I got hooked on the first book in this series and have since bought and read all the rest. This one solves the mystery of Elena the consort of Archangel. I really enjoyed the details and the vivid tensions!

It's written by Nalini Singh, so you know it's good. Not my favourite by far, but still a good read. I enjoy seeing how Elena has grown, and I love the fact that she is a heroine who is strong but willing to accept her weaknesses and knows when to keep quiet. I get sick of heroines who act stupidly in the name of being 'brave'. I am a little disappointed that there was no new love story, but Raphael and Elena are sweet together.
I'm a little unsure as to the relationship between Ilium and Aodahn. I really hope that we're not going to get a book about a romance between those two. I don't mind if it's a secondary romance I guess, but I'm not interested in reading a full on m/m romance so PLEASE don't give me one! I will be so disappointed ?

Wow!!! That's all I can say after reading this book. I've been waiting for what seems like forever to read another book that centered around Elena and Rafael. I can tell you now that this book was worth the wait!!!! It shows how far the characters have come since we first met them. This book was full of love and a devotion so deep that as a reader, you wish that you had your own Rafael at home with you. I really don't want to give any spoilers because I hate to spoil a good book. What I can tell you is that you won't regret buying this book, you will probably do what I did and sigh dreamily while going back to the beginning and starting all over again returning to a magical world full of an archangel and the hunter who loves him

I love the characters in this world like always but this book seemed felt rushed and half baked. Now I ask myself questions like everyone else seemed to know Elena was Raphaels Consort but the head of this group? Never looked up the first made Angel in all his dealings? I feel like there should have been more it feels like this was a random book to explain the power in the blood that was on her mother quilt. I hope she actually has the grandparents visible but I would pay (clearly) to see a confrontation between Jeffery and the grandparents

If Lijuan is not in Sleep, they have too many members of the Cadre and not enough land for each of them to control without getting in the way of another archangel. If Lijuan is in Sleep then her territory needs to be taken over before the area goes into complete chaos. That is, of course, unless Lijuan isn’t planning something much more sinister.

The Luminata is an ancient group of angels who have the authority to call the Cadre to meet whenever the need should prove necessary. And with control of Lijuan’s territory up in the air, the need is definitely necessary. As Elena and Raphael head to the Lumianta stronghold, Lumia, located in Morocco, Elena begins to feel some kind of tenuous connection to her past. Once they arrive in Lumia, it appears that Elena’s feelings are justified; she just doesn’t know how it all connects with the Luminata. But one thing is certain, not all is as it seems in Lumia, and it appears these angels are holding onto a deep, dark secret.

I’m always happy when Nalini Singh returns to Raphael and Elena in her Guild Hunter series. Not that I don’t enjoy the forays into stories of Raphael’s Seven, but you have to admit, it’s always nice being back with the couple that started it all.

Early on in Archangel’s Heart, when Raphael and Elena first arrive in Lumia, I really got the ‘haunted house’ kind of vibe, which I loved, seeing as how I was reading this around Halloween. I don’t know if it was a conscious decision on Nalini Singh’s part or if things just serendipitously came together that way, but I really liked the eerie feeling that everyone seems to have walking the halls of Lumia.

I mainly enjoyed, however, learning more about Elena’s past. I loved that Nalini was able to add even more depth to Elena’s character, that there were still more mysteries to unravel beyond the tragedy we know happened in Elena’s childhood. In that regard I also liked learning about another aspect to the angels, that up until now we haven’t known about, in the Luminata and how their long history with angelkind.

Of course, I continue to love Elena and Raphael, and it’s great to see their devotion and commitment to each other. I think, in going from previous books in the series where the characters are still trying to find their happily-ever-afters, it’s a nice contrast to come back to this main couple and see their unit, to see the strength of their relationship and how it continues to grow through each book. Their devotion to one another is the foundation of the series, and it’s especially strong in Archangel’s Heart.

Longtime readers of the series will be pleased that Aodhan is featured quite heavily in this book as he accompanies Elena and Raphael. I don’t know if it’s a preamble to his book being next or not, but we learn more about his past, and it definitely makes me wish his book were next.

Overall, Nalini Singh never disappoints and her Guild Hunter series stands out as one of the best.

This is an astonishing storyline. The descriptive narrative is perfect. The story itself answered a major question yet provided fodder for more rich stories. I continue to enjoy and look forward to the next installment.

However, this is slightly underwhelming?
It was predictable but still a pretty okay read in my opinion.
What saved the book for me was Aodhan and his growth. I'm still hoping for a m/m novel for him and Bluebell but that may never happen cause the word friend was thrown around so much. Alas, good read. Looking forward to the next one.

OAN: Maggie is freaking adorable I can barely even!

It’s been two years since anybody in the Cadre has seen Zhou Lijuan and the Luminata has now called the Cadre into session. When Lijuan doesn’t show up the Cadre must decide what to do with her lands as bloodlust is starting to crop up.

Elena is excited to go on the trip to Lumia with Raphael as it’s in Morocco where her grandmother is from. She is going to take the opportunity to search for ties to her family and try to discover what exactly happened to her grandmother and what left her to leave Elena’s mother behind.

Lumia is supposed to be a place where individuals go to find inner peace or luminescence. However, soon after arriving Elena and Raphael feel a deep wrongness about the place. And, everyone looks at Elena like they’ve seen a ghost. A ghost that nobody is allowed to talk about. And a trip to the nearby village shows them that the mortals are terrified of the angels. Raphael and Elena don’t know what’s going on, but they are determined to find out!

I found this book to have a slow start and it struggled to keep my interest. It wasn’t that it was bad, but it was just too easy to put the book down as I became bored with the monotony of what was going on around our favorite consorts. There were no steamy sex scenes like we’re used to from Nalini Singh; not a single one!

My interest did pick up a bit once Elena and Raphael’s investigation picked up speed. I don’t want to give away too much, but what they find will change their lives forever, not to mention, unveils the corruption within the Luminata. It will be up to the Cadre to decide if the brotherhood is even worth saving.

Aodhan joins Raphael and Elena on this trip so we get to learn more about him and just how scarred he was in the past. It’s nice to see him reach out to someone as equally damaged to help them come out on the other side. I hope we get to read more about his new friend in future installments of the series.

This novel leaves us with an ominous prediction of the future in regard to Lijuan, one I’m sure will come to pass sooner rather than later. Let’s just hope everyone will be ready for it.

What a story; what a series! It's hard to imagine any other series which remains so fresh, innovative, and exciting book after book! Singh's ninth Guild Hunter installment hits it out of the park with a story which begins two years after the cataclysmic conflict which drove books 6, 7, and 8.

Elena and Raphael go on the road once again in ARCHANGEL'S HEART, this time called to a meeting of the Cadre by a group which cannot be denied...the mysterious Luminata, inhabitants of an enclave in Morocco. The Archangel of NY and his consort's journey is filled with adventure, fraught with peril, and takes more than one surprising turn as connections are made which will bring far more to light than just the agenda of the Luminata. Along the way, we spend some very rewarding time getting to know Sparkle (the angel Aodhan) better, and we have a bit of interaction with some of our other favorite characters before the journey to Lumia begins. Of course, the unresolved issues from the past, including the status of Lijuan, and the presence of two recently awakened ancients, Alexander and Caliane, add more depth and complexity to this already fascinating storyline.

Singh is unparalleled in the paranormal romance world; her fully realized characters with their smoking hot chemistry (or their combustible hatred!), her fascinating plotting, and her skill at writing rising action which keeps the reader literally on the edge of her seat...no one does it better!

I've already pre-ordered my hardcopy of ARCHANGEL'S HEART, to add to my Guild Hunter collection. The gorgeous cover art alone is reason enough to justify the permanent shelf space! I put down what I'd been reading when I received the advance reader copy of ARCHANGEL'S HEART, and I spent the best day of my week with Raphael and Elena. What a rush! Please, Ms. Singh, keep them coming!

It kills me to do this, but I think this book is really only worth 2.5 stars. It's not that I HATED it, but it's not quite just "okay" either.

I love Rafael-Elena books. One, because I think of them as being at the heart of the Guild Hunter series, and second because the Rafael-Elena books of the past moved the overarching plot along. Unfortunately, this book falls far, far, far short of what I was expecting based on past reads. Also, it's quite difficult to find anything I really enjoyed about this book. And since I've already given it only 2.5 stars, I might as well list the reasons why:
1. Hate that stupid, ugly cover. Elena doesn't look like a guild hunter or an elegant consort dressed by Montgomery. She looks like some cheap Halloween costume.
2. Too many descriptions and summarizing of characters for Book 9 in a series. If the reader doesn't know some of the characters personally, then let them go back and start with Book 1, which was awesome. By Book 9, I would think that the author can just tell new readers to go read the earlier ones first and just jump in for those loyal readers who have stuck with this series.
3. Too many descriptions. Period. Again, we are in Book 9. We have waited 1 year for another installment. New central characters (such as Honor, Mahiya, Andromeda, etc.) are not being introduced. Instead, it's the regular cast. So let's not waste precious book space on unnecessary descriptors, such as Aodhan's green pupils that are shattered inward, Honor's dramatic arch of the eyes, Dmitri's sinful black hair, Rafael's painful blue, blue, blue eyes....We know these characters and I, personally, was waiting for something to happen in the book moving forward. Instead, I got one paragraph of actual action for every 3 paragraphs of physical descriptions of the characters--characters that I've already come to know.
4. Too many flashbacks. Again, I'm waiting for the new plot arc to take shape. Instead, I estimate that at least 25% of the book is flashbacks. Not flashbacks, such as the beginning "prologue" but rather Elena thinking back to a meeting she had with so-and-so. Stuff that happened in the 2 years that have passed since Book 8. Quite honestly, I'm not sure what the 2-year time jump serves. If nothing interesting happened in those 2 years, then nothing happened, and I have no interest in having the current narrative interrupted by a flashback. This may sound picky, but read the book and you'll see how these flashbacks are frequent and jump into the narrative, greatly disrupting the flow of the book.
5. No forward movement in the over-arching plot. So, an entire book, only to learn that Lijuan is most likely sleeping. Really? Sure, I was curious to know about Elena's mother's lineage, but not so interested that I wanted an entire book dedicated to it. And the Luminata? Well, they were a dud. They could have been another "power" but instead they ended up being a joke. Everyone, including the characters, are waiting for something to happen related to the Cascade. Instead, we get this dud group called the Luminata. Whatever.

With all that actually happens in this book, aside from the waste of space and words that are physical descriptors, this book would have better served as a GH novella. And for this, I'm really disappointed in the author. It's her choice to write what she wants. But I would think that she had a plan of where she was going. In fact, she originally only had less than 9 books on contract for this series. So, she obviously had some basic outline of where she wanted to go. Then, it seems that she got side-lined by other characters in the book. And, her other series. Again, it's her choice to write what she wants. However, it's hard for me to respect an author who agrees to write something (i.e., this series and contracts for it), then gives us what is essentially a novella but fills it up with unnecessary garbage just to make it appear a full-length novel.

Rambly review alert!

After 2 years of the events from the Archangel’s Legion. Archangel’s heart introduces a new sector of the Angels, the Luminata. With Cadre of Ten now having 11 Archangel’s which has never been seen in the world of Guild Hunter, the world is changing and so are the Archangels. The Cascade is slowly gaining momentum and with the Luminata summoning the Cadre to deal with situation of Luijian’s making in China….things are about to get a lot more dicey. Of course nothing is at it seems, secrets and lies will be unearthed.

Raphael and Elena: I just LOVEEE them and their relationship! It has been great to see them develop over the course of the series. Their relationship in this book is adorable, filled with teasing, love, affection, passion and understanding. It’s very different from the relationship they had in book 1, it still has elements of that but it so much richer and developed now. They truly understand where the other is coming from and I always love it when Raphael teases or trolls Elena, It’s hilarious!

We find out quite a bit about Aodhan , not everything of course which I think is left for his own book. But it was great seeing more of him, he is slowly becoming the angel he is meant to be. Not the damaged/recluse angel of the seven but the mischievous friend of Illium and a powerful angel in his own right. I’d really love to read Sparkle’s book. He is in some ways very different from the other seven (I mean they are all different) but maybe it’s his personality or his artistic side or unique looks that I’m fascinated by.

The plot was pretty intriguing involving the angel group ‘Luminata’ who are set apart from the different angels seeking enlightment and the situation in China. I don’t want to give away to much but I though the plot was done pretty well but for me I think Elena and Raphael’s relationship made the book for me. I also enjoyed the glimpses of Rapheal and his mother’s Caliane relationship as well the Caliane and Alexander’s friendship.

Avoiding telling spoilers unsuccessfully -> So at one point I knew what was going to happen with what Gain was doing etc but Nalini Singh still managed to surprise me and I am so happy for Elena. I mean she has family and friends and of course Raphael but I think this thing would be really special to her. It was just great twist and it would bring more joy to Elena.

I still sometimes can’t believe how far Elena (and Raphael) have come. Not only is she more confident in flying but as her role as his consort with how she deals with situations with her growing immortality. Elena has always been special to me (not just because I don’t usually read some couples books/series) but because of her character. It’s such a wonderful mixture of warrior, badass, vulnerable and lovable woman who developing into this amazing angel.

I also really enjoyed seeing the different facets to the different Archangels, they are all so very complex creatures with immeasurable power. So it was great to learn a few more things about each of them.

Anyways I loved this instalment of the Guild Hunter series! It showed so much of the newer aspects of the whole Angel/Archangel side of the Guild Hunter world. I do however wish we could have gotten a bit about the Legion and how they are doing.

4.5 stars---ARCHANGEL’S HEART is the ninth full-length installment in Nalini Singh’s contemporary, adult GUILD HUNTER dystopian/UF/paranormal series focusing on Archangel’s, angels, vampires, shifters and hunters. This is Archangel Raphael, and his consort Elena’s continuing story with a little bit of Aodhan aka Sparkle thrown in for some good measure. ARCHANGEL’S HEART can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for background and cohesion as many events in the current time line are as of a direct result of previous happenings and premises.

Told from third person perspective ARCHANGEL’S HEART follows Elena and Raphael as they journey to Morocco, Elena’s maternal grandmother’s homeland. The Luminata have called a meeting of the Cadre of Ten-the most powerful Archangels in order to make a decision about Lijuan’s lands. With the vampiric blood lust increasing, and villages destroyed by the marauding vampires, Lijuan’s lands must come under control. As the Cascade approaches (an apocalypse of sorts that will see the Archangels at war and the destruction of mankind), and Lijuan all but dead or chosen Sleep, the Luminata have demanded something be done. But not all is well in the Luminata stronghold, and something evil lurks within the walls and the hierarchy of controlling angels. Secrets, lies, betrayals and revenge haunt the halls and hidden rooms of the Luminata.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Aodhan aka Sparkle who accompanies our leading couple as Elena’s guard. Aodhan and Illium aka Bluebell have had a falling out, and their friendship struggles as Illium worries about the once-broken man. The action is limited; there are no wars or mid-air fights but we do see the tense negotiations between the Cadre of Ten, and learn a little bit about the tempestuous relationship between the Archangels in charge.

ARCHANGEL’S HEART reveals our heroine’s family history- Morocco holds the secrets to Elena’s past-a past that is haunted by hatred and betrayal. Elena and Raphael’s relationship continues to build-their love for one another an unbreakable bond. The premise is wondrous and enchanting; the characters are spirited, energetic and charismatic; the romance continues to blossom and build-Raphael and Elena’s love is passionate and intense- our heroine is strong and resilient as Raphael’s consort. Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series is a wonderful and breathtaking look at the power of the Archangels and the people they rule.

Four and a half from me
I confess this is my favourite series from this author and I'm always desperate to read the next instalment. However I've noticed that there's a lot of chatter about Bluebell and Sparkle and I have to point out this book is an Elena/Raphael story but fear not there's an awful lot of Aodhan aka Sparkle here with growth that made my heart sing but alas I'm getting ahead of myself .
Having survived the momentous battle with the Archangel of China, Elena and Raphael are on tenterhooks waiting to find out her next move as the Cascade rattles on changing Angelic kind once more. The Cadre are summoned by the Luminata to discuss who will rule over China in the absence of its Archangel Liujan but right from the start it's clear the Luminata (who should be impartial ) are keeping secrets. Just what they are hiding and how far the rot goes is something Elena is keen to discover but whilst her beloved Raphael is busy playing politics she has an agenda of her own, find out if there's a connection to her family or if the odd looks she keeps getting are just coincidence!
Oh boy this author sure does like keeping her readers guessing although I will admit I did kind of guess where this storyline might go. Also I was a little perplexed by the seemingly missing Archangel and just what her plans might be. No spoilers but this book went in a direction I hadn't initially expected. Am I disappointed? Well there's less action than I'd hoped for and I missed catching up with a certain group who have awakened . What this is though is a continuation of the rock solid relationship between Elena and Raphael, although it's distinctly lacking in salacious content here but their emotional bond truly felt soul deep. Prepare to be surprised by certain Archangels and watch our favourite hunter do what she does best!
This is a voluntary review for an arc copy from Netgalley and is my honest opinion

Nalini Singh has returned to Raphael and Elena in the ninth book of the Guild Hunter series. In this Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance hybrid, readers are once again submerged into a world where war is brewing. It seems like the archangels are gearing up for something big and doom seems like it’s only a few days away.

A lot of this book is about Elena and her past. We get a whole lot of backstory, especially concerning her mother. I liked this insight into Elena’s character as I think it further develops her. But there’s also quite a bit of time spent deepening the romance between her and Raphael. Quite a lot of the pages, especially in the beginning, is just Elena and Raphael telling/showing each other how much they love each other. That’s nice. I mean, I’m all for the romance but I was also hoping for more. While I love Elena and Raphael, I was looking forward to really progressing more into the politics of the world and maybe even learning more about some of the other characters.

I felt like we were stalled a lot in this book. Pages and pages were filled about the past whereas I was ready to move on. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the book quite a lot. I am just ready to have other characters get their stories told, namely an angel who I’ve been obsessed with since the beginning. I don’t know if I would be happy with another Raphael and Elena book if Singh were to do one. Especially after this book, I feel like we’ve covered everything there is to cover about them. I want new characters and new stories instead of filler to extend the series.

Nevertheless, some interesting advancements were made in this book. I just hope we have new narrators who will be able to continue the story.

Ninth in the Guild Hunter paranormal romance series and revolving around archangels who rule the world. The couple focus is on Elena and Raphael, and two years have passed since Archangel's Enigma , 8. If you're interested, there is a chronological listing of the Guild Hunter books on my website.

My Take
Singh opens with a combination of inner-thoughts and a humor hook that plays up what we all want to know: When will that shoe drop!? Unfortunately, Archangel's Heart is but a bridge for the archangels to tidy a few things up with the focus on the past history of Elena's family.

If you follow the Guild Hunter series, read this, for it's a pivotal story. We finally get the back history on Marguerite, Elena’s mother, and…hoo-boy. Is this ever a dark, revealing epiphany!?!! There are plenty of flashbacks throughout the story, including the prologue, along with Singh’s foreshadowing of the antagonist’s actions.

Singh uses an uneven third-person dual point-of-view with Elena’s perspective predominating and Raphael a second perspective in this story about love, loyalty, honor, and family. Traits that Elena, Raphael, and the new discoveries epitomize. Add in events that lead to yet more epiphanies — bad and good — for Elena, and for the other archangels, for a tense read.

I did appreciate the ending, as it completes one minor cycle, not so minor for Elena, even as it leaves the major one open.

The Story
Kisses of vampires are bloodying China, and even Xi cannot control them all. It’s a question of territory and whether Lijuan is even alive…and should the Cadre carve her territory up amongst themselves.

The summons from the Luminata brings events to a head, more so when the Archangels arrive for their summit meeting, for something is very wrong in Lumia.

The Characters
Raphael is the Archangel of New York who rules North America and is a member of the Cadre. He’s mated to Elieanora “Elena”, a.k.a., Ellie, Devereaux, a former born-Hunter whom he turned angel in Angels' Blood , 1. Montgomery is the butler in their home in the Enclave; Sivya is the chef whom Montgomery married a year ago.

Raphael’s Seven are…
…seven beings truly loyal to him. The mischievous Illium, a.k.a., Bluebell, is an angel who is back to progressing appropriately for his age; his mother is the broken Hummingbird. The sober Aodhan, a.k.a., Sparkle, is the shimmering artist angel, Illium’s best friend, and a student of the Hummingbird. Naasir is a chimera (a blend of boy and tiger created by Alexander) who is mated to Andi ( Archangel's Enigma ) who is working with Jessamy in the Refuge. The secretive Jason is Raphael's spymaster and mated to Mahiya ( Archangel's Storm , 5). Dmitri is Raphael’s second-in-command, a thousands-of-years-old vampire married to Honor ( Archangel's Blade , 4), a baby vampire who works to save children who were lost and alone. Venom is the youngest of the Seven, a vampire with deadly poison in his blood, and currently based in the Refuge.

Keir is their revered angelic healer. Remus, a failed member of the Luminata, had been Keir’s assistant when Aodhan broke. Captain Dougal “Mack” Mackenzie is a vampire and former Scottish laird who pilots Raphael’s plane. Stavre was the youngest angel to die in the Falling ( Archangel's Legion , 6). Suhani is a vampire receptionist at Angel Tower.

Elena’s Guard is…
…an accident and consists of Ashwini and Janvier; the young angel, Izak; and, the hunter-born Vivek Kapur, a newly made vampire ( Archangel's Shadow , 7) who had been the Guild’s head of intelligence and is now Jason’s right-hand man.

Blood-for-Less is…
…Elena’s new business with Marcia Blue the chief operating officer. Jonas is a vampire and Elena’s financial manager.

The Refuge is…
……a neutral retreat for angels to heal, teach, and work as well as their home and a sanctuary for their young. Each archangel has an enclave there for their people. Jessamy is an angel Historian who teaches there and is married to Galen, Raphael's weaponsmaster (Angels' Flight: "Angels' Dance", 0.4). Sameon is a young angel with whom Elena is friends ( Archangel's Kiss , 2).

The Guild Hunters are…
…an organization of humans and hunter-born which tracks down runaway vampires in breach of their contract. Sara, Elena’s best friend, is the director and married to Deacon, an amazing weaponsmith (Must Love Hellhounds: "Angel's Judgment", 0.5). Their young daughter, Zoe, adores Raphael ( Zoe's Workshop , 6.5). Fellow hunters include Ransom who is married to Nyree, a librarian; Demarco; and, Ashwini, another of Elena's good friends, who is married to Janvier, one of Raphael’s vampires ("Angel's Pawn", 0.6, and Archangel's Shadow , 7).

The Luminata are…
…a spiritual sect of angels who seek enlightenment. They alone can summon the Cadre. Their stronghold is Lumia in Morocco. The 5,000+-year-old Gian has been their leader for the past four hundred years. Gervais is Gian’s second-in-command. Other brothers include Natal; the relatively new Ibrahim; Laric, a.k.a., Stillness, who had been scarred in the flames that killed Nadiel; Cristiano; Donael is old enough to have been one of Lijuan’s playmates; Reed had been their leader until he Slept; and, Hanjel had been the leader before Gian.

The Repository of Knowledge. The Gallery is actually a tower of galleries devoted to art categorized by floor, art that is the greatest produced by angels. Renate is a nine-thousand years-plus vampire of great beauty. Ophelia had been a great angel artist. Josette and Sahar were kept women.

There is a small (and terrified) town near Lumia. Riad is the young boy who becomes friends with Ellie.

Sister Constance is the woman who received the child, Marguerite. Jeffrey Deveraux is Elena’s jerk of a father. Beth is the other sister who survived; Maggie is her baby. Harrison Ling is her jerk of a vampire husband. Slater Patalis is the vampire who went mad and torture-killed Elena’s sisters, Belle and Ariel. It was his attentions that pushed Elena’s mother, Marguerite, to her actions. Majda was Marguerite’s mother who was known as Sana Alayna in Paris; Jean-Baptiste Etienne was a vampire soldier.

The Cadre consists of…
…the other archangels in the world who rule territories. Titus, an ally and the warrior Archangel of Southern Africa, has gained power over the earth. Mau’lea is his escort. Astaad, the Archangel of the Pacific Isles, dominates the sea and usually indulges his concubines; Mele, a scholar, is one of his favorites. Magnus is one of Astaad’s vampires and his escort. The brutally dominant Dahariel is Astaad’s second and Michaela’s former lover.

Michaela is beyond arrogant — think snotty top model, once known as the Archangel of Constantinople and today the Archangel of Budapest. Riker is her second-in-command, a psychopathic vampire who hates Elena. Neha is the Archangel of India, the Queen of Snakes and Poisons. Two of her generals include Hiran and Rhys (Brigitte is his heart mate). Anoushka had been Neha’s daughter ( Archangel's Kiss ).

Elijah is an ally with his beloved Hannah. The former Archangel of Persia, Favashi, who can control the winds, is now the Archangel of Sumeria, Persia being split between her and the former Archangel of Persia, Alexander. Yet another sleeping Ancient who woke ( Archangel's Enigma ), he has become an active member retaking his former title and taking on his murdered son’s, Rohan's, palace and territory. Xander is his grandson who has fallen in love with the Ellie who will shoot arrows at Raphael. General Valerius is Alexander’s third.

Charisemnon, known as the Archangel of Disease, holds Northern Africa and is a cowardly, disease-causing bastard responsible for the Falling ( Archangel's Legion ). Caliane is Raphael’s mother, an Ancient who woke in Archangel’s Consort , 3, and has taken over Japan so that her people of Amanat have a home. Nadiel had been Raphael’s archangel father. Tasha is Caliane’s second and had been Raphael’s playmate and lover in the past. Zhou Lijuan is the Archangel of China and Goddess of Death who lost her battle and disappeared from sight, leaving Beijing a crater only. Xi is her angel general and second-in-command keeping her territory in check.

Cascade is a type of supercharging event that increases an archangel's abilities or powers and can cause catastrophes throughout the world. The Enclave is a "suburb" just outside New York where many of the angels have a home. Vampires are made by angels who require the newly made vampire serve them for one hundred years. Vampires who became so old that they retreat from society are called the Withdrawn.

The Cover and Title
The cover is feral with the white-blonde Elena in a high-necked, sleeveless deep royal blue dress with a slit up to her hip and wearing black knee-high boots, her black-blue-purple wings spread wide, a sheath buckled on her thigh, more sheaths on her forearms, and her custom crossbow in hand, as she stands cloud-top against an orange-to-yellow sky. The author’s name is at the top in an embossed silver and the same on the title at the bottom. The series information is tiny at the tip of Elena’s left [to us] wing.

The title is odd, and I can only imagine that it refers to Raphael, that his Archangel’s Heart has grown to encompass so much more.

Wow! This was an amazing story. I'm very surprised that the author can keep things very fresh on the 9th book. This book centers around Elena and Raphael. It is nice to visit with our main couple in the series. We also get to see more of Aodhan, a very welcome change. I feel like we know the rest of the seven fairly well, with the exception of Venom (and that has to do with the fact that he hasn't been around in a while).

We learn that there is a secret brotherhood that has the authority to call on the cadre to meet when there's suspicion of a missing archangel. This is an invitation that cannot be rejected. Lijuan has been gone from the world for about two years and it is time to determine if she's alive and what is to happen to her territory. At least that's the plot line that gets things started.

This book is more about showcasing Elena and Raphael. Their relationship with one another and with others. We get to see so much of the cadre. I basically love all of them, with the exception of the Archangel of Disease. Even Michaela has some fantastic moments. The book itself feels very tame when it comes to intimacy, yet it is more passionate than previous ones as we get to see/feel the love between Elena and Raphael.

There were some coincidences that were pretty wild, but I still enjoyed them. Elena gets to learn more about her family that I was expecting and we get to see an amazing reunion. Oddly enough, I ended up in tears. I was very pleased with this book!

Elena is constantly learning not only about her sexy Archangel consort, but also about the Cadre itself and how they rule. She just learned from Raphael that there is actually one group of angels called the Luminata who can call the Cadre to meet and has just did so. It seems everyone has been searching for the Archangel Lijuan, and now things have turned dangerous, so the Luminata has called a meeting to deal with her land.

Elena is more excited about where the meeting is going to be held, which is the land of her mother’s family—Morocco. While Raphael is dealing with the Cadre, Elena is going to doing a personal type of hunt to see if she can discover any information about her mother’s family. She knows that her unique coloring might be a clue. However, as soon as Raphael and Elena hit the home of the Luminata, it is very evident that something is very wrong there.

The more Elena digs, the more she discovers that the path of tracing her grandparents just might point to a very unexpected place and the past and present just might be closer than anyone ever expected. If that isn’t enough to keep Elena and Raphael busy, the Cadre has attracted the deadly attention of the Cascade and, of course, the Archangels cannot agree on the Lijuan question: Is she really asleep or just laying low to regain her strength for another deadly attack? When the answers to all of the questions are answered, several lives will change forever—especially Elena and Raphael’s.

An unexpected trip to Morocco gives Elena a chance to learn more about her maternal family while accompanying Raphael to a mandatory meeting of the Cadre. Neither expects the strange twists and turns they discover in Archangel’s Heart. I’m going to say right off the bat that this is a “who needs sleep anyway” book. Once you start it, you won’t want to stop reading it. I know I didn’t. I was totally engrossed with discovering more about the inner workings of the Cadre and also watching as Elena discovered the mystery on why her mother was orphaned. I also enjoyed watching as the various members of the Cadre interacted Unlike the last few books which were spaced closely together, this one opens two years after the last.

One of the first things I noticed was that the love between Raphael and Elena had not only grown, but had relaxed into an even more give-and-take between them. Of course, I loved the same wonderful lighthearted periods along with the deep suspense and even danger that I have come to love with the Guild Hunter books. I found that every page added to the story, and I really just never wanted to put it down in order to do anything. My suggestion to you is to not open the front cover until you know you have an extended period of time to just read. There was no doubt in my mind that Archangel’s Heart has leaped to the top of my favorites by this author, and I love all of her books for different reasons. Of course I’m Joyfully Recommending Archangel’s Heart as a must read. With all the changes that happened in the end, I can tell you that I’m already panting for the next book in this series.

I love this book!!!

Archangel's Heart is the 9th book in the Guild Hunter Series and the 5th that focuses and Elena and Raphael. This book takes place two years after the events in "Archangel's Enigma". Since then no one has seen Lijuan and the Cascade appears to be on pause. However all is not calm in the world and the Archangels have been called together to find a solution.

This book does not move the overall story arc(the cascade) much further, but it is interesting to see how the relationships between the characters we know have grown since we last saw them. Elena has become more powerful in her angelic abilities and has found a path as a Consort to Raphael.

So much has happened since the series started, I found it refreshing that this book allowed time to process the events of the last 3 books, and set up future stories. We also get to see more of this world and the angels who are part of it. Nalini does a great job of making multi-dimensional characters that you want to know more about. I am so interested/invested in Zander, Laric, Titus, Mele and the Seven I even want to know more about Tasha.

We also find out more about Elena's past. This is the first time we see her talk about her sisters and mother with joy and laughter overshadowing her sorrow. I feel that this will lead into what made Elena so powerful as a Hunter born and will make her powerful as an Angel. I am so happy we get a tidbit about Vivek and I love that we learn more about Aodhan.
*I won an ARC copy of the book, but this is my personal and honest opinion.* ENJOY!

ARCHANGEL’S HEART is the newest installment in the Guild Hunters series and it is beyond amazing! I have loved Nalini Singh’s stories from the start, and she continues to get better and better as time goes on. With this story, the Luminata have called for a meeting of the Cadre. Normally, no one can call them all, but the Luminata are a group that keeps the balance of power from tipping over. With Lijuan disappearance, it appears that the world may be out an Archangel so measures need to be taken and discussions need to be had.

But there is something wrong with the Luminata and Elena’s instincts are screaming at her to be careful and learn what she can. And while she is there, in the land of her ancestors, she is going to research not only what is causing her concern, but also try to learn more about her family. Learning about her family is going to be more difficult than she thinks, and the danger is more insidious than anyone believed. The only ones that Elena and Raphael can trust are those closest to them, and the truth about the Luminata are going to cause a tidal wave of reactions that will not be forgotten for millennia!

I have always loved Elena’s character. She is amazingly strong and not just physically. As the only human in known history being turned into an Angel, she has to deal with scrutiny and viciousness on an almost daily basis. Being part of the Archangel world is not easy as the angels do not have human feelings and Elena will never lose what is means to be human and what is means to have such a short life span. But this does not make her weak. In fact, she is one of the strongest female characters that I have read in years.

Raphael is no slouch when it comes to power either. As the youngest Angel to ever join the Cadre and being the son of two Ancients, Raphael was always thought to be a power. With the Cascade wreaking havoc through the world, powers spontaneously appearing and threatening to destroy those they appear in, Raphael has proven to be a power among power. His character can be coldly logical, but then there is the tender side that he show to Elena that makes him appear more human. When he loves, he loves with his whole being, and it is a beautiful thing to read about.

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy.

Well, I’ve loved this series since I read the first one aggees ago? and reread some of my favourite ones from it.
Its a series that’s changed hugely since then though, evolved much the same as Raphael has! I think its one that though each book is more or less complete, you need to start at the beginning, because there are so many characters, its such a complex world that jumping in cold with have you lost.

So, I knew who everyone was and yet I still had to keep thinking back to how exactly they all fit together. There are so many characters invovled now that a list of who is who and how they connect would be useful!!
This book is more a part of the overall story arc than an individual romance, as some of them are.

The archangels have been called together to discuss Lijuan and her territory. Who can call the group together though? I mean, they’re very much autonomous beings, but we learn of a new group, a kind of overall order put together aeons ago for just such a purpose, as well as finding their own paths to Luminescence, a kind of personal goal of perfection – kind of like our mystics and religious wise men. ( Why are they always male though – the Luminata seem to be too – I can’t remember any females there).
They don’t call archangels to account per se, but see when they need to meet to discuss something important. At the moment they’re dealing with the Cascade and all the side effects of that, the fact there are eleven archangels, unheard of before as there are only ten territories, each are jealously guarded, and of course there’s Lijuan who’s been acting more and more deranged, causing such major issues for angels, vampires and mortals alike with her insistence that she’s a Goddess, and therefore above everyone and everything.
Seems simple doesn’t it – she’s not around, meet to decide if she’s dead or asleep, and what’s going to happen with her territory. At the moment its bringing bloodshed to the borders that needs to be stopped, as without a ruler in effect some of the vampires are going on mass killing sprees.

Only archangels and their seconds, plus consorts are invited – and the archangels have to go, to not appear is to forfeit their territory. Its a real royal summons…
Michaela is her poisonous best, though maybe that description should be for Neha, she’s a real nasty, still holding Raphael guilty for killing her daughter, though it had to be done.
I loved seeing more of Aodhan, but missed Ilium, (sparkle and bluebell!!) love the friendship and banter between those two.
Raphael is at his commanding majestic best, with Elena keeping him a bit on the humane side. Archangels do tend to dismiss mortals, even the ones we think are more compassionate and some of the discussions here about the local village show that really well.
I did miss seeing the Guild personnel, and the vampires, especially Dmitri and Venom.

Lumina though turns out not to be the peaceful place they all imagine, and the events aren’t as simple as they thought. It actually gave me nightmares after reading one night, not that its a horror kind of read, and no worse in the violence than any other in the series. It was the creepiness of the Luminata that did it for me….It’s a place full of hidden secrets masquerading as something else. Question is are they important secrets, what are they, why and how did they happen, and how does all that fit with the purpose of the place?

Still, I don’t regret reading it, despite the bad dreams!!
Its a fantastic read as always, bringing in all the archangels, a new group in the Luminata, answering some long held questions, and revealing more about Elena’s background.
Its not my favourite of the series, those tend to be the more romance centred ones, and the ones centred around Raphael’s territory, but as part of the overall story its moved things on a great deal.

It’s one of the few longer series that’s got so much going on each book still feels fresh and exciting. I couldn’t get in to the Psy novels, read the first ages ago, but wish I could as that series has got so many now and I love ones like these.
Maybe its time for a reread, sometimes I find that on second reading and with the passage of time I’m in a better frame to enjoy stories that didn’t grab me first time round.
Of course there’s the usual issue of time and cash? to contend with too.

Stars: Five, one to keep, to savour rereading – preferably after reading the first book.

Everytime I think this series can't possibly get any better Nalini Singh proves me wrong. I've loved getting to know some of the Seven better in the last couple of books but I'm always happy to get the chance to revisit Elena and Raphael. Their relationship is one of my favourites and I love seeing how far they've come together. They still have their struggles but their love has a rock solid foundation and they are 100% committed to each other.

Archangel's Heart is a little slower paced after the last couple of books, there are no major battles between the archangels but that doesn't mean nothing is happening. It's been two years since the end of Archangel's Enigma and everything has fallen quiet, the cascade has halted progress and Lijuan hasn't been seen since her last big fight with Raphael and Alexander. As much as she's trying to enjoy the calm before the storm Elena is just waiting for the other shoe to drop and she doesn't have to wait long when Raphael and the rest of the Cadre are called to a meeting by the Luminata.

You might be shocked to discover that there is a group out there that would dare to call upon the Cadre but that is precisely what the Luminata was created for. They're basically the equivalent of an immortal monastery full of angels who have chosen to leave the world behind so they can follow the path to luminescence. The Luminata live in an isolated compound where they are the keepers of important angelic art and historical documents and they were also given the right to call the Cadre to a meeting if any archangel ever disappeared from the public eye. Since Lijuan has been missing for two years and there are increasing reports of bloodlust from the vampires in her region the Luminata have called the Cadre together to discuss the matter.

Travelling to the heart of Morocco with Raphael and Aodhan, Elena is hoping she might be able to discover more about her mother's family and where she came from but when they arrive in Lumia it quickly becomes clear that not everything is what it should be in a place built for peaceful contemplation. There is an undercurrent of fear in the local village and Elena is determined to get to the bottom of things but what she finds will shock her to the core.

I think it's fair to say I loved this book, it's always fun to see the Cadre in action and I really appreciate that the archangels are all such complex beings so even that the ones who I wouldn't consider Raphael's allies aren't always completely evil. The relationship between Elena and Raphael is fantastic but I also really enjoy the friendships she is making with other immortals like Hannah, Elijah, Titus and the members of Raphael's Seven. There are some fantastic moments between Aodhan and Illium, I'm shipping those two harder than ever before but I have complete faith in Nalini and as long as they both get a HEA I will be happy with whoever she matches them up with (that's probably a little bit of a lie because I'm going to be devastated if they don't hook up but I do trust Nalini to do what's best for her characters in the long run!). One of the things I loved most about this one was getting to learn more about Elena's family history and I can't wait to see how certain revelations play out as the series continues.

The Guild Hunter series is one of my favourites, the world building is phenomenal, the characters are amazing and Nalini Singh is still keeping the plot fresh and exciting nine books in which is a skill not all authors are able to pull off. I don't want this series to ever end and I'm already desperate to get my hands on the next instalment!

The deadly Archangel's of China, Lijuan is rumoured to be dead or in the deep sleep of angels. A mysterious order called the Luminata call for a Cadre meeting to decide the fate of her territory, which is beginning to fall to bloodlust. Accompanying her archangel, Elena Deveraux finds nothing but unease and secrets in Lumia as she tries to find a connection to her maternal side.

Archangel's Heart is much like book one, Angel's Heart. if you remove all the other elements, it is but another story of Elena, Guild Hunter and more. Visiting Lumia, located in Morocco gives Elena the chance to explore her unusual complexion, such as her white blonde hair. Something sets Elena on edge as she searches, giving her the sense that she must lie or risk her life.

Raphael's abilities are further explored, Tasha is honour bound to help Elena with translations, the Cadre of Ten make some important decisions... This all happens in Archangel's Heart. Each book in the Guild Hunter series is a large stepping stone, progress towards the final destination which is yet to be revealed. Archangel's Heart certainly is one of the best books in the series so far, with heaps of development involving angelic history, customs and character facts.

This book also showcases Aodhan in a small subtle way, yet I suspect he may never get his own book. Archangel's Heart will set your very own mortal heart pounding against your chest as you worry about the fates of Elena and her friends/family.

While I am always eager for whatever comes my way with this series, I find that the ongoing saga of Elena and Raphael is the story that is at the heart of things for me.

Archangel's Heart is a story of an ongoing love affair for the ages that doesn't grow stale, but proves again why Rafael and Elena are together and demonstrates how far they have come as they battle an evil rotting in the shadows and shine light into the secrets of Elena's past. And if they're rock star romance power wasn't enough, Aodhan and the Cadre along with a new cast of angel characters have plenty of page time as the ongoing threat of Lijuan and the Cascade continues to pose trouble in the world.

I found this ninth installment in the Guild Hunter series a gem from cover to cover. The Guild Hunter series is one that is best enjoyed in order particularly this one as it references things back all the way to the beginning and builds on the series arc that has continued through the series.

Elena and her archangel are summoned to a meeting with the Cadre of Archangels to discuss the trouble building in Lijuan's territory as a result of her two years of silence. There is speculation that she has gone into the Sleep while others say she is planning something big. Meanwhile, the Cascade of magic induced events has been holding off on the horizon though Elena feels that at any moment the other shoe will drop and it will crash into them yet again. Illium has recovered from near destruction and Aodhan continues to show he is ready to rejoin the world again, but Elena worries for both her Blueboy and her Sparkle along with many others.

Rafael has to appear for the summons or suffer the consequences. The meeting of the Cadre was called by the aloof sect of angels called the Luminata who choose to live apart from the world seeking a higher plane. The Luminata live in a neutral place of their own and are neutral in allegiance. Though, he would protect his Elena- his Guild Hunter, she, too, must be at his side in a show of strength and part of angel politics. His Guild Hunter is a strong warrior, but she is still a fledgling angel and holds his heart.

Their arrival at the hidden city brings to light a mystery from Elena's past and a growing sense of unease that someone is working in the shadows for their own purposes. Rafael and the Cadre must figure out what to do about Lijuan's territory, but he and Elena must also work to stop a new threat as well. And the Cascade has returned again full of sound and fury.

Alright, if I didn't love this series for its romance (and I do) or for it's world of angels and vampires and gifted human hunters, then the exciting adventures and mysteries that occur would definitely hook me in.

Rafael and Elena's ongoing story as their relationship grows and reaches new depth is a source of warm delight. I love that they actually grow as individuals and a couple. He is domineering and protective, but she is mindful of motives and situations. And yes, a heroine who is not stupid. Elena knows her strengths, but she knows that she is a feeble match for the power of older angels, especially the archangels. Rafael provides Aodhan and he cautions her and she listens, but she also makes it clear that there are times that she must stand on her own strength and he struggles, but does let her. They are true partners in love and in their position as Archangel and Consort.

I loved the secondary story that was running alongside of Aodhan. Much of his past is a mystery. I know he suffered horrendously and this nearly broke him, but in this book, Rafael has given Aodhan the responsibility of being his and Elena's guard since they are only allowed one to accompany them to the Luminata's city. Aodhan desires to prove himself and he does. There is the temptation to join the sequestered angels where he is not prodded to put himself forward or heal from his pain, but he is Elena's guard. I can't wait to get more of his story in the future.

The blend of mystery, political intrigue, and angel conflict for the action side was well done. The mystery is not difficult to figure out and isn't meant to be, but it was fun and exciting watching it all unfold. The author has a great sense of pace, atmosphere, and timing so that it all built to the right moment when I was kept in high anticipation. What came was a page turner and what came afterward was just the right amount of denouement to leave me warmed and satisfied. And also wanting more.

All in all, a strong series proves why it continues to be much anticipated and a feverish amount of anticipation and excitement for each release that never disappoints. Guild Hunter series is a crossover between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance that I can heartily recommend to lovers of both. Passion, mystery and action in a paranormal world are not to be missed.

Archangel’s Heart by Nalini Singh is the 9th book in her wonderful Guild Hunter series. I loved this book, but no surprise, as Elena and Raphael were the focus of this story. I always love anything about them, as they are a fantastic couple.

In Archangel’s Heart, all the members of the Cadre (ruling Archangels) are summoned by the Luminata, an ancient group of angels, to a meeting they cannot refuse. As we already know, Lijuan, one of the most powerful archangels, is either missing or dead. The meeting in Morocco will force the Cadre to determine the fate of Lijuan and her territory.

Raphael and Elena with Aodhan for support head for Lumina. Elena knows that the Luminata have stored records that cover just about everything from the beginning of time, and she is determined to use her free time to learn the truth about her family. Raphael, Elena and Aodhan can tell from their arrival that things are not as they seem; something isn’t right. What follows is an exciting story filled with details that flawlessly continue the world building that Nalini is a master at.

It was fun to see all the Archangel’s together again in one place, as they try to decide how to handle Lijuan’s title, and determine if she is dead or alive. They know the situation could be volatile, if they have to battle a crazed, but ultra powerful ancient archangel. I also enjoyed seeing more of Aodhan, and watching him become more confident in bringing himself to be more visible again. There is so much more we can learn about Aodhan, and I look forward to the time he will have his own book.

While the Archangel’s meet, Elena and Aodhan visited the huge multilevel library of records. Elena will begin to learn a little, until she senses that something bad is hidden deep in the dungeons of the library. Elena is also not comfortable around the Luminata leader, who seems to be enamored by her. As the hidden secrets of Luminata are revealed, the danger escalates, revealing terrible truths. To tell too much more would be spoilers. All I will say is that Nalini Singh has once again given us a wonderful addition to this fantastic series. I could not put the book down, with the last half of the book totally mesmerizing me. Needless to say, Nalini always continues to wow me with every book in both of her super fantastic series. If you have not read this series or anything by Nalini Singh, you are missing one of the best authors in the literary world that never fail to give you fantastic continued world-building, exciting, great characters & sexy stories.

Archangel’s Heart is a quiet, intense read that’s different – but no less interesting – than the powerful thrills of the previous Guild Hunter books. It’s been two years since the events of Archangel’s Enigma and the dangerous tide of power that is the Cascade has been put on pause. Everyone is in a holding pattern, and it’s putting angels, vampires, and hunters alike on edge. With tension at a breaking point, it’s almost a blessing when Raphael is summoned by the Luminata, an ancient order of angels who operate mostly outside angelic law. The Luminata have called the Cadre together to determine what to do about the archangel Lijuan’s territory. So it is that Raphael and Elena travel to the Luminata compound in Morocco, where soon they’re faced with the task of uncovering dangerous secrets that could forever change their world. Magic and mystery go hand-in-hand in this story as Elena searches for answers about her family history. The Luminata may hold the answers to Elena’s questions, but there’s something deeply wrong with these angels, and I loved watching Elena, Raphael, and their friends put the pieces of the puzzle together. What lies at the heart of Luminata I won’t say, but it is a mystery that leads to many small, intimate developments that carry great emotional weight for the characters we know and love.

There are a lot of reasons to love the Guild Hunter’s series, from Nalini Singh’s gorgeous writing to her incredible world building and more, but what makes this series special to me is the characters. In Archangel’s Heart the characters we’ve come to know and love continue to strengthen and evolve in beautiful ways. Elena and Raphael are the heart of the book and I loved seeing how they have grown as a couple. They’ve settled into their relationship and remain a dynamic couple that fit each other like lock and key. The story also allows other characters a chance to shine and I adored getting to know more about the other archangels and those who have accompanied them to Morocco. The Cadre is a powerful group and each member is both terrifying and impossibly alluring. Who knew watching angelic politics play out could be so compelling?

The strongest supporting role in this book is Aodhan – once the most withdrawn member of Raphael’s Seven – who joins Elena and Raphael on their journey. I’ll admit right up front that Aodhan is one of my two favorite characters in the series (the other being Illium), so I devoured every bit of new information about him. His past – even the glimpses of it we’re given in this story – is heartbreaking, but watching him slowly come back to life tugged on my heartstrings like you wouldn’t believe. Aodhan is quite simply a gorgeously-drawn character and the all-too-brief moments between he and Illium seethed with such intensity I had to stop and re-read them multiple times before continuing the rest of the book. There’s been much debate on whether or not Ms. Singh will romantically pair up Aodhan and Illium, and though I usually keep my ships out of reviews I will say that I’m firmly in the camp that hopes they will end up being each other’s happily ever after. There is such rich chemistry between the two that I find myself utterly enthralled whenever they share the page.

Archangel’s Heart is in many ways a bridge book that sets the stage for the action to come. It’s the calm before the storm (relatively speaking), but that doesn’t mean the story won’t engage you. Ms. Singh’s writing is top-notch, her characters unforgettable, and I finished Archangel’s Heart incredibly eager to read the next Guild Hunter novel.

The Cadre has been summoned by a mysterious sect of scholars known as the "Luminata." It's been 2 yrs since Lijuan was last seen and the Luminata has decided it's time for the Cadre to decide what to do with her lands. When Elena discovers that Lumia is located in Morocco (where her grandmother was from) and that it's the angelic repository of basically all history she decides she might as well research into her past while she's there. She encounters strange coincidences and uncovers the mysterious origins of her mother.

If you missed the last couple books you could probably still easily follow along because basically the only thing that happened relevant to this book is the ancient archangel Alexander woke up right after Lijuan killed his son and then Raphael came and saved the day and shot some laser beams at her till she went away.

Anyways, the "mystery" here is fairly easy to solve early on but I still found it entertaining cause Elena and Raphael are my favorite narrators in this series and for some reason i never find their books boring. I didn't even care that this mysterious sect of ancient scholars came completely out of nowhere (they were pretty interesting). I've been curious about Elena's mysterious vampire ancestor ever since it was mentioned and this book has all the answers. I also just like it when all the snooty archangels get together (even Tasha shows up).

The only thing that bothers me is the whole thing with Illium and Aodhan. They seem to be a couple (i'm fine with that) but they got into some kind of tiff that involved Aodhan's still unexplained past and not much of it made much sense to me because the author continues to be ridiculously vague about whatever happened to him. It's honestly gotten to the point where i'm not even interested anymore--i mean obviously, it will involve lots of sex and torture but as for why and by who? I just don't care anymore. It's not that i don't like him it's just that I wish the author would either write his book already or quit referencing it so much if she's going to be so vague (i feel it makes things unnecessarily confusing).

It’s been two years since the events of Archangel’s Enigma and all has gone quiet. The Cascade seems to be on hold, Lijuan remains in hiding and Elena isn’t the only one getting restless. This book starts with a definite sense of lurking menace and like many Guild Hunter novels, who knows where it will head next.

Except, this is kind of an odd one. Nalini Singh is a master at threading overarching plots throughout her books, while also focusing in on new romances to keep each book moving. So as this is an Elena/Raphael book, I was expecting it to be all about the big picture, but it’s really more about the small details and instead of romance we get politics. We get lots of Cadre fencing and some interesting exploration of Archangel political power – and why it’s a bad idea for anyone to live outside their control – but the main plot itself doesn’t really advance much. I was expecting a big showdown at some point. I didn’t get it.

However, this isn’t entirely a bad thing, because there is so much Aodhan in this book. I loved getting to know him better, seeing him come back to life and make bonds outside of his wonderful relationship with Illium. That is hands down my favorite aspect of this book.

We also get to see more Hannah. I loved seeing her friendship with Elena develop a bit more. She’s so very different but has her own strengths and I really like her. It was also interesting to see what’s been going on with Alexander and his people too. Oh, and Elena also goes hunting for more information on her family with results that I’d been expecting for a while. Plus more scenes between her and her big bad archangel, which will always be wonderful for me because I love them together.

The main plot of the book is more mystery-solving than action, which definitely led to a quieter book overall. However, I still devoured it because it’s a detail rich world that always leaves me wanting more. Overall it might have felt like the quiet before the storm, slowly creeping towards the next showdown, but since I will read absolutely anything Nalini writes and love everything to do with these characters, it still worked for me. It may have been a touch more predictable than this series tends to be, but I cannot wait to see where it all heads next.

Archangel's Heartis #9 in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. In this book the focus is back on Elena and Raphael and their ever maturing relationship. This time they are off to Morocco where the Luminata have called all the Cadre (the group of archangels who rule the world), because one of the Cadre - Lijuan ruler of China is missing. Is she dead? Hiding out? Or gone into a deep Sleep that lasts for centuries? They must find out, at the moment now that Caliane (Raphael's mother) and Alexander have arisen from Sleep there could be eleven archangels. There can only be ten.

We also have some focus on Aodhan and Illium, two angels from Raphaels Guard. Mostly it is on Aodhan who accompanies Elena and Raphael to Morocco. We learn more about him, see him developing and healing a little more from the atrocities he suffered. I really enjoyed his part in the story and know his full story must be on the horizon!

The Luminata are meant to be monk like men who are seeking enlightenment, however as soon as they land Elena and the others sense something is not right. The tension builds as they explore the place and visit a nearby town. A few of the Luminata are helpful, especially a young one called Ibrahim who helps them out where he can. But is he too young and innocent?

I enjoyed seeing the mother / son relationship between Caliane and Raphael and Tasha her second in command and that of Elena. Tasha is still doing things to try and tip off Elena into jealousy but not with any success.

This book is political as the cadre deliberate, so much power all together. It seems to move slowly, however it depths the characters, is tension filled and there was always something happening that engaged me. Elena's past is rooted in Morocco and that angle of the story was totally addictive but no spoilers!

This book makes me want to reread and reacquaint myself again with the whole series. It was an absorbing and emotional read. Every detail needs to be read, you can't afford to skip a line, everything counts. Fabulous writing, satisfying reading, the very best!

'He was hers. She was his.
And together, they were something far better than either one of them was alone.'

Over and over and over again, I have read the books in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh—and with good reason. They are consistently captivating, unfailingly interesting, and filled with intrigue and mystery, romance and heat, drama and tension.

Archangel's Heart is no exception. This ninth installment takes us back to the original couple, Elena and Raphael, and they are as powerfully electric as ever. I loved being back with Ellie and Raphael, seeing their growth as a couple in a changing, unstable world, and watching them navigate politics as an indivisible unit. That Ms. Singh can infuse the love story of an archangel and a vampire hunter/angel with very real, very human emotions is a gift, as is her ability to create and build upon an intricate world filled with complex relationships, otherworldly creatures and rife with danger.

A gift for which I am grateful—and one which I hope she will continue to keep giving us for a long time to come. With the fantastic development of Aodhan here, along with the propulsion of the overarching storyline, it certainly seems like we have many, many Guild Hunter books in our future. (Side note: I *could* devote paragraphs to Sparkle, my favorite of Raphael's Seven, but I will leave it at this—his story is sure to be heartbreaking and haunting, and I simply cannot wait for it.)

Which is great for existing fans like me—and those still yet to discover this series. With surprising twists and turns, Archangel's Heart comes with many, many questions as well as some much needed answers (thank goodness!), and is simply another unputdownable Guild Hunter book I am sure to revisit as I wait (im)patiently for book ten. Over and over and over again... ~ Beth, 5 stars

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

In ARCHANGEL'S HEART there's danger lurking due to Lijuan, one of the most powerful and deadly angel's being dormant for two years. This calls for a meeting of the Cadre of angels to discuss the Lijuan's impending wake up and the uneasy balance of power between the archangels. Aside from the tension and unease of what will happen if and when Lijuan wakes up, there is some trouble brewing with the Luminata; a monk-like sect of angels who called the meeting of the Cadre of Angels. It was an interesting turn of focus where the bigger danger of a super creepy angel rising from the grave to reek havoc on the world took a backseat to the creepy and secretive Luminata plot.

The Guild Hunter series is known for its sweeping romances and high flying adventures but what I loved most was the mystery and almost claustrophobic feel to the story since such powerful angels are forced to be kept in close quarters (for angels at least) for a period of time and there's a dangerous rotten core bleeding through the Luminata that Elena is tasked to uncover. I loved this blend of mystery, political intrigue, and action. While the mystery was kind of easy to figure out, the thrilling journey towards the final outcome was well worth the simplicity.

One of the smaller story arcs I liked was one involving Elena and her search for where her family came from. Since this story takes place in Morocco, we get to see that story unfold and link to the main story line in an unlikely way. The ending of ARCHANGEL'S HEART, like most of the books in this series left me wanting to continue the story to see what comes next! I adore this series for not only the world-building but its characters who contain such wild passion and the sweeping, epic story of angels.

I always come back to Nalini Singh novels with love of a good yarn and anticipation on my heart. This one didn't disappoint. When a first heard about the Guild Hunter series I was SO disappointed, all I could think was, "Oh, ick, not another , blecky angel series! Mope, no way, no how!" So I ignored the books until there were about four or five out. Then I was bored. And I love her other stuff. And I was bored. She's a good writer. And did I say I was bored? I picked up the second one in the series. ...Hey, I wasn't bored, these sure weren't my momma's angels! Damn, these angels were HAWT! No boredom here at all! Solid world building, excellent character development, good pacing, satisfying plot. Just the things I've come to expect from Ms. Singh, and she doesn't disappoint! Okay, it's not rocket surgery. But if I'd wanted that I'd be Lindsey Hilton or Paris Lohan and maybe be majoring in Brain Science and reading non-fiction. Yes, the good guys come out on top in the end, the bad guys get their comeuppance, and the world turns for another day. I read Romantic Fiction, not drama or True Crime for a reason. I LIKE to sleep at night, and dreams of hawt vampires and angels and being a guild hunter wouldn't be a bad thing to follow me to bed. Just sayin'.

Archangel's Heart is a wonderful rejoinder back into the relationship of the couple who started it all... Raphael and Elena. This story picks up about two years after Archangel's Enigma, where we saw Naasir and Andi pair up, an ancient archangel awake, and the Cascade continue to shake things up for everyone. Things have been quiet over the past two years, and the stagnant period has everyone getting more and more antsy. With all the trouble that Lijuan has caused in the past, everyone is concerned by this long period of silence. So when an ancient sect of monk-like angels, the Luminata, called a conclave of all the archangels, I just knew things were going to get interesting.

So the Cadre of archangels, including our two ancients, are headed to the Luminata's hidden compound in Morocco. As the Archangel of New York, Raphael was tied up in political meetings with the Cadre, which allowed Elena to poke around the the compound and its library in search of information about her family history. I don't remember if we were told in the past that Elena could trace her family to Morocco, but the interweaving of her history with the political intrigue of the Cadre, and the strange Luminata, kept me turning the page well into the night. The pacing of story moved along at a steady clip, with several different story angles converging together at the perfect time for the big reveal. I know that I was completely captivated as the facts were trickled out, and I felt super greedy for more! So now I am really excited to see where the future is going given what we learned.

While the plot focus was more on Elena, there were some sweet and steamy moments between our couple. I love seeing Elena and Raphael as a pair, especially when they can drop their serious demeanor and engage in some playful flirting. Aodhan (a/k/a Sparkle) had a larger secondary role in this installment, and I continue to be drawn to his character. He is continuing to grow and come back to himself after the tragedy that occurred in his past. Through Elena and Illium, we learned more about Aodhan, and I just know that his story will be heartwrenching when we get it in full.

I love how Nalini has structured this series to be a mix between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. While I really like following a constant couple through a series... I can appreciate having books for some of our favorite characters that continue to advance the series arc in between books about our main couple. In addition, I have to commend the quality of Nalini's writing. Her language/vocabulary in this series is so evocative of these majestic beings, it really gives you a sense of the beautiful fantasical characters that she has created. The writing conveys a sense of power and wonder for me... and I want my own set of wings, dang it!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Berkley.

I don’t want to tell you to much of what happens. But in Archangel's Heart we get to see Raphael and Elena’s relationship grow even closer then it was before. We get to see the Cadre come together and actually work together. We get to learn more about Illium and Aodhan’s relationship. We are left with a few questions about Lijuan and what will happen next with the Cascade and the world.
Yet again, Ms. Singh blows me away with her ability to write a story that makes me cry, laugh, be shocked and fall in love with this world all over again. A story that makes me want to get to the end to see how this story will end while dreading finishing the book. Because that means I have to wait patiently for the next installment. This is one of my all time favorite series and I can not wait to see what is next for Raphael, Elena, that Cadre and the rest of the amazing cast Ms. Singh has created. Really hoping that BlueBell’s book is coming soon. And after Archangel's Heart I really need an Aodhan book .
As always I let the amazing talented Justine Eyre read this book to me. I am in awe of her voice and talent! I love that I am able to know who is speaking with each passage without have to be told. I hope that they never switch narrators for this series. Ms. Eyre is just flat out amazing. I can not wait for our next meeting in book 10 so she can read more to me!!

I absolutely adored this book. I noticed a bunch of early chatter when this book was announed, complaining that it was another Elena and Raphael book, but I for one couldn't be happier returning to my favorite couple as the focus. There's just something about the two of them that's so enthralling. Some may say continually returning to the same couple feels like old hat, but Nalini Singh has a magical way of keeping everything completely fresh. I enjoyed Elena and Raphael just as much as I did in the first book, if not even more now. Digging deeper into Elena's heritage really enriched her story for me. Add that to the Lijuan and the Luminata plots, and this was one jam packed read both in action and emotional aspects.

Speaking of emotion, I have to admit that Aodhan about stole the show for me. He's made so many leaps and bounds in his recovery and I'm thoroughly enjoying watching his journey. Things happen in ARCHANGEL'S HEART that make him realize some things, and bring out a glimpse of the man he used to be. I feel like this book was a serious turning point for him and it makes me more than excited to see where things lead next. In fact, this entire book felt like a turning point for the future to be honest. There's a lot of long running questions and resolutions that we finally get the outcome to. That being said, not a single resolution felt like they were drawing the story or series to a close, but only further enriching the magnificent depth of the world and characters. It truly was impressive.

I cannot recommend this book, or this series any higher. Nalini Singh's writing is simply magical, and any fan of the series should run out and buy this on immediately. A guaranteed solid block of epic entertainment, ARCHANGEL'S HEART is not to be missed.

Raphael and Elena are BACK!!! Yes!!! So happy to have finally another story about them as main characters. I really missed them and all the secrets and action that always accomplanies them. Before I started reading this story I thought it was maybe going to be about the crazy archangel from China but nope, not as much as it would be to be honest. It was really more about the Luminata and, man, those folks just suck! Just another reminder why I don't like the super religious people that much, there always seems something fishy about them. And I'm always right with my instincts. Yes, before you butcher me, there might be some good folks but I haven't seen them yet, so that's why I don't really like them. That's all! Anyway, back to the story. I have one huge minus for Nalini, what the heck happened to Sparkle and Bluebell!!! We didn't get the final answer!!! So therefore the next book HAS to be about them! Just saying. 'Cause otherwise, what's the point in all that drama and not get closure, huh?! O_o

Aside from that, there is one huuuuge plot twist about Elena's past or should I say her heritage. I definitely didn't see that one coming. I mean, after all this time to finally get a piece of her history back is amazing and I was so happy for her. And Raphael, where to start, he's just amazing and I want my own real Raphael. I only wished we'd got to see more of him and Elena alone and how their relationship is growing. But I guess Nalini can always write more books about these two *wink wink*

My only regret is that I've read it so fast and now I have to wait for the next one... But I can always read the Psy-Changeling stories...

This book starts out with the Cascade on pause and Elena and Raphael along with everyone else waiting for the other shoe to drop. And after the Luminata orders the Cadre to show up at their remote location it does. This was the first time that Elena had heard of the Laminata and she was interested to go because they were located near Morocco which was where her maman was from. She wanted to see if she find anything about her mother's history. So off they go.

When they arrive it isn't long before they figure out all is not as it seems with the Luminata and something is up with the head guy. He reacts to Elena strangely and Elena quickly figures out that there used to be woman there that looked remarkably like her. Between that and the way the town nearest the compound reacts when they visit she begins investigating the mystery. And I don't think anyone was prepared for what they found. I want reveal what that is just suffice to say it was life changing for Elena.

I loved this book and I really liked to learn about both Elena and Rafael's past in this story. I give this story 5 stars and was given it via Netgalley for consideration of a review. And I am so looking forward to reading Sparkle's book. Sound like it is going to be very emotional.

This was a great story and addition to the series. This book focused around Raphael and Elena and Cadre business with the Luminata. The Luminata is a cast of angels that have taken a vow of celibacy and seek a path to lumination. A task given to the Luminata in ancient times is to call the Cadre to a mandatory meeting when it becomes time to reallocate the territory the Archangels control. In this case, an Archangel has left their territory un-ruled and the vampires of the area are showing signs of loosing control and killing indiscriminately. Raphael and the rest of the Cadre get called to the Luminata compound to meet and discuss the issue and it just happens to be in the same area that Elena believes her grandmother came from so while she's there with Raphael, she intends to snoop around for any info she can find.

Things at the Luminata compound certainly aren't what they are supposed to be and the story leans heavily toward the suspense end of things during their time at the compound. While some parts I was able to guess, there were a few twists I certainly didn't expect once things started coming to light. Regardless of the lack of action, things stayed interesting enough that I wasn't bored at all and it kept me engaged from beginning to end (I only stopped to sleep). Also, I really loved how things turned out in the end and it left me looking forward to what will come next. I would definitely recommend this series. :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a great job

In Archangel's Heart, a monk-like sect of Angels called the Laminata calls the Cadre of Archangels together at their compound to decide on a plan of action for the China territory. No one has seen Lijuan since the battle in New York two years prior. So Raphael, Elena and Aodhan find themselves traveling to the compound in Morocco.

Almost from the moment they arrive, Elena gets the feeling that something is off about the Laminata, and the head of the sects odd behavior continues causes the uneasy feeling to grow. When the escorts to the Archangels make a trip to the neighboring village, things take a turn for the bizarre. While Elena is digging into the history of the Laminata and the bordering village, she's discovering there may be ties to her own family history. Raphael is deeply involved in the political maneuvering of the Cadre, with the fate of the world resting on their decisions, while Elena and Aodhan's every move are being monitored in the halls of the compound.

I really enjoyed the friendship of Elena and Aodhan in Archangel's Heart. Aodhan is starting to emerge from his self imposed shell, and we really start to learn his personality and sense of humor in this book.

Elena's emotions are on the surface throughout the book, but the support and love from Raphael carries her through. This book had some heart-breakingly sweet moments for me.

I literally just finished reading "Archangel's Heart" and the first thought that came to mind was, "When is the next book coming out?" It never fails, Nalini Singh always delivers a magnificent story no matter who within the Cadre is being featured.

And while Archangel's Heart isn't as action or suspense filled as most of the previous books, this didn't prevent me from enjoying the book overall. What it did was satisfy this deep-seated curiosity that I've always had concerning Elena's ancestry. Yep, Elena's bloodline goes further past Marguerite and Jeffrey.

If that isn't enough to catch your attention then perhaps the newer character will. I, for one, am curious to see how all these intriguing additions will affect the existing relationships among the members of the Cadre, especially in the case of Sparkle and our beloved Bluebell.

Again, the author spares no effort in describing every facet in detail up to the point where you feel that you are a part of the Archangel's world experiencing the beauty and splendor firsthand. This, this right here is certainly world building at its very finest.

If you are looking to delve into the genre of fantasy and paranormal romance this is definitely the first series I would recommend. Personally, I just can't get enough of Elena and her Archangel Raphael.

Archangel’s Heart starts us off two years after Archangel's Enigma ended. It’s full of secrets and mysteries. The storyline focusing on Elena and Raphael, but their is no shortage of previous and new characters. Be prepared for surprises by certain Archangels and watch our favorite hunter do what she does best!

WOW. The storyline takes a turn that I was not expecting. We get to meet a new sect, the Luminata. See all the Cadre and go deeper with them. Discover about Elena’s heritage and also get to see and dig a little deeper into Aodhan aka Sparkle one of Raphael’s Seven. Aodhan doesn't like to be touched, but in this installment we see changes and growth, which made my heart sing.

This was Urban Fantasy at it’s finest. So much AWESOMENESS happens. I was sucked in and couldn't put the book down. I went through a menagerie of emotions and had tears at the end. That ending, just WOW. I’m not sure what is next, but I’m excited to see what will happen.

This is one of the most loving looks into Raphael and Elena’s relationship the series has had in a while. Don’t get me wrong; the mystery, ongoing intrigue, and “political maneuvering” is still strong in the world of Archangels, but the foundation of these two is stronger, sexier, and steadier than it ever has been. It’s a mature coupling that continues to grow and thrive among the crazy narcissistic group that makes up the Cadre.

Having been called to the Luminate compound, Elan will uncover an unthinkable reality hidden away by sheer arrogance. No one would suspect that they would dare to be undermined, but alas, the phrase “pride goeth before fall” comes to mind. I was shocked and saddened to see what something that’s supposed to be an enlightened and spiritual place is capable of. It’s a very real read in the fantasy world that, in all honesty, could be ripped from a modern times headline.

Having said that, it is also a fantastic example of never giving up hope and finding peace. Honestly, it’s been one of my favorite reads of the series.

I'd like to start off by saying they Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors.
I LOVE the Guild Hunter Series and have re-read it many times.
I liked this book, but it wasn't one of my favorites.
What I did like about the story was the little snippets of information we were given about Aodhan and his relationship with Illium.
BUT, what really annoyed about this story was how many times we (the reader) were 'reminded' about how much Elena loves and/or would die with and/or for Raphael.
I would have rather read about them demonstrating how much they loved each other than being told about it (because their past sex scenes were off the charts swoon worthy).
The plot and the characters were interesting.
This was a good addition to the Guild Hunter series, but unfortunately, it wasn't one of my favorite stories.

I absolutely loved this new release in one of my favorite series! I picked it up and immediately got pulled into Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter world. ARCHANGEL'S HEART held me completely enthralled with it's gripping love story. I loved Raphael and Elena together. More was revealed in the series storyline and the back stories of the characters. Raphael was sigh-worthy and he's now one of my new favorite Archangels. I loved every minute of this book and can't wait to get my hands on the next release. Each book in the Guild Hunter series can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order to fully enjoy the series storyline. I highly recommend this series for readers looking for an unique and exciting paranormal romance series.

I love love love this series!! Even though there wasn’t a lot of action in this book, it kept me hooked from the beginning. I loved the focus on Aodhan! He’s finally becoming strong and himself again. I can’t wait for his book. I also loved getting more background on Elena’s family and more history about her mother. This book really opened up the world more and made me interested in more characters. The thing I love about Nalini Singh’s books is that she does a subtle recap from precious books that I really appreciate. Overall great addition. Can’t wait to start Vipers book!

Another outstanding read from Nalini Singh. ARCHANGEL'S HEART is the ninth Guild Hunter series novel, and it's incredible how well Singh continues this amazing storyline. The series is best read in order, starting with ANGEL'S BLOOD. The mythos Singh has created surrounding her angels, vampires, and humans deepens as the Cadre of Ten are summoned by the mysterious Luminata, an ancient order of angels, to discuss what to do with Lijuan's territory.

But there's so much going on under the surface. Elena's past is slowly revealed. We see more of Aodhan and his interactions with Elena and Raphael. And Raphael and Elena's relationship continues to evolve, the characters growing in leaps and bounds. Thrilling, romantic, pulse-pounding, this book has it all. I can honestly say I'm continually blown away with Singh's storytelling, and this book is no different.

A MUST BUY for paranormal romance or urban fantasy lovers. And a definite read for those following the Guild Hunter series--one of the absolute best fiction series out today.

An archangel goes missing and her lands are falling into chaos. The cadre have been called together by the Luminata a mysterious group of angels who have "retired" to seek luminesence.

In the luminata compound all is not as it seems, sinister things are afoot. What secrets are they keeping, why are the folks of the nearest town so scared of the luminata?

Elena has accompanied Raphael to the meet at the luminata compound and hopes that the library will shine some light on her roots.

I love Nalini Singh's books and once again thoroughly enjoyed this installment. Though it did mention Lijuan's disappearance and the coming cascade the majority of the book centered on the Luminata and Elena. I would say that this book is a filler for previous books and books to come in the future. It is about love and how love can save you even in the face of the most desperate of situations.

I can read books about Raphael and Elena all day, everyday, till death do us part. This book felt a little off at first just because it wasn't set in New York for the majority so Bluebell and all the Seven aren't constant like they normally are. That being said..... I still loved this book! I knew something major was going to happen and it did! Now, I just can't wait for the next one. I want it, like tomorrow! But more importantly I want to know WHO is going to be the next book!! Will the beloved Bluebell FINALLY get his own book? YES please! I can't wait.

I just realized that I've never reviewed any of these books properly because I really don't know how but ANYWAY,

in Archangel's Heart:

- more of Raphael and Elena being a power couple

- tension (!!!) between Aodhan and Illium and not the kind of tension I like

- the Cadre + 2 Ancients assemble

- there's apparently a group of pious angels too????

- pious angels are creepy

- stuff uncovered

- stuff decided

- stuff stuff stuff

That is all.

I loved this book! I am a huge fan of Nalini Singh and Raph and Ellie are my favorite. I started this series on a whim so long ago but quickly fell in love with the action, adventure and roller coaster love story of Raphael and Elena. Raphael and Elena have come so far together and in this story we finally get to learn more of Elena's background. As a special treat we also see a glimpse into the startlingly beautiful but enigmatic Aodhan as well. Elena and her archangel have been called to Morocco. The homeland of her maternal grandmother. The secrets and surprises she turns up will have you gasping, wide eyed, and cheering on her and Raphael from the sidelines. I am already dying for the next in the series!

I must admit I was hoping for a story about Illium or Aodhan...or at least to have something more about them. They are in the story (Aodhan has an important part here) but not enough for me ;). Anyway, this was another great Guild Hunter book. There is finally closure about Elena's past, since her mother was an orphan and she doesn't know the origin of that branch of her family, and there is an evolution also on regard of what happened to Lijuan after the NY battle. I would like for Lijuan to be definitively dead, you know...she's become a bit tiring with all her returns but we'll see, no?
We can now go from here and see what the future and the Cascade will bring on our favorite angel/archangel.

This is the first book I've ever read of Nalini Singh and I'm impressed.
Even if I haven't read (yet) the first 8 books I was enthralled from the first page because Achangel's Heart is a novel full of love, friendship, loyalty and second chance.
Nalini Singh takes care of every single characters, showing us their emotions, their weakness but also their unbreakable bonds.
In a world where sci-fi and urban fantasy often seem to me close to erotica, Nalini Singh is able to touch your heart on the tips of the wings.
But also the setting plays a great role. Lumia is the place where Luminata live and it's so creepy, so full of mistery and hidden truths, that reminds me the monastery of The name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.
In my opinion this is on of the best urban fantasy I've ever read in the last months.

I love this series. I ran into accidentally when I had a rare lull in reading, (snort, yea whats that). I read the first one and was intrigued, I enjoyed it. So I grabbed the second one, and after I read that I was hooked. Devoured them all. You get taken to another world, you see a strong, desirable women, with our reigning alpha Archangel, and they grow. You watch this relationship change, whether storms, interconnect with others, and are intrigued with the secondary characters, waiting for them to step up. I highly recommend this series for hours of enjoyable read.

I adore the Guild Hunter Series and all things Nalini Singh. This book was no exception. After i fot over my initial disappointment that this was not Illium's story i got swept away with the angels as always. I loved revisiting Raphael and Elena. My favourite part of the story though would have been witnessing the thawing of Aodhan and getting some of sparkles back story. I was expecting him to come face to face with one of his tormentors at some point, but the fact that it didn't happen didn't effect my love for the story.
I can only hope that Nalini is braver than other authors i know and actually gives Bluebell and Sparkle their own book, all the signs point to them joining and they deserve their own story. But will it involve a female third or just be the two of them? Interested to find out. I recently read series that featured 2 male side characters that were clearly destined to end up together but they never got their own story and when i asked the author about it she said that she felt it would be asking too much of her readers to accept an m/m story in the series. Personally i think that is rubbish. Be brave Ms Singh, give us their story in their own book.
I am really beginning to like Caliane which surprises me. The sect was an interesing twist and i really enjoyed its conclusion after the discovery of what lied beneath the gallery.
Another compelling tale from one of my favourite auto buy authors.

I love this series by Nalini Singh! The characters are so interesting. This book was fun because we get to see more of Elena interacting with her archangel, Raphael, learn more about Aodhan and watch them ferret out bad guys who are supposed to be contemplative like monks but instead take advantage of the local villagers. we also find out more about Elena's past, overcome some bad guys and we can also see that more intrigue is coming. How could it not with all the different archangels and their temperments! I loved reading this book and highly recommend it!

I love these characters and was glad to see more of them. In this book you see a more developed, settled relationship between Raphael and Elena. Both are secure in their love for each other and no longer uncertain or jealous of others. They have developed a give and take to their relationship that will carry them through the story arc to come. While there isn't much focus on other characters left behind in the Refuge or New York we get an in-depth view of Raphael and Elena (mostly outside the bedroom) and some character development for Aodhan.

I fell in love with these characters from the kiss in book one and I am finally happy to see Elena find family who will love her unconditionally. The archangel of death is still to be vanquished I can't wait for that, Aodhan is finally coming back to life. This book is filled with danger secrets, power, love and hope and vengeance so who is up for the adventures of the Guild Hunter and her Archangel read on

Good read, however; it was rather anti-climatic. There was a lot of rehashing of situations/people as though the author understood that it was a long time between books, so the rehashing was important and necessary, which dragged the story out and paved the way for the next book. This is a very talented writer and I do not think that she can write a book that I would not enjoy; however, this book was too drawn out and it was just okay.

I love this series. I love when the books are mainly Elena and her Archangel. It’s ok to sometimes be someone else but I hate when it’s 2 books in a row. Anyways, so many good things about this book. I love learning about Elena’s family. I like that Caline is really giving her daughter in law a chance. I really just can’t get enough of these books!!

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. Excellent worldbuilding, character development, storyline. Elena and Raphael travel to Morocco to meet with the other Archangels to take care of the missing Lijuans territory that is disintegrating without her governance. Elena searches for information about her family amongst the evil that engulfs the enclave Lumina. Mystery and revelations surround the millennia old Luminnata.

OMG, I loved this book!! I have to admit that Raphael and Elena are probably my favorite angels in the series. Elena has her Archangel's heart and he will do anything to help her get to the bottom of what's going on with the Luminata and what happened to her Grandmother.

Now, I'm a little worried about the Cascade and really worried about LiJuan!!

Great book as always from one of my most favorite authors!!

By far not my favorite book in this series, I thought it tended to go into the weeds a bit...still, I can see how it was necessary for the story line and oh, how I love this storyline, the world building, the characters. It is all just the cat's meow (and I love all the gratuitous bloodshed and violence as well...oh, and the sex, which is hot and never gratuitous).

I'm looking forward to the next in series.

I've always loved Elena and Raphael and it was so good reading how they have been developing. I appreciated how the author took the time to craft a very compelling back story for Elena's and her family. This was a good installment that only made me more invested in the characters and the series. I enjoyed every page, and I am so eager for more in the series.

A nice story about Raphael and Elena, that stops the continuity of the whole plot a little - they are still trying to understand wehter Lijuan is alive or not - but it's ok because I longed to know more about my favorite hunter's past.

This was a wonderful installment to the series. The Cadre has been summoned by Luminata to examine issue with archangel Lijuan. The sect is positioned in Morocco - Elena hopes to investigate her maternal roots while there as Raphael's Consort. AND THEN -- Nalinia Singh is a fantastic storyteller - and I ADORE this series!!!

This was by far the best read of the series! So many new things happening in this series and new people. I truly with the next one was already out. I love Elena and Raphael as well as getting to see and learn more about Aodhan. The ending was amazing so happy the way it turned out!

Another jewel in the Guild Hunter series. This is the story of a group of angels called the Luminata who have many dark secrets and who covet power. Raphael and Elena along with the Cadre journey to Morocco in this fast paced book.

I love these books. I always love to get a new one and I'm a little sad when I finish! As always, Raphael and Elena are kind of the "it couple"--their chemistry is fantastic. And the story and action is great--definitely a page turner. I had to wait until Friday to start it because I knew I'd be up all night.

I am a big fan of Nalini Singh and boy did she deliver. This book had everything. Star-crossed lovers, a mysterious sect of angels with a rotten core, more info about the Casacade and plenty of sigh-worthy moments between Elena and Raphael. This was another great addition to the Guild Hunter series.

OMG! I was estactic about the Guild Hunter series returning to Raphael and Elena. Those two are my favorite, obviously. So reading a book about Elena's past was awesome. Seriously awesome because Raphael is scary yet adorable too. I want more!

You know when you walk into a movie 40 minutes after it started, and you really enjoyed it but it eats at you what did you miss? That’s exactly how I’m feeling right now. *Sigh* I keep jumping into series by Nalini Singh because what I have read of hers is outstanding, BUT, no matter how great they are, I’m still finding myself lost. That is how I am feeling with Archangel's Heart.

Let me begin by saying I enjoyed this book. Mostly. Elena and Raphael are awesome. I loved the dynamics between them. Then there is the whole angel concept that I haven't encountered before. Angels having territories, having consorts, baby angels - really the whole angel aspect was new and refreshing to me. Oh my gosh, I fell in love with the characters, especially the other angels in the Cadre, I need more of them! Throw in the Luminata, the missing Archangel, Elena on a mission to find out more about her mother's side of the family, and everything in between and you have one book that I lost sleep over because I couldn't put it down.

Now for the mostly which I have already mentioned before. I'm jumping in at book #9 in the Guild Hunter series which means I have no background knowledge to go on. Sometimes an author will give a bit of a background history at the beginning so newbies to the series like me idea of what to expect. Sadly, that is not the case. I was able to keep up for the most part but peeking at other reviews, on past and present books in the series, I see I missed out on quite a bit. My advice to any reader looking to read Archangel's Heart really should start the series from the beginning.

I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine.

Loved the book! Although I felt it was shorter than usual or maybe because I have been waiting for it for so long and I read through it in a matter of two days lol I wish she would come up with another book. I am obsessed with this series. No one will be disappointed.
