Interesting story, but confusing. The story of the murder Rosa Mary Dean gets lost in the stories of Uncle Percy, and of Henry and his Dad. Too many key characters to try to follow and the story goes back and forth in time making it very hard to follow.

A book about characters with great flaws that seem to invade everyone's life to make each as miserable as possible.
Very slow moving in terms of the story of the murder of the young woman and who killed her and why. That story appears on the
last few pages of the book while in between the reader is assaulted by a police chief who seems to be the greatest felon in the
town, his poor brother who is schizophrenic but lovable (probably the best character in the whole book and might have been a good book told
from his prospective), and the teller of the story, the son of the police chief. This young man is much more concerned with his paper route, his
girlfriend, and football to tell a good story. The rambling and back and forth of the story line loses the reader, at least this one.

Good story, but a little tedious and hard to follow the flashing back and forth. Maybe it was me -- I read the book over a couple of weeks in bits and pieces rather than in longer, more continuous sittings, but that's how my life works right now.

This book was ridiculous. I put it down having only made it through about half.
I picked it up because it was recommended for people who enjoyed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (which I LOVED) and To Kill A Mockingbird (Pulitzer Prize winning...), this book resembled neither.
It was slow, confusing and there were so many typos in the book, I found myself growing angry with the editor/author that they felt this book was ready for distribution.
I did NOT finish it because I could not even bring myself to care about the outcome. I am not a person to put a book down, I also read quickly and felt this was a waste of time in which I could have read 1-2 real books.

I enjoyed reading "Bottomland", for the most part but the book continually jumped around in time which made it difficult to follow. Additionally, there was a subplot throughout the book the purpose of which I'm still unsure. If the author had stuck to the main plot, then I think the jumping around in time would've been easier to follow, As it was written, I felt like I was reading two books that involved some of the same characters but had little to do with each other.
