according to Daemon and right he is... this book had just the right amount of momentum, intrigue and romance that managed the timeline of this story superbly. I Loved this book and I adore Daemon!! I liked Katy much better in this book than the second book. And the ending although not a surprise to me was very suspenseful. Props to the writer to come up with a very detailed and intricate storyline and characters. A vivid world that really pulls you in for an intense ride. I love books like that because they are few and far between! Would definitely recommend this book!! The only think that slightly bugged me about this book is that the writer forgot where she had placed the opal... and that placement was kind of important later... the fact that it shifted between the pages was an obvious oversight on the writers part that editing should have caught.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I really THOUGHT I was prepared for this book's cliffhanger ending. I was wrong. I was so, so wrong. I was NOT prepared for this story's ending. Not at all!!! I'm devastated and anxious and want to read Origin right now! Plus, I'M SO FREAKING PISSED AT BLAKE I COULD SCREAM! I HOPE HE GETS WHAT'S COMING TO HIM. I truly HATE his character! I should have waited until Opal was released before starting this book. Oh boy, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS! I hate them, I hate them, I hate them!!!

I was going to write a full review but I think my original comments express my feelings perfectly. I LOVE this series but could kick myself for not listening to all my Goodreads friends who warned me to wait until Origin was released before read this book.

After this ending, I'm in need of a major fluffy, fun, and steamy read. Lol.

Are you freaking kidding me?!?! Please, please tell me that ending was just some cruel joke the author has played on us all and that really there is another chapter hiding on my Kindle, because if not I might just throw a temper tantrum followed by a full on sob session!
Okay, now that I got that out...
I think maybe this was my favorite of the series so far. Katy is finally growing into her abilities and pretty much all the cards have been laid out on the table. Katy and Daemon are together and things between them are spicier than ever. As always, I have to gush about Daemon and how absolutely eatable he is. I mean, really, will there ever be another male character with the ability to live up to his awesomeness? I'm thinking not. He's everything a fictitious man should be and then some. I could go on all day and sound like a swooning seventeen year old, but since I'm actually a thirty-year-old married woman, I digress.
Another thing about Opal that added to it's greatness was the action. There was always something going on, and it made for a very quick and exciting read. Almost too quick, as I now have to wait until August before I can read Origin. All and all, this series has definitely jumped to the top of my Best Books Ever list and I can't wait to keep reading! Bring on the sexy aliens!

The Opal (book 3) volume brings a whole new level of hurting to the home team. If you were just as traumatized and righteously furious as I was with Onyx, then get ready to have your emotions supercharged again. As the relationship between Daemon and Katy evolve, everyone else seems to be sucked into the s*** storm that is cooking between this small alien group and the DoD. Tragic loss strikes the group, and the struggle is definitely real. Rather than feeding the infighting and remaining at odds, the team has to come together to help one of their own…but this could be the end for everyone.

I absolutely loved the first book, but this second book really needed some proofreading. I am disappointed that the errors distracted from the story so much. I was ready to go onto the 3rd book (hoping that the story picks up a bit more) but I just needed a break. I hope I find the motivation to get back to it because I really did love the characters and story. The first book was phenomenal. I kind of wish that the books were compressed into a three book series because it seems drawn out too much, at least so far. Hopefully, the next book changes my mind. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. It really should be a 3 but I love the series too much and the actual story is great.

I read books to fall in love with characters, and the often strange, new worlds they inhabit. Unfortunately, the Lux series has never really cut it for me in that way. This is obviously an "it's not you, it's me" thing, seeing as Daemon Black has become one of the most popular pin-up boys in the YA community, and the Lux books have become Armentrout's most successful series. Personally, I much prefer and adore her Covenant series. So I guess it all just comes down to a matter of taste.

Here's what I thought:
Although things often meandered into the Territory of All Things Downright Cheesy, I have to say the same thing that I think every time I finish a Jennifer L. Armentrout book: damn, that got intense. The ending of Opal is definitely its saving grace, because, honestly, this book only managed to hold my full attention sporadically. On the most part, the pacing of Opal is what I like to describe as a pretty lazy plod through the park, with the occasional sprint, as opposed to the brisk, energising exploits I enjoy.

In the end, I'm glad to say that I did enjoy Opal and am eagerly looking forward to Book 4, which, due to Ms Armentrout's awe-inspiring ninja writing skills, won't be too, too long a wait away.

If this was any other book, I probably would have given it 4 stars, but I had such high expectations since I absolutely LOVED both Obsidian and Onyx - I mean, they were two of my favorite reads of 2012. So, I was a little disappointed by this one. Daemon and Katy have some nice banter, but their awesome tension that burned up the pages of the previous two books just fell a bit flat now that they are actually together. I actually got so bored with the middle that I stopped reading it for about a month and then picked it back up to finish. The last 20% definitely picked up the pace, but I hate cliffhangers and OMG this is one of the worst ones ever!! I can't believe we have to wait until summer for the next one!!

Overall I enjoyed both of this novel thoroughly even if some of the science in “Opal” doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. If I ignore these little problems they are wonderful, riveting and well paced. You can't help but enjoy Katy and Daemon's constant bickering and heated passion. They are an adorable couple that I fall in love with a little bit more each novel.

CHARACTERS

Daemon - I am going to be completely honest! His self-confident attitude was attractive at first, then annoying at times. But now that Kat & Daemon's relationship has really come full circle and been established, I really love his attitude. His "Kitten" remarks are now really just out of complete adoration for Kat. He is confident, but he is an amazingly gorgeous, STRONG alien that can kick butt. He should be! But he really loves Kat and he takes care of her. He has really turned out to be great!

Kat - Her journey from book blogger to hybrid alien girlfriend has been so satisfying for me as a reader. She has messed up, lost some friendships and had to contemplate killing and death. This journey has not been easy or clear and I think J.A. has made it real and interesting. And how can you not love a girl who is a book blogger! Ha!

STORY LINE

Ok, folks, here is where it gets hairy for me! This is not an easy breezy YA paranormal romance. It is so hard to know that your beloved characters are walking into difficult territory and that it will be miracle if everyone makes it! Ugh! I basically had to put down the book and walk around, clean a little & maybe drink a little wine. I may or may have not been chanting, "It's a book, it's not real, it's ok". This book brings the action and the drama. Dawson, Daemon's brother is back, along with some other characters we thought were long gone. Dawson yearns for Beth and keeping him safe is a large undertaking. Dee is devastated after Adam's death and her relationship with Kat may never be the same. Then there is Ash, the gorgeous Luxen (alien) who is just the bain of Kat's existence. Needless to say, this book is full of the edge of your seat kind of drama and action you want. I am just a big whimp, so I took it in stride and took a lot of breaks!

ROMANCE

Yes!!! This is the sweet part of the this series I love! Not only does Daemon love him some Kat, but they are joined! Since the time Daemon healed Kat they have a special bond. So there is a depth to their relationship. I just love it and this book brings some real sweet and monumental moments for their relationship. It was sweet and meaningful, really loved it.

MY TWO CENTS

There is a crazy ending to this book, it kills me to have to wait and see what happens. So there it is! I can't wait to see what happens in Origin, which comes out is July 2013. It was such a ride, but I will warn I was crying at the end. And maybe a few times during the book. Happy & sad crys! But that is what makes it so great! I want to go on this journey with Daemon and Katy! Read it peeps!

A lot of reviewers are upset by the cliffhanger ending on this book, but it have to disagree that is was bad to end it that way. Now, I normally do not like cliffhangers, but I don't think adding an anticlimactic explanatory scene after the cliffhanger would have done the story service. Yes, it is a cliffhanger, but the story had a clear beginning, middle and ending. Sometimes, it is hard when a book doesn't end with HEA, but in a series, it often makes the next book (or movie, whatever) that much sweeter once it comes out. That is definitely the case here.

I haven't read the next book yet, but I did purchase it. I can't wait to see how they get out of this mess.

Finally Katy and Daemon stop being idiots and realize they are meant for each other and decide to commit and be together. (Like we knew they eventually would.)Goodness that whole back and forth was starting to drive me crazy. Loved the book. I started reading it late last night and finished last night. I continue to attach myself to the characters and the story. I knew the book was too good to be true around the end, cliffhanger. Totally saw that coming. Can't wait to read the next one in the series. I'm going to try to take my time with this next book, considering the next (also last one of the series) doesn't come out until the summer.

I like that katy is trying to be more independent and not rely on daemon so much. I liked the first book, but at this point i think im just going to continue reading to see how it ends. I bought the entire 5 book series together anyway.

Love this series. I wish there was less blasphemy. I see no need for it. Beautiful characters and imagery. The constant use of Jesus and God is its only downfall. There is not much use of curse words. Which is nice except she puts Jesus in instead of the cuss word which would be preferable. Im not a prude but the constant use is distracting because I don't use blasphemy and I end up skipping whatever emotion she is trying to get across because im changing the verbage in my head. I really like the story and the love she has the characters share. I would recommend.

Daemon... HOT DAMN!
Katy and Daemon show their true love in this, there's more obstacles to pass, more betrayals and so much more heartbreak. Katy and Daemon are finally together and are trying to overcome everything in their life, the DOD's after them because Dawson's back, old fiends come into the picture and all hell is breaking lose, the only question is. Will they survive it?
LOVED IT!!!
Damn Jennifer L. Armentrout you are my most favourite author, I LOVE the Luxen series and am always going to, this is one action packed paranormal ever, keep up the good work

Armentrout has done it again. Let me tell you...my heart freaking stopped at the end of this book. As cliff hangers go...it's a BIG one. Katy as always makes me laugh out loud and smile at her dorkiness. Daemon of course I will always love and we get to see a different side to him. A sweet and caring side. He still has his douche moments and one liners which make him even more diverse. I'm even crushing on Dawson who only wants Beth back and the journey they have to go on to get her is scary and heart stopping. This book had a ton of twists and gut wrenching I had to stop reading a few times to calm the heck down! You won't be disappointed where this series is going!

It's not often that authors can keep the excitement going with trilogies or in this case a soon to be quadriology (EEK! Can't wait!) but Jennifer L. Armentrout does exactly that with her latest book in the Lux series, Opal.

Daemon and Katy (aka Kitten) are stronger than ever and their relationship has evolved really sweetly during the series. Yes, Daemon can still be cocky but that's just part of his charm and the swoon worthiness of his exchanges with Katy definitely go off the Riechter scale in this book! He's protective, romantic, funny and had me wishing for a real life version :) Katy comes into her own wanting to be an equal to Daemon and I admired her for that even though it did get her into trouble a few times.

While this couple gets closer, things around them start to unravel - new characters are introduced, old characters return and lots of disappearances occur. But through it all, I couldn't help but root for D & K as well as for the reunion of Dawson and Bethany.

Daemon is by far the most swoon worthy character out of all the YA paranormal books I've read and I will take aliens to fallen angels anytime! lol Can't wait for Origins to come out next year!!

I loved this book! Jennifer Armentrout sure knows how to lead you down a roller coasters of emotions you actually feel. I found myself clutching the book at times reading so quickly I would need to reread things, anxious to see what happened next.

Sigh - Daemon how I love you! Katy, I'm rooting for you - but please, please let the ambivalence go!

Decision made, I'm staring the next book right away - and really with and ending like that I am glad I do not need to wait!

What would you do for the people you love? Everyone is asking themselves this question. Blake claims his love for his friend Chris made him betray them all. But a fear of dying and an unhealthy obsession for Katy seem to be his main motivators. There are great triumphs and greater disasters. Disappointed in Dee. She gave up on that friendship really easy.

LOVE this series so much! The writing is just amazing, and I really like the story.... (baaaah!) anyways, there were multiple times throughout the book where I would say, "Nope, nope, nope, I'm done." Close it, (with a book mark obviously) and then open it a second later and start reading. Th product was in perfect condition and arrived on time.

Another amazing read to the series. This book will have you on your toes and begging for more. Devastating and heart wrenching! You won't be able to put it down. Who will you trust? Not everyone is who they say they are.

I love this series and Damian and Katy's relationship has been so hot from the very beginning. It is still smoking along with sweet and funny.

This book is about trying to rescue Beth and it puts everyone in danger again. It is so emotionally charged that I had to read it and try to catch my breathe afterwards.

I don't want to give anything away and if you are reading this book then hopefully you have read the first 2.5 books before. Not that it can't stand alone, but you miss all the fireworks from the very beginning. This one has a cliffhanger in the end....AWWWugh..No!!! I can't wait for the next book.

What a fantastic series. I never though I will read paranomal. I thought I will the first book in the series a try but I have been HOOKED. So hooked that I lost lots of sleep reading through the nights.

I am totally in love with Daemon. I want him!!!!!!

What an ending! I cant forget it. I cant imagine how Daemon and Katy must feel with such a sad and devistating situation.

How Daemon must've felt turning around.

I cant believe I have to wait till June for the next book.

All 3 books were fantastic. READ it!!!!!

I love Lux series, it has the most innovative, and entertaining world building but this review is not going to be fangirling type because I had some issues with Opal (namely Katy). It is a good book, and if you follow this series, then it is a must read, but unfortunately, it is not as good, and exciting as Onyx. The second book in the series, as you're already familiar with, was full of surprises, there was always something happening on every other page, and compared to that, Opal was a bit slow, and uninteresting, especially the second half.

I still loved Opal just because it has Dawson in it, and I'm totally a Dawson fan, been one since I read Shadows. He is the charming, and loving one, but in Opal we see a different side to him which was expected given the harsh treatment he went through past year. Before reading this book, I was scared that he would be broken mentally or something, but I was so happy that he was not. He just need a little time and space to get used to everything; he's not the old Dawson, but I still love the new one, and Oh. My. Gosh, the ending was just perfect for him. He got what he wanted, and I was screaming & dancing reading that part. I love Dawson & Bethany, and if you're their fan, then you will be happy at the end.

Opal is the steamiest book in the Lux series, and there were some scenes where I was simply shocked that it was happening in a YA book. Nothing too graphic, obviously, but I do tend to use my over imagination (*wink*). Daemon was his best in this book, very romantic and caring. Don't worry, he is still a tease, and egoistical as before. As for Katy, I've always liked her for how strong, and stubborn she was, but in Opal she seemed very unlikable. She acted a certain way that annoyed me, and kept unnecessary secrets that put others in danger. I just hope Katy is better in Origin.

Overall, I'm so happy to have read Opal. The first half of the book will have you gripping the edges of your seats, and flipping pages with Luxen speed just to see what happens next. It is that exciting, but then once you hit the halfway mark, things might get a little slow with the story-developing side, and focus more on the romantic aspect, which was still good. Most of you might disagree with me, but I just wasn't invested in most part of the story. I still don't know why because I've loved & 5 stared every JLA book, but Opal wasn't the best. My advice: Read it for Dawson. Do it! You will not be disappointed.

PS: There is a new character who is kind of young, but I still have my eyes on him. He's Special, and I like Special.

I enjoyed the books that came before this that made me really want to stick with her books. But this book, it felt drawn out to he most boring and most predictable storytelling that it took me a month to get through it.

Why is there so much mushy face stuff and the dialogue between Kat and Daemon was unbearable. It reminded me of Twilight. "I can't be without you." "I only want you", ugh.

I've really enjoyed reading this series so far and this book does not disappoint. If you have enjoyed the previous books, this one is just as good, if not a little better of an ending.

In the previous books, it is clear that Daemon and Katy have close connections to their loved ones. This book shows how much they care for their families and for each other; the ending will leave you in agony. I hate having to endure the wait for this next one. I would definitely read it again and recommend to anyone who likes Armentrout and this series.

In the third instalment of the Lux series, Kat and Daemon face a huge challenge. They have to make sure Dawson stays put and doesn't go off to find Beth and get himself killed, figure out a way to find Beth without getting caught by the DOD, and spend as much time as they can together before it's to late. Along the way, an unwanted guest arrives, giving them much needed information, but on one condition. Kat and Daemon have faced many challenges, but nothing like this. They have to get into a building surrounded by electric fences, onyx, and security cameras to get what Dawson needs and wants most... Beth. The ending of the book is a shocker, I reread it about twenty times. Haven't Kat and Daemon been through enough already? But I have to say, I loved it anyway. The ending was definitely fantastic.

This book was absolutely amazing! Jennifer Armentrout is a beautiful writer and I could not put this book down. Now, I love so many books but this series is by far my absolute favorite! I read this book in less than two days, and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it. I want to tell you my favorite parts, but the whole book is pretty much my favorite part, plus I don't want to spoil, which I would.

I loved the ending but I also hated it. It ended in a cliff hanger, which I liked and hated. I am dying to know what happens next but I hate how it didn't go on so I could find out what happened next!

I sincerely hope there is a fourth book to the Lux series, because if not I'm going to cry. This is a have to read. Can't wait to find out what happens next! Grea job Jennifer! I'm a huge fan!

This was such a great book! Sometimes the "next" book in a series is a total letdown, but this book was one of those page turners that you can't put down until you're done!!! I won't give anything away, but in true fashion the author doesn't fail, she leaves you hanging off a cliff...July seems so far away!!! I recommend to anyone who enjoys YA, and even for those of us who passed the YA age years ago - what are you waiting for either start the series right now reading Obsidian, or grab the latest book Opal and happy reading!

So... I had just finished the book before this and was SO excited to get Opal thinking this was the last book. So as one might think I expected, opening, rising action, climax, resolution Jennifer Armentroit style. WRONG. Noooooooooooo instead she had to end it with the biggest cliffhanger is the history of cliffhangers!!!!!!!!! Then decides that shes going to take FOREVER (lilterly I might be 80 by the time she finishes it) to write the next book ._. Yea I'm taking 1 star off for that (Mwhaha) *ranting done* other then that it was pretty good. OF course i loved daemon (AWESOME as ever). But Katy was pretty badbutt in this book. She really showed what she was made of!!!! I can't wait for the next book... that is if she ever publishes it.

LOVE THESE BOOKS,... I am actually on my second read of them now!!! I love Daemon!! and REALLY don't like Blake... but I see where he is coming from he would do anything to save his friend just like she would save him and the others.. I really hate that Adam is no longer and wish that it was Andrew instead that had died...but then that wouldn't explain dee being there...
But great read everyone should read these!

Ok I thought these were kind of cheesy (sorry!) but the more I've gotten into them the more I've really enjoyed them! I liked this one because there wasn't the constant bickering between the two. They finally recognized and admitted their feelings and it was really getting good! There was a lot more drama as far as the DOD and hybrids go so that was nice. I actually can't wait to start the next one!

I'm soooooooooooooooooooo mad right now! It's 11:20pm and I have to be up at 4 am for work. I just finished reading OPAL. I'm so mad at the ending! It's the hugest WTF moment ending I have ever read I think. I literally looked at my kindle and trying to move to the next page and then realized it was done. I stared at it for like 3 mins in shock. I'm so annoyed. I just read then all in a matter of 3 day and then this is what I get! I literally wanted to cry because I was so disappointed. Then I discovered ORIGIN is next and I about crapped myself. I can't wait until that book comes out!! This series is one of the best I have ever read. I would love it if it became a movie and Ian Somerhalder plated Daemon. Least, he is who I picture as Daemon!
Great Read all around! Can't wait until August!!

The third story in the Lux Series follows suit with the other two. The storyline is interesting, I've never read a series that has being of light from another planet. My problem with this entire series is that there are far more mistakes throughout the book than there ever should be. Although this book has far fewer mistakes than the first two, there are still mistakes to be found.

Wow
There really isn't anything else I can say because I am stuck on the ending. I didn't know there was another book coming out when I read this so I thought she ended the series this way. I thought it was the boldest ending I have ever read. However, I am glad to know there will be another book. I would be ok if this series never ended. I love these characters and the concept.
My only negative about this book is the fact that I didn't get to read a chapter in Daemon's head. Those have quickly become one of my favorite things about the books. If she wrote the entire series over in his perspective I would happily buy them all over again. I missed my Daemon fix at the end of the book but I have somehow figured out how to carry on.

I found this book not as titillating as the first, but I am enjoying the series, so I will continue with it. The story has so much potential, its plot is left wide open for so many things, and I like the way its written.
It is more based for the teenager audience, and romance is romance, whatever age you are.

OK...so honestly, I think I liked obsidian the best because the chemistry between Katy and Daemon was building...and their fighting and flirting was adorable. I think I'm getting used to all the adventure and love stuff cause I just wasn't into this book that much. I wanted more out of it...but there is a CERTAIN scene that was written beautifully, which is why I gave it 4 stars :) And Jennifer Armentrout will always be my favorite author!

Like the prior books in this series, Opal delivers excitement of first love, the intensity of discovery, and the inner turmoil of realizing what you are capable of in your darkest moments. Combine that with complex and interesting characters, an intriguing storyline and terrific storytelling and you have Opal. Be ok Nguyen ok n the next book please.

You think you have every character figured out and then... BAM! I think the whole deal with this book is you can't change your stripes. I mean everyone keeps changing and developing new facets but at their core they can't change. Blake is still a conniving little twit no matter how you may think he's redeemable with his "love" for his other half

I just finished. What a cliffhanger! Gah! I am not sure there is a whole lot more that I can say that hasn't been said already. The characters continue to develop and mature, the pacing is excellent. There are heart pounding moments of action, and just plain heart pounding moments.. Armentrout has created two great series that I adore and rabid fan girl over waiting for each new installment.
