I like both these authors, having discovered them less than a year ago. Just finished reading this novel and it was gripping and fascinating. Even tho it was fictional, it was interesting to read that there is a part of Manhattan Island that is almost uninhabited and has been for centuries, etc. The fictional accounts of the zombiis, etc., were ALMOST on a par with stephen king and dean koontz in their early days --- not quite as good, but it kept my interest.

I would give this book, and most of his other collaborations --- a solid 4 stars...

CEMETERY DANCE is the latest edge-of-your-seat thriller from the fertile (deranged?) minds of authors Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The story reunites some favorite characters from previous outings: Bill Smithback, Nora Kelly, Vincent D'Agosta, Wren, and Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast.
This time Agent Pendergast is up to his silver eyes in animal sacrifices, Voodoo, Obeah, gris-gris, secret societies, and zombies.
The cynical Lieutenant D'Agosta, a down to earth homicide detective, relies on proven police procedurals to solve the murders he is investigating, while Pendergast's probing takes them down twisted paths of the arcane and macabre dark arts.Together the two make for an unlikely but satisfying team as they work to ferret out who is responsible for the present day zombies creating havoc in New York City. They will need to hurry if they hope to save the life of Nora Kelly.
Preston and Child have created another rousing tale that current fans and new readers will thoroughly enjoy.

Another great mystery for the Pendergast series. I hated the turn of events with Smithback and Nora, and was looking for a way it could change in the end. I had a pretty good idea of one miss direction, but it did not come clear I was right until the end. A good read for any one including Preston/Child fans.

These are terrific page turners, but they are beginning to strain even the small degree of plausibility required for these horror/fantasy stories. The ability of zombi-like, bloody, slimed characters to blend in with the general pubic until they commit their mayhem was laughable. I mean, really, put an extra week of writing in to the book! After a while, you want to look back and say, "Wasn't this scene in a prior book? Or earlier in this book?"

Not as intriguing or educational as others in the series. Further, it provides a need for too much explanation at the end which means there was not enough intrigue to figure it out as one went along.

I loved Douglas Preston's book "Tyranosaurus Canyon" and enjoyed the books set in the NY Museums. Unfortunately, this book is just to similar to his Museum stories and too gory and labored. He is much too good a writer to be limiting himself with these similar plots, both my wife and I have enjoyed many of his other books, we were deeply disappointed with this book.

As with all of the Preston/Child novels, this one is fast paced and hard to put down. Having several good twists to the story, it is once again a fast and very entertaining read. Thanks to the seller for prompt shipping and the book was new as advertised.

Yet another great book by Preston and Child. I got hooked on one of the books in the middle of this series and have simply devoured all the others. This one is just as exciting. Since I live in NY, it's so easy to visualize all the sites and almost hear the sounds described in the book. I hope another one comes out soon.

Hallelujah!!! Finally a really good book. It seems like all the well known authors these days are cranking them out quickly and the product is suffering miserably. No so the case with Preston and Child. As always they entertain and make you lick your chops for the next installment. Awesome works guys! Keep it up!

I was introduced to this series by my mother, who recommended it based on my love of all things zombie. This is the first book I have read by these authors.

While this book certainly isn't a typical zombie book, it was very interesting and very well written. I did not like a few of the plot twists as I felt they were there simply to make a ruckus with the characters, but overall it was a very good book.

My only recommendation is to make sure to have a dictionary nearby. I had to look up a word almost every chapter, and I don't consider myself to have an incredibly small vocabulary. If nothing else, I learned a lot!

Some of the character development, and how the author tried to tie all of the characters together left a bad taste in my mouth. However, the book was still an enjoyable and fast read (other than the dictionary pauses, haha.)

Standard fare; no great surprises but no great disappointments either. The characters are not very well developed. I am thinking that the writer assumes that you have read other Pendergast books and are already acquainted with the characters....some would call the characters one dimensional some would call them familiar. Personally, I liked the book, it moved at a decent pace and the plot was interesting to me. The book may not be that interesting to those who are unfamiliar with the series but it should satisfy Pendergast readers.

I usually enjoy the Pendergast novels, but this one was a far cry from the others. It seems that in each novel the sidekick cop keeps getting more child like. Unable to control his emotions to the point that in the next book I expect his bladder to fail. What happened to the mystery and good story telling. The hero to has become too human and fails to live up to the character that was developed in the earlier novels. I have already purchased the next, but unless things change it will be the last.

Enjoyed this #9 book of the Agent Pendergast Series very much. Preston & Child always keep me entertained and this book was exciting and the characters vivid. If you have never read the adventures in the Pendergast series you need to try them. A good place to start is Still Life with Crows or even this book but any will catch the attention of any reader that likes a good plot, interesting & well developed characters, and plenty of mystery.
Very good read. Recommended

Agent Pendergast continues to be one of the most interesting characters in fiction. And Preston and Child have woven another interesting tale. While I will truly miss the presence of Bill Smithback, I respect their fearlessness in driving the overall story arc forward. The Ville will remain one of the creepiest locations in their work and I look forward to the next installment. All in all, they've kept things moving forward nicely.

Preston and Child do not disappoint in this entry into the Agent Pendergast series.
Quick moving story line and additional development of the Pendergast character keeps you up reading way past bedtime. Looking forward to more about Pendergast from these two excellent authors.
