This was recommended to me by the store because I read similar books. It is just awful. The characters are cartoon-like, obviously evil or obviously good, with no subtlety, and their behavior is completely unrealistic. But what bothered me the most was that Rollins got the science completely wrong. One of the characters is a young female computer scientist who has already won the Nobel Prize in Computer Science - aarggh! First of all, there is no Nobel awarded in computer science, as anyone could learn in about 30 seconds on Google. Second, no one wins the Nobel prize when they're young, because the Nobel committee usually waits decades to measure the impact of the work. But then this same character uses a positive pressure clean room - what you'd use to work with a biological agent like a nasty virus - to do her programming! How ridiculous. I got about 1/3 through and then I just couldn't bear it any longer.

This book has it all - natural disasters, war, intense personal conflict, love, science, even a bit of science fiction. The characters are very well developed to the point that the reader loathes the antagonist and cheers the protagonist. I highly recommend this book!

Classic James Rollins book. A real page turner that you just can't put down. I just recently started to read his stand alone books and I was thrilled to see characters from this book that overlapped in his sigma series.
