living, only surviving. Then Naomi into his life and turns his world upside down. He is drawn into a deadly game that changes his life and Naomi's.

This book was fabulous. It kept me on edge and broke my heart. These characters were dynamic and strong. The heat in this book will singe your fingers as you read it. Asher and Naomi have strong personalities. They clash spectacularly! I loved their story and I can NOT wait until the 2nd book in this series is released. I very highly recommend it!

Born of Darkness is the first book in Lara Adrian's new Hunter Legacy series, a spin of set in the same world as her bestselling Midnight Breed books. Each of these stories are going to be standalone paranormal romances so you don't have to be familiar with the original series to enjoy them but longtime fans will appreciate the chance to spend more time in this world and to find out what happened to the many Gen One Breed Hunters bred and trained by Dragos.

It's been 20 years since Asher escaped from his hellish upbringing in the labs and he prefers to live a pretty solitary existence in an isolated home in the middle of the desert. He's never really forgiven himself for the things he was forced to do as a child and he's barely kept in contact with any of his siblings. Naomi lost her family when she was only a child, her mother was murdered and her time in the system ended with her living on the streets fending for herself. She does whatever it takes to survive and help protect the other children she cares about but her latest scheme has left her in more danger than ever before. When Asher comes to her rescue he plans to just drop her at the nearest hospital and be done with her but when he realises she is a Breedmate he is honour bound to protect her until the danger has passed.

This was the perfect blend of romance, action and suspense and a brilliant start to a new series. Both main characters were great they may have had difficult backgrounds but with work they were able to turn their lives around. Asher is a loner who is wary of letting anyone get close because he worries they'll blame him for his past but Naomi is open and warmhearted and does everything she can to help others who are in a similar situation to her. It takes a while for Asher to open up but inside he's just as protective as Naomi and he has brilliant instincts. They're both strong characters who refuse to back down so there are plenty of fireworks between them but I think that just made their romance even more passionate.

I love the Midnight Breed world so it was a joy to dive into this story even though we don't actually see any characters from the main series. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of the Hunters and I hope we'll see more of Asher and Naomi again too, I'd like to see him rebuild his relationship with his brothers a little and I think Naomi is the perfect person to help him do that. I have a feeling we've already met at least one half of the next couple and I'm definitely looking forward to their story too.

As a long-time fan of the Midnight Breed series, I was thrilled to discover there was going to be a spin-off series about some of the most enigmatic, lethal Breed Vampires- the Hunters. Strong, skilled Gen One Warriors who were bred and trained by a mad-man with only one purpose- to kill. I was always curious what happened to all those young guys who were finally free, but with such dark shadows on their pasts. Now, we're getting each of their stories with the Hunter Legacy series.

Born of Darkness introduces the Hunter, Asher. He's found his way out into the Mojave Desert near Vegas. A kind old human man took him in and gave him a chance. Asher likes the solitude that Ned's land and caring for animals gives to him since Asher's memories from the past do not leave him and his psychic gift is more a curse. By one simple touch, he is forced to relieve a person's worst life experiences.

Into Asher's lonely tranquil life storms Naomi Fallon. He saves her life when she gets caught cheating a powerful casino owner and then feels he must continue to protect her once he gets her memories and recognizes that she's a Breed Female using her gift to steal for revenge against the guy who killed her mother. Naomi is a spitfire, somewhat cocky about danger, and stubborn about going it her own way since she's been alone through growing up in foster care. She rushes headlong into some tough spots and finds it's not a bad thing to have a big, bad Breed male at her side.

So, this new spin-off series is off to a good start. I can see where both long-time Midnight Breed fans and newcomers can pick up this book and enjoy it. It is a standalone as promised with just enough connection to the previous series and open to what is to come without anyone getting lost.

From the start, I was into Asher's brooding, cranky, and yet generous personality. He wanted to be left alone, but he steps up anyway and then he quickly comes to see that he wants Naomi and he sticks with it even though she leads him on a merry time in her need for revenge that set some bad stuff in motion and her trouble with opening up to someone.

Naomi's the one I was iffy about at times. She pulled a few stupids that left me shaking my head and wondering how she'd lived so long. I don't have a lot of patience for that sort of thing.

But, there was a good connection and I could tell how this pair did need each other and worked well . And, holy smokes did this pair have some sizzle. They couldn't keep their hands off each other once they gave into the immediate attraction. Their suspense and action scenes out on the desert and back in Vegas were sensational, too. I loved seeing lethal Asher get to show his ruthless side all to help Naomi- who was pretty tough, herself, and take down a baddy who needed dealing with.

I'm definitely hoping for Cain, a secondary character and a fellow Hunter to get his story next. He caught my attention.

As to the narration work, I thought Roger Wayne was fantastic for this book. He did great with Asher and all the characters including Naomi both her adult voice and child-like past history voice. He had good timing for the action, the passion, and for the thoughtful moments. I hope he continues as the series narrator.

So, all in all, this series is off to a solid start. I think I might love the Hunter stories more than the main series if they continue along this line. Paranormal Romance fans who like their fangers, passionate lovers, strong characters and lots of action should definitely pick this one up.

I read and loved the first Midnight Breed book and read them at the time on my Nook during my pre-blogging days. By the time I discovered there were more books in the series I was way behind. And as any reader knows, we have oodles of books and series on and in our TBR pile. So when I saw there would be a spinoff series I jumped in.

Born of Darkness introduces Asher a hunter-breed vampire that escaped in the Midnight Breed series. He found refuge on a homestead in the Mojave Desert, near to Vegas. The old man who took him in taught Asher skills and gave him a second chance at life. While his psychic gift still plagues him and he struggles to find peace he is relatively happy with his quiet existence. That is until he rescues Naomi and discovers she is a female revered by the breed community.

Naomi Fallon is a spunky, gifted young woman who grew up on the streets of Vegas after a powerful man destroyed her mother. Intent on revenge she uses her special gift by emptying his coffers one win at a time. She then uses those funds to provide shelter to the many abandoned children who sleep, in the streets, along sunset strip. Together with her best friend, Michael they provide a safe, warm place to stay. But, Naomi’s latest heist finds her in the trunk of a limo and facing certain death.

I loved the intense suspense thread and romance that developed. It reminded me why I loved those first Midnight Breed books so much. Adrian brought sizzling heat and mixed in broken characters you cannot help but root for. Asher’s story will tug at your heartstrings. We also got moments that made me laugh aloud and heck I even squeed a few times. The balance of dark and light worked perfectly.

Roger Wayne was a new-to-me narrator. His pacing was good, and I liked the wide range of voices he provided. I felt like he captured Asher and Naomi’s personalities and quirks.

ARC for honest review. I love these books. You fall right back into their “breed” world. I always love when we get into their minds, and find out that most have more honor than you think. Their emotions are heightened, and you can see them fall in love with their breedmate almost instantly.

Naomi trying to get away from Asher in his truck is kinda funny til he realizes he can’t get her back just yet. Her street kids immediately made my heart hurt. I know it’s fiction, but how many kids are out there like that? Countless probably... I want to hug and feed them all! MIchael, her best friend, only wanting the best for those kids also. He was there too for Naomi to as she wanted justice for her mother. So, the ending of this one definitely tugged my heart strings.

This book was good, and opened up a new way for the breed to continue on.

This is the first book in the Hunter Legacy series, and I was so excited to dive back into Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed World. This series is a spin-off from one of my fave PNR series, but you don’t need to have read Midnight Breed to enjoy this one, it easily stands alone as a great vampire romance, though long-time Lara fans will love it!

Asher is a Hunter - a vampire cruelly bred in a laboratory to become a lethal, ruthless assassin. He was a prisoner until he and others of his kind were freed from their captivity, and now, 20 years later, Asher is living a solitary life on a farm just outside of Las Vegas, still struggling under the weight of the guilt and disgust of all that he was forced to do. But when he interrupts an attempted murder in the Mojave, his quiet existence is about to change forever.

Naomi survived a hellish childhood to become a strong young woman driven by both her need to protect other at-risk children who would otherwise be homeless, and by her need for vengeance. She is determined to bring down the wealthy casino owner who is responsible for her mother’s death as a child, and her unique skills have put her on his radar, putting her in a world of trouble when she is dragged to the middle of the desert in the middle of the night at gunpoint.

She is rescued by a tall, dark and dangerous Breed male who takes her into his home and cares for her. Asher recognises Naomi as a Breedmate, one of the rare woman on earth who is able to mate with a vampire and deserving of his respect and protection. But he quickly finds himself drawn into her troubles as he takes on the role of her protector, determined to defend her from danger – even if she doesn’t want it.

It’s an exciting, dramatic ride that had me hooked as Naomi determinedly seeks out the justice she has fought so hard for, and Asher fights to protect “the Breedmate who’d not only upended his solitary existence but lit it on fire.” And, of course, it’s all enhanced by the sizzling chemistry between Asher and Naomi as they find themselves helplessly attracted to each other, and oh holy hell, it’s HOT!

Asher and Naomi are great characters with strong backgrounds that have greatly influenced who they have become. They have secrets, but all is eventually revealed, and as they open up to each other, they find their connection becoming stronger and stronger as they fall madly for each other, and I loved watching it all happen for them!

But the threat to Naomi is very real, and with the bad guy getting closer and the danger all too real, they will need to learn to trust in each other – and themselves – to get their HEA.

I loved this book. The characters are great, their stories tie together beautifully, and I thought that they were a fantastic match for each other. I could feel the chemistry, and their growing feelings for each other, and I was swept up in their fast-paced, intense romance.

I thought the action/suspense storyline was fantastic, with some twists and a whole lot of emotion. Parts of it were unexpected, but again, it ties in so well to Asher and Naomi’s story, and I was captivated as it all played out.

Lara Adrian has delivered a strong series starter with this one, and I’m really excited to read more about the intriguing Hunters as this series progresses.

Set in Adrian’s Midnight Breed world, but having very little connection to the Order, Born of Darkness revels in the beauty that is a member of the Breed with his Breedmate. In this book we see Asher, a Gen One warrior born in Dragos’ lab, save a woman from certain death out in the Mojave desert. The woman, Naomi, had been taken to the remote location to be killed by some security goonies from a Las Vegas casino who caught Naomi stealing money from their boss, Slater. Naomi has a personal vendetta against Slater and the drive for her to get revenge on Slater from a harm done to her years and years ago, consumes her totally and completely. Even once Asher saves her, nurses her back to health, and they find themselves romantically involved, Naomi still needs to see Slater pay for his past, and continued, wrongs.

Asher is a member of the Breed like we’ve never seen. After escaping Dragos’ lab he wandered (literally and figuratively), eventually stumbling upon an old man who took him in for over 15 years. Now that the man has passed, Asher leads a solitary existence out in the desert. He keeps animals, he does woodworking, he is basically all alone in the world. Naomi, on the other hand, runs a makeshift shelter with a close friend. They open their home to kids out on the street for a night or two, giving the kids a home like they’ve probably never seen. And thus, Asher and Naomi really do have an opposites attract romance.

Coming from such different worlds, Asher and Naomi fight their attraction for one another for a good portion of the book. Even when they become emotionally and sexually involved with one another, they still both believe that their time together will be coming to an end eventually. Due to his past in Dragos’ lab, Asher doesn’t believe he is worthy of love and Naomi’s vendetta is so all-consuming that she hasn’t considered life beyond revenge. They give each other hope and something to live for so when the big bad rises up and threatens to destroy both of them, they cling love that they know to be true.

I hope we see more books like Born of Darkness from Adrian. I love her Midnight Breed series, really I do, but I find the larger story arc of Opus Nostrum to be a bit cumbersome at times. For the past few new releases in the Midnight Breed series the Opus Nostrum plot has kept me from thoroughly enjoying the romance of the books since they are so heavily focused on pushing the larger arc forward. Born of Darkness, on the other hand, is exactly what I look for in paranormal romances and everything I want from a book on my keeper shelf. It’s unexpected, heart-pounding, and has ultimate re-readability. 4.5 stars for Born of Darkness!

I'll admit I have HIGH expectation from Lara. The Midnight Breed is one of my absolute favorite PNR series and the Hunters' stories is something I wondered about especially since "Deeper than Midnight" (Hunter and Corrine's book). I wanted to learn more about them, what they went through, to see them grow into independent men. In this one I felt we got a lot more of Naomi's story than Asher (which was mostly revealed to us in the end).

Asher have been living a life of mostly solitude since he was released from captivity. He had a human companion he lived with for years, but he died leaving Asher to live in his farm on his own. He doesn't mind that really but when he saves a young woman - Naomi, all that is about to change.

Naomi lived a difficult life. After her mother was taken from her at an early age, she mostly lived on the streets finding a family with her best friend Michael and a bunch of homeless kids they care for together. Their money they acquire through a special ability Naomi has which is manipulating mechanical machines. This is a Breedmate power and though Naomi knows very little about what it all means she enjoys using this power to take away from the man who took her mother from her - a shark casino owner.

Asher encounters Naomi as she is being nearly executed by said shark's men. Saving her he also realizes she is a Breedmate which puts breaks in getting her back to safety and forgetting all about her.. Naomi has other things on her mind! She won't be takes by Asher to a shelter and even though he is courteous towards her, she won't stay with him.

Asher somehow finds himself mixed with Naomi's passions. It starts when he intends to "hunt her down" and bring her home after her escape, but once he realizes she is in grave danger he succumbs to helping her as best as he can, though Naomi mostly can take care of herself. She has balls of steel! Though she does a lot of reckless deeds which makes me wonder who the hell no one took her out before.. Especially a certain Breed male who is also a Hunter (Cain - which I hope we'll get to meet in the next one!).

While spending time together in the farm Naomi and Asher find it hard to ignore their attraction to one another and once they start, they can't stop (I mean, literally, they can't stop screwing each other's brains out..). Through all that activity between them and the little they share about their past, mostly Naomi and I guess it started with Asher accidentally touching her and by unleashing HIS special power - witnessing the most horrific experience of her life, the road to "True Love" is very short. I forgot how fast those things happen in PNR. After reading a book almost twice as long only yesterday with the SLOWEST burn, it was a bit too easy IMO. I wish we got more of the two of them and not only in the physical capacity - seeing more of Naomi's world, learning more about Asher's life before he was rescued, and after. I just felt the story didn't "grip" me enough.

I Love the Midnight Breed world, getting more is always fun. I think for someone who haven't read ANY of the books in the series, well, you might be left with a few questions but I still think this COULD be read and enjoyed as a totally stand alone novel. If it makes you want to read the Main Series - even better! :)

Lara Adrian kicks off a new series with Born of Darkness and does so with two unforgettable characters that will intrigue you and have you glued to the pages till you finish.

I loved this book. No big surprise there as I’m a long time reader of this author and would read anything she wrote. What I loved most about this book was the sheer stubbornness of both the main characters in Asher and Naomi. It’s rare to see this trait in both main characters and not only did I fall head over heels for them, I am already salivating for the next Hunter Legacy book.

This pairing was so not what I expected and so was the setting of Las Vegas, when I picked up the book and I love that after all these years I can still be surprised by what the author comes up with. I never thought a breed warrior and a thief breedmate would go together, but they do and they are molten hot.

Lara Adrian mixes romance, intrigue, suspense, Breed lore and heart in just the right formula to give us the reader an unputdownable read, again.

Throw in an adorable able dog in Sam who totally tries to steal the page and a bunch of kids who tore my heart to pieces with what they have been through and where they end up and I’m really not kidding when I say it’s unputdownable.

The Hunter Legacy is another spin-off of the hugely popular Midnight Breed novels and while the legends and lore have been laid with the previous books, the author has done an amazing job of keeping the stories connected but giving this book a fresh take and voice. Like I said, I can’t wait for more and to see another Hunter meet his match.

It’s no secret that we are huge fans of the Midnight Breed series here at UTC. In fact, if you want to start reading a good PNR and don’t know where to start, Lara Adrian is a great place to start! So when we heard she was writing a spin off we were beyond excited.

The Hunter Legacy series follows the assassins from the Hunter program. If you are Midnight Breed fan, this is a must read. But if you are new to Lara Adrian, this is also a great place to start. It’s written in a way that makes it easy enough to jump in in my opinion. And then once you fall in love with Ms. Adrian’s writing, you’ll have plenty of other books to keep you company while you wait for the next one to come out.

BORN OF DARKNESS has the perfect blend of recluse, sexy hero and spunky heroine. I really enjoyed both characters individually. They’ve gone through a lot of heartache in the past and they are both dealing with that the best way they can. But together they are able to cope better and overcome obstacles. I really liked how they managed to bring the best out in each other.

Lara Adrian excels at writing unique and fresh stories. That’s always what keeps me coming back for more. This was no different. It’s a mix of Vegas gangsters and revenge while set in the Mojave desert and the bright lights of the Vegas strip. It was just a lot of fun to read. Your heart can’t help but open up for these Hunters and the things they’ve experienced. The memories of what they’ve had to do. I am really excited we are getting that glimpse into them and can’t wait for the next one.

“On your back, vampire. It’s my turn to torture you.”

Paranormal Romance was how I actually got introduced to the romance genre and at first it was my absolute favorite, but in the recent years I found myself shying away from it. I’m not sure if it was the lack of great material out there or what, but Contemporary Romance ended up taking over my life and PNR got pushed to the wayside and when I think hard on that, it’s incredibly sad. If there is one author who could pull me out of a PNR funk it would be Lara Adrian! She was my favorite back then, and she’s still a favorite of mine now. When I saw that she was doing a series spin-off of her INCREDIBLE Midnight Breed Series, I about FREAKED the freak out! That was AMAZING news because that series will go down as one of my all time favorites in the PNR world.

BORN OF DARKNESS, book one in Adrian’s NEW Hunter Legacy series brings us Asher and Naomi, two unforgettable characters with heavy demons in their past…and present. Their connection is immediate even though they don’t know what to make of one another. They have their preconceived notions, but those end up going to hell the minute they touch. Their journey was so entertaining, so sexy, and so hauntingly beautiful, I couldn’t put it down. I don’t remember the last time I was so damn excited about a new series starting, and after devouring BORN OF DARKNESS, I just know that the PNR community is SO READY for this! Get ready to FALL IN LOVE with a different brand of vampire…get ready for the HUNTER LEGACY!

Born of Darkness (Midnight Breed - Hunter Legacy) by Lara Adrian.

Born of Darkness takes us back to the world of the Midnight Breed series, only 20 years after the Breed is openly living among humans and follows the escaped assassins from the cruel and sadistic Hunter program. This is Asher's story set on the outskirts of Las Vegas, NV and the Strip.

Asher is a Gen One Breed vampire and one of the former assassins created in a lab by madman and Master Dragos. Enduring the cruelty of the training that turned them into efficient and effective killing machines with no choice but to do their Master's bidding. Now living in freedom or self-imposed exile from life, Asher is the epitome of a loner, reclusive and brooding who merely wants to live out his life alone, feeling unworthy of anything more due to his past.

Naomi is a Breedmate who enters his life quite by accident. She carries her own scars and baggage, but is the perfect heroine for this reluctant hero. She uses her special gift to avenge a wrong and also help the needy. But of course that puts her in danger and is how Asher enters her life.

Now faced with one of the most powerful enemies you could have, it's up to Asher to help keep Naomi safe or lose all he's come to hold dear.

Born of Darkness is a wonderful story of redemption and self-forgiveness, of healing and love. Who else but Lara Adrian take a cold blooded killer and make you not only sympathetic for his plight, but have you rooting for his happily ever after?

Five stars and cannot wait for the next book!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!!! A Midnight Breed spinoff the Legacy Series! This book is about Dragos’ Hunters. Dragos needed an army who could do his biding and not give a S**t about what they were doing, but in order to have them they needed to be created NOT just born, so he decades ago started the Hunter Program. He kidnapped Breedmates. These are special women to the Breed. They can only have babies with these women. They only have boys. Boys who supposed to be born in love were born to be lethal weapons. They were created to killl without remorse they killed on command. They were controlled by a UV collar that could detonate at any given time by Dragos or whoever he put in charge. When Dragos was taken down by the Order some that did not have the collar on escaped and went off into the night...some survived some didn’t. But in this first book we meet Asher. Asher’s unique ability is to read feelings by one touch he can see your feelings or rathe feel them, hurt, love, kill, dreams, he can feel it. There is a young breedmate named Naomi aka Zoe and she has a gift too..her gift is machine manipulation she touches a machine and it malfunctions and stuff happens...some good some bad. She gets into trouble when she tries to steal from a man who killed her mother. It doesn’t sit well with Asher. He knows this guy and it’s not good. This book has it all...action, suspense, death and love. Lara you are a ROCKSTAR!!!

I've loved the Breed series and had high expectations of this spinoff. Those expectations were exceeded in many ways. While it isn't required to read the Breed series before starting this, I would highly recommend it as you will be missing some things. The severity of the things missed ranges from not important to the more details the better. The book does include a bit of history from the series, enough that you'll get the gist of what is going on. However, I'm greedy and like knowing all the details so I think having read the Breed series added to the enjoyment of this one as I know how badly the Hunters were treated and how dangerous they are. The word dangerous usually implies to those around them but I found that usually they are more dangerous to themselves as it's hard to break out of the mindset of being unworthy and only having one job. The story line for this is interesting and definitely throws you back into the world of vampires and them being known to the world. I read this in one night because I needed to know what happened both for the main characters but also for the other ones mentioned in the story. There are many people introduced in this book that are new and some that aren't, but they all have a relevant part in the story. In addition, I suspect there will be some building upon those in future books. Yes, this is a vampire romance but it isn't like the rest and even after 15.5 books in the Breed series and then this being first book in the Breed series it is anything but stale. The concept and story are still fresh and still sexy. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes a little bite with their romance. ;)

I loved this book. Born of Darkness is a fantastic kick off book to the new Midnight Breed Hunter Legacy series. Have you ever wondered what happened to all those Hunters that were freed by the Order? Where did they go? How did they integrate back into human and breed society? What does a trained assassin do when he’s freed from captivity and how does he deal with the trauma of his past?

Now we start to get some answers! We meet Asher and Naomi Fallon in this story. Neither character has had an easy life and both have past traumas that they are enduring. They are both strong, stubborn characters that readers will fall in love with.

The plot moves along at a great pace letting readers get into the story and enjoy the characters. Lara Adrian promises that some of the original Midnight Breed characters will make appearances in this series. It will be fun to see them on stage with the new characters from the Hunter Legacy series, but if Asher is any indication of the new Hunters that we will meet, they can stand on their own.

If you’ve never picked up a Midnight Breed book don’t worry. You can read this and the background information provided will bring you up to speed. Fair warning that you will be intrigued and want to read the original series!

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This was a brilliant start to the series. I do love a spin-off series, this was a great idea giving us the stories of the Hunters.

We start of with Asher who has an extremely dark past and hasn't quite come to terms with it yet. He's Gen-One so the biggest, baddest, toughest Vampires of them all. Not a breed male to mess with. I like that although these males have seen and done terrible things, at their absolute core they are honest people. They have a code that they follow and rightly or wrongly they stick to it.

Naomi we meet at the height of her quest to make the man who wronged her in the worst way possible pay for his crimes. She determined to right a wrong and unfortunately it's put her on a path of destruction. She's full of love and compassion but is blinded by revenge.

They both had a lot to sort through emotionally but they found a connection so strong it surpassed the problems around them. Great chemistry, they seemed to really get each other and I found their developing relationship really interesting to read. The story was fast-paced, action packed and had lighter moments.

A great start to the new series.

I honestly didn't think I would be as enthralled with a Midnight Breed book that didn't deal with the characters we're used to, but the Hunter Legacy series delivers that and more. I just couldn't put it down. Asher is a powerful former assassin from the Hunter program set up by Dragos years ago, among those freed when the Order put down Dragos. The gift he inherited from his Breedmate mother is amazing (I won't give it away). When he crosses paths with Naomi in the dark desert night outside Las Vegas, both their lives are forever changed. Naomi is a former street child, who with the help of her longtime friend Michael, takes in other street children on the streets of Las Vegas. She has no idea what her strange birthmark means - until now. Everything builds to a shattering climax under the bright lights of the Vegas strip. We also get to meet another Hunter, Cain, and I do hope we get to hear more about him in the future.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is honest - buy and read it now!

This is a new series that is related to the author's other series, Midnight Breeds, but is intended to be able to be read as standalones. There are familiar characters which makes it nice for those familiar with the other series.

Asher was created to serve a monster and he survived that hell. He likes being a loner for the most part. When he rescues a young woman from a mobster, he finds himself wanting more for the first time. Naomi is on a deadly mission and she will need someone like Asher if she wants to survive.

I really enjoyed the story from start to finish. Asher is an intriguing character. He suffered great pain for what he had to do to survive and denies himself a chance at a real life. Naomi has never recovered from her childhood loss and has taken on a dangerous man. She doesn't trust easily but they form this bond. They really have a strong connection that resonates with the reader.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Asher was created to be a Hunter to kill and obey Dragos. Now free he has been living his a kind man named Ned who took him in and treated him like a son. With Ned gone for a year Hunter is just living a day at a time. While returning from running errands he spots a car on the side of the road. Knowing nothing good can he happening he ventures out to see what is going. Naomi knows her life is about over until this strange man walks in to save her. One look at Naomi and Asher knew he had to protect her finding out she was a breedmate he knew he had to contact the Order. Naomi has been trying to get back at Leo Slater for killing her mother. Now it looks like Slater is after her after her last antic at his casino. Now she has put her best friend Michael in harms way too. Can Asher keep Naomi safe and ignore the chemistry between them. Naomi is just the woman to show Asher he is worthy of love and family.

Born of Darkness is the first book in Lara Adrian's new series the Hunter Legacy and most definitely a great beginning to this series.
Asher is one of the Gen One Breed vampires who used to be part of the Hunter program but since escaping twenty years ago he has lived peacefully on a small ranch outside of Las Vegas until one night he stumbles upon a young woman nearly being killed by a local gangster's henchmen that draws him into a deadly game with powerful new enemies and possibly ones from is past also.
Asher knows that with his skills he can protect Naomi from any kind of enemy, but will her finding out about his past shatter any chance at love they have?
I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books in this great series!

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Lara Adrian continues to deliver highly entertaining stories with every new release she has and her first book in her new Midnight Breed Hunter Legacy series, BORN OF DARKNESS is no exception. This is a spinoff of the Midnight Breed series that I have loved for more years than I can remember and follows the Gen One assassins that survived the hunter program.

First up in the series is Asher and Naomi, who he meets in the Mojave dessert. Add in some fun in Las Vegas, gangsters, the always present chemistry of a Lara Adrian book and you have an awesome start to a new series!

If you’re already a fan and have read the Midnight Bread series great! But if not, no problem, you could pick this up and be just fine. I’d recommend going back and reading the whole if you ever get the chance…they are amazing!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Born of Darkness by Lara Adrian

Lara definitely wielding her magic on us again with this newest instalment of what looks to be absorbed amazing Hunters series and addition to the Midnight Breed World.

Asher & Narumi they definitely compliment each other. Both strong, courageous and vulnerable due to life experiences that it broke my heart reading about their past :(

Highly recommend you read this it grabs you by the throat from the first page!

On a side note: Even though a seriously minor character I would like to see more of Rachel Reynolds and Cain is another mystery I would love to read about **wink wink**

This is a great start to the new Hunter series, a spinoff of the Midnight Breed series. Asher is a hunter who prefers to be on his own. He lives out in the country, near Las Vegas. When he saves Naomi, he doesn't realize that she's a breedmate. Once he sees her birthmark, Naomi has lost her freedom as he's required to protect her at all costs. Once again, Lara creates characters that are wonderfully written. Naomi is a strong heroine and has no desire to be controlled by anyone. Our hero is dark, dangerous and sexy; a bad boy who doesn't feel he's worth Naomi's love. I can't wait for the next Hunter book!

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

It was so great getting back into the Breed world!

This author never fails to entertain me. Her books always bring the heat as well as a strong sense of loyalty and family.

I really liked these characters. Naomi is a strong female lead, full of heart and determination. But, her need for vengeance may just be what brings her down.

She never saw Asher coming...never wanted to be part of that world...and the former Hunter never wanted anything to do with hers either. It was a surprise for them to find the home they didn't know they were searching for in each other.

This is an exciting start to the Hunter Legacy series. Asher is one of the surviving assassins in the Hunter program and is content to live alone in the desert near Las Vegas. Naomi is not your typical Breedmate and her special abilities have gotten her in trouble with a dangerous casino owner. Asher reluctantly rescues Naomi and the passion between them slowly builds as the attraction to each other grows.
This story has interesting, strong characters and plenty of action that will draw you right in.
I enjoyed this story so much and can't wait for the next one!

Thank you for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This spin off was the perfect book to get me to re-read some of her previous books that I have missed. I enjoyed the characters. They aren't perfect but who among us is? I did find it slow going in a few spots but overall I thought it a good read. There are pretty explicit sex scenes. I think that most paranormal romance readers would enjoy this book. I rated it a 3.5.

The first of a new series about the Hunters who do not become directly associated with the Order Meant to be stand alone but it helps if you have read previous Midnight Breed books. Asher, a loner, saves a teen from mob killers, only to find a grown female Breedmate … and they turn each others world sideways with interesting characters and fast action. A quick read.

Lara Adrian does it every time, with action, blood and romance. This new book is awesome from the very first word to the fantastic HEA. If you’re looking for vampire romance then this is the best! Ms Adrian imbues her characters with deep relatable emotions, and edge of seat action keeps the story rushing forward. Be warned... You will not want to put it down!

Great first book in the new Hunter Legacy storyline!
Asher has had an existence of extremes and brutality.
Enter Naomi who has not had the best of childhoods but is determined to provide a safe place for kids in need.
Excitement, danger and fan the flames chemistry makes for a can't put down read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

I received an ARC in exchange for promise of an honest review. No problem, I finished it in one night since I could not put it down. The story of Asher, one of the formerly enslaved hunters created by the evil Dragos, is fast-moving and a worthy addition to the stories of the Breed. As usual, Lara does not disappoint. Be warned there is explicit sex.

I don't know where to start here. I guess I should say first, it was an entertaining book. Nice sexy scenes between Asher and Naomi. It was edited well.

But I was hugely disappointed. I'm a romance reader. I read pretty much any kind of romance but paranormal romance is a favorite. It was the subgenre that lead me to read romance at all. To this day, I love me a good vampire romance and Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series was one of my first and favorites. I loved nearly the entire series, until after the revelation and the kids started having romances, but it was still good.

This spinoff is like a fan fiction set in the Midnight Breed universe. In fact, I am pretty sure that the story could have been contemporary romance or romantic suspense if you just changed the main characters. The casino plot line was weak. And the romance was way too sudden and rushed. I didn't feel it at all.

After Cain's visit to Asher, I kind of think he's a bit stupid. I mean, hello? Sure let's go see Michael for such a flimsy reason and put everyone in danger after Cain FOUND you. Uh, duh? Yes, Naomi was lacking intelligence there too but she didn't have a big warning ahead of time. And as the girl was safely with her roommate, there wasn't any emergency need to go like Tyler being left at the doctors office. The whole plot was very predictable because of this. You knew exactly what was going to happen. Naomi was fearing a freaking car accident? Really? Was she high? He just helped rob a dangerous casino mobster type person and you seriously are only worried and thinking car accident?!!!

I could go on about how less than brilliant these two were regarding the danger they were in. Just saying, Tyler needed help yes, go get him, but sure go home alone with a kid after nearly being killed a couple days ago by the people of the guy you just robbed! Again! When your roomie is missing. And of course, walk right into the casino to cave into his threats. Uh, yeah. Because he's totally going to let you go. But sure Cain had to warn her...

Other than some blood drinking and a breedmate talent, this book wasn't paranormal romance and had no actual bigger plot. I almost didn't care how the book ended, I was that devastated. It doesn't even seem to be written by the same author as the first Midnight Breed novels.

I sincerely hope that the next book makes up for this one.

I received an advance copy for my official review.

I really enjoyed this book. Asher and Naomi were an unexpected couple. Both with dark pasts that can come back and destroy the lives they are trying to build. Many twists and turns.

I will recommend this book to everyone who loves her books and if your looking for something new.

I just have questions as to how all these others hunters escaped the program?

For those of us who have read the Midnight Breed series, we know about the Hunter program. But a little more insight into the day-to-day happenings would have been good. Especially when discussing how Asher got his name. Other than that, this was a good start to the series.

I really like the Asher/Naomi story. The kids, the desert, the disguises - made for great reading. I loved the description of how Asher was "accidentally" kind of tamed by a lovely old man. And of course there's has to be an adorable pet. Can't wait for more.

What an amazing first book in this new spinoff series! Asher has things he's done in the past that still haunt him. Naomi is finding herself deeper in trouble in her quest for revenge. When these two finally come together it's explosive!

Born of Darkness is the first book in the Hunter Legacy series from Lara Adrian. This series is a spin off of the Midnight Breed series (one of my favorite series) and is the story of Asher (a Gen One Breed) and Naomi.
This was a great read and a great introduction to the Hunter Legacy collection. I am already anxious to read the next one!
Another wonderful addition to the Midnight Breed world from Ms. Adrian.

Lara Adrian’s new spinoff does not disappoint. I was hooked from the very beginning and was not let down. It was great to dive back into the familiar world of the Gen Ones but from a whole new time line point from the original series.

The hero is huge. Giant. The heroine is child size. Smh. I don’t get it. If you’re gonna have such a tall hero why not have a heroine that is 5’9,10? A heroine that people mistake for a child is so ridiculous to me.
