We used this walking tour guide for our self guided tour of the squares for our group (about 15 people). It was helpful orienting everyone to the city, as well as provided us with simple, useful information about what we were seeing.

After being in Savannah and driving through the city with a fabulous step on guiide, and taking the evening ghost walk tour with our group, I ordered this guide to look deeper into their information. It confrimed everything they told our group and then some. Excellent guide, well written.

I am rather handicapped, so used this book more for information than a walking tour. I was amazed how large the areas are and how many blocks would be on each tour. However, for those who can walk distances, I think it was divided into walking tours that made sense and would be interesting.

We liked having this resource as we walked the city. We did three of the four tours listed in the book. It helped to understand what we were experiencing, though my husband tired of looking at a location only to hear of what used to be located on that spot in the past. Harder to appreciate what had been lost and replaced in historical buildings and they were frequent. The tip of the echo chamber on River Street was fabulous!! We encountered young teens skateboarding the spot who did not know anything about this treasure!! So fun to know the inside scoop! This guide is sold in several places in Savannah. So if you order this... put your name on it as I was questioned about paying again at a shop on River Street. She finally believed I had bought it on the store, but it took a bit of convincing. Just FYI.

If you are visiting Savannah, I definitely recommend using this as your guide to the historic downtown area of Savannah. The book is very informative without overwhelming you with too much information that you cannot comprehend it all. I live in Savannah and I keep this book in my Guest Room. When I have visitors stay with us, they always comment on the book and want to use it while they are visiting the downtown area! The price is great and the pictures are beautiful!

Unfortunately, I did not have access the guide until the day before I left Savannah and I wish I had had a copy on the days when I was actually wandering aroung the historic district and the squares. The guide provided an easily doable traverse of the more interesting places in the city and gave pertinent information about each stop along the way. I found it particularly helpful when I got home and was attempting to label the many pictures I had taken. The excellent photos in the book made it easy to identify a particular landmark as well as providing interesting information about it. The historical photos were also great, in that they allowed me to see what some of the buildings had looked like in their original forms. I would highly recommend this to anyone going to Savannah for the first time. It may even be helpful for those familiar with the town. On one of my days in the city, we went on a short walking tour with a friend who is a Savannah native and the guidebook was able to clarify things that he was not aware of.

In The Savannah Walking Tour & Guidebook, Mr. Bland both demystifies Savannah's rich history while managing to deepen our romance with the its past. Written both to inform and illustrate Savannah's bounty, he also infuses humor with a sense of mystery. Hear your own voice echo back to you on the riverfront square while trusting the author's ice cream temptation across the cobblestones! Whether you simply want to take a virtual journey to Savannah or you will actually walk the oak-shaded streets, be certain to follow in the author's footsteps!

As someone who is from Savannah, I think this book is a must have. Anytime I have guests in from out of town, this book is perfect. If provides just enough information without overwhelming me with "where to begin". It's a great way to spend a day with friends and family without paying alot of money for guided tours while still touring the city. I recommend this book to everyone either visiting Savannah or already lving in Savannah.

This book has a brief history of Savannah. It has pictures of the monuments and main buildings of downtown. The tours suggested in the book are great for anyone living or visiting the city. Plus, you can't beat the price.

This book is well written and organized, splitting Savannah into 4 easily manageable tours that focus on different themes. Each stop has a great photo (or in many cases historical and current photos), along with a concise history of the location. It is easy to follow and a great souvenir of your visit to the "hostess city of the south."

This is by far the most informative walking tour book I have ever read. It is very well written. I would highly suggest it for those touring Savannah or even residents who are not familiar with the rich history of this great city.
