Great story line with very developed characters. The main character knows how the game is played and anticipates the next move. I started out on the second book and so went back and read the first, truthfully don't know whether I would have continued on if I had only read the first book. But the second story had great twists and turns. Enjoyable read

Same old stuff. I'm getting tired of everyone trying to write a Lee Child Jack Reacher novel. These authors all write about the Middle East, Radical Muslim Terrorists and super government agents from some dark unidentified CIA funded program. Seems like if you read one, you have read them all. Same typos and wrong names, i.e. "clips" instead of "magazines" and other mistakes, including factual mistakes. I need a break from these novels.
Unallocated Space: A Thriller (Sam Flatt Book 1) :: Day of Reckoning (Shadow Warriors Book 3) :: Protect and Defend :: A Thriller (The Scot Harvath Series Book 18) :: Pursuit of Honor

I guess it's politically correct to make excuses for, try to understand, and try not to offend terrorists, but I'm not politically correct. Too much sympathy for the world's greatest evil for me. Made it 33% and gave up.

FIRST STRIKE. Is the beginning of another great series by Jack Patterson. Following his Cal Murphy series, this is another winner.
We meet Brady Hawk who is the chief reconnaissance officer for senator Blunt, on a black ops mission. Alex is his handler, and maybe more if given time to be together. She. had been with the CIA, but fired, Her mother was a dual spy, and father killed her. A lot of issues for Alex to deal with, probably as series goes along. We have Rasul Moradi, a small time arms dealer that takes Brady as a hostage. While the leader of AlHasik is Karif Fazil whose had a falling out with Rasul. Interesting of the theatrical drama with him, having gotten a minor in theatre.
We have Gordan Jefferson / or Joel Cochran identification says FBI, who warns Alex. Then he disappears, did he even exists.
We meet a lot of characters, that we hopefully, get to know more as series continues, rather as friend or enemy. Even to Brady, is his real father connected to CIA,secrets, will his mother tell. .Looking forward to DEEP COVER the second book in this series.
Love mysteries, and spy novels, that are easy to enjoy and understand another black ops mission. Book to enjoy for all.
Given book by author, for my honest opinion, of which I have given.

First Strike delivers excitement, intrigue and action from the first page to the last. The story line is relevant and the characters draw the reader in quickly. The hero is Brady Hawk, a black ops agent reminiscent of Jason Bourne with a dash of James Bond and Bruce Willis added to the mix. His handler, the lovely Alex, seems to have more than just Hawk's physical safety in mind. Factor in the shadowy Senator Blunt, the man who runs the show and Jack Patterson has provided all the ingredients for for a great series. The teaser for the second book has me eagerly waiting for its release.
While I received an ARC of this book from the author, the review is voluntary and the opinions entirely my own.

I received this as an ARC and was really anticipating the read since I love Patterson's Cal Murphy series. This one is gonna be great! The lead character Brady Hawk (love the name by the way), is a black ops assassin who is very good at his job. The irony being his father is a huge weapons manufacturer. The plot is tight and full of action. If you love this genre, then like me, you will be thrilled to have a new lead character and series to look forward to. Trying to figure out whether Brady is fighting the good fight for all the right reasons or being manipulated keeps you guessing and his handler Alex promises some interesting twists down the road. Highly recommend.

R.J. Jack Patterson has joined other elite authors of the covert operative genre - which is my favorite.
Brady Hawk is a covert operative (aka assassin) of a secret organization headed by Texas U.S. Senator Blunt. Hawk's handler is Alex Duncan. Blunt reports to the president.
In this first of the Brady Hawk series. Hawk has been assigned to assassinate Nasim Ghazi, a well-known bomb-maker for the jihadist group, Al Hasib. He has a large number of successful crimes to his history so his loss would prevent any future crimes from happening.
However, interspersed in the story are mysterious assassins, rogue U.S. senators, spies, as well as friends appearing out of nowhere helping Hawk and Alex. And all of this occurs in either Washington, D.C. and Afghanistan.
What more could anyone ask? Read and find out if Hawk completes his assignment.

Simplistic story about an ex-seal working for a crooked Senator. Author obviously has no military training. Scenarios he writes are improbable at best. Author failed to do research on logistics and weaponry and has no clue on how to write real life scenarios. HIs interactions between people are poorly thought out and unlikely. When he writes his protagonist (good guy) into a corner, he dismisses the problem as if it doesn't exist. Hawk gets shot in the bicep and that is immediately forgotten, never to be mentioned again. Poor editing does'nt help the story. I can see some possibilities in this author and if he takes the lazy out of his writing and story preparation he could get better.

Excellent dialogue, an intriguingly complex set of plot lines, and a fast moving story yield a great read. Hawk is a hero. He's a government fixer, a Black Ops hitman employed for the sole purpose of eliminating terrorist threats. The suspense builds quickly as Hawk moves from one seemingly impossible situation to another. He's an escape artist utilizing every resource available to him including his goddess of a handler. This is a story based on a secret organization with virtually no oversight and no safeguards. Its on-the-edge-of-a razor-blade action will have you clamoring for more as questions remain to be answered as the story continues. Stay tuned for book 2.

Brady Hawk, a new protaganist in a new series, captures the reader's attention and respect (at least he did mine). Hawk's strength and personality shines through. The gripping story was exciting and I devoured the book. The American Government aims to stop terrorism but chooses to do so outside U.S. laws. It was hard to tell whether Senator Blunt, who heads this black ops program, is a good or bad guy. Even Alex Duncan, Hawk's one ally, is not sure. These unkowns make the book a page-turner. I cannot wait for the next installment.

First I must thank the author for offering this book on a freebie site, because I probably would not have gotten to read this good story. I'm not super fond of war stories, especially set in the arena of today's terrorism, however Patterson sold me on Brady Hawk. The realism is reminiscent of Homeland, the series, andBrady was given a human side to his assassin persona which made for more interesting reading. I am a big fan of suspense and the author filled that bill for me. Without giving the story, the pace and suspense of this book were exciting and I will most likely follow Hawk in subsequent books of the series

Brady Hawk is an undercover spy/assasin trying to make the world a better place by eliminating terrorist targets. The in-fighting in Washington makes his job that much more dangerous. The author is a former journalist who puts his experiences in his previous occupation to good use in this the first book in the Brady Hawk series.

I received a copy of First Strike through an author giveaway. While not all free things in life are worthwhile, First Strike kept me engaged from the first to last page, I have always enjoyed books with lots of action and intrigue, and I can see that I will be following Brady Hawk on his further adventures in the following books in this series.
If you are looking for some adrenalin packed action, don’t think twice, just grab a copy and start reading, you won’t be sorry.

I just finished reading First Strike. This was a good read, Brady Hawk is human, he makes mistakes and recovers. I’m glad he’s not super human. I have several of Lee Childs Jack Reacher series, but Reacher is way to cocky and superman type for me. I want to read about a real person. I’m also glad there is little to no sex in your books. I have my wife for sex.

This was so much fun ! Thoroughly enjoyed this covert ops story with governmental intrigue mixed in. Hawk takes on the world with help from Alex. Great cast of characters, non stop action and an awesome story makes this a hard one to put down.

First Strike is a very well crafted book. I loved the book, and really felt for Brady Hawk. Finally a hero who is not only fully trained but lives by his wits and ideals. A thoroughly enjoyable book, which i just had to read in one go.

I'm baffled with this "award winning author", with sooo...many books publised.
Well, Patterson or not, the "story" could be good, BUT, it's like been playing: "Black Ops...THE GAME" (Registered Mark). Totally incredible.
If I really was so naive to not Research I would fall for all the...rubbish this author wrote. This is pure: "Sci-Fi" with a title to match.
Lost the editor errors are pricey.
This Brady Hawk and his "Handler" Alex are the ultimate future of war, not realistic, not convinced and at every peril there's even a "kid (sarcasm), to save the "hero".
I was very dissapointed. Does this author read, saw TV or talk to a "REAL SEAL", because his paper hero will be out of the camp before "Hell Week", even begin.
I'm very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement?
How another reader believe in my review? If I didn't read the book, I don't Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn't good, Review.
With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own.
