I read this straight through, could not put it down. The story was amazing, the characters very real and the mood wonderfully spooky. Can't wait to read more by this author! You won't regret purchasing this book.

I am really liking the way this author writes. This story holds your attention, with just the right amount of scary things happening. Not grotesque story, but scary. I can't wait to read another book from this author!

I enjoyed the way the tension builds in this novel. The main character reacts as most people would when first discovering something is amiss, the denial, the reasoning, the wishing it all away. The author takes risks with the horror elements that lesser writers would fear. The resolution was very satisfying.

I really loved the plot of this story. The introduction of evil twin was not expected at all. My favorite part, however, was the image at the end of Adrianne reading to the ghost of her great aunt. This was an excellent end to a very well told ghost story!!

This book literally made me keep reading it was so suspenseful straight from the beginning. It was well written and I believe navigated the reader nicely from one chapter to the next. I will say I started to guess the end or at least I thought I did, I was wrong!lol I was at least on the right path to figuring out part of the ending but there's so much more then I had expected. The author is so descriptive it's easy to visualize the story.

I really enjoyed the story. Scary and fast moving. I recommend it to any horror readers because it is a great twisted ghost novel that guarantees to keep you glued to the pages till you get to the end. It is my favorite novel from this author, but all his books have been really good!

I just really enjoyed the story and the narration on the audiobook; a story is good when in the course of reading or listening, you're really looking forward to be immerged again into the world that's been painted.

Five stars for suspense, and supernatural thrills. A page turner that I hated to have to put down to get some sleep before work, and couldn't wait to get back to finish the story. Possibly a little too intense for younger teens. But, over all, a very satisfying read.

The Haunting of Ashburn House was thrilling. It kept my interest all the way through, and truly scared me in places. The ending was a complete twist on what I believed all the way through, and I was surprised, and gratified. For a good horror thrill, this is a must-read.

Honestly, I never had been a fan of ghost stories and scared my socks off when watching a horror movie, but Darcy Coates pulled me right in when I tried my first suspense novel & now I am hooked! It'd turn a non believer into one for sure and her genius in unfolding a story through words is to be applauded!

I like the author but was very disappointed in this book. The BIGGEST problem was how Edith could have been an aunt or great aunt since one needs a sibling to produce a child. Edith's family was killed and she was raised by grandparents. It wasn't until the very end of the book that a brother was mentioned in one sentence in a letter. Where was the brother all this time? The villagers talk about Edith's family being murdered but no one mentions a surviving brother.

I didn't like Adrienne at all. She's eating about 500 calories a day but doesn't seems affected by this. She's never hungry and seems prefectly content to exist on tea. Why doesn't she try to find a part time job? The villagers are very friendly and she's always walking into town. Or she could try selling some of the antiques to raise money for food and internet since she doesn't seem particularly interested in the furnishings.

I was also annoyed by the fact that Adrienne is trying to solve the mystery of the house but never looks through any of the many boxes in the house for diaries, pictures, documents, etc. Anything to give her some clues.

Very annoying book.

I mostly read true hauntings and find that modern ghost stories, with the foul language and unnecessary sex scenes, just aren't for me. But this book is a real treasure. Although set in modern times, it has enough Victorian references to give it a gothic feel. It is quite atmospheric with just enough foreshadowing to keep the reader on the edge of her seat. And being a pet lover, I absolutely love the relationship between Addy and Wolfgang. The book is packed with mystery: why no mirrors? Why the graveyard for one and what's with that odd phrase on the tombstone? And my favorite: why burn a candle every Friday? And the family portrait gallery is extremely well done-those images will stay with me for a long time. If you love spooky, atmospheric ghost stories that lure you in and then try to scare you to death, this is a must read.

A young woman inherits a strange old house from a great aunt, a reclusive person, she never knew. And, of course, it is supposedly haunted.

The writing in this book started out by impressing me as being somewhat stilted. It just didn't flow very well. Well, okay, I'll press on. And the book was spooky in the beginning. There was a good sense of suspense, of frightening things that will be revealed. Unforunately, as things got more grisly, they became less suspenseful and less frightening. Lots of gore, not much else.

This book could have used some editing help, too. When the protagonist, Addy, first comes to the house, a house that has been empty for three month, she hears the grandfather clock chime. That must be one heck of a grandfather clock to keep running for three months without winding.

And “The sun was seconds away from setting, and the moon and a thousand pinpricks of starlight illuminated the woods outside her house.” Really? The sun hasn't quite set but you can see thousands of stars? Uh-uh.

While this book, despite some rather amateurish phrasing, had some potential, it just got ridiculous. Fairly satisfying ending, but not an especially good story overall.

I read this as an e-book through my Kindle Unlimited membership.

Although there was some parts of the book that was a bit far fetched, I stilled enjoyed it. The author could have made this story longer without it being drawn out and at times I expected a bit more but still it was a good plot and the ending was good. I would definitely read another book by this author. I gave it 5 stars because the small items I mentioned are just my thoughts and it would not be fair to the author as how it was written was well done.

This was a great and exciting old fashioned ghost story. Honestly, I have been searching for a really good ghost story for a very long time, and I found it here! If you like creepy, interesting scary stuff, you MUST read this book.

I went into this book not really expecting a good story but desperate for a ghost story of any kind to get me into the Halloween mood. I was very creeped out while reading about poor Adrienne’s trials and errors with the house and town. I actually became stressed while reading about how isolated and trapped she was becoming. I did not expect the haunting to be so complicated, and grew even more stressed at the fate of Adrianne and her beloved cat. (We all know what usually happens to animals in horror movies/books). This book read like a fast paced horror movie with tons of jump scares, but it worked and was very entertaining. The ending might seem cheesy but I was fine with it. I needed some kind of resolution to her situation and fast. I mean at one point I was pacing the room while reading and yelled at my Kindle, “Hasn’t Adrienne been though enough already!!”
I will check out more from this author for the rest of the Halloween season!

The Haunting of Ashburn House was cute. It wasn't a great read, but it was very good- for a couple of reasons. It's written well and made to be enjoyed. but the thoughts of Adrienne cracked me up from start to finish. My favorite part was when she was anxious to have people to talk to her; her psyche whispering: "Friend" overtime something positive took place or was said. I loved it!

Though the story in itself is amazing, I didn't like Addy's lack of making Ashburn hers. She inherited a humongous house and she didn't really care for it or decorate. She talked about how grubby the windows were, but she never cleaned them. She had TONS of books to read, but did she read any? Did she check to see if any were a diary.... Nope! She had so much opportunity to discover thing from Aunt Edith, but she didn't take advantage of any of them. There were a few conflicts within the story, like the story is American, but she stated distance in kilometers- not a big deal, but off. Also, Also, she only freaking ate Cup O' Noodles... is that a real thing? People really eat that for lunch and dinner? Anyway...

This is undoubtedly one of the better books Ms. Coates has written. The ending is perfect both for the satisfaction of closure and the potential for future stories with the same characters - and it imparts a wonderful feeling of happiness after such tension and terror. Coates has proven herself, once again, the queen of horror!

Very well written, true heart in your throat horror, with a satisfying ending. This was my first Darcy Coates novel, and there will be many more to come. Thanks, Darcy, for telling a good yarn, and telling it well. While I wouldn't normally read horror, I'm so captivated by how this story was done, I know I will be looking at this style as addictive.

I've fallen in with Darcy Coated haunted house books. Each one involves a strong woman lead. This one is a pure enjoyment to read. This book is great for those nights where you wanna just curl up in a blanket and read something creepy.

I am in love with everything Darcy Coates writes! His books are amazing and hold your interest tight until the very last page. His detailed descriptions bring the book to life like I am watching a movie. There are no loose ends, everything tires together perfectly. I am never disappointed and can't wait for another!!
