little disappointed with the book overall. Book suposed to be about raphael's mother awaking-BUT reality is
lijuan is playing in deep mind game with all the cadre-but caliane is waking up too causing issues- bit of mix up
then the usual drama- elena with her family namely idiot father those issues are getting old with more tidbits
enough all ready- did or did not elena mother kill herself and why after period time- etc..
find out where hunter blood line comes from- because one of little sisters has the ability- but her mom fighting for her-more open wounds for elena- but guild family steps up. then the relationship between raphael and elena is progressing at a wonderful pace-but elena thought she be at home new york but she's not and that comes thru
more training- more tidbits about raphael's seven which at this point and time all i can gather is not one of them have even been happy - and illium's mom- please ms singh give us a happy being somewhere in this seris otherwise it is getting irratating-little things like elena gets an invite from hannah but elena has to answer it due to protcol.
holly chang metion again these little side steps made up for letdown with main story line BUT IT IS WORTH THE READ

Another captivating installment to the Guild hunter series with a new mysterious danger on the horizon. I like the continuation of Elena & Raphael as the main characters of these books, and find myself enraptured by the deep nature of their warrior relationship that still holds all the fire of the first book.

Is it possible we have been wrong all these years, that Archangels have just as much if not more emotional turmoil than the humans they have protected? Or is that connection to their humanity the strength that makes them what they are, powerful yet dangerously volatile.
Allegiance of Honor (Psy-Changeling Novel, A) :: Mine to Possess (Psy-Changelings - Book 4) (Psy/Changeling Series) :: Archangel's Heart (A Guild Hunter Novel) :: Visions of Heat (Psy-Changelings, Book 2) :: Angels' Flight: A Guild Hunter Collection

***3.5 stars***
Both main characters spend a lot of time in this story helping each other deal with personal family issues, it felt like the story got bogged down sometimes.

The blossoming relationship between Elena and Raphael was well done, they are still finding their way as a couple, there is romance and steamy love scenes as expected, but it is not overdone and works well with the storyline.

The quality of this e book is great. No errors making it easy and fun to read.

The storyline is exciting and romantic. Nalini should be proud of this great story where you can picture her character's so vividly and feel their emotions as if they were your own. I have found a new favorite author. :-)

I got hooked on N. Singh's Guild Hunter series with this first one I read, picked up to read purely by chance. It was slow getting into it, but once I got to know her characters better, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Everything about this book felt incomplete. There's a ton of build-up to Rafael's mother, the powerful & insane archangel, waking from her "Sleep" that ultimately goes nowhere. We're given glimpses into the backgrounds of the other Seven, but not even one of those stories is fleshed-out. Elena spends 1/2 of the book bemoaning her relationship with her father & her mother's death. Since these issues are explored in the previous books, I could have done without all the repetition. While her childhood trauma was horrific, her continued issue with her father is becoming a distraction. She's an adult, lots of people have crappy fathers & it's time for her to move on (or at least suffer off screen).

Since this book marked Elena's re-entry into society, it could have been much better. I wish less time was spent on Elena's post-traumatic stress & Rafael and Elena having sex (way too much), and there was more development of the Caliene story.

Elena's divided loyalties with Rafael & her job bothered me. I understand her keeping Rafael's confidences, but she's a quasi-law enforcement officer for a human agency who is keeping critical information from human law enforcement. With that kind of conflict of interest, it is irresponsible for her to continue working in that capacity & putting her human loved ones at risk.

I still really like Rafael, however, and watching him adapt to make his relationship with Elena work is touching. I'm also interested in the other Seven, and the teasers about them have me optimistic we'll be hearing more about them.

The action related to the plot of this book consists of less than a chapter. The remainder of the book is filled with repetitive sex scenes in which Raphael "fists" Elena's hair as he nips her breasts. The interesting parts of each of their characters from the initial book has been submerged in trite romance genre. Skip this one.

Wasn't looking for a harlequin sex tale, but there's lots of that here. Take out a chapter's worth of explicit sexual content and it's a decent read. Unfortunately, the sex is spread out in almost every chapter. Adults only. Probably written for primarily female audience. Males are big, ripped and not so smart. Sorry, but that's the way it reads.

I enjoyed this book, like I do each and every Nalini Singh that I have read. However, I felt this book was incomplete -- that it was just a "setup" for the next book in the series. Before, each book completed with "problem solved" - this time, definitely not. We were left with two possible villains for the next book. Nothing was resolved. Nalini, I love your books but you could have done better with this one. I will give you 4 stars because I enjoyed the book but you don't get 5 stars because you just set us up for your next book.

SIXTEEN pages IN A ROW of explicit sex that takes up the ENTIRE 12th chapter and was only about one encounter. Seriously? Like most women, I am nowhere near a prude, but I want the dang story, not wasteful porn. Nalini, you CAN write, but this is not good. Are you purposely trying to waste space here?

See, now I feel that was a huge waste of my money because all I did was skip over it. Then, FOURTEEN solid pages of sex again a bit later on. I can deal with a couple of pages of an encounter, but entire freaking chapters? Pages and pages and pages? Ridiculous. Finish up, smoke a cigarette and MOVE ON to the rest of the story. I don't give a crap if those two have 140 orgasms between them or not. I have never seen this in any other series. I will not pay for a book where I have to skip most chapters because someone doesn't know when to quit.

I skip over all the sex scenes. If the author would completely tone it down to less than two pages & stick with her great storytelling, this series would be 100 times better.
There are NO warnings of sexual content in these books nor are the books in this series listed under erotica instead of just "romance". If I had known, I'd have read something else and moved on right passed this series. The author needs to choose one or the other. Countless pages of erotica (sex) or a good paranormal story with normal romance. You cannot stick these books (especially this one) in just paranormal romance. Please warn readers.

I praised the first book, but this third installment is mostly repetitive information as well. When you try to make each book in a series self sufficient so they can hold their own if read out of sequence, you run the risk of pissing off the readers. Most do not want to pay for information already told. Pure filler.

Also, what's up with the archangels?
It's almost like every single archangel in the cadre are murderous schitzo' s.
All of them are nuts, save Raphael and possibly Elijah. Even Raphaels mother is a fruit loop.
Uh, kinda scary thinking these angels dominate over the humans yet all of them are mental.
Not my favorite. Was disappointed with this book tremendously. I will have to read many reviews of the next book to see if the author pulled the same thing with the XXX scenes. If so, I'm done.
I want a story. Not porn.

I honestly cringed everytime the two main characters were alone in a room together because we were now going to be treated to another sex scene. It got to the point where it would be 6 pages of plot then 4 pages of sex. I like a lot more plot in my books. I'm not a prude in any sense of the word but enough is enough. Doubt I will continue with this series.

~ 3 Archangel’s Consort Stars ~

Archangel’s Consort is book three in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh.

Archangel’s Consort was not as engaging as the previous two. It felt a little slow, not as action packed, and the build up for the ending turned out to be rather disappointing. Their where also a little to many sex scenes which lead to some boredom, not because they weren’t hot or written well, they where; just that their was too many of them.

As for the Ancient who is awakening. I was expecting a little more on this front. We get a lot of build up along the way and a confrontation at the end, but it was acutely rather small and anticlimactic.

I do like how the relationship between Elena and Raphael is developing. It’s not an easy perfect relationship, they argue and have disagreements, but they always find a way to resolve or make a compromise. I like this, how it shows that although they love each other it doesn’t automatically make it perfect and easy.

Elena is also learning to navigate the world of angels and vampires. She is doing her best to get up to speed and become stronger. Raphael’s character is becoming more “mortal” rather then an arrogant archangel. I like how the author is giving us more on both Elena and Raphael showing the changes they are going threw as they evolve/develop.

The world building is spectacular and I am in LOVE with the Seven. We get more of the Seven. They are mysterious, sexy, and lethal. Their are so many questions about them and hopeful we will get their stories one day. The character development is amazing with the district personalities and realistic dialogue. We also explore the immortality, though it’s highly sought after, it’s not always everything.

Archangel’s Consort wasn’t what I have come to expect and love from Singh, but it was still worth reading. This is still one of my favorite series and I can’t wait to pick up the next book.

4.5 Stars... Elena and Raphael battle their inner demons while attempting to maintain order and peace in their world in this sensual, sexy, smart, and action packed addition to the Guild Hunter Series... Once again, Nalini Singh immereses her readers in this beautifully dangerous and deadly world of the Archangels, while continuing to build this fragile yet deepening bond between her Archangel and Guild Hunter as they navigate their enemies’ plots to destroy them... Filled with both heartbreaking and heartfelt moments that touch the reader on an emotional level while creating a mental picture of beauty, life, love, and death this book takes the reader on an extraordinary journey... I continue to be captivated by this unique series:)

Gosh, how I enjoy reading this series. Especially about Elena and Raphael. They truly are one of my all time fav couples. They simply support each other so well and their love is unbreakable. Even when it at times seems that one might be in a bad and cold place, the other doesn't give up and pulls till they see light again. Their journey is amazing and this new adventure hits very close to Raphael's past and heart. We also get to see more of China's archangel, who developed into something else than what we'd call a living creature. Death is her friend and she will use it to get what she wants and in the end that is always going to be more power. There are some hints about how the story will continue in the six book and I already know that the action is going to be epic! Besides her, I loved Bluebell and the slight introduction to his mother, so touching! Also we get to see more of Elena's past and family drama and what the Guild thinks of her new form of being.

I really loved the story and I cannot wait to get into the next story. :)

This series has been so great so far, it’s ridiculous how easy it is to mob through these books! The plot of this one, while entertaining, seemed to falter a bit. Don't get me wrong, still entertaining and definitely worth reading, but it seems as if it was almost starting to get somewhat stagnant.

The story is still focused on Elena and Raphael. Not just on their developing relationship, but also a world gone crazy with the awakening of Raphael’s mother. Talk about the ultimately terrifying Mother-in-Law! Elena continues to grow into her own as both an angel and an archangel, and while the dynamic between the two continues to grow it’s really the other characters that intrigue me the most. I really want to see what happens with Illium and Dimitri.

The conclusion of this story was somewhat anticlimactic in my opinion. This huge build up and then….well anyway, you’ll figure it out for yourself and come to your own conclusions!

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Heidi

The last time Raphael saw his mother, she left him bloody and broken in a desolate field over a thousand years ago. Nobody knows for sure what happened to Caliane after that, but there are several rumors floating around.

Now strange things are happening. From vampires and angels acting unusually violent to extreme weather plaguing the world and causing mass destruction. Things that are rumored to happen when a sleeping ancient awakes. Could it be Caliane coming back to claim her son?

I honestly don’t know what’ wrong with me. I love Nalini Singh. I thoroughly enjoyed her Psy-Changeling series. There were always a few installments here and there that didn’t speak to me, but overall it’s a great series. Now I’m reading Guild Hunter. So far, the only one I’ve liked is the first one, Angels’ Blood. These last two have been pretty dull for me and I just can’t figure out why I haven’t been able to get into them. Especially when it seems like everybody else has loved them!

I found much of the storyline of Archangel’s Consort to be a recycled rendition of book 2, Archangel’s Kiss. Somebody is killing innocents and they have to figure out who it is, only to realize it’s some powerful being that they are unsure if they can defeat. The only difference is that Singh added a few familial elements; Raphael’s mom and the discovery about Elena’s sister, Evelyn.

There was more sex in this installment. The initial few sex scenes made me groan though because I hate how bossy and uncompromising Raphael can be in intimate situations; like it’s admitting some kind of defeat by doing what Elena wants once in awhile. He did get better later in the book, but I’m sure it will continue to come up throughout the series. But we did finally get to see how angels dance :) .

There is still no resolution with Lijuan. She continues to be a threat and they can never seem to neutralize her. I feel that we are going to be in a repetitive cycle with the storylines until she is taken care of. Now we’ve added another all powerful being in the form of Raphael’s mom. And, for the moment she seems like she won’t be a problem, but that could change in a blink of an eye.

I really hope that we get a new plot in the next installment, Archangel’s Blade, and that I can get back to really enjoying the series.

I started reading this story years ago, when the first book in the series came out (Angel’s Blood) and I loved it and the sequel (Archeangel’s Kiss). Unfortunately, by the time this one came out, I was already into the M/M genre and girly bits were not my thing. By the time I went back to m/f, the series was already on book 7 and I was thinking there’s no way I’d have the time to read such a long series (because of course I’d have to reread books 1 & 2 to remind myself what happened). But then the last book in the Guild Hunter series came out, which made me WANT to read it again and I finally took the plunge and decided to catch up with this series.

I’m so glad I did because I forgot how much I adored this world. Elena and Raphael aren’t exactly my favorite m/f couple but they’re definitely hot and I love the dynamics between them. Aside from the fact that Raphael is a scary-ass archangel who has no issues dishing out brutal punishment, I liked that Elena was a warrior and so independent. She’s not the traditional heroine so it was interesting to see her get accustomed to her role as an archangel’s consort on top of being a newly made angel AND being the only Guild Hunter who WAS an angel. It was refreshing to see her struggle so much but also to see how much Raphael adores Elena.

I was a little nervous with the plot of the story because bitchy mothers aren’t exactly something I’m excited about but I liked that this one led so much into how powerful Raphael’s mother was and the destruction her waking was causing. It was interesting to see how the world was affected by it and starting to see the affects of how much Elena is changing Raphael, their journey to realizing that and using it when the time came (you’ll understand when you read it).

I enjoyed this story but I had two big issues. Mainly there was too much sex for me but also, I felt like the story dragged sometime in the middle. I was expecting things to progress faster but for a little bit, nothing really happened.

All in all, this was still a great story. I’m glad I went back to the series because it’s pushed me to want to continue reading the others and finally get to the other Seven! If you like books with angels, passion and suspense, definitely give this one a go!

You will not be disappointed. Singh somehow outdoes herself with each sequel. Your heart will run overflow with the gamut of evocative emotions from grief to joy , from pain to pleasure. Her recreation of angel lore and vampirism is heady and fascinatingly original. Each character draws you in to where you fantasize them as main characters in their own series (a wish I'd love to see come true). Singh describes her world in a way that is as tangible as it is fantastic! I give her the highest of praises. She is a true gem for the PNR genre and indubitably one of my favorites. This series is a winner and I'll cherish its stories as one of my favorite series as well!

Elena returns home with Raphael to Manhattan and begins trying to reconcile her old life with her new - preparing to resume her duties as Guild Hunter in addition to being mate to the dangerous immortal archangel. Her wings have not made her life any easier, not with her estranged father, and not with the other immortals including Raphael's inner circle of seven who still see her as a liability to Raphael. But when "something wicked this way comes" and a `sleeper' begins to rouse - causing floods, quakes and storms, and stirring immortals to bloodlust and rage - Raphael's love for Elena may not be a weakness but the key to the world's salvation.

Even after three books I still really love Elena and Raphael, individually and together. Despite the more urban fantasy feel of some of the early offerings, there's lots of one on one time for Elena and Raphael this time round to swing Angel's Consort firmly into the PNR camp. A fair amount of that time is really really steamy, including an "angel's dance" which in itself adds that something extra to the wonderful elements that winged beings bring to Singh's world. Fortunately, even though the passion remains explosive between the pair, Raphael still is otherworldly and at times frightening - I would have been so disappointed if he'd suddenly turned fluffy and cherubic - he is softened only by the 'touch' of humanity his love for Elena lends him. So despite the disparity between the eons old Archangel and the newly made angel, that love does give Elena a power with Raphael, and Elena is not going to meekly surrender to her beloved immortal - luckily she's got an eternity to bridge the difference.

While I do truly love the passion between Elena and Raphael, I would have been willing to give up a couple of their love scenes - yes, sacrilege to romance readers everywhere to even mention it - in order to have seen just a bit more of some of the supporting players in their world. They are all so wonderful. Here there is just a taste of Ashwini, a mention of Janvier, and only a moderate amount of Illium, Dmitri, Venom and Jason - along with teasing whisper of hints at their stories. I think that Singh provided all the intense face time with Elena and Raphael to get us ready for the shift in focus from Elena and Raphael - though she promises more of their story - as Archangel's Blade, coming in September, will move vampire Dmitri to the spotlight.

The third book in the Archangel series, this book is 4-4.5 stars. I have been frustrated in the past by the novels because of the shallowness of the "love" between Raphael and Elena, as well as by the lack of growth in Elena's other personal relationships. This book solved those problems for me and helped me see that Nalini Singh is planning on a longer development of the relationships and characters. I appreciate that, since many romance/UF novels fall prey to the very unrealistic development of true love over the course of 300 pages.

Archangel's Consort, while certainly not gripping or intense, was definitely a foreshadowing of things to come.

What I liked:
I especially enjoyed the story lines with the secondary characters, like Ilium and Aodhan. NS gives us glimpses into characters' pasts and we start to find out what makes the angels tick. The relationship between Elena and Raphael is beautiful and supportive in this book. It feels much more real than it has in the other books. I LOVED that NS put a decent amount of the story from Raphael's perspective. He is a foreign, otherworldly character and it helps to understand things from his point of view. I liked the world building and the foreshadowing of problems to come.

What I didn't love:

The plot could have used a little bump up. It was somewhat meandering and this book was not a page-turner for me. It was definitely enjoyable but not really intense, except for a little at the end. I hope the next book has better plot because the fairly steady relationship between Elena and Raphael + a lukewarm plot could lead to the series getting boring. I liked this book partly because I think it set the stage for a good conflict or two in the following book.

Read this: If you read the first two, even if you didn't like them. This is definitely different from the first two books. Don't read this if you want a action-packed read, or if you haven't read the first two books.

In this installment, things slow down a bit in some ways to focus more on the relationship development, but I sorta expected that with the title of the book and all. Rafael and Elena must learn to be a couple. That being said, it by no means skimps on the conflict, the mystery and the action elements that were a welcome presence in the first two. It was definitely more passionate and when is that ever a bad thing?

Rafael, Elena and the gang have survived all the Lijuan through at them and now they come home for a time of recuperation and catching up on more mundane affairs. Instead they discover that odd stuff is happening all over the world including their own backyard. An ancient is awakening. Rafael is convinced it is his mother and he worries that she'll comeback more powerful and more insane than ever. Elena is kept busy investigating mysterious vampire attacks that hit real close to home affecting even her estranged family. Is Calianne targeting Elena and her family to get her son back?

As I said, the plot focus on this one is a bit different, but in no way lesser than the others. The pace did drag a bit in places. As much as I love smexy times with Rafael and Elena, I felt like it was such a regular occurrence that it was every other scene and broke up the rhythm of the story sometimes. Some of the smaller plots were really strong too. I loved that Elena got some Guild time and I enjoyed the tension stuff with her family. There were more clues fed about Elena's past and secret stuff about her heritage. I am so vested to see where that will go.

But always, the best part is the characters, their development and their interactions that are the strength of this series for me. Loved seeing the struggles and the trust build between Rafael and Elena and other relationships begin or strengthen too.

Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Ohhhh, Archangel's Consort. Where do I start? I have fawned over the cover for a long time, counted down the days for your release since I finished with Archangel's Kiss. I don't want to say that I am completely disappointed, but it didn't live fully up to my expectations.

The Bad: The "Archangel"/"Hunter" call-and-answer between Raphael and Elena every other page drove me bananas. This call-and-answer happened so many time throughout the first half of the book that I was smacking my own self in frustration. I cannot imagine communicating with my husband like that! It would go something like this... Me: "IT Director" DH: "ProgramManager". Yes, I get it, this is a fantasy world, but come on! Raphael and Elena are beautiful names! You don't have to use them all the time, you can have pet names, but not every other page. Please! Also, the first part of the book I really struggled to stay engaged. I just didn't know where the overall plot was going and I still can't really tell you. The first two books of the series I found to be so very fast-paced, so this was a stark contrast to what I'd expected. We learn more about Raphael's mother and how her "re-awakening" might be behind some frightening and erratic behavior among other members of the Cadre. She might also be behind the murders of vampires & people, including two children. But she might not be the most terrible monster in this story, because remember the monster from the last book still exists...

The Good: Nalini Singh is a masterful world builder and fantasy character creator. The images she creates of Raphael and his Seven, the beauty of their wings and bodies, all the different colors and and vivid imagery are superb and unmatched. We get more of Dmitri and the Seven and each character is so different and unique physically and temperamentally. I feel as though I am with Elena as she struggles to get better at using her wings. I love her growing determination and insistence to not allow Raphael plow right over her with his demands. When Elena and Raphael finally "dance", that is just magnificently hot. We see Raphael and Elena's relationship mature as they learn to give and take. Elena flexes her muscles and demands Raphael treat her not as a weakling to be ordered around but as an equal. This is one of my favorite "ohhh snap!" moments, where big arrogant badass Archangel Raphael gets told:

"I'm marking out a piece of the house as my own territory."

A cool pause. "I will not allow you to put distance between us, Elena."

She'd seen that one coming, was more than ready to handle it. "I need a place where I can slam the door in your face when I'm mad. I'm pretty sure both of us would prefer that place be here and not elsewhere."

All in all, I consider this a lull in the overall series but am definitely not discouraged from the series at all. You know I will still be counting down the days for the next book, Archangel's Blade due out later this year, and will probably squee when the cover is released too, if it's anything as gorgeous as this one. I definitely do not recommend reading this book standalone. If anything because the first two books (Angels' Blood & Archangel's Kiss) are so much better, but also because there is too much backstory you'll miss to follow this.

I absolutely love the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh so when I got this one for Christmas so I was stoked to get it but as usual my other books got in the way and I didn't read this one until the other day.It was so awesome to finally get back into this series as I had finished the preceding book back in October of 2012 and I really missed Elena, Rafael and the other regular characters that appear in these books.

After the way the last book left off I knew something major was going to happen in this one and I was so not disappointed. I've come to really love the way Nalini Singh develops her stories for this series of Urban Fantasy novels. The way she builds such intricate plot lines and brings them to fruition and ties everything together is genius and I never know how things are going to turn out for Elena, and now her mate, the archangel Rafael.

Again in this book she was able to bring her characters to life and combine that with an excellent plot line to bring about such a successful series. The author's consistency also helped aid in the telling of Archangel's Consort. There is a seamless flow from one novel to the next so it feels all the more put together.

This book though was my most favourite of the ones I've read so far. There was a lot more action, political undercurrents and brutality than the other books. I also liked seeing how Elena is progressing as a newly made angel and seeing her relationship with Rafael develop even though I don't really care for him that much. For me, Elena is the star of this series and her smarts, wit, and intelligence makes her one of my favourite female characters because she doesn't take crap from any body not even her mate.

I also enjoyed the way that Nalini Singh is using angels, archangels, and vampires in this series. I especially find the angel lore intriguing and the way she relays the histories, myths and legends in little pieces is really neat because ultimately it gives a better perspective of the book as a whole.

With lots of bloodshed, and a few painful trips down memory lane for both Elena and Rafael we follow them as they deal with the repercussions of a sleeping archangel who just happens to be Rafael's once insane mother slowly waking and reeking havoc across the world as well a Elena deals with the ghost of her own dead mother as well as her prick of a father along with the knowledge that as an angel she will out live all those she holds dear.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic third book in the Guild Hunter series and I honestly think that it's a prime example of Urban Fantasy at it's best. There was sex, murder, adventure drama and some light hearted moments that helped to bring the story together. The way that the whole story unraveled was great and surprised me quite a bit because I wasn't expecting it to turn out the way it did. I loved seeing the characters change and evolve and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I highly recommend Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series to everyone who wants to read an Urban Fantasy book with a kick ass heroine, awesome plot lines, great characters and angels. The action will suck you in and have you reading late into the night.

This is the third book in the Guild Hunter series. It opens with Elena returning to New York and getting ready to start to reclaim her life - with a few additions. However, the plans for her return quickly change when a vampire attacks a school that her two half-sisters attend. Reconnecting with her friends has to be fit in around a world dealing with crazy weather and vampires going rogue and giving into blood lust in record numbers - signs that one of the Ancient Sleeping angels may be waking.

The story line through most of the book was pretty good. I like watching Elena and Raphael figure out the balance of their relationship - she so much weaker than him in every way, but determined not to be coddled any more than necessary. They certainly reached a more healthy balance than they had at the beginning of book 2.

There were some interesting developments with her family, as she finally gets to interact with her step mother and half sisters for the first time since she moved out - and none of them wound up being quite what she expected. Her relationship with her remaining full sister changed as well.

One thing I was quiet thankful to see changed was a drastic reduction in the flashbacks to the unpleasant memories of her childhood. They were still there, but at a more reasonable level.

I didn't care for the ending it felt rushed and the big revelation left me going "Wait, what?". It will be interesting how the balance of power among the archangels settles out in the next book.

It is time for Vampire Hunter Elena to return to New York and let the world see the changes she has gone through but as nothing ever goes smoothly for the couple they soon find themselves caught up in the hunt of their lives. As more and more vampires are taken over by bloodlust they quickly realise that all is not what it seems, a powerful enemy is rising, a face from Raphael's past that he hoped never to see again and one who is determined to get Elena out of the way. Even working together this enemy may be too strong for them, their only hope is to defeat them before they regain their full power but that would mean breaking one of the most ancient angelic laws.

I'm a huge fan of this series and I really enjoyed this instalment of Elena and Raphael's adventures. Elena is still coming to grips with her immortality and the new abilities she gained when she became an angel. Although she is stronger and heals faster than she ever did as a human she is still weak compared to other angels and even the older vampires who protect Raphael. She is determined to train as hard as possible though because she doesn't want to be seen as Raphael's weakness but anyone who knows how much he cares for her automatically sees her as a target. It isn't easy for her to adjust to her new life, she is still learning the rules and learning what her body is now capable of but she is just as brave and determined as she ever was. She may be weaker than her enemies but she refuses to back down and wants to stand by Raphael. The two of them will always be stronger together than they are separately and I love that although they are both uncertain when it comes to relationships and find it difficult to trust they work together to overcome their issues.

We learn a lot more about both of their pasts in this book and discover a lot about their families that make us question things we thought we already knew. Elena has always had a very poor relationship with her father (I can't stand the man!) but although they are a long way from a close father / daughter relationship we do see a glimmer of hope that he isn't all bad. One new thing that Elena has to contend with though is the mother-in-law from hell, seriously if you think your MIL is bad she's got nothing on Caliane! Of course Elena isn't going to put up with crap from anyone and there are some really amusing moments where she stands up for both herself and Raphael. We already knew that Raphael didn't have the best relationship with his mother but what we find out about his past is heartbreaking and goes a long way to explaining why he is so closed off to the people around him. He is lucky to have his Seven to rely on but it is Elena who has really started to bring him out of himself. Raphael has changed so much from when we first met him, he is still dangerous and he still scares the crap out of me sometimes but he can also be so unbelievably sweet and protective over Elena. Their relationship has come on leaps and bounds since they first met but they still have their ups and downs, they have to work hard and find ways to compromise so that they can both be happy but they are both willing to put the effort in.

Archangel's Consort is just as sexy as the first two books in the series, there is no missing the fireworks when Raphael and Elena are in the same room, but there is also a deeper connection between them now that wasn't there in the beginning. We are also getting to learn more about Raphael's Seven and I can't wait to spend more time with each of them. Illium is a particular favourite of mine and I really hope he gets a book of his own at some point but even Dimitri and Venom are growing on me now that I know them better. Alongside the hot sex and great character development Nalini Singh has created a fast moving plot that had me gripping the pages. I didn't want the story to end and I'm just relieved that I already have the next book waiting for me to read it. This remains one of my favourite paranormal series and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Redonk Nutshell: A powerful and threatening ancient Archangel is awakening, casting chaos and disarray across the world and testing the balance between an Archangel and his consort

Book three in the Guild Hunters series picks up after the destruction of another Archangel's home in book two. Newly made angel, Elena, and her lover, Archangel Raphael, come back to Manhattan and begin to settle into their home. Elena is more adjusted to her physical form, and she and Raphael have begun to shift into more emotional territory. Like moving in together. And meeting each other's parents.

Which brings us to the main conflict - Raphael's mother. The ancient and unfathomably powerful Archangel is showing signs of waking from her Sleep. The Cadre of Ten is nervous - Caliane was a NUTJOB before she disappeared, wrecking havoc amongst her people, including her son. Raphael is torn between his initial urge to welcome his mother and his more rational and detached duty to put her down before she becomes an unstoppable problem. Then, of course, there's Elena, whom most of Raphael's fellows view as a weakness. And Elena, in typical Elena-style, works her hardest to prove them otherwise.

When vampires and angels across the globe being behaving erratically, The Guild calls in their hunter-turned-angel to figure out what's going on, and before long Elena and Raphael realize the bizarre occurrences happening around them are linked to his mother's likely revival.

Book Three is probably one of the strongest in the series. We get a stronger Elena, a softer yet still terrifying Raphael, and, most importantly MORE ILLIUM. HA! I've tendered a soft spot for Blue Bell, the blue winged angel who views Elena's "mortal heart," as not a weakness but a strength. He's witty yet broody, and he and Elena hit it off well. We get to see another side of Raphael as well.

If I'm being honest, Raphael is the kind of hero that initially didn't catch my interest but gradually grew on me. I'd say probably about halfway into book two it struck me how incredibly AWESOME he is, and not just in the slang type of way, but Biblical as well. It was almost like an epiphany - oh, he's scary, really scary, yet SEXY. I get it now! Elena grew on me more as well. And the relationship between Elena and Raphael really blooms here in Archangel's Consort.

The Guild Hunter series has become a favorite of mine. Great characters, both main and supporting, and a really intriguing world structure. Nalini Singh has proved herself to be a talented writer, able to carry a broad story line amid a complex and dark world.

What an odd novel! Instead of the awkwardly paced combination of multiple plots in Archangel's Kiss or the stronger single plot in Angels' Blood, Archangel's Consort is almost plotless. Sure, events happen--lots of people die horrifically; the world seems to be in danger; Raphael's mother, the mad archangel Caliane, might be awakening--but none of it really seems that *urgent.* Overall, Singh seems more interested in revealing and exploring more details on Elena and Raphael's families and pasts, while dropping hints about the secondary characters' families, pasts, and love interests and throwing in sex scenes to remind everyone that Elena and Raphael are still madly in love/lust/psychic magic connection.

No one seems particularly bothered by the fact that Lijuan blew Beijing off the map at the end of the last novel. The characters spend time thinking about the horrors of individual deaths and tragedies in their pasts and presents, but--you'd think at least once they'd go, wow, a whole city. Gone. Poof. Massive catastrophic above-Hiroshima levels of instant obliteration of life.

But they don't. Apparently no one cares. Maybe absolutely everyone in Beijing was out of town that day, and there were no casualties, just a bit of rehousing inconvenience and economic upheaval. Damned if I know!

Still, I liked this better than the second book, because no plotline and weird slice of life works better than failed plotline, for me. I'm getting tired of Raphael going I'M AN ALPHA STAY HERE and Elena going NO I WON'T and then their repeating that conversation over and over and over, but--well. I wasn't expecting much different.

Archangel's Consort the third in Nalini Singh's Hunter's Guild Series promises much. Fortunately, Ms Singh delivers. This was an ambition third book about Raphael and Elena. When one writes a series based on two main characters it is easy to get repetitive. To intrigue the readers with a promise of something then once the story gets going it's the same old same old. Writing a fresh new book and yet maintaining the characters the readers love is a tightrope act and Ms Singh manages it without a net.

Raphael and Elena have left the Refuge, have battled Lijuan and won. While Elena remains an immortal with a human heart it seems The Seven and the Cadre both wonder at Raphael's "humanity". He gets injured easier and doesn't heal as fast and yet Raphael willingly accepts the changes. To him the trade off of a life with Elena is well worth it. He does have to accept that Elena is not a gentle soul, she is hunter born and she must work.

Elena, no matter that she is secure in Raphael's love and can hold her own in just about any situation still trembles at the mess of her family life. Betrayed by a father who wouldn't accept her she still needs to care for them. Finding out her sister's school was attacked and two children murdered, one looking suspiciously like her youngest sister sends Elena's protective mode into overdrive. She is determined to find the monsters who would hurt children. Then she finds that her father has been keeping secrets and it almost breaks her

The hunt is on and yet it seems there is more in the wind. Earthquakes, Tsunami's, Hurricanes.. one natural disaster after another an ancient is waking and no one is sure who it is or whether that immortal will awake to madness. The immortal community fear it is Raphael's mother an ancient before he was ever born. Having gone to sleep more than once and the last time being just a wee bit mad when she went. After the battle with Lijuan no one is sure they will be even able to neutralize a true ancient. And yet, the rules demand.. when an ancient is sleeping one does not hunt them down and kill them. They must be allowed to awake.

There is scheming and intrigue, politics and hints of war. No one is sure what is going on or who is behind it. Everyone WANTS to blame Caliane (Raphael's mother). The worst part is because when an ancient awakes, the weather is effected, acting like a barometer. The stronger the Angel the worse the side affects. Strong stable angels acting out of character. Whacko ones, well they just get wackier..

Ms Singh leads us on a delightful trip of discovery, decadence and desire. Wrapping her characters in intrigue and drama.. teasing us with one scenario and then taking it back and offering another. Temptation is around every corner.. promises made with a sly wink and a lifted brow.. almost daring us to believe. This story is not a fairytale with love and romance wafting around every corner. It is darker, deeper, edgier and yet remains in essence a story of two individuals creating a family. I am so very glad that I gave this series a chance because it twists me up every chance it gets. I would most definitely suggest you read this book, as per my norm I suggest you read the series in order but.. it stands brilliantly on it's own.

Archangels Consort: Elena Deveraux and Archangel Raphael

Summary:

Raphael, Elena, members of Raphael's Seven and the other members of the Cadre have just faced off with the powerful yet crazy Lijuan, in her territory of the Far East. Her entire territory is ravaged from the fight and it may be centuries before it can recover fully from what occurred. Raphael and Elena are really hoping for some down time. This is the first that Elena is returning to New York with wings and Raphael and crew are still doing some rebuilding from the fight with Urem, so some down time would be welcome. However, that does not look like it's going to come to pass. Just as they arrive home, storms start breaking out all around the world; young vampires are breaking contracts and attacking humans. Even the archangels are starting to act erratic. These are all signs that an old one, a truly Ancient archangel is Waking. Raphael has enough on his hands without an Ancient waking and ravaging the world.

Review:

This book continues to where the second book left off. Chronologically it is almost immediately after the fight with Lijuan. Raphael returns to his territory which Dmitri and his Seven held for him while Elena was sleeping and recovering. There are high hopes that things would return to normal and they can get some piece. That does not appear to be in the cards that this time...

Elena in this book is still struggling with her nightmares, she just wishes the torment would end, but each night the dreams come but now she has Raphael to hold onto. Raphael has been great as her rock, she knows she can always turn to him. However, at their return Elena realizes that nothing is the same anymore. Her fellow hunters have been great, Sara will always be there for her, but the rest of the city stares with fascination ay her new wings. N. Singh, did a fantastic job of portraying Elena and her new found immortality realistically. You rarely see how the person that is suddenly immortal handles the transition with Elena you see the struggles she goes through. Your hear wrenches with Elena when she realizes that eventually she is going to have to watch her friends and family pass on. For someone that is as close with her chosen family as Elena is, you know that this hurts her terribly. You also watch Elena continue to struggle with her father, several of their issues come to head in this novel and you watch as two very stubborn people try to deal with each other. Elena has grown quite a bit since the first book. Her determination and grit is very admirable and I have come to truly enjoy Elena.

In this book we are facing Raphael's demons. All signs point to Raphael's mother as being the Ancient One that is arising; when she went into rest she was truly mad. Raphael as a young baby immortal tried to stop his mother and she left him broken in a field. In this book we see Raphael as venerable as we will probably ever see him. On one hand we see Raphael's hope that maybe his mother will wake sane, but you see him battle with the knowledge that she may just be as insane as she was when she when into Rest and if that is the case he will have to finish what he started in the field where she left him bloody and broken. You also see Raphael struggle with allowing Elena to see him in such a venerable position, but in the end she ends up breaking through his icy façade. It was good to see Raphael brought down to an almost human level, well as human as Raphael can get. For most the series so far, there has been a worry regarding Elena making Raphael more mortal but in the end of this book you may have a slight surprise regarding this.

Archangel's Consort is rich, sexy and full of antagonizing conflict. This is a brilliant new addition to the Guild Hunter series and veteran Nalini Singh fans are going to be tickled when reading this story. If you're looking for a new addiction- go no further. You're going to be hooked on Raphael, Illium and Dimitri.

Raphael's insane, ancient mother is rising and wishes to claim her archangel son that she left broken and alone ages ago. She's causing natural disasters and sending vampires into a violent rage on her way back to immortal consciousness- and only one thing stands between her and Raphael.... Elena Deveraux. Elena and Raphael's love is evolving and we get to spend much more time with it in this novel. It is magnificent watching as their raw and passionate relationship deepens.

I was so engrossed in this book. The plot was incredibly unique and I loved the prospect of Raphael's mother awakening. After getting to know these characters in the previous two novels, it was fascinating to be divulged in their pasts. The climatic build up was enthralling and made it impossible to put the book down. Though the ending was rather anticlimactic, it did tie up lose ends.

The characters are beautifully written and three dimensional. Elena's new found immortality is a struggle for her, which makes Singh's interpretation of the supernatural much more believable. Raphael's Seven are becoming more vulnerable and gutsy. I can't say my love for Elena and Raphael is growing, but I can't get enough of Illium and Dimitri and love them more with each story. Honestly, the supporting characters in this series really make this series.

If you loved the first two books, you're going to love the this one. If you have not tried this series yet, you MUST pick up Archangel's Blood and Archangel's Kiss so that you can read this one and really enjoy it. This is a beautiful mesh of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. I highly recommend this series- and if anything, the gorgeous covers are a fantastic addition to any bookshelf. ;)

Hunter-born and newly-Made angel, Elena Deveraux is now the official consort of archangel Raphael. She's still weak and hasn't learned to fully use her wings, but as a Guild Hunter she remains pretty strong. Raphael is as fiercely protective and possessive as ever, keeping watch over Elena as she continues to get strong. But then things start going wrong.

Vampires filled with bloodlust killing with frenzy, illogical and global acts of nature and angels themselves exhibiting violence laced with madness--all are signs pointing to a devastating conclusion. An ancient angel, asleep for ages, is waking again. Caliane, the archangel who bore Raphael and then went insane, is returning. She believes her son is destined for greatness and won't allow a human, even one who is no longer so, to sully her son's essence.

As fearless as Elena is, she has much to fear in the ancient angel who won't be satisfied until Elena is obliterated.

Archangel's Consort is book three in the Guild Hunter series. While it may be read as a standalone, there are details in the story that are explained in previous novels and should be read in sequential order to understand the story more fully.

Nalini Singh has done it again! With her latest turnout in the Guild Hunter story, Elena and Raphael continue their sexy, emotional, rip-roaring ride of a journey. While Elena is now an angel and a warrior to boot, Raphael never ceases to remind her of her weaknesses in general and her lack of strength and status when compared to him. At times, I wanted to beat him over his misogynistic head, but I have to admit that some of his traits are what make him the lethal, Alpha angel that he is. Thankfully, however, he also has a soft spot for his immortal with the mortal heart understanding her compassion even when his status prevents him from acting accordingly.

The sensuality and raw passion between Elena and Raphael is so off-the-charts sizzling, it's a surprise the pages didn't catch fire. This passion combined with the suspenseful plot and the richness of not only the primary characters but the secondary ones as well make this breathtaking and gripping story the reason I have become thoroughly addicted to this series. Archangel's Consort will enthrall those who are fans of Ms. Singh's Psy-Changeling series, those who've begun reading the Guild Hunter novels, and those new to the scene. Thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommended!

Archangel's Consort is the third book in Guild Hunter series, and it continues with Elena & Raphael's lives. I'm a big fan of this series, so it is no shocker that I loved this book. The one thing I love in Ms. Singh's books is that there are so many exciting things going on and there is never a dull moment.

Elena is back in New York , and gets to meet her hunter friends. I loved how everyone reacted towards her wings. She is back to her hunter duties, and still training to be on her best with the help of the Seven (at least some of them). We get to meet Elena's half-sister, Evelyn who is just like her. It would be interesting to read her story in future. We also get to know a little more about Illium's childhood, and I felt so sorry for him. Aodhan is still my favorite, and I'm most excited about his book. The steal of this book no doubt is Raphael. There was a lot more about his history with his parents in this book. Caliane, Raphael's mother, is awakening from her centuries sleep, and the entire book was a built up for that moment. No one knows if she's good or bad, and Raphael has his own doubts.

The relationship between Elena & Raphael is stronger than before. There is trust and honesty between them. I loved seeing them grow emotionally. Raphael doesn't keep a leash on her, and lets her make certain choices. We finally get to see the angels' dance, and I didn't think it would be so sensual. I was thinking like a ball room dancing in the sky but I was so wrong. It couldn't possibly can get any hotter than that.

I seem to have only one complain with this book, and it is same as the last one. The ending was rushed but I liked the fact that Ms. Singh tried to negate that with a well written epilogue. Everything was tied neatly, therefore this book deserves a 5 star rating. I loved it and strongly recommend it to everyone. It is one of the best series I've picked up this year, and will re-read it in coming years.

I was again thrilled beyond measure that the series continues with Raphael and Elena. I won’t repeat the happiness I felt at it.

The Good:

As before the love and passion between Raphael and Elena keep me going in this book, but I’ve already gone on and on about that during book two’s review. So I’m going to point out the fact that Nalini Singh also kept me guessing throughout this one as to whether or not it WAS Raphael’s mother rising or what was going on. They hinted it, then they hinted it wasn’t, then again it was, and so on. So by the time everything came together you had no idea what was going on. Made finishing this novel a must!

The Bad:

As always, not much other than I really, really wanted more!

5 stars once again!

Reviewed at Another Look Book Reviews

As I progress through each book does it get predictable that I say, "Oh this one was my favourite."??? Because I think that Archangel's Consort may be my favourite yet.

I love that although Raphael and Elena have been together since the first book, Angel's Blood, this third book is when I truly see them as married. Well, as married as angels get. I do like the spin on the word "Consort" and how it all just wraps up in a nice perfect package. Elena and Raphael are very much in love and I'm loving how much they are in love!

The entire book, Archangel's Consort, is a story where Raphael's very ancient and powerful mother, Caliane is waking up from a "sleep". It appears that due to how old and ancient Caliane was she started to go insane when Raphael was just a young angel. As a result, she put herself to sleep secretly hidden away. This self induced "sleep" is a gamble on whether she'll wake even more mad or cured of her madness. Regardless when Caliane does fully wake, she will be the most powerful archangel that ever was. As the reader, you are never quite sure how this state is going to turn out. Are all the catastrophic world events that are occurring on each of the continents leading up to her wakening? Is that an indication of how crazy Caliane is going to be? Nothing was ever written the ancient texts to base this event on.

Elena is still quite weak in terms of how an immortal angel gauges strength. She can't fly for long distances yet but she is a fighter and she is giving it everything she has to be 100% healthy and independent. She is frustrated with herself because as a Guild Hunter, she was one of the strongest. It is a complete table turn for her to have to rely on being saved or watched over. I could feel her frustration. I absolutely loved that even though she hated being so dependent, she was still wise enough to realize she needed assistance and didn't do stupid things. Oh how I hate when authors make their heroine do stupid things. I could hug Nalini Singh for making Elena so brilliant in that respect.

The readers have now all been introduced to Raphael's "SEVEN". These brave warriors are a combination of vampires or angels. They are Venom, Jason, Galen, Nassir, Aodhan, Dmitri and of course my favourite (as well as everyone else's) Illium. Wonderful secondary characters that I am sure we will get treated to each and every one of their books. I'll bet you a nickel that Illium's book will be last because he is the fan favourite. I love how each of these characters are loyal to Raphael (and even Elena through Raphael). Excellent set up for more books!

I look forward to more and more of these wonderful adventures. I am starting Archangel's Blade next.

Teasers: An Angel "dance" over the ocean, sister Eve surprise, "I live Elena. Because of you."

Archangel's Consort is the third book of the series and they seem to be getting better with each book. Raphael (though he is very sexy) was so cold, arrogant, and unemotional in the 1st book that it was hard to believe he was willing to die with Elena instead of saving himself. I knew he was attracted to her and enjoyed making love to her but I just didn't quite get it until he was willing to die with her. Well, it took me three books to really start to understand that this 1000 year old archangel just didn't show his emotions in the way most other heroes do. I really love this series and hate that there are only two books left before I'll have to wait a year for the upcoming release.

Elena is a very likable tough heroine. I love that she is teaching Raphael to respect her abilities and she has taught him to laugh. She's a natural born Hunter with a fighter's spirit and a mortal heart. I love that she shows love to her sisters, best friend Sara, and even her evil father whom Raphael wants to kill. There was a scene where Elena's younger sister says that she thought their father didn't allow Elena to visit them because she was mean. But after spending quality time with her big sis, she too realized that Elena had a heart of gold.

This series has evolved well and I can't recommend it enough for all paranormal lovers. All of the characters are so intense and yum scrumptious that I can't wait to read more of this series.

This is the third book in the series and they just keep getting better and better. I won't bother with a synopsis, it's been done over and over and can be read elsewhere. I've read all of Ms. Singh's Psy-Changleing books and all three of the Archangel books as well, and I have to admit, I like the Archangel books more.

Archangel's Consort is a breathtaking book, the storytelling is so well done you are pulled into the book and the descriptions so realistic you can picture everything in your mind. I felt like I could actually reach out and stroke the wings of the angels and could see all the vivid colors as if they were right in front of me. I felt Elena's pain from her past as if I had lived it myself and the love and loyalty she feels for her archangel is heartbreakingly beautiful. Raphael is everything one would think an archangel would be, strong - at times cruel, so beautiful that you want to cry just from looking at him and his guild hunter holds his heart so tenderly in her hands. The love that Elena and Raphael have for each other is strong and true and I felt it all the way to my soul. The love scenes are at times wild and frantic, at times beautiful and heartaching, at all times written in a style that gives you just enough to make your heart beat a bit faster.

The dialogue in this book is written with humor and a wink at times, at times very gritty. There are some great kick vampire and take names scenes, and some heart stopping arieal scenes (you'll look up into the clouds with whole new eyes after the scene where Raphael and Elena dance). I can't recommend this book and series enough, it would be better if you read the first two books before reading this one but if you don't, it is easy enough to figure out what is going on. I dare you to read this book and not be caught up in the majesty and gritty underside of a world full of angels, vampires, guild hunters and humans.

Despite the number of authors starting to jump on the idea that angels might be the new paranormal bandwagon, Nalini Singh still has the monopoly on sheer originality in how she's executed the concept. In her world, angels have ruled the earth in divided-up territories for as long as anyone can remember. They Make vampires to serve them, and for the most part humans are beneath their notice. Nalini shows true skill in her ability to depict the sheer alien nature of these creatures.

I was oversensitized to the presence of Elena's reminiscences and dark memories thanks to having read a different book this weekend that overindulged in such things to a much greater extent, so take my complaint with a grain of salt. Certainly the events that affected her were huge, character-shaping things, so it's normal to expect them to continue affecting her. I simply would have preferred perhaps a slight bit less introspection and angst over the matter.

I continue to adore Singh's multilayered characters, her depiction of angels and archangels, and the fascinating world of the Guild of vampire hunters. Once again I hit the end of the night, knew I needed to get some sleep, but could not put the book down until I'd finished it. This is one series it's utterly worth keeping up with, and tracking down any books you haven't read yet. I do recommend reading them in order, as there's a very strong arc to the tale.

The world is on edge. Vampires are turning feral and wild storms are brewing. Earthquakes, rising tides and blood-lust vampires are wreaking havoc on cities with no logical explanation . . . except one: an Ancient is awakening.

When an Archangel wearies of humanity and immortality, they go into a deep sleep for years on end. Occasionally they awaken to gauge their surroundings and the changing times, but their slumbers are often millennia long. Until now. One Ancient is awakening, and it just so happens to be Raphael's mother.

Caliane went to slumber after she lost her mind, and her mate, to madness. So diseased and weary was Caliane's immortal mind that she almost killed her son, Raphael, before going to ground and into deep sleep.

Now Caliane is awakening, and she is not happy with Raphael's choice of consort, Elena Deveraux. Elena may be an anomaly as the first made angel in recent memory, but Caliane expected better for her impossibly powerful Archangel son. And when mother isn't happy, the world knows about it.

This third book reaches a spectacular zenith in Nalini Singh's `Guild Hunter' series. Raphael and Elena's past haunts and childhood nightmares are given form and flesh to have a huge impact on their new-found relationship. Raphael was almost killed by his disturbed Archangel mother, only to have her reawaken just when Raphael has discovered new peace with Elena.
Likewise, Elena has been estranged from her family since she was a teenager, but in `Consort' she is unwittingly thrown back into the family circle when some disturbing news surfaces.
Raphael and Elena have already overcome so much - including death and grandiose Archangel's. In `Consort' they face their biggest threat - their family.

Caliane is the `bad guy' in this book, and the fact that she is also Raphael's mother is pure genius on Nalini Singh's part. Caliane is especially frightening because, for a lot of the book, she is in hiding. While she sleeps she wreaks havoc on the world's equilibrium and incites vampires to blood-lust . . . yet she is a formless villain, tucked away somewhere and slowly coming to wakefulness. She is a true enigma, made all the more terrifying for her unpredictability.

A big focus of this book is on Raphael and Elena's ghosts. Those memories and pent-up emotions that have been haunting them since childhood are suddenly unleashed - with the appearance of Caliane for Raphael, and a family secret for Elena. `Consort' definitely feels like a book of change for these two - as they shake off the shackles of their nightmares and confront their fears. This is also a book in which their relationship reaches new heights. Elena and Raphael trust each other implicitly, and love unconditionally . . . and because of that, they are not alone in battling their demons.

A shudder passed through him, his hands flexing on her hips as he tugged her to his body. "You hold me to the earth, Elena."
Able to feel the heated strength of him against her abdomen, she nipped at his lower lip with her teeth, relief a whisper of rain against her senses. "Don't you forget it." Moving her hand down to play over the amber he wore on the ring finger of his left hand, she used those same teeth on his jaw. "You belong to me, Archangel. And I look after what's mine."

Yes, there's still a lot of sex and sensuality between Raphael and his true love, Elena. But the real intimacy is in how far these two have come since `Angels Blood' - now they are at a place in their relationship where they can reveal their innermost fears.

As Raphael and Elena reach a new pinnacle in their relationship, Nalini Singh seems to be refocusing on new stories in the `Guild Hunter' series. A big focus in `Consort' is on Raphael's `Seven'. These are seven angels and vampires who form Raphael's most intimate and trusted circle. These cast of secondary characters have appeared in previous books, but in `Consort' it feels as though Singh is getting ready to tell their stories.

There's the blue angel, Illium, who loved and lost a human woman many hundreds of years ago. Raphael's spymaster, Jason, who lives only to serve and has a past of unparalleled horror. Venom, the vampire with snake eyes and a penchant for violence. The brutish Galen, who loves an angel who cannot fly. Aodhan who has a history of brutal violence that still haunts him. And Dmitri - Raphael's right-hand-man, an old vampire who was turned against his will and betrayed by a female angel.

And it comes as no surprise when a quick blog search reveals the fourth book in Singh's series will be a departure from Elena and Raphael. `Archangels' Blade' will have a September 2011 release, and will be Dmitri's book. As much as I love them, I'm not overly concerned that `Blade' may only feature Elena and Raphael as secondary characters. Dmitri (and all of Raphael's Seven) is interesting enough, and Singh has peppered `Consort' with enough back-story intrigue, that I am quite excited to read their stories.

Nalini Singh's `Guild Hunter' series is a sensual delight. The romance between a centuries-old Archangel and his once human (now angel) consort is one of lush romance and exhilarating action. Singh's series has gone from strength to strength, and in `Consort' it feels like her main couple have reached enough of a satisfying romantic pinnacle that the series can now turn a focus towards the equally fascinating characters who have lurked on the sidelines. . . I say, bring it on!

I can't get enough of this badass angel, Elena! She stands up when all other would cower and it makes me love her all the more for it. This series has stolen my heart and I've read and reread every one of the books! They have amazing detail in ALL the right places, including the sparring circle. Even as our Elena is growing, her powerful and ancient Archangel, Raphael, is growing as well. The twists and turns keep you flipping through as fast as you can to solve the world-shattering mystery...but relief isn't at the end of that road. It only opens up so much more.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the relationship that has blossomed between Raphael and Elena. They are the Ying to the others Yang. I was a little disappointed with the fight scene that had taken place as we had been building up from the beginning of the book to have this epic fight but no such luck. Other then that I thoroughly enjoy this and can't wait to see what is to come for Raphael and Elena.

I feel like this is a step back if compared to the previous books in the series. The writing is lyrical as always and the relationship between Raphael and Elena is developing into more even directions. I especially liked to finally see how the weakness that Elena represents for Raphael is changing him into a sort of different kind of Archangel.

I think what I am finding strained is the constant flow of past memories, we have been seeing the same scene over and over again and after three books I'm just asking for something else, because it's adding nothing new, no further insight in the feelings of the protagonists. It's too disruptive of the narration. I think the present is much more interesting, because Elena's living family with her step-sister's hunter-born status and Beth's request to be made a vampire represent an interest development.

The book stalled a little bit in the middle. I liked seeing Elena go back to her job and see that her new status as an Angel is causing her some trouble both in the personal relationships with her friends and in her job, since she has still to hone her new abilities as an immortal.

The story deals still a lot with Archangels' politics. I wish the story revolved a little bit more about the Seven. We are getting to know them better and each one of them as a weakness that I'd love to know much more about.

I'm still enjoying this series. Elena, the Guild Hunter, is born with an innate ability to track vampires. Vampires are made by angels. Elena met Raphael, the archangel, in the first book when she was on a mission (like detectives...but supernatural) for the Guild to track a mass killing vampire. By this book, Elena has been killed, saved, and turned angel herself. Now she's the archangel's consort. Although, she does not have the strength or ability of a naturally born angel, she does have the unique wings and has retained her ability to sense vampires. When vampires begin to go rogue and start killing humans in mass force, Elena and Raphael work together to solve the problem. All signs are pointing to a dangerous, sleeping archangel awakening.

This book seems to focus more on Elena's and Raphael's relationship than on the solving of human murders. Singh also teases us with Elena's relationship with her half sisters and a few of the archangel's seven, but does not go with it and develop it. I was disappointed in this fact. Why mention something in a book and not expand on it? It seems a waste of time. Altogether I did enjoy this book and plan to read more.

Archangel's Consort is the third book in the Guild Hunter series and I think this is the best one so far. Elena Deveraux is a Vampire hunter, a newly made angel and the lover/consort of the lethal Archangel of New York, Raphael. They are just returned from one dangerous mission to find that there is a new evil in New York. Vampires are descending into bloodlust, Raphael is suddenly subject to unexpected rages and storms are shaking the earth. The rising of an ancient archangel is the cause and not just any ancient archangel but Caliane, Raphael's mother. Elena is in danger from the events and she and Raphael must work together to understand what is happening and prevent more harm.

Archangel's Consort is a great story that kept me reading. Nalini Singh has added more depth and complexity to the world she created making it even more realistic and riveting. The story is fast paced, filled with action, tension, romance and a full cast of well-drawn characters. The next book in the series, Archangel's Blade, will be out in September of 2011. I look forward to seeing more of Elena and Raphael and a world ruled by angels.

Archangel's Consort is the third installment in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. I am really enjoying this series so far; however, the first book still remains my favorite. I'd have to say this is my second favorite though. The story added enough zing to keep readers interested and eager to find the next installment. I loved reading about Elena and Raphael's relationship (it's so intimate on many levels), Elena's slow but steady progress as a young angel, her ongoing work as a guild hunter, and the many side characters. A major new character enters in this book and I CANNOT wait to see if she resurfaces in future books!

My favorite quote:
“Our memories make us, Elena,” Raphael answered, in an echo of something she’d once said to him. “Even the darkest of them all.”

Following the harrowing battle with the ancient Archangel of China Lijuan, miraculously newly made Angel Elena Deveraux the Guild Hunter and the Archangel of New York Raphael are recovering from their devastating confrontation with the Archangel of China, Lijuan (see Archangel's Kiss). However, though they sort of won the battle, Lijuan remains dangerous as she has evolved into something beyond the ken of the archangels.

Elena continues her training as an angel, but refuses to hand in her Guild Hunter membership. At the same time vampires are caught up in unheard of blood lust frenzies and too frequently natural disasters are everywhere. Raphael fears the rise of a long dormant insane ancient archangel he knows personally.

The third Archangel Guild Hunter fantasy (see Angel's Blood) is a terrific entry as the lead couple continues to grow separately and as a loving team. The story line is fast-paced with a strong mystery and a great twist to what is the cause of the vampire enigma. The support cast is very strong with distinct personalities as this series remains one of the best with the current entry affirming that for delighted fans of Nalini Singh.

Archangel's consort is a worthy sucessor to the first two books. It has a good plot and characters. The hot love scenes between Elena and Raphael don't hurt either! I like how Elena and Raphel's love and trust continue to grow. Especially when that love and trust doesn't come easy to either one. Both have been betrayed by a parent in the past. Could one parent do so again?

Elena is still getting used to her angel wings, and none too soon. An ancient importal that has been sleeping for many centuries starts to wake. Could it be Raphael's mother Caliane? If so, has she recovered her sanity? The last time Raphael saw her, she almost killed him. The homicidal things vampires have been doing suggest nothing has changed. The trouble also seems to be centered on Elena. People around her are in danger. Even nature may be under the waking imortal's control.

Read Archangel's Consort to find out more!

I am a huge fan of Singh's work. But ArchAngel's Consort made me want to let my Wings drag on the floor (if I had them)! So many things went wrong here. Rapheal kept threatening his Ten, yet again over Elena. You would think that since they've been with him for centuries (by choice) and his repeated threats in the first two books would have made it clear to all participants where he stood on that issue.

Then there is the issue of the story jumping from one issue to the next with nothing being resolved. It made the story too disjointed. There was no real villian except if one were to count Lijuan and even then she was weak. She does what she does- turns everyone against one another and yet in the end she is right back at the table with the Cadre. Why is that one might asked when she posed such a threat in Book 2, yet there she is giving advice to who of all people Rapheal.

Nothing about this book felt right...it all seemed a bit off. The issues between Elena and Raphael were never fully addressed and the biggest and baddest of them all has re-awakened and that felt anti-climactic and dull.

Elena & Raphael are now back in New York City after spending many months at the Refuge for Elena to get stronger, but you don't become all mighty in such a short period of time, so she still has a long way to go. Seeing her hometown, her people, her "family" and her Guild friends after so long won't be easy either. Even with the help of Raphael and his Seven, the Guild Hunter is still as weak as a new born and trouble is at bay. Nature is going havoc and a tidal of violence is running among angels and vampires alike. It can only mean one thing, an ancient is awaking. Will this ancient be sane, or as sane as an archangel can be anyway, or completely mad?

I'll be really honest, I'm not quite sure how I feel about this third installment in the Guild Hunters series. I really like this series and maybe my expectations were too high, but I was slightly disappointed by this book. I think the main reason I felt that way is because I didn't feel any evolution in the relation between Elena & Raphael. They argued every now and then about Elena's protection, but overall their relation was a straight line of supporting each other while they both relived painful memories. While it's what you'd hope from a real relationship, it lacked spice for a fictional one. Even though there was also a couple of sex scenes, I didn't feel the fiery passion I felt between them in the previous books.

That being said, the secondary characters of this series are fascinating and I'd like to see them have their own spin-off books. I'd really like to know their past, their motivations, their dreams and desires. Raphael's seven are an intriguing bunch. I read Nalini is currently working on a Dmitri book, so my wish might come true! A new character was also introduced. We've heard of her before but we finally get to meet her: Raphael's mom. Her venue promises some very interesting moments to come in the following book.

Like the previous books, Elena & Raphael work side by side to solve a chain of murder/violence to protect their people. This time it was much more personal for Raphael because his mom was the center element and we got to discover a new side to his personality. We also got new insight on the relation between Elena and her father.

The end was the best part of the book. Action-packed, it kept me on my toes for the last 40 pages or so, and even if the fight wasn't as spectacular as the end of Archangel's Kiss, emotions were running high.

Overall, Archangel's Consort wasn't bad but I wasn't impressed either. It won't stop me from reading the following book as I love the world and the characters, I just hope E&R's relationship will reach another level.

Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance -Feb. 1st, 2011
4 stars

Archangel's Consort is the 3rd in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter magnificent series. This deep and emotional series is one that should definitely be read in order.

Elena is a vampire hunter. Using her heightened sense of smell, she is able to track and eliminate vampires. Dangerous and proud she has recently been transformed into an angel by her lover the powerful archangel Raphael. But their association is not greeted with joy by many, and soon Elena's sisters are targeted by vampires. But worst of all, Elena and Raphael's union is frowned upon by his lethal mother. Raphael's mother is an archangel who went mad, nearly killing her son, and is now somewhere `resting.' The trouble is, she is slowly awakening, and the world is feeling her disapproval, as disasters and strange occurrences are happening all around the world. Unfortunately, the other archangels are not able to contain her powers, and even they are being affected. In addition, the archangels seem to have their own agenda and are more than willing to betray Raphael and Elena for increasing power.

This book delves into the past of both main characters. Elena is tough, but when it comes to her estranged family, very wounded. Raphael also has issues with his mother's awakening. Due to her long life span, his mother is incredibly strong. And the damage she may visit upon the earth catastrophic. He must deal with the reality of killing her for the greater good. But the wonderful memories of his early life with her before her insanity haunt him. This book is a thrilling and emotional novel, as it deals with the mystery of the mass vampire slayings and the two main characters' personal struggles who must deal with their past.

Overall, I enjoyed the author's prior book Archangels Kiss a bit more since I liked the time the author spent on the two main characters' developing relationship. This book is exciting, but it was more action packed and filled with emotional dilemmas.

Archangel's Consort is an absorbing and gripping new novel that will be sure to enthrall readers. It reveals more about the two main characters' past that will be sure to pull readers even more deeply into this series.

This series is growing on me (I know, I'm still reading on book 3 of a series that is JUST growing on me? I love Nalini, what can I say?)

Finally some depth to Elena and Raphael's relationship! In Consort it felt like they were partners instead of this odd hierarchy of a relationship that the first two books had. Elena has to be the rock for Raphael's struggles with his mother, while still learning to navigate the world she has joined.

Some interesting tidbits in there for potential future stories that I'm very much looking forward to.

And with each passing book I fall a little more in love with Illium.

Archangel's Consort is the eagerly anticipated third book of The Guild Hunter Series. Raphael and Elena are back in New York after defeating Archangel Lijuan and her legion of reborn (zombies). Elena is realizing that her life has changed. She hasn't had a chance to settle down into her new life when she is called to her half-sister's school to investigate a murder committed by a possible bloodlust vampire. And to make things even more chaotic, there have been rumblings, literally, around the world that hints that Raphael's mother, Caliane, is waking from her Sleep. In previous books, Elena was dealing with her daddy issues. This time the shoe is on the foot and Raphael is dealing with the atrocities of his mother.

Raphael and Elena's relationship has faced adversity from the beginning. When they're not dealing with outside forces that are against them, they are trying to make their relationship work. Raphael is an Archangel and is used to being obeyed. Elena is fiercely independent and strong in her own right and doesn't take kindly to Raphael ordering her around like she's one of his Seven. Elena is getting stronger physically and is exerting her independence more. Besides the external happenings around them, the main conflict in Archangel's Consort is Elena's freedom versus Raphael's protection. The Archangel is not used to anyone defying him but realizes that he may push Elena away by trying to change her. She is a warrior. He made a warrior his consort. As they continually butt heads, they slowly concede and compromise. This leads to very hot and very steamy sex. Archangel's Consort is the steamiest of the Guild Hunter Series.

Archangel's Consort is a great addition to the series. I love the progression of Raphael and Elena's relationship. Two fiercely powerful and independent people are trying to find equal footing in their relationship. Some light is shed more on Elena's family, especially her father. Elena's relationship with Illium (Bluebell) makes me smile. Illium is a great character and I hope he gets his own book. I'd love to know his story regarding his mother, Hummingbird, and his haunting past.

When I started reading Consort, it took me a long time to get into it. I felt the pace was slow until the middle of the book when it started to pick up more. Singh's writing is descriptive beyond belief and it draws you in. She touches every detail with her words. Archangel's Consort may not be my favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed reading it. I'm looking forward to reading Dmitri's book in September. I'd love to see how much of a role Raphael and Elena play in the plot.

A wonderful, multi-layered and intricate plot with a very engaging voice make this an A+ read. The writing is crisp and the plot keeps you reading. I really liked that we learn more about each of the seven, especially Illium and Aodhan. Can't wait to get the next installment.

Above all, this story again showcased Nalini's talent in writing believable characters, who happen to be in a fantasy world. We have Raphael - a complex, inhuman being who has no doubts about his place in the world, and what he needs to do to stay there. Elena, his consort, is a great match for him - she has the strength and confidence to stand up to him, while her loving nature brings out the humanity in him. Nalini succeeds in creating a relationship which is real, takes effort to build and is by no means perfect but is loving and lasting.

I would give this a 3 1/2. The premise of the book is great, but the ending failed to meet the drama of the rest of the book. It was just so anticlimactic. Besides learning that the archangel has new healing abilities and an ancient waking up, I don't that the book really advanced the series.
I love the author and the Psy/changeling series she writes are automatic buys. This series has an interesting premise and is well written. For the most part all the main characters are given depth and are fully developed. Having said that, these are definitely borrow from the library books.

Up to now this third novel, of the GH series, is the best.
I liked it more than the previous two books, because it is less bloody and violent.

The focus is Elenas new life as immortal. Mrs. Singh shows her readers more insights and developments in Elenas relationships with Raphael, his seven, her family and friends.
Elena still have to claim her place in the world of the immortals and in her relationship with Raphael. But also her previous place in the world of mortals has to be thought over.

These developments are overshadowed by ecologial disasters and negative character changes in some archangels. Both points to the awakening of an Ancient (here: Raphaels mother).
As Raphaels starts to show signs of a uncontrolled rage, he is forced to deal with his awakening mother.

Audiobook review: Archangel’s Consort finds the duo growing closer and Elaina becoming stronger. Raphael battles his past while awaiting the future. The storyline progresses and draws in the listener. The narrator did a good job.

Summary
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil...

A vampire has attacked a girls' school--the assault one of sheer, vicious madness--and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders.

The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear.

An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed...

The Good
The building romance between Elena and Raphael is lovely. With each book, the couple are starting to fit better and are actively trying to make it work. They are learning what neither can live without and what leniencies they can allow to satisfy each other's needs.

We get to learn more about Raphael in this book. His past and history with his mother is quite enthralling. Besides the romance, this is the best part of the book. Raphael also opens up more, which is a nice change of pace.

The character development with the Seven makes me went to beg Singh to write books on these people very soon. I want to know what their stories are because I know each one will be fascinating.

I noticed that the characters is what keeps bringing me back the Guild Hunter Series. Singh has done a great job at catching my curiosity and solidifying my invested interest in the future of each person.

The Bad
Elena's continued issue with her father is kind of exhausting. She's an adult, she needs to move on.

Archangel's Consort was very repetitive when it came to Elena's past. Not sure what Singh was doing there.

The depth and complexity of plot we saw in Angel's Blood and Archangel's Kiss was not present in this book. The pacing was slow, and we get another anticlimactic ending.

The Snuggly
LOTS of sex. Many, many sex scenes, so be forewarned. I did enjoyed the playful aspect in their sex lives.

Overall
Though I found some faults in this book, I did still enjoy reading it. I might have put it down a few times, but it wasn't bad by any means. It just missed the mark in comparison of its predecessors. If you liked the first two books, I would suggest reading this one, too. Elena and Raphael's continued relationship is worth reading. Just know it's not the best book you will ever read.

Elena has returned to New York to find that things aren't as she remembered them to be. She and Raphael come home and her first visit into public is to investigate a vampire attack at a private school where her two half-sisters go. This vampire brutalized and killed two children because he was told Raphael was gone and there would be no repercussions. This was the start of many horrifying events that young vampires committed throughout the book. These vampires were being influenced by a very powerful being, and some were being forced to do these horrific acts. This outbreak also co-in-sided with the awakening of an Ancient Archangel.

This book also held a lot of personal things for Elena. She found out quite a few secrets about her families history, and one of them was just shocking. Her father was his usually jack-ass self, and I can't wait for the day when they have a no holds barred verbal fight. It makes me so angry and sad for Elena whenever she talks to her father I just wish she could just put it all out there and either reconcile or cut each other out of their lives. We also got to see more of Elena's half-sisters which I enjoyed because it got to show a positive family connection that had never existed before.

Elena also was forced to realize that everything has changed for her. People no longer look at her the same way as she was. She is no longer the strongest Guild Hunter, and now she must hold secrets because her allegiance is to her archangel. This is especially painful for Elena because the Guild is really the only home she has ever known, and it's a shock for her to discover that she might not completely belong there anymore.

Something I really enjoyed about this book was learning about some of Raphael's Seven. These characters are amazing and I can't wait to find out each of their stories. Because it seemed that almost all of them got a some tidbit of personal information leaked in this book. I really hope she writes books about Illium, Jason, and Aodhan. I think all three of these have big issues that I can't wait to unravel. I also liked to see Elena growing with some of the Seven, though I still can't understand her relationship with Dmitiri at times it seems as if he wants to kill her, at others he seems to enjoy her. This was another great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

This series continues to develop well. Two strong central characters are learning how to live together; sure, they love each other, but they have to work out what that means on a daily basis, especially since there's such a power imbalance between them. Even angels have to work on these issues, and I love that. Of course the overall story arc of the series advances in this novel, and there's a pretty strong adventure plot that pits Raphael and Elena against some scary forces, but for me it's the ongoing romance that fascinates. Happy Ever After is great, but I enjoy reading about love in action, too. I expect that in future books, the focus will be more on other couples, but I have really enjoyed the evolution of this pair.

I strongly recommend not reading this review if you have not read the previous two books, Angels' Blood and Archangel's Kiss. It is impossible for me to write this review without including HUGE spoilers for the first book. So, just know that the first two books were five stars for me and I recommend them!

This book takes us back to New York and all the family and friends that Elena hasn't seen since being Made. I've been eager to see the reaction to Elena's wings since the end of the first book, so this was pretty exciting for me. Unfortunately for her, not everything goes smoothly, despite her new prestige. Her family hasn't improved--although we do see glimmers of possible better relations--and not all her old acquaintances are pleased with her new status.

I'm very glad that the author hasn't made Elena's journey easy. She doesn't automatically gain status because she's the consort of an Archangel. If anything, she's scorned even more for it. She struggles to learn the rules of her new life and to find acceptance, even with Raphael's Seven. Nothing comes easily for her. She's used to being the baddest Hunter on the block, but now she finds herself back to square one. She also struggles to master flying tricks and works to build muscle so she won't be so easily fatigued. Seeing Elena work step by step to adjust to her new life makes any achievements all the sweeter for me.

Elena continues to jockey with Raphael for cooperation and control. Neither of them are really used to a partnership, and trust comes hard for them. The love is there, but there are plenty of bumps along the path to happiness. Elena and Raphael both slowly open themselves to each other and it's lovely watching them strengthen as a couple. Raphael still has a hard time trusting himself with Elena when he's in a mood and trusting Elena to protect herself well enough to ensure nothing will happen to her. But Elena values their relationship enough to keep working at it.

We get some nice details about various members of the Seven here. Before rereading the first two books (right before I started this one) I wasn't that interested in Venom. I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden he drew my attention like a lodestone. I really liked watching his fighting techniques and hope that we get more of him soon. Illium was someone I've been interested in from the start. I like his flirty, fun-loving attitude, but it's also nice to see a little more depth too.

I had heard that the next book focused on Dmitri before I reread the first two. I paid particular attention to him looking for clues and thought that I had spotted his future love interest, but then I heard Singh had leaked that we hadn't met her yet. So I suppose I spotted clues where there were none.

Even though I enjoyed this book I didn't like it as much as the first two. I had to take a while to let it stew after reading it to figure out why I wasn't as happy with it. I'm still not sure I've totally figured it out. Honestly, if I had read this book first I wouldn't have become obsessed with the series like I am now. The relationship is still good, but it doesn't have the compelling factor going for it that I'm used to seeing.

I think one of the biggest problems with this book was the pacing. It all felt a bit slow to me. There was a lot of focus on Raphael and Elena--which I definitely do want--but it didn't feel like the quality time I was craving. It just felt like they were rehashing things when I wanted new development. That's not to say that it was unsatisfying though. I still enjoyed them together, I just wish there had been more of a spark.

The end fight was a pretty big letdown for me. I wasn't displeased with the final resolution (because I saw it coming early on) but I did expect more excitement.

Before ending this I do have to mention one thing. We finally get to see Raphael teach Elena how Angels dance! It definitely wasn't what I was expecting, but I liked it all the better for it.

While this was my least favorite of the series I still think it was pretty good. It also didn't hurt that there was an excerpt of Kiss of Snow at the end of it! Read that at your own risk though, because I couldn't resist reading it and then I got bummed and crabby when I ran out of pages.

Favorite Quote:

"For the first time in forever, he was stunned to silence. Not by her words, but by the tenderness in her hands, the worry in her eyes. He was an archangel. He'd been wounded far, far worse and shrugged it off. But then, there had been no woman with sun kissed by the sunset and eyes of storm gray to tear into him for daring to get himself hurt."

Awesome! The next installment for Nalini Singhs Angel series is briliant. This has become on of my favorite series around. Elena is now a newly made angel and is learning how to deal with her new live and her love Raphael, who is the archangel of New York. Everyone is back and there is even more danger with the possibility of Raphaels mother making from her long sleep. She is more powerful than anything Elena and Raphael have ever fought against. When her family is targeted she has to deal with her father, a man who treats her like shes the worst thing on the planet, but no matter she will protect him and her half sisters. Lots of action, steamy romance, and fantastic plot!

I loved the continuing development of Raphael and Elena's relationship, but felt that the book's plot was slow going. Towards the end, when the book was wrapping up, I felt oddly cheated out of a whole book. This could have easily been a shorter story. This book progressed their relationship, shed some light on existing characters, opened doorways for other characters/questions, and introduced new peeps. It was a bit scattered for me. I also was getting slightly annoyed with the overuse of certain phrases/words when describing Raphael's eyes, their scents, etc.

I liked the book, I still love the characters, but I didn't feel as if this book really moved the series forward.

i love strong heroines who can hold her own against the bad guys. That's why i buy books like these. I enjoyed the first installment of this series "Angel's Blood" and decided to get the other books. Now I'm asking myself what in the world happened. In Angel's Consort, the once strong kick-a-- heroine is used as nothing more than a blood hound. Good for little else than sniffing things. She has skills she rarely uses, like her fighting skills and her guild training. Her traumatic childhood is constantly harped on, and though I'm not unsympathetic, enough already. To much time is spent placating her husband when he has his mood swings as I call them. Lastly, she starting to remind me of an abused little puppy every time her father is brought up. She knows what's going to happen but she just keeps going back. The book isn't all bad though. i loved the chemistry between the main character's and the love scenes were hot. I think the secondary character could have made the story much more interesting and tolerable but they weren't focused on nearly enough. I know I've focused more on the negative things that bothered me but the book isn't that bad it's just not that great either. Especially when you go in expecting certain things.

Elena and Raphael are back, with the whole cast of characters that enthralled me in the first book. Old foes reappear to once more try to wreck havoc on the world. The Archangels and Guild Hunters have to learn how to deal with family members and problems with the humor and snarkiness I have come to expect from this author. Can't wait to see what happens next, so glad I finally broke down and started this series.

This one in the series wasn't as great as the other ones. The book started off sort of slow, however, we learn more about Elena and her childhood and in the end we find out more about her mother and in essence that final clue form her mother says something about who she is as well. Rafael is hotter than ever, we learn more about him and the his childhood... and mother.
The plot is was pretty much the mystery of which angel is waking up and where they are Sleeping so that they can wake her up soon and kill her if she is Mad. It's really interesting because all the archangel's become affected somehow. It was good read.

I believe this series is written to horrify readers. You know the Shock factor. All of the Angels in these books are serial killers of the worst sort!!! In this story Archangels Consort the angle is murdering children and teens. Every other page is a very gory murder scene or Raphael and Elena are haveing wild erotic sex, which is OK. This series was gifted to me and is the only reason I continue to read it. I didn't want my friend to waste her money. The friend that gifted them to me stopped at bk1 Angels blood. If you like over the top obscene, descriptive murder scene or a abundance of sex scene this book is for you. Not for me!!

Their are a few good points. You really get to see Elena with her step mother and her step sisters, which were touching scenes but brief. I really like the scene in the story when Elena visits her friend Sara and her husband and goddaughter Zoe. That scene was well written but very brief.

This book could have used a good editor too!!

I debated for a while if I wanted to get this book because of the mixed reviews. I found it on sale, so thought I would give it a try. The relationship between Raphael and Elena was pretty much just jumping in bed with each other, and then mixed in with that was "back history" information about Raphael's mother. Additionally, we heard AGAIN, repeatedly, Elena's history with the mad vampire Slater. It was a smattering of things and no really new information about either Elena, Raphael, or the other characters such as Illium, Jason, Dimitri etc. If you liked the first two, you will probably also like this one.

Two popular themes in today's fantasy fiction: vampires and angels. This series includes both. The world is run by angels. Angels produce a venom, which will, if not put into something else, will eventually drive them mad. They choose genetically compatible humans, and using that venom, create vampires. A new vampire must sign a 100 year contract to serve the angel that made him/her. This is an alternate history fantasy, and really a very good one. I like when contemporary author's are able to take an old, used up theme and make something original with it.

Archangel's Consort, book three of the Guild Hunter Series, is definitely worth reading if you are a fan of the first two.
I give the series as a whole five stars, but this book is losing a little bit of steam for me, so I gave it four!
As with Lijuan in book two, there is a lot of built up regarding Raphael's mom Caliane.
However, when they do finally meet, it is not as dramatic as anticipated.
I heard that the next installment, Archangel's Blade, is Dmitri's story.
I think I would rather read about Aodhan or Bluebell :)

I have fallen in love with Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter Series, so of course when the third book to the series came out I made sure to grab a copy. I had already heard some not so good reviews and also some excellent reviews.I figured people with the not so good reviews must be crazy how can you not give it a five my exact thoughts before reading it.

At last I had the book in my hands and started reading it. For someone who can finish a book in a day it took me a week and half to finish. I was slightly disappointed with Archangel's Consort.

The book picks up right where the last one left off.Lot's of blood spill, mystery, past demons and romance.

The story continues with Elena and Raphael returning back to New York and Elena finally being able to see all her guild family and real family for the first time after being made into an angel. Book three definitely explores more of her relationship with her father and opens up some more dark family secrets.

Elena still remains the weakest of all the angels and now also the target for many. Instead of gaining status in the immortal world she has now become a target, there is quite a few who would wish her dead.In Archangels Consort she is still learning the ways of the angels, learning the history and formalities while still trying to develop her flying and fighting skills. She has discovered fighting with wings is much harder than when she was just human. Meanwhile Elena has also gone back to the guild and is dealing with an attack at a school and the bloodlust that is occurring amongst the vampires. And all this while being a consort to an Archangel who likes to have everything and everyone in his control.Plain and simple Elena is badass!

We also discover that an ancient is awakening. Raphael's mother Caliane. And there is chaos all over the world, earthquakes, tsunamis, archangels going into rages, and vampires in blood lust killing thousands.

While Nalini Singh did do a good job of keeping the mystery and keep me guessing and wondering if Raphael's mother Caliane was going to be sane or insane, will she be malovelent and kill or will she be sane again when she awakens.Singh had me waiting too long. The build up was very slow but from my experience I've seen some slow build ups make it worth the readers time in the end due to the outcome, this one not so much. Caliane didn't awaken until more than half way through the book. I was really hoping there would be more of her awake but it seems everything that happened before happened while she was asleep.

I'm still very much a fan of the relationship between Elena and Raphael. It's very interesting how Singh has created two dominant characters coming together, growing and learning how to compromise while dealing with their own demons.Yet I feel there was way more sex scenes than usual. There was actually one chapter dedicated to just sex. It's not like the scenes are not steamy or incredibly hot because they are thanks to Singh's knack for words and not to mention her writing style is just amazing, but I did find myself skimming through most of them. I felt like they were just fillers and I wanted to get to the meat of the plot.

Another small thing that really irked me was "guild hunter" and "archangel". I got so fed up with Elena and Raphael referring to each other with just that. I understand that was supposed to be their cute nicknames for each other but it was less cute and more annoying.

What I did love was she still brought around the seven quite a a lot. I can write a whole essay on why I am in love with Illium. He is the scene stealer, I just can't get enough of him.I feel he has more of stronger presence than Raphael maybe because I am infatuated with him and love his personality. There was also more of Dimitri, Venom, Jason and the surprise was Aodhan. Definitely got to learn alot more about him.

We also got introduced to Illium's mother Hummingbird. Singh left a lot of mystery around her that I am eager to find out about not to mention with the discovery Raphael made at the end about Elena I know I will be picking up book four when it comes out.

Unlike the other two books I found this one less captivating, the book moved along rather unsteadily in my opinion, remove the sex scenes and the "daddy issues" and you had very little left, Raphael's crazy mother was waking up and this was apparently making the vampires act crazy, there was a hunt to find her and kill her while she was still in a weak state only when they did find her,she was no longer crazy and it seemed she might have been framed by Lijuan.Pretty thin plot to me.It is still a lot better than a lot of the crap that's floating around out there which is why she gets three stars, but Ms Singh is a pretty good writer, she could do better than this.

I'm new to Singh so I read all three Archangel books at once. Well I should say listened to them on audible. Highly recommend that for these books. I love the world she's built and the relationships. So satifying to get that balance of action, sex and storyline. The characters are fully fleshed out and somewhat but not overly complex. Love the heroine as she transitions into being an angel. The flow of the books is great. Rarely am I thinking "get on with it" into the next scene.

What a great book in a fantastic series. Ten thumbs up. By all means, start at book one of the series or you'll be completely lost. Graphic violence, graphic sex, but extremely well written. Suspenseful, thrilling. Just a great series.

I enjoyed this book; I was glued to the pages from beginning to end! Pros: the relationship progressed, relationships with secondary humans progressed and a few new characters were introduced. Cons: Relationships and histories of several supernatural creatures were hinted at but avoided. Plot was scattered and did not progress with much of a build-up, therefore, the end was anti-climactic. Boring, vanilla sex scenes replaced much of the action and adventure common in the first two books. These are becoming gratuitous and took away from the potential energy and momentum of the story. So, obviously, I was a bit disappointed in comparison with the previous novels. I did strongly appreciate how the author took the story to a new place, in a newer direction instead of traversing the same ground. I missed the kick-ass Elena, though. I also want to know more about Holly Chang, Dmitri, Jason and the other Seven. How about some short stories? I would ask for spin offs but I don't want to detract from Elena and Raphael.....How about splitting the stories among more than one couple, a la Eileen Wilks?

After re-reading this, I still feel the plot progressed but the conclusion was anti-climactic. I would like Elena to resolve something with her father, one way or the other, and move on from talking about it so much in the books. Overall, I love Elena, her relationship with Raphael, how the Seven don't all fall in love with her too and are wary of her. Losing their concern over Raphael (and all of the powerful becoming too tame is what is turning me off of the Psy-Changeling series...became too bland). I strongly appreciate how the author is sticking with the relationship, it's progression and related conflicts and not just writing about initial romances. I will keep looking, hoping for and reading books about Elena. I just want her to keep progressing and not stagnating (how about some more powers from these people?). I also want more to be revealed about angels, archangels and vampires in this world. Scare and amaze me, pretty please?!!! I know you can Nalini Singh, you have, just don't let it sink into the banal.

I've read all three books in the series. The story premise is great, but some of the descriptions were used over and over until they became trite and annoying. If the rest of the story hadn't been so good, I might have been turned off the series. I know the series isn't quite over yet, so I will be purchasing the next one.

I really like this series so far and this book is no different. I liked how the relationship was moved forward and Elena was placed back into her normal life. I was worried that I would become tired of the characters but the author has done a good job with keeping the storyline moving forward and the characters interesting.

I have enjoyed all of the books from the Guild Hunter series and Archangel's Consort is no different. The book really delivers in all areas, action, horror and romance. Her characters are well developed and I never seem to struggle remembering the name to the face of her vast ensemble of characters. A definite must read series!

I have to agree with those who call this one a 5 star performance. What a good series! Start at book one and read through. I hope Ms. Singh gives us stories about each of Raphael's Seven also. And don't forget Ms. Singh's Psy-Changeling Novels. What a marvelous writer! She never disappoints me.

Hey, we all like sex, right? But Nalini has gone a little overboard with her graphic detail. Maybe that's a marketing requirement now. The rest is superb. Great storyline, intriguing concept, well written. It the third in the series, and I'll be reading the rest.

Another great book in this series! I fell in love with Elena in the first book already and seeing her grow throughout keeps me on the edge of my seat. Then there is Raphael. Swoon. I cant wait for the next book in this urban fantacy series, full of action, humor and romance!

I haven't done a book review before so please bear with me.
I won an ARC of this book a few months ago and have been waiting for the chance to review it. I loved this book. I love this series and those of you who have been waiting impatiently for this book - you will not be disappointed.
Archangel's Consort picks up not long after the show down in Beijing with Elena and Raphael in New York. We get to see how Elena and her family and friends deal with her becoming an angel and where some of her loyalties must now lay. Nalini brought up a lot of issues that I hadn't thought about regarding this and I think she did a very good job with it. Not long after Elena returns to New York there is a murder at her half sisters school, one that is aimed at hurting Elena and her family. On top of all this an ancient is awakening causing severe weather, earthquakes around the world and erratic behavior in vampires and angels. In between these plot lines we get to have a little bit more about Raphael's Cadre. We get a little more about Illium's family and past, and a hint of Jason, Aodan, Venom and Dimitri's past. With other angels up to their games and Raphael and Elena still adjusting to their relationship this makes for an exciting addition to the series. I can't wait for Dimitri's book in September and in case you were wondering Raphael does show Elena how to "dance as angels dance" in this book ;)

you will love this book if you love the following...
1. slow moving plot
2. villains who dont get justice and get to live and be evil in the next book
3. lots a sex
4. lots of great supporting casts of angels and vampires / none of which we ever really get know with any real backstory.... just teasers for future books probably
5. monogamy with many sex scenes. i think a few well placed scenes would have been better.
6. lots a graphic violence post crime scenes.
probably the best part of this book... hope that doesnt make me a sicko?

reasons not to like this book.
1. just like with book two you feel the plot never really got started until it ended. WTF
2. i always felt the main character was one step behind in a no so good way.
3. the villain is boring.
4. really 1~6 in my reasons to love this book.
5. the build up to the archangels mother was great... but when we met her it was anticlimatic.

come on... violent angels in urban fantasy should ROCK with every book written in this series... but this read more like a paranormal fantasy. sigh. strike another series off my pre/order list.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book I did not quite like it as much as the first two. I thought there was a lot of repetitiveness in the scenes. I can't give the book a five star rating but I am really looking forward to more books in this series. Overall it was a good read, but for me not a great read.

The ending was disappointing and fell short to my expectations. It seemed like everytime Elena & Rafael interacted with each other, they ended up having sex. It felt contrived & boring after awhile. Unfortunately, I'm losing interest in this book series.

I always immensely enjoy reading Nalini Singh books. However, this is the first, and hopefully the only, exception. The story is forced. There is no flow and the storyline is stilted. I hope this was a ghostwritten piece as a test.

I really enjoyed her first two books so I was super excited when this one hit my kindle. However, I feel like it missed the mark. So much time was spent trying to work through the plot that I felt like it lost the connection between Raphael and Ellie that you really get from the first two books. If I had been looking for a mystery novel this would have been it, but for me I just hate how this book sizzled out in the romance department. Good read, but not as good as I had expected after her first two novels.
