I enjoyed the book once the story got beyond Johnny's immaturity. Historically, it was mostly accurate. I did feel that John Adams wasn't adequately portrayed, but then the book wasn't about him. The relationship between Rab and Johnny was interesting was treated in depth. The girls, Cilla and her little sister lacked an adequate portrayal. It was good as far as it went but I would have liked to see more development of them. The shallowness of the Lyte family was apparent as was Mr. Lyte's greed. Overall, it's a good book. It was a summer reading assignment in my daughter-in-law's 8th-grade English class, and I read it and helped her develop a lengthy test for those who read it. It's certainly well-chosen for that educational level.

Forbes did a fantastic job with this story. Although it is rated as fiction because the story is made up, she did a great job giving true facts of history that would help younger children gain an interest in history. This is a must read for all ages. I believe it should be required reading for about 3rd or 4th graders.

Intesting book for young readers. I use this book along with the Guide in my reading class. At the end of the book, we watch the Disney movie from 1957 of Johnny Tremain. My students always like the book better as it has more detail and information.

This is a very interesting book set at the beginning of the American Revolution. It's told from the viewpoint of an apprentice silversmith who lives in Boston. It's a coming of age story that the whole family can enjoy. Good character development and realistic scenes make for a great read.

I read "Johnny Tremain" as a child and the result was my 24 years as a history teacher. I just re-read it before passing it along to a young reader who is studying the American Revolution in school. The story is engaging, the characters interesting and real. If you have a child who is learning about the American Revolution for the first time I highly recommend it!
