This world is unique and fascinating. The characters live, breathe and evolve for you. I own a library of books and this author is refreshing. I'm so delighted to find this world she's created. You need to get through at least two books to find the rhythm and pace, which I find delightful because too many authors write in a way that screams template. That said, the first book was a breath of fresh air and the second just built on everything. Hmmm more please! Read one and interest is there, read two and you're a disciple. If you've read her other books, enough said.

First, let me say that I absolutely love Anne Bishop, the Black Jewels books. WRITTEN IN RED was wonderful and I never thought I would like a series by her as much as Black Jewels. I read Murder of Crows in one sitting. I had made time in order to do so. While, it was a great sequel and I enjoyed the new characters; there were a couple of things that bothered me.

1. B/c it is a sequel, there were descriptions in the book made for a reader that had not read the first book. It was annoying and subtlety placed. I know that is probably a publishing thing, but sometimes I think just let a new reader get the first book.

2. Another minor irritation was one of the plot points....SPOILER ALERT....I WILL TRY TO BE AS GENERAL AS POSSIBLE........the whole Meg gets so agitated that she has to cut no matter what/no matter how she hurts herself...didn't make sense to me at all. The danger was not any greater than the things that happened in the first book, yet she was not that out of control.

Overall though, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book.

Great follow-up to the first book in this fascinating series. Have them all in hard copy and am getting them in my kindle too. Wonderful stories, characters you come to love. Very, very highly recommended.
Twilight's Dawn (The Black Jewels Trilogy Book 9) :: Heir to the Shadows (Black Jewels, Book 2) :: Lake Silence (World of the Others, The) :: The Invisible Ring (Black Jewels, Book 4) :: Dreams Made Flesh (Black Jewels, Book 5)

I don't completely understand why I love this story so much, I just know I do. I do know I adore the relationship developing between Meg and Simon. I am also very enchanted by the inherent innocence in even the most deadly Other. There is deadly action but that isn't what appeals so much. It really is the way both sides try to find a way to coexist humanely. The irony of course is that although the Others are more deadly , they are more honest and straightforward than the humans.

This book develops the characters to the extent that you can feel their emotions. The story of Meg a girl that is not completely human but is not a Other. Her struggle to survive, her interaction with anew life and new species moves all of us to question what is really Right! Romance is in the air but that is not all the sniffing is about. Lots of action, lots of surprises, great read!

Love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't sure how I would like the book, but thoroughly enjoyed how Meg has made friends even with the most feared of "others" living in Lakeside Courtyard. She has endeared herself to all of the residents without really trying. I like to try and figure out what her visions are before reading the answer...sometimes I'm right, sometimes not.

Both books 1 and 2 end with thrilling suspense and then reso!ution. I look forward to the final episode of book 3. The fanciful concepts have a new slant, such as werewolves and vampires ru!ing the natural world together apart from most humans.

I just read this, the second book in this series, and I am not disappointed! Happy that there are two more books. The characters have become new friends that I enjoy reading about and I look forward to continuing the series. I encourage you, without hesitation, read these books. But beware ... you won't want to put them down!!

This book Is the second book in Anne Bishops' latest fantasy series . I enjoyed the first book so much ( Written In Red ) I paid for this one rather than wait for it at the digital library...worth not waiting for sure! But then again, have thoroughly enjoyed every Anne Bishop book ever written...if you read fantasy books you will appreciate the fresh approach and original storylines as well as " the human touch" in these books.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked Meg Corbyn from the initial book, and was quite fascinated by the Cassandra Sanguine storyline; the world build around that is excellent. I'm not as much of a fan of the fact that everyone loves Meg - even though I really enjoy the character - and I think that was mitigated in this book by learning more about what her life was like as a CS, and how they came into existence. I loved the emotion of the story, how we dig into several of the supporting characters, and how it all builds. There are clearly elements planted for the third book, and I can't wait to experience those. I'm looking forward to the book three.

This series is AMAZING! I loved the first book, and was not disappointed in the second. I have read the third installment, and am sad that we have to wait for the next ones. This is a series that is original, has great character development, has humor as well as serious moments, action, and drama. This book and series has it all. I love series. Give it a try

I really like the alternate reality that the author has created and I enjoy the characters. I hope that it doesn't turn into a typical romance novel where there is a tiresome amount of "will they get together or won't they" . Currently the series has great character development, an unusual and interesting plot and world that the characters inhabit and action. I didn't want to put the book down but was conflicted because I didn't want the book to end!

While not as enthralling as Written in Red, which introduced us to Namid and all her creatures, Murder of Crows returns the reader to the world of Lakeside and its Courtyard. Simon and Meg are struggling with the changes in their relationship, which is infinitely confusing to both parties, humans are struggling to recover from "the Storm of the Century" and the inevitable realization that they are not the dominant force in existence; reacting with fear and gross stupidity. One of the humans working for the Courtyard leaves while another joins, searching for safety. The reader is introduced to the Intuit folk and The Controller is neutralized. Permanently. Ms Bishop's second book featuring The Others continues the lives of the Characters we met and fell in love with without advancing the story too far.

Sequel to 'Written in Red'. This is seriously wonderful. I love the originality of this series and I can't wait to read the next one when it comes out. This once again follows Meg and her life in the courtyard. It uncovers details about her past and that of the blood prophets. With war between the Others and humans, brewing it's up to Meg and her friends to try keep the peace. Can Meg live a life away from the prison she grew up in? Or will she perish, one cut at a time?

Anne Bishop is a wonderful author. I have loved her other books and this one is no exception. She writes dark fantasy but her characters are always loveable. This is the second book in this series (the first being Written in Red) and continues the story of Meg. In this particular novel The Others discover more about Meg's particular type of human and tensions between the Others and the humans of Thaisia run high. A great second novel in the series and leaves you wanting much more!

Anne's story continues a few weeks after 'Written in Blood' which continues the themes setup in Written. We have a brilliant expansion, learning more about the different races and their inter-relationships as well as a greater part of Namid's glorious world. Highly recommend to anyone who loves Anne's work, or those who like dark explorations of aspects of humanity, told with a blend of horror, surprise, and humour.

Great characters, great story, great points of view, compelling story. I was in a reading rut and needed something paranormal with a strong female lead...this fit the bill pretty well; great secondary characters. The series continues to be great and reveals new and interesting inhabitants of this world. I highly recommend.

Wow! Wondering if there will be a third book, and where will it lead. I'm really interested in this story. The earth and nature are literally fighting back against humans and their abuse. Can both exist or coexist peaceably? Of course, not all humans are bad, but there is always an arrogance. I'm cheering for the others to prevail and continue to tolerate Meg's human pack.

Although I enjoyed reading this book, the sequel to Written in Red, I feel like it was missing something. After some reflection, I think it's missing a proper villain. The two main choices for this role are both so easily defeated by the Others that even the effort spent using prophecy to find and identify them seems minimal. These books needed a bad guy whose defeat was uncertain instead of scarecrow villains who succumb easily to teeth and claw.

Otherwise, character development was decent and the overall storyline intriguing. I enjoyed reading about Meg and Simon again, and watching their relationship evolve.

When I first bought this, I hesitated to read it. I was worried it would not be up the the quality of the first one, written In Blood. I did not think it was possible to be able to match the first one. I was wrong, very wrong. This book picked up where Written In Blood ended, and the excitement never let up. We were invited in to a world so like ours, and so not. More characters, and also more character development. Read this book, read this series, you won't be sorry you did.

Anne Bishop comes up with another winner. This is her latest in the "others" series.
You like vampire, shape shifters of a variety of types and pure "elemental" characters? This book has got them. You like mystery and detective work? This book has it. Good, solid fantasy.

The second book ties up serious loose ends, and yes you do need to read the first one before this
one. Both are great. I feel Sam didn't get enough Meg time but that is my only complaint. Skippy
good new character. Visiting Other dignitaries seeing Meg treed by a mouse - priceless. If the books were shorter, should have been one book. Helen

As usual, Anne Bishops amazing story-telling ability left me bleary eyed and grumpy at work, because I had to read 'just one more chapter' before going to sleep! I didn't think I could like any series as much as The Black Jewels, but the Others is getting pretty close. I only wish she could write faster because I hate waiting around for a year for her next masterpiece!

Once again, Anne Bishop took me on a roller coaster ride with lots of thrills. All these new characters with their wonderful shifty ways. What more can a girl ask for. Looking forward to reading more about Meg and Simon...love is in the air?

Lots of new threads to keep your interest piqued while all the familiar characters continue to develop in interesting ways. New characters are also introduced and you get more of a feel for the the broader countryside outside of just the local town. Nicely paced, I don't recall a single part that struck me as slow. Great stuff.

Darker than the first, this book by Ms Bishop continues the story of life on an alternate earth. I was fully engrossed & the tension built very well. I would like it to have been a little longer to add in some additional detail about the meetings between the terre indigenes, but overall, a great read!
