I like Winter Renshaw''s writing even if it borders on the fantastical. This is the best book of hers I have read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys decent characters, sex scenes, and a good storyline. It's a good book to get lost in for a couple hours. Fast read.

Nothing like a slow burn to make you swoon!! Also Nothing like a second chance romance to get your heart racing. Both of these stories drew me in and held my attention the entire time. I loved each couple and the story they told. Would recommend to any romance lover.

Thank you Ms. Renshaw for sharing a part of yourself. The main characters in this book dealt with a lot of tragedy. I loved the way the story developed. Leighton was a very strong woman and was able to deal with situations that life through her way. Great job!

I've read and enjoyed books by this author before but country nights has a very large plot component dealing with sexual assault including detailed descriptions. Not only is it potentially super triggering, it's also lazy writing. It's used to prove that the bad guy is Very Bad and as a plot device for the hero to admit his feelings for the heroine.

Even if you've enjoyed winter renshaw books before, I'd suggest skipping this one.

Winter Renshaw has done it again - delivering another wonderful story. I must say her work just keeps getting better and every time I finish one book and think it's my new favourite, her new book tops it again - which is how I feel about 'Country Nights.' This was just a beautiful story of love, heartbreak and fate bringing two people, who have had a hard time in the past, together. The other thing I love about Winter Renshaw is that she always has fabulous female leads that are always strong, sassy yet fun. Leighton was another such heroine. She was real but no walk over, fun but not neurotic, considered but not lacking compassion.
“My point is, River,” she says. “We can’t allow tragedy to rob us of our God-given right to live a happy, fulfilled life .” “Are you done?” I ask, eyes on the road. Her little lecture is random. And completely unnecessary . Leighton sinks back in her seat, quiet for a moment . “ Yeah .” “ Good .”

This is Leighton's story... she returns to her former childhood home, there she meets a gruff alpha cowboy who now owns the home, named River. He is not expecting her so is less than inviting. Leighton is leaving a bad personal situation along with dealing with some family issues. River, on the other hand is complex and closed off for reasons that are slowly revealed to the reader and quite heartbreaking.
River and Leighton share a special connection that slowly unravels. While the characters have great physical chemistry, this isn't a story that allows sex to overshadow true story development and the emotions. It's no Insta-love or Insta- anything - it is real and believable. It proves that while not everything can heal old wounds, love can provide new beginnings. "I love your heart" ... says it all.

This is a story about fate, love, trust and ultimately finding a new happiness. The characters were strong and the writing flowed beautifully. The book is also full of great supporting characters that add their own charm. 'Country Nights' was a real page turner, easily read in a single sitting. Quite simply, it's a beautiful must read!

I have just spent the morning reading this book in one sitting as I totally lost track of time and was invested so much in Leighton and Rivers story.
I have read all of Winter Renshaw books but this is my new favourite.
You could feel the passion for the book in her words.
At the end in the book she added "her ramblings" and it said she used inspiration from some of her childhood for Bonesteel Creak and you could definitely tell.
It's got what you can tell are happy memories in this book as well as a wonderful story filled with love and loss.
This book was an emotional read for me as I really connected with River and Leighton and was rooting for them from the very beginning.
River was a broken soul who needed
someone in his life to bring back the light and happiness.
Leighton needed an escape after a traumatising experience.
They both needed each other but weren't aware of it yet.
I like to see it as fate intervened and gave them the happiness they deserved.
This story will take you on a wonderful journey and show you sometimes love sneaks up on you when you least expect it but it's worth it if you only give yourself chance to love and be loved.
I highly recommend you one click this beautiful book as soon as you are able too.

3.5 “I love your heart.” Stars!

The Review:
This was a very simple, very sweet second-chance-at-happiness romance with a little bit of angsts and a great story. Leighton won me over and River made my heart weep at all he’d lost. This was my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed the writing style and I connected with the characters. There were a few things I wished had happened differently, but overall, it was a good read.

Story/Characters...
Leighton Hart has just found out her fiance is a cheater and lier. Needing some quiet and peace to re-find herself and heal her wounded heart, she takes it as a sign when she finds her childhood home on a renters list. Spending her savings and packing her bags, she heads back to Bonesteel Creek in hopes to reconnect with a past she remembers fondly ... that is until she meets the surly owner of her family's old farm and realizes she’s been swindled.

River McCray is off the grid. After losing his whole world in the blink of an eye, he’s closed himself off from any kind of connection but when Leighton shows up at his doorstep with all her limited possessions in tow, he can’t seem to turn her completely away.

I loved River right from the start. He was intense, quiet and resistant to any and all connection. He straight up sends Leighton away but soon his caring and wholesome heart shines through and comes to her rescue. Leighton was a no-nonsense kind of character and I enjoyed and respected her .. all the way up until she makes a pretty bad decision in keeping quiet when she should have spoke up. After such a strong start, it was disappointing to see. I also didn’t really like the “potential” of a second love interest. In this kind of romance, I want my heroine’s eyes to be set on one choice ... the hero. Not swayed by another and with Seth in the picture, it kind of threw me at first as to who I should have been rooting for.

Also, when Leighton’s ex came back into the picture, I expected more. He shows up, tries to stake his claim and after all the underhanded things he did to find Leighton, he just leaves? I was expecting a bigger showdown. But I loved how River stood up to Grant and let Grant know Leighton was now his! FUN!

River’s heartbreak was well written. In fact, I loved how the author wrote him from beginning to end. He was grieving and hadn’t moved on from a painful past. I became emotionally invested in him and it only solidified as the story moved forward. I also enjoyed how supportive and understanding Leighton was. She could have let jealousy rule her, but she understood she was befriending a man who had a past and she respected that past and all the love it held.

There was a wonderful, slow build to romance between River and Leighton and when they came together, it was sweet and also hot and sexy.

The Wrap Up:
All in all, this was a great story. There were a few parts I wished had been different, but this book was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I’ll be looking up more books by this author.

Hm... Okay. Where to start?

This story isn't spicy or hot or anything remotely close to either of those. It's sweet, slow, warm, and uplifting. I have no idea if Ms. Renshaw writes all her stories like this but I hope so.

Leighton's ex is a self-serving, cheating jerk with little care or thought for anyone besides himself. He isn't below threatening her employer or her family to try to convince her to come back to him. Does she? Doesn't she? Leighton's really firm on never going back to him, even before he tracks her down. I like her resolve there. Rode that train, never getting on it again.

Being back in Bonesteel Creek, SD, reminds her of the life she had pre-ex. It was simple and fulfilling. She reacquaints herself with old friends, makes new ones over the hill. She unknowingly befriends a bad man and almost pays for that relationship. She's reminded of a man she loved and lost, her father taken too soon when she was younger. And she finds herself in constant company of a man that intrigues her.

River's a loner by choice. Tragedy, twice, stole his willingness to open up to anyone. The first incident was a fuzzy memory lurking in the back of his brain, a noose waiting to close if anyone ever found out the truth. It took the entire story (good play, Ms. Renshaw) for this memory to become clear, and it took a moment longer for the dots to be connected between it and Leighton. The emotional upheaval that revelation caused was spot on. My heart clenched then ached when the truth was made known, and I desperately wished for it to not be true.

The second was more recent and remained an open wound because he refused to let it close. To lose his wife, child, and unborn child in a freak accident turned him into a walking zombie. He went through the motions, kept to himself, because what was the point in really living? It meant letting people in, letting them get close, opening himself to the very real possibility of losing them and being left empty once again. He wasn't taking that chance, not again.

That might have worked if Leighton was anyone other than Leighton. She was persistent, nagging and pushing him to let her in, even just a smidgen. He'd give in, a little, but it wasn't enough for her. Oh, she apologized for nagging, for trying to push him past his comfort zone, and the dynamics of their relationship changed because of this. She accepted his silence and refusals, letting him just be until he was ready to talk about himself.

The chemistry is super, super slow. It seems to jump straight into love. Not insta-love because there isn't even insta-lust. But the love is heartfelt and deep. And so very real.

The tragedy I mentioned earlier involves Leighton's father. He died far too young in a car accident that remained unsolved for years. River's perceived role in his death produced a gap larger than the Grand Canyon between him and Leighton. Her grief returned tenfold; his guilt intensified a hundredfold. A diligent friend to both set them straight and revealed the true culprit, a man both knew all too well.

In that moment, when Leighton and River stand on opposite ends of the earth instead of together, their love remains strong and pulls them back towards each other. It grows in leaps and bounds when the truth of that night is made known and that black cloud no longer hangs over River's head. In a way, it's offered the ultimate wave of forgiveness that he desperately needs.

This is a strangers to friends to lovers story. There's plenty of bickering, stubbornness, persistence, and discovering in it. I enjoyed every word of it. I hope to read more by Ms. Renshaw. Her story telling is on point, especially with conveying emotions. She's an author I'll look out for, and this is a story I'll definitely read again.

Country Nights
By: Winter Renshaw

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️.5 Star Review by Kristie K

Winter Renshaw does it again with a tortured country cowboy, and a broken city girl looking for an escape, only to find it in each other…

Country Nights is the story of Leighton Hart, and River McCray. A city girl with humble beginnings, and a recent betrayal that just wants a fresh start…and a country cowboy with a broken past and a shattered heart that refuses to live again. When a cruel twist of fate in the form of an internet scam brings Leighton to River’s doorstep, their twisted fates collide. River is closed off and cold at first meeting, but begins to soften ever so slightly when he sees Leighton again in town. Making the offer for her to stay in his home in exchange for work on the farm, River opens himself up just a little, and Leighton excepts. A friendship slowly builds, and a chemistry is definitely building between the two. When past secrets come to light, and unspoken truths threaten to break them, the strength of their love becomes evident. Will they be strong enough to overcome the past, and take a step together toward a new future?

I absolutely ADORE Winter Renshaw! Her books are amazing, and Country Nights is no exception. I truly loved this story, and the characters she built within it’s pages. From the gorgeous country hunk on the cover, to the captivating blurb that is sure to hook readers, Ms. Renshaw delivered. The character development was excellent, with both characters being authentic, lovable, and real. The plot and storyline were unique, and well constructed. With plenty of twists and turns, lots of broken promises, betrayals, and heartbreak…Country Nights is everything you’ve come to expect from Winter Renshaw. Unfortunately, I did have a few disappointments with the story, but nothing I can’t get over. I would have liked to see a resolution to some of the issues that came up (two words…Seth & Grant), learned a bit more about both River and Leighton’s pasts, and been present at Tibb's Butte. All that being said, though, this was a heartwarming, sweet, broken, and endearing read with all sorts of feels. Winter Renshaw definitely delivered the goods!

What a beautiful second chance romance! I can't say enough about how great this book is. I went into it completely blind, not even reading the blurb because I trust Winter's writing ability that much! I will read anything she writes, all of them are great reads, and this one is no exception.

This is the story about Leighton and River.
Leighton finds herself at a crossroads in her life after finding out her fiancee isn't the man she fell in love with. After a sudden break-up, she finds that she needs to get away and find herself. Looking online, she discovers her childhood home for available for the summer. She throws caution to the wind, and heads to South Dakota to find a piece of mind. Only, once she is there, she realizes that she has been scammed. Her childhood home isn't for rent. Not only is it not for rent, but it happens to be occupied a single, grumpy cowboy named River.
River is a complicated man. He stays on his farm and keeps to himself. He isn't out going, he isn't overly friendly. He never smiles and he refuses to get close to anyone. He has walled himself off from people, content to live his life alone. When Leighton unexpectedly walks onto his farm and into his life, he has no idea how to handle the mess she is in. He doesn't want to help her, but he doesn't want to see her with no place to go. So, he offers her a deal. She can stay on the farm, rent free, until she can get back on her feet but she has to work on the farm.
The chemistry is instant between River and Leighton. Not the insta-love kind of chemistry, though. Yeah, there is physical attraction, but there is also something else. Something that pulls them together even though neither wants to admit it. As you read the story, you find that they are both broken in different ways. And you also realize that maybe, because of their pasts, they can also heal each other.
I loved this book, I just cannot say that enough. I loved Leighton. She was the perfect heroine. She wasn't the weepy, weak woman the she could have easily been given her situation. She was strong, had beliefs, wanted to move on even when doing so seemed impossible. And River! (Oh, does Winter know how to write a great male lead!!) Beautifully, broken River. Trying to pick up the pieces of his life, staying withdrawn and closed off, but still finding ways to help those who need it. So it was only natural that he helped out Leighton. And it was so great to see their relationship develop naturally, organically, like it should have. Starting out as reluctant friends, they ended being so perfect for each other. Two broken souls brought together by unfortunate circumstances in order to heal each other. You can't help but want to believe that destiny played a part in all of it!

River & Leighton

Oh wow! I fell in love with both characters but there seems to be a pattern lately. I'm loving all of Winter's Hero's. I loved Leighton's persistent care free attitude towards life. Even after her family was destroyed when she was 15.
River is living his life but not actually living. He is in a deep guilt ridden depression. Has been for the last five years. He lost everything. He's kind of a recluse and no body can seem to get through to him. Until Leighton shows up and sort of barges her way into his life!
Leighton is engaged to Grant and she realises that he has changed and she doesn't like who's he become and how he treats her. Then she discovers he's been cheating on her, so she leaves. She books a 60 night vacation at her old childhood home. But when she gets there, all is not what it seems. She's been scammed!

I loved this book from the first page, to the last! There were a few twists and turns. It broke my heart reading this book, reading all that River had been through. He definitely has a soft spot in my heart. Leighton's persistent and sassy attitude with River was everything he needed to get him out of his funk. She was caring, friendly, honest, pushy, but in the kindest of ways. She was exactly what he needed.

There were a few spots that made me gasp and shake my head and I was like "Seriously someone needs to throat punch him, pretty quick" or "no way, that didn't happen. It couldn't have happened!!"

I truly fell in love with these characters and also the side characters, Molly and Guy. I wanted Leighton to give her mother a kick up the backside. I understand what she went through but she needed a harsh wake up call.

I think, no i know this has become my 2nd favourite book of Winter's. It is a story that you will want to read time and again and never get over it! I was also happy to find at the end of the book that it was based on her childhood. We have gotten another glimpse of the lovely Mrs Renshaw!

This was a very readable, sweet, sexy, slightly angsty romance.

“I fight a smile. This girl has a smart mouth on her, and while I find her irritating ninety-seven percent of the time, the other three percent of the time, I kind of secretly enjoy her company.”

When Leighton turns up at her former beloved childhood home, under the impression that she’s rented it for a couple of months, she’s met with a less than welcoming man, and they figure out that she’s been scammed.

“He’s as guarded as Area 51, and yet I’m incredibly attracted to him. He intrigues me in a way that no one else ever has.”

When River meets Leighton, he recognises something in her that echoes something in him. When he realises that she’s short of funds, with nowhere to stay, he does something completely out of character – he impulsively offers her a place to stay in exchange for working at the farm that he now owns.

“I knew from the moment I saw her that letting myself feel a damn thing would be dangerous for me, so I held my cards close and kept her at a distance.”

River is closed off, bitter, and temperamental. He carries the aftereffects of a tragedy deep in his heart. However, this city girl has a way about her that has him acting out of character, and shifting something in him. He’s just been existing day to day, and her presence in his life wakes him up from his frozen state, and makes his heart beat, again. However, a shocking discovery has the potential to break them apart.

Leighton seems to be naturally a sunny and resilient woman, in spite of her own heartbreaks. Her heart really feels for River when she discovers his history, and she’s determined to pull him back into the world of the living before she disappears out of his life. I loved how their tentative friendship turned into something firmer, and then into something more. I loved how she brought out little smiles and surprised laughter from River.

This was a lovely story about loss, heartbreak, healing, and second chances. It was a fab, heartwarming read with a bit of intrigue thrown in. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I received n advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a big fan of Winter Renshaw and have read most of her books/series, her characters always have this great chemistry and organic feel that doesn't always come across in romance stories. With Country Nights she didn't miss a trick. I caught a teaser of Country Nights at the end of one of her last releases and have been waiting (not so patiently) to see what would happen next.

Leighton has been in a relationship with her fiance for 7+ years, but since hes gotten his new job, he has changed and she doesn't feel like she matters much to him anymore. Minutes after she tells him that she is leaving him, she catches a text on his phone - all the proof she needs that he's been cheating on her. She decides his high time to take a break from life and take herself back to her roots. Leighton hasn't been back to her childhood home in more than a decade, not since her father was killed, and her family fell apart. As luck would have it her Family Home is up on a Rental site and she decides it must be fate, until she makes the trip and sees it as the scam it is.

River hasn't had the easy life. In fact he is still punishing himself over the loss of his family, and the added self torcher of an event he doesn't even really remember but he know its was his fault. Even with all the odds against him, or so he believes, fate (that tricky little diva) has brought Leighton to his door step.

So i have to start out by saying how much I love both characters names. For me it really set that whole country feel. I also love how the events played out. I felt like every little detail was unwrapped perfectly at just the right time. Nothing was held back too long, or given away too soon. I also love Leighton's instincts about Seth. As River says no one really sees him for who he is, but of all the people around the one person he really needs on his side, see Seth for who he truly is. I also love the whole full circle/Karma play this book had. Will def be reading again, and recommending.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Country Nights is a sweet, country/cowboy romance about returning to your roots and finding true love in the unlikeliest of places.

Leighton just found out that her fiance, the guy she’s been giving her heart to for the past seven years, has been cheating on her. Leighton can’t stay in Scottsdale after that, especially when she finds her childhood farm listed on a B&B rental site. Leighton pays up front for a few months rental in the house she grew up in and packs her bags. Only to get there and find out that the guy who owns the place now, River McCray, didn’t list his house on any B&B rental site and he definitely didn’t accept any money from her in order to stay there.

Scammed out of thousands, Leighton has no choice but to accept River’s offer to do some odd jobs around the farm in exchange for a bed to sleep in until she can get her finances straightened out. River is closed off and withdrawn, but that doesn’t stop Leighton from feeling something for him. Nor does it keep Leighton from showing an interest in Seth, River’s womanizing brother. Leighton will have to make a choice between which brother to save if she’s going to finally come back home for good.

Winter Renshaw’s writing is fresh and easy to get into. Country Nights is written from both Leighton and River’s perspectives, and Renshaw does an excellent job switching the story between both characters, especially since Leighton and River are so different from each other. I found myself cheering on River as he started breaking through his past and accepting there might be a future for him. If you like your men to be rugged cowboys with a troubled past, Country Nights is an excellent read for you.

After discovering her fiance' is a cheating scumbag, Leighton leaves him and wants to go someplace where she can just be. She longs for a place she can call 'home' and the last time she felt that way was when she was younger at a farmhouse in South Dakota. So, she checks out a rental BnB website and happens upon her childhood home. She immediately signs on and reserves her stay for the next 2 months. Upon arriving, things are not as they seemed online. She's been scammed. No worries, the current owner, River, is a brooding and moody farmer who offers her a job and a stay in the bunkhouse. She isn't impressed. She ends up staying in town and the feline-infested hostel she visits her first night has her fleeing to her car the next. River finds her and ends up talking her into coming back out to the farm and staying on there. He sets her up with mundane and annoying chores as her 'keep' for the room and board. She goes in town and meets a sweet-talking bar owner who ends up being a local veteran who is revered and highly sought after by the ladies. Sparks fly and loads of interesting things happen. Her ex, Grant, even tracks her down to try and take her back home where she belongs. I got super-absorbed at the middle of this book and was surprised at a few events that take place. I have to keep this vague to leave out spoilers, but it is rather interesting and things in Leighton's life are touch and go again. I totally swooned at the end.

Wow. This incredible book was a tough one. Winter touched on several incredibly sensitive topics... it's like she decided she was going to go for broke and pack all her angst into one book! I wasn't sure I was going to like it... she did warn about the angst and sensitive subject matter. But being a true fan of All Things Winter that I am, coupled with my innate sense of curiosity and fear of missing out, I took a deep breath and dug in. And as usual, I was NOT disappointed!

Leighton and River are both very complex characters, who each experience a lot of heartaches, loss, and just plain s**t luck in their lives, yet they are both so strong in the way they persevere and their willingness to gradually trust again. River, so silently strong and intense, plus Leighton, so plucky and brave, equal an intense, thoroughly enjoyable read. They give you all the feels. I went from crying tears for their past experiences, to grinning like an idiot over their sweet connections. It was painful to read about their hurts and gratifying to watch their walls slowly crack and crumble to the ground. As much as I am looking forward to another light, funny read from Winter, I enjoy her deep, emotional roller coaster reads as well. And this book was definitely the latter, and definitely a must read!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Ms. Winters has done it again – a wonderful book with great characters, a warm storyline with some sadness and eventually joy. Leighton, River, and Seth – the main characters that light up this story. Leighton has just found out her fiancé was cheating. She decides to get away from her life with her fiancé, Grant, and find somewhere to make new memories. Leighton eventually decides to check Rent-BnB and finds her childhood in South Dakota for rent. She sends her deposit, packs up and drives to South Dakota only to learn when she arrives at her childhood home that she was scammed by an internet troll – her childhood home was not for rent. However, what Leighton found will definitely change her life – she meets River McCray, a handsome, cranky, lonely cowboy with a sad story. Then there’s Seth, River’s brother that has a secret that he’s held over River’s head for years. Leighton has a choice – Seth or River. Seth ends up being a horrible person that throw her into River’s arms. River, who since his wife and children died, never found the warmth that Leighton presents to him. This is a love story with a lot of ups, downs, heartache and eventually joy. I truly enjoy Ms. Winter’s stories – they’re never boring, keep your attention and when you start to read, you won’t want to put it down.

So much better than her last book (The Perfect Illusion). I was kinda bummed out that I wasn't a fan of it and wondering if I'd be let down again but NOPE! Country Nights was Ah-maz-ing! Love, love, love!

River was perfectly broody and grouchy then super sweet and adorable. For the most part Leighton was a decent heroine- she only annoyed me slightly.

This story has so much more to it than you think it will based on the blurb. Other reviewers have done a really great job giving the summary and more detail about what the story has to offer so I'll just stick with my list of "must know" before you decide if you want to borrow or buy.

1.) Cheating? Not between the H&h.
2.) Cliffhanger? Nope.
3.) HEA (Happily Ever After)? Heck yes! Such a fantastic ending.
4.) Violence? Attempted rape but nothing graphic. You should be alright, I wouldn't classify this as a violent book though.
5.) Writing/Grammar? Well done. I caught a few things here and there but Winter has such wonderful flow nothing stuck out horribly.
6.) Sexual content? MF only. Vanilla and it was actually pretty bland. There were a few sex scenes but they were kinda boring. I wanted more.
7.) Would I recommend this book to my friends? Yep.
8.) POV? Dual
9.) Premise/Trope: Roommates kinda?

It's a good 3.5 stars. Positives: no billionaires, no SEALs, no virgins. Just regular every day people. Negatives: The book is rather short. In the 200 plus pages range. Each chapter is 5-10 minutes in length, and almost each is a separate scene. It makes it easy to fly through it, but you're not really invested. Details were missing, or repeated.
I like the characters, but I didn't love them. It just was too rushed.
It's a sweet story to spend a bit of time on, but there was heartache that didn't get enough focus. If you're going to give a character a tragic backstory, which is not my favorite, then focus more attention on it. River did not have a great life, but more time was spent on Leighton. She lost her father, I get it. But he was kicked repeatedly in his life, from childhood through adulthood. He deserved a better narrative.

Also, note: Leighton had unprotected sex with her ex fiance the day she found out he was cheating on her. Then she had unprotected sex with River. And nowhere did she think, "hey, maybe I should get checked out", before having sex again, with or without a condom.

Further note: Things in this book got tied up nice and neat, too perfectly.

Leighton just ended her engagement and is looking for happiness again so she's moving back to her childhood home ...only she's not expecting it to be occupied by a stranger ...River...he owns the home now and he's stubborn and closed off and one big mystery ...unlike Seth the bar owner...who seems charming and sweet and says all the right things ...but he's no match for River

~~I don’t want to so much as risk getting attached. My life is complicated enough as it is.~~

My heart ..the drama ..that moment ..
you'll know which one I mean once you read this amazing book....my heart broke for River... Leighton wants so much to get to know him at least a little .. but he's so guarded .. I liked Leighton...she's seems like the kind of her girl that when she knows what she wants ...just goes for it ...does it ...

~~All I know is until I met her, I was falling, sinking into an endless black hole. Then I kissed her. And suddenly I felt the earth beneath my feet again.~~

This book was so good book not an ounce of it boring ..had me enthralled from start to finish ..some OMG moments ...loved getting to know these characters ...and enjoyed their story...recommended read!!!

This story was everything an epic love story should be. River and Leighton are both learning to live after tragedies in their past. Leighton returns to her home town to regroup after a disastrous breakup with her fiance, but finds that she's been scammed out of her life savings.

River wants nothing to do with her - or any woman, for that matter - but he can't resist the magnetic pull he feels towards her. Slowly she draws him out of his shell, showing him that there's still something to live for, but then the interconnectedness of small-town living rises up to knock them both flat on their backs and threatens their still-fragile friendship.

The author doesn't just give us backstories for her characters, she gives us deep wells of emotional turmoil as well and loving memories that form a strong enough foundation upon which to build their futures. How it all works out is a testament not only to the author's skill as a writer, but also to what every small-town resident knows about the intrinsic goodness of people bound by a shared sense of community.

The characters from this story will stay with you for a long time, like friends you grew up with that you know you can always go back to. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Winter Renshaw has done it again for me, I absolutely loved this book and read it in one sitting I couldn't put it down, I loved everything about this story. For me is was two broken souls, second chance at love and had that little bit of mystery of secrets and I couldn't put it down until I read the whole lot.
Leighton had pretty much the worst 48hrs anyone to could ask for and it didn't seem like anything was going to work out for her, but being the strong character she was and even with her problems the joy she brought to the book was what made the book so good.
The thing I loved about River was he was broody, moody, shut off from the world and just wanted to live in peace even though it was a very lonely life. He had very good reasons for this as we find out throughout the book but I really loved seeing this character come back to life.
I loved Molly and her five boys, hated Seth with every fibre of my being he made me so angry but I laughed, I cried, I was excited throughout this book, it had a fantastic story.
If you like cowboys, an awesome story line, easy but awesome writing then you need to get yourself a copy of this book you hopefully won't be disappointed because I wasn't at all loved it loved it loved it.
5+++++++ stars for me

Leighton is returning to her roots in Bonesteel Creek, SD. After having her heart broken by the man she loved, Leighton finds her old family home available to rent through an app called RentBnB, but when she arrives she's greeted by the owner, a rude, grumpy man named River, and discovers she's been scammed. When he finds her sleeping in her car a couple of days later, he takes pity on her and offers to let her stay at the house in exchange for helping him around the farm.

Having survived an unthinkable tragedy, River is a man who has built walls around himself. Then Leighton comes into his life. She's beautiful, smart, open and honest and he tries really hard to keep her at arm's length but she manages to work her way into his heart. He's even beginning to envision a future with her until a secret from the past is revealed threatening to tear them apart.

Amazing, beautiful, emotional. Winter Renshaw is one of my favorites and this love story is why. The story tugs at every one of your heartstrings. I felt so much for these characters and all they had been through. The author made me see and feel it all with her awesome writing. I loved it.

Love when you least expect it or think you deserve it is an extra special gift. When Leighton and River's paths cross in an unusual circumstances there is no spark, there is no attraction, but there is a shimmer of kindness that manages to take root and grow into something truly special.

This story grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let you go. There are all kinds of surprises, good and not so good throughout the story that keep you interested in these characters. Leighton is looking to get away from a cheating fiance and finds herself on the front porch of her childhood home. River, the current owner of that home is a brooding, gruff cowboy who is mad at the universe for his unfortunate and tragic life. I love Leighton's determination to have River live life not just move through it. River's pain regarding his past is palpable at times and Leighton's mission of becoming his friend saves him. Their exchanges are fun, clever and engaging.

A beautiful story that celebrates the people Leighton and River have lost and treasure in their hearts while they are blessed to be given another chance at love with each other. I highly recommend reading this one!

Truly another great book filled with a smidge of light humor, emotional turn of events, and one sexy cowboy with a huge heart. Loved both River and Leighton, their story comes together when Leighton decides to revisit her childhood home (internet search of a BNB site) after a turn of events with her ex-fiance. Learning that the home she once grew up in is not a rental a property (result of an internet scam) now owned by none other than River. River and Leighton initial meeting at the farm and run in the small town due to circumstances that force Leighton to spend a night in her car only brings out more of River's generous side. He's still closed off and guarded and only offering her shelter in exchange for help on the farm. She reluctantly agrees but has no choice since spending a chunk of her savings on the "childhood rental", with not enough to buy a plane ticket return to Scottsdale, she agrees to stay and be River's extra help on the farm. Leighton's presence and River's guarded nature only brings out the curious side of her to find out more why River decides to live a lonely existence. I really love the story and the turn of event wasn't expected, it was well crafted and you'll have to read the story to find out. Another 5 star plus for this book and highly recommend for your next read.

This is a really sweet read available through Kindle Unlimited. It is told through alternating pov's and the writing is very good. The book ends at 55% and there is an additional book as a bonus which would have been nice if it wasn't the second book in a 3 book series. Fortunately the series looks to be available through Kindle Unlimited also.

This is really a second chance book for the two main characters, just with different people. Leighton finds out her boyfriend of 7 years is cheating on her right after realizing what a selfish, self centered jerk he really is. She takes off to find herself and goes back to where she grew up in S. Dakota. Her old homestead is now owned by a man named River. She paid 2 months rent online only to find out she had been scammed. He isn't very pleasant to her when she arrives. He is very curt and closed off. After finding her sleeping in her car 2 days later he offers to let her stay for a few days if she helps around the farm. This brings them together long enough for her to break through his barriers and the walls around his heart. He has suffered a great tragedy in his past and is merely existing. Its a really sweet read with a nice epilogue set 2 years in the future.

I absolutely LOVED Leighton and River's story, It is so heartbreaking but so so Beautiful
I loved how even with everything that Leighton has been through she is still so sweet and open to getting to know River
And OMG River's back story had me crying my eyes out. not just his childhood and his brother and family issues but
the loss of his wife and child OH so so sad. Of course River blames himself, If it wasnt for his best friend Molly and her husband
Guy you get the feeling that River would have given up long ago. But 5 years later when Leighton shows up on his doorstep
telling him that she had just rented his farmhouse for the summer he is stunned. Leighton comes to find out that she had been
swindled out of her money (and now has none left) when River finds her sleeping in her car behind the feed and seed he slowly starts to
open his heart and lets her come stay at the farmhouse but she has to work for her stay. This story was so great and Winter Renshaw made it so much better by using memories of her childhood in South Dakota to make it even so much better I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book

Country Nights is another fun read by Winter Renshaw! Oh, I absolutely loved Leighton and River's story in Country Nights. This story had all the feels. There was love, loss, grief, guilt, family drama, and a little mystery thrown in. Keeping everyone at a safe distance, River has been living a sheltered life by himself in the same home Leighton grew up in. When Leighton realizes that her relationship with her fiancé has come to an end, she wants to escape to the one place that holds happy memories. After an online search she sees her childhood home in South Dakota is for rent. When she lands on River's front porch, she soon realizes that she has been scammed out of her savings. After finding Leighton sleeping in her car, River can't turn her away and offers her a place to stay. Both are still healing from a broken heart, but soon form a friendship and can't deny their feelings for each other. They are finally able to open their hearts and feel like they can start a life together, but when secrets from the past come to light their love and their futures are put to the test. Great read - I recommend it.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of this book for my honest review.

I would highly recommend this book. It is a beautifully written story, filled with heart and soul. I mean this literally. Hearts full of love and hearts broken. Souls tragically damaged and put back together, piece by piece. A man so hard with a heart so soft and a woman who is putting her life back together, while healing a damaged man. Also read the authors blurb at the end, as it explains so much more.

The story is detailed but very well constructed and the characters are just perfectly suited to the storyline. There is a lot to be taken away from reading this book. Life lessons that we can all learn from. Also, while you read it, pause and imagine your memories from childhood but only think of the good ones. Yes, there are some in there, even if you don't think so. A place, a person, an event, an animal, a song or a book, just sit and remember. It's these memories that are important but are so often forgotten.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and had me thinking quite a lot. Particularly about negative stuff that is no longer important and how I value everyone/thing in my life.

I am amazed with little town romance... full of angst.. sassy.. country living with humble smiles.. humble people and great food...

Leighton who is trying to move on from old relationship.. moving back to her chilhood home never knew that those decision will open to a new life and adventure.. River is a mysterious rugged man.. sexy to the bone with few wods spoken... hardworker..with a big genuine heart...

Secret...A lot of unspeakable pain between River and Leighton... it took a lot for each of them to show how they feel... No man can go through pain like River... to be able to open himself and let alone to fall in love... its painstaking yet loving in the most genuine...

I love how Winter describe the romance... little knick knack in the small town.. how can you not loving a drive thru movie theater? Leighton being a sassy.. carefree... simple small town girl.. she belong with River.. no non sense with maserati and expensive gucci shoes can define a woman...for Leigh.. a simple cowboy boots would do just fine ;)

The romance is sexy.... hellooo sexy farmer.. with abs and tons body.. im drooling over River! ?????

I have trouble figuring out how Winter Renshaw can pull off a book full of heartache, angst, hope, twists, and a happily ever after all in a single book.

Leighton is a small town girl running back to the only place she's felt loved and secure. She's leaving a relationship of five years upon finding out that she's being cheating on. At times, people are gullible and even though the place she rents is her old childhood home, she's been scammed out of her money by someone off line. What is a girl to do? She's broke, homeless, and feeling hopeless.

River is broken, just getting through day to day, just existing. He's not looking to let anyone in his home or close to him. River eventually lets Leighton "rent" her room by helping around on the ranch. Throughout this time, they start to build a friendship. A friendship that leads to more. The plot thickens as secrets are revealed.

This book was an emotional read that is definitely worth one clicking. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review!

Once again Winter Renshaw knocked this one out the park. I loved Leighton and River. No one writes heroines like Winter does. Leighton was so real to me. I like that even though she was this city girl, she still had those country roots. She wasn’t uncomfortable getting dirty and felt at home in Bonesteel. I like how she also wasn’t that blushing girl every time she got a compliment. Oh sweet River. He has been dealt such a bad hand in life. He was so closed off I thought he would never open up to Leighton and I understand why he hardened his heart. But when he did open up..it was so worth the wait. He was so protective of Leighton and was willing to put her first. I loved the conflict in the story. I was so worried for a minute. The resolution was also realistic and didn’t seem forced. I usually hate books set in small towns but I really liked how it was portrayed in this book. I don’t think I have ever read a story by Winter that I didn’t like. I can’t tell you how much you need these in your life if you are new to her. Definitely get this one soon.

The story begins with Leighton deciding her and her fiance wanted different things. To get away she goes on line and sees that her childhood home is available for rent on a Rent-BnB site. She decides to rent it and get away from everything for a while.

When she gets there she discovers that she has been had and is out $5,000. The house is owned by a man named River McCray and he has no idea what she is talking about.

As Leighton has no money, she is forced to sleep in her car; where River finds her the next day when he goes grocery shopping. On a whim he offers her free Room and Board for working for him on the farm. Leighton hesitates at first, but then realizes what other option does she have.

As they get closer, secrets are revealed and the path to true love is put to the test.

This was a wonderful read and I didn't want it to end. I read the whole book in one day. When it was over, I was sad and wanted more.

When Leighton finds out her fiancé is cheating on her, it's the last straw to their already strained relationship. She leaves and goes back to her childhood home to get away. Only when she gets there things don't really go as planned. It starts off terrible. River is living in the home she thought she rented for sixty days. He's not kind when she explains what happened to her.
Eventually, things turn around slowly, very slowly. River's shell is hard as hell to crack, he's had a tough past. Leighton past wasn't easy either. Two broken souls that are meant to meet. They have a very tough beginning, hell and middle... Lol... There's a twist that shocks the hell out of me, so good. This book was well written, I loved everything about it. Winter's books always draw me in and I tell you I was glued from start to finish. Of course there's a HEA and I was extremely happy with it. So much happened in this book, you have to check it out. Something about this book really gave me the feels! Really drew me in and made me think about in nonstop while i was at work.
Leighton and River was a pretty unlikely couple but also the perfect couple if that makes any sense?

River has his past demons that he keeps very much in the present, he lives in his house and farm alone until Leighton shows up claiming to have rented his house for 2 months.

Leighton has had her fair share of crap days and times but she got through it but when the last one sends her packing and back to her childhood home she realises what she's been missing all along.

I absolutely loved the secondary characters - Molly and Guy in this, they really give something to the story. Rivers brother and Grant can jump off a cliff for all i care and Leightons Mother wasn't too sure about her, she didn't give me a good vibe but not that much of a bad one either.

Overall i absolutely loved this book and i hope we get the visit Leighton and River again!

This was a slow, smooth burn... Leighton flees a disastrous relationship and decides to return to her hometown, air bnb her childhood home, and essentially escape life for a bit. What she discovers is she's been scammed and a very closed off, unfriendly young farmer lives in her childhood home. River has no idea what Leighton is talking about when she shows up to stay in his house, promptly removing her from his thoughts and property. As he sees her predicament later on town he softens, allowing her to stay if she helps with chores. In the meantime Leighton meets up with old friends, and makes a few new ones, while still chipping away at the ice palace that is River.

This was a wonderfully slow burning romance about accepting the cards dealt in life, good and bad, and how to not allow the negative to define your future. Told from both River and Leightons point of views, this HEA will make anyone smile - and who doesn't want a friend like Molly?! This is my honest review of a voluntarily read ARC.

Country Nights is the first book I read by Winter Renshaw and I absolutely loved it.
It was a quick read for me and I absolutely loved Leighton and River's story. I love small town stories and I love second chances at happily every afters. If two people deserve a second chance at a life filled with happiness, friendships and love it is definitely them.

Winter pulled me in with every word. I couldn't put it down. As I was reading I could feel the chemistry she created between River and Leighton. Her secondary characters, Molly and Guy were just as amazing as her main characters. You can feel the importance if their bond to River and now Leighton. She intertwines everyone perfectly. River and Leighton’s story is in a small-town country setting. They both have tragedies in their pasts. River’s has scarred him leaving him with walls between him and everyone and everything else. Leighton’s dealing with a recent heartbreak she’s trying to leave behind her. Life brings their paths together in such a way that these two strangers are spending more time together than either of them ever expected.

Once again, Winter Renshaw does not disappoint. I loved the setting for the story having been raised in small towns myself. River’s character is one of my favorite types of heroes, gruff and outwardly unpleasant hiding a tender heart that he shows to very few. Leighton is trying to figure out the next step on her path when what she thought was going to be her future abruptly changes course. I’m always looking forward to the next release from Ms. Renshaw. Thank you for sharing your stories!

This was my first time reading Winter Renshaw and I can honestly say that I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another book from this author. Overall, I enjoyed Country Nights. Leighton is a little lost but she has this inner strength that pushes her forward. She doesn't let herself become a pushover even in her vulnerable moments. River comes off as a real jerk and he's a little hard to like at first. He's standoffish and comes off as if everyone around him is an annoyance. That being said, once he opens up, you see how much of a good heart he has. I liked the premise of the story and I thought Country Nights was written well for the most part. There were a few issues that quickly became non issues and I felt like there should have been more in regards to those situations. Specifically the situation with Leighton's ex as well as the bar owner. I think there could have been more elaboration in regards to those moments instead of it being swept under the rug.

This is a really good book, two interesting characters with lots of depth and a real page turning story.

River had the whole hot brooding alpha thing going on and Leighton was the bright spark he needed to get him out of the never ending cycle of sadness.

Leighton was fun and bubbly, she brought fun and brightness back onto the ranch. She had a really sensible head on her shoulders for her young age.

Rivers one of those guys you want in your corner, he's a caretaker and full of so much love. He's strong and dependable.

There a lot going on in this story, I was hooked from the start and didn't want to put it down. I've taken off half a star as there's a really awful scene in the book and then it's like it didn't happen. I felt like it was too important to just forget about and the repercussions should of been explored more on a personal level. That aside I really did love the story.

Wow!!! Winter Renshaw has done it again, delivering another wonderful story. In this book we get a story about a woman named Leighton who returns to her former childhood home. There she meets a sexy, gruff cowboy who now owns the home, named River. Leighton is making a break from a former situation along with some family issues. River on the other hand is complex and closed off for a reason which will be revealed later. River and Leighton share a special connection. Things will start to be revealed, will River and Leighton's blossoming love survive? This is a story about fate, love, trust, and happiness. I thought it was sexy, heart- breaking, intriguing and beautiful. I loved River and Leighton so much. The characters were strong and the writing flowed beautifully. This book was a real page turner. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic read and my favorite so far from the author.

Somewhere in the book River basically says he doesn't believe in karma. Karma may have not payed much attention to River, he believed he got what he deserved. But sometimes believing in something doesn't make it true, and not believing in something doesn't mean it's not real.
I've read lots of romances, the quick burn type that flame up like a gasoline explosion, quick to burn with the promise of happy ever after. Bull poop. If you want a romance. A real, honest to God romance...well you're not going to find it in a book. But if you want to read one that actually has a kind of forever written between the front and back covers...pick this up, and don't put it down.
Real life happens, and it does in this book. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, sometimes good things happen to bad people. Believe in one thing for sure, believe in this book.

Winter Renshaw always writes the most amazing love stories. You completely fall in love with her characters and cheer on their budding relationship. Leighton and River's story is no different. Two people with painful pasts coming together in the most unlikely of ways. Each trying to escape, only to find each other. A budding friendship becomes more.
All. The. Feels. All of them! You're angry and sad and frustrated - because lets face it. With painful pasts come painful feelings. But then..then you're smiling so much your face hurts. Your tummy is in butterflies and your heart pounds. Thats what this book does to you.

What an amazing read by Winter Renshaw about second chances with love, heartache, heartbreak, sorrow, friendship and soul mates. River is a recluse and keeps to himself after a tragedy and Leighton goes back to her family home on the pretence that she can stay there. When she is conned and meets River at the house she has no where to go and their first meeting is not so pleasant. But when River spots her sleeping in her car, he helps her and says she can stay until she gets her last pay check so she can leave. As their relationship progresses a secret long ago buried comes to light which could tear them apart forever just as they both realize they love each other.
A beautiful story of two people given the chance to love again, to heal and to look forward to a future with happiness and forgiveness along with an ending that left me misty eyed.....highly recommended.

Sometimes going home is never easy. Rekindling moments of the past Leighton journeyed back to the only place she ever considered home. After a disastrous encounter with her fiancée she finds her childhood home is available for rent. Sixty days of pure relaxation and the time to find the part of herself that has been lost. Of course all her well laid intentions never happen. She meets moody River McCray, a man that never seems to smile and has no interest in helping Leighton. Poor Leighton has a series of bad luck that makes your heart break for her. She begins working for River and slowly chisels away the pain of his past. Loved how Leighton portrayed a strong woman no mattmatter what she had to deal with and her ability to always care for someone else. Great story of finding the person you always were but lost sight of. I received an advance copy for an honest review and Winter never disappoints. Her books encompass every emotion and draw you in.

Winter Renshaw is one of my absolutely FAVORITE authors. I know I will have an emotionally gripping book from her that I will devour. She has never steered me wrong and I dont think she ever will. AMAZING story. I loved it so much, and I think you will, too. Get this book!

This is an emotional romance between River and Leighton. Leighton returns to her childhood home (now owned by River) to regroup after she caught her fiance cheating on her only to find that she has been scammed out of her life savings. River lets her stay in exchange for work around the farm. No more spoilers here. The storyline is more on the simple side with some romance tropes thrown in for good measure. The author wrote River and Leighton as such relatable characters that you're invested in their journey. The story is short so the relationship shift from friendship to love feels a bit rushed and any conflict resolution is dealt with quickly. There are some twists and challenges that test and strengthen the couple's love. Overall, it has sexual tension and chemistry, heartbreak and drama from their pasts, and engaging secondary characters.

Country Nights by Winter Renshaw
This is Leighton Hart and River McCray's story.

River doesn't smile anymore. He doesn't feel he deserves happiness. One day Leighton shows up and he winds up offering her a place to stay for helping him around the farm. Leighton has ghost of her own. They have suffered so much heartache in their lives will they be able to overcome them in order to have a second chance at love?

This is a wonderful, emotional, sensual, and heartfelt story with twists and surprises. I fell in love with River and Leighton's characters and could feel their emotions. River's name is just perfect for him. The supporting characters were a great addition to the story. I loved the description of the farm. A great read for anytime and one that I couldn't put down.

FYI, contains mature content.  I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I absolutely loved this latest book from Ms Renshaw! How can you go wrong with a brooding cowboy? One who is slightly broken by circumstances yet has a kind heart for the people around him? The characters of Lieighton and River were so captivating. you can't help but love their story. "This was a book about hope and love and how two people start off as virtual strangers, become friends and finally fall in love. The story also had a little angst and drama as well as a not so nice guy in the form of River's older brother Seth. River was taken in by Seth 's parents and Seth never liked River. I felt so bad for what both Lieghton and River have gone through in their lives before they met and I loved how they mange to come together even when faced with a misunderstanding caused by another. I loved the HEA and look forward to another fabulous read from Ms Renshaw.

**Note to Winter Renshaw** So sorry my review is late.

I loved this story and completely fell in love with Leighton and River. Leighton ends up back in her childhood town but is scammed into thinking that she is renting her childhood home for a month. River owns the house and land but knows nothing about the rental scam. He is gruff and pretty rude when we first meet him but he ends up letting her stay at the house but she has to help with the chores in exchange for room and board. They start to learn more about each other and Leighton discovers the reason for River being so gruff. She tells him why she came to town and he starts to feel protective of her. There is so much more I want to add but I don't want to leave spoilers. Read the book and fall in love with River and Leighton as they fall in love. You won't be disappointed. ** I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. **
