Good read. Fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable. My only negative response to an otherwise good story would be the response to the behavior of the sons actions. To put the lives of everyone at risk and not have the family be more outraged is not reasonable.

I thought this book was written very well. Honestly you tend to find a lot of missing words in digital books but only a couple times did I experience that with this one. It is enjoyable and a new concept for apocalyptic books.

I really liked that this story started in the near future before blasting into space. As always Jasper tells a great story, and he always leaves room for hope. I also like that he does not need to add a lot of really gruesome violence and raw sex just for the shock value. This story starts on Earth and explores some of the dangers we are facing now. The way people react is so much like it would be in real life and unfortunately it is not pretty. But there is hope that maybe we can start to get along with each other and work together to save our people and our world. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book and can't wait to see where Jasper takes us from here!

This was a pretty entertaining book overall. It had some predictable stuff, like the would-be killer who sits next to our protagonist on the airplane and manages to somehow steal his address. That seemed just a bit too cliche. Plus the son Alex's overwhelming interest in teenage girls to the detriment of their and everyone's survival likewise seemed very unrealistic (but maybe necessary as the book is aimed at young adults). But other than that, the twists and turns in the aliens stories were quite well done and kept you interested and entertained. And the survivalist plot was likewise well done for the most part. It certainly makes you want to see what happens in Book 2. I also liked that one of the Screechers became an important ally in the plot and helped fill in the reasons for their attack of/on earth and their prehistory. Showed some good imagination on the author's part.

Incredible story of the will to survive. Of course, it sets up a trilogy, at minimum. Logan Willis loses his job, and almost loses his marriage on the same day. Then, news of the a dying Earth reaches him, sending him back into his family’s embrace. His son Alex, endangers the family multiple times with his refusal to accept the coming changes.

Each member of the family is believably drawn in their character. Kindergartener Rachel is the typical five year old. Logan’s wife Kate feels like your neighbor down the street. The only misstep was Kate chose not to return to work after Rachel was in school full time. Maybe it’s cultural. As a stay at home mom, I went back to work after my youngest child was in school. Having Kate volunteer for a good cause would have made her less vapid.

Overall, it was a good story.

This book is different than his others, but just as good. Jasper Scott has written an apocalyptic sci-fi book and nailed the genre. From the first page you are enveloped in the story. A rogue star is discovered and will cause Earth to change orbit, and there is also an alien race circling the star. The story tells about a family trying to survive the climatic effects and the alien invasion. I don't want to ruin the story, so read the book and find out what happens! I think you will enjoy the book as much as I did.

A brown dwarf has been heading for our Solar System and will pass near Earth, now it is drawing near. Signals from the dwarf indicate intelligence is approaching. How do you escape the natural disaster, and the man-caused disaster of panic and military responses? And what is the intelligence that is on its way? A billionaire has a plan to safeguard some of the human race, but who can he save? And when things go awry, can he even save himself? A good read with interesting and likeable, believable characters. The situation is not completely novel, but the adventures are fun and the potential resolutions will keep you interested. The fast-paced novel will make you wish you could read it all at one go.

This book is wonderful with excellent character development, very plausible storyline and scientific technology to boot. The storyline of a apocalyptic event in the not so distant future and the way that humanity reacts is very believable. The storyline is different from other post apocalyptic and that’s what makes it so interesting and exciting. The strong character development is another strength, even though some are more likable than others; you really get invested in what happens or could happen to them. I will be holding my breath until October for Book Two as I have to know what happens in Haven, Alex and yes, OneZero!!!

This is an interesting take on apocalypse and alien encounters. I found it particularly interesting that the protagonist and his family were pretty much 'normal' people. He wasn't some ex-special forces super hero and the hideout wasn't super plush, prepared for everything building. And, the guy loses his 'advantages' in almost every category throughout the story, yet he continues to plow forward. So, kudos on a take that real people can relate to.

The story moves forward at a good pace with abundant surprises to keep your interest. The writing is clear and descriptive. The editing was professional quality, with no obvious typos, hanging threads or discontinuities. The action has set the reader up to be interested in what will happen next to resolve the issues raised near the end of book 1.

I am definitely looking forward to book 2.

Well, Jasper pulls the timeline in so close in this frightening future, it feels like it could happen to us. The story begins with a family that feels so real, it could be our own. I couldn't help thinking that this rogue star could be hurtling towards us right now! How would I get my family out of harm's way if this were to become our reality? Get ready for a fast moving wild ride with shocking surprises each time you turn the page. Jasper's imagination creates a disaster so real that you'll want to prepare for this possibility! Pack only what you need!

For science fiction enthusiasts that like space adventure, post apocalyptic fiction, and ice age survival stories, this book has all three. The scenario is of course fictional, but the science behind it is fairly solid and believable. The threat of an ice age type future should resonate with all of us seeing how our world today is dealing with the greenhouse effect. Adding the invasion of aliens kept up the desperation of the two families trying to flee their invaders. But wait! There is a twist. Could there be invaders sympathetic to humans? Can’t wait for the second installment to be published. Only took me a few days to read the first. Very well written. Moves quickly and keeps your attention. Good job.

[SOME MILD SPOILERS in square brackets] Great book! Action packed from the start. I didn't want to put it down. The author explores an interesting twist on an apocalyptic, [alien invasion] through the eyes of a single family caught up in the thick of the action. I'm no astronomer so I can't say anything for the science but from a scientist in a different field it's believable and not beyond the realms of belief - which is what I want in an apocalyptic potential future. There's plenty of plot twists that I didn't see coming and kept me on my toes. Characters were developed well enough for me although I can see some of my more detail oriented friends wanting a bit more character depth and development. My only real complaint is that it ended too early. I felt like it finished halfway through the story with the main plot point having only just arrived. I gave it 5 stars since I felt 4 stars was harsh - wish I could do 4.5 stars. I guess that's what the sequel is for. Fortunately it looks like I have to only wait a month. Overall a good dystopian sci-fi thriller.

Excellent fast paced thriller. It felt like a good mix of post-apocalyptic survival mixed with alien invasion. Very few books have me hooked so hard. This book made my last 3 lunch breaks much longer than intended. This is one of those situations where having the kindle app on your phone is a big distraction too! I can't wait for the sequel.

Also, while just a small part of the story, the author's use of ham radio terminology was spot on. As a ham radio guy its always nice to see somebody take the time to research things and use terms correctly.

The author weaves a great tale blending science and fiction in a believable manner. An exciting story that will definitely leave you wanting more (but isn't that the whole idea). A cosmic event brings visitors to Earth who have much in common with humans. The first book tells of the coming of the visitors, their intentions and the beginning of the cosmic apocalypse. Give me more.

I recommend this book. I thought this story was a really exciting and unique read! I like science fiction, and read it quite often. It's rare to find an original idea out there, but this story was really interesting. It was fast paced and kept you guessing until the end. I found myself wanting to know more about the characters. I can't wait for the next story!

I really enjoyed the originality of this book.I have never read anything quite like it before and I was really entertained! I lost a lot of sleep because I usually read for a couple of hours before I go to sleep at night but I couldn't make myself put it down till one in the morning!!i i can't wait to start the next in the series!

Absolutely loved this book. Very fast paced, literally a page turner. I loved the way each character had their own unique ways of dealing with the impending drastic changes to their environment, from disbelief to belief to denial to the final realization that they had to learn to adapt quickly to changes they weren't even prepared for. I think Logan was my favorite character, though he wanted to give into impulsive reactions he became more pragmatic with each new challenge he faced, especially with protecting OneZero. I am so looking forward to the next book, this one really left me hanging with so many questions that need answers!

Fast paced, well developed characters, splendid action, plots turns....oh wow! J. Scott has a wonderful story telling style. I like all the characters but two. I'm angry at them! I won't say who, though. No spoilers! That is good writing: to evoke emotional responses in readers. I'm very excited to read the sequel.

Rogue Star is great story about people who are determined to survive despite the odds. An ice age is coming, floods will soon arrive, aliens have invaded, and humanity is struggling. Yet, one family comes together to weather the storm befriending an invader in the process. Can't wait to read the next book!

I enjoyed this exciting book with aliens and the end of the world as we know it. I enjoyed the main family making friends with one of the aliens. This a very well written sci-fi. I will be reading more of this author's books. I look forward to reading more of this story. ☺

Robert Heinlein would be proud of the real facts and science used in this book. They make sense of what happens. People react instead of acting. Not all who cry wolf are wrong. Makes me wonder what our government is hiding. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

This series is absolutely addictive! The characters are so real you feel that they are real people with real problems, and the plot twists and turns so skillfully. If you haven't read this author yet, you really should try one of his books, and you'll be hooked..

I usually avoid anything with zombies or aliens, because I like gritty, reality based fiction. This one snuck up on me, because I didn't know aliens were in the story. The writing and story flowed and before I knew it, I was hooked. This writer is gifted?

The Science Fiction novel, Rogue Star", shows real imagination, an excellent understanding of human nature and minute details which bring this wonderful novel to life. Not since I read "When Worlds Collide" has a novel of this type held my attention in such a riveting fashion. Highly recommended!
