This book wasn't as expected. Found some typo errors. I should have researched what kind of dinner mix book this was. Ingredients are impractical for me. Dried carrots, dried green beans, dried sweet corn, dried mushrooms, dehydrated eggs, dried celery..... Jars require a vacuum sealer which can be found at DinnerIsInTheJar.com. This would be for a long time, shelf life, jar type recipe book.

I'm new to dehydytating and was pleasantly surprised as to how you can combine your dried items into a jar for a meal. Not only are the Jars are beautiful to look at on the shelf and re-hydrating is simple.

I bought this book with another food storage-type book. It seems to have some really good recipes in it, although I haven't had the time to try any of them yet. It also has some recipes for dry mixes and things like that, which also look good. The only complaint is that some of them call for some kind of canned meat, such as hamburger or chicken, which is something that I don't have. Other than that, it seems to be a great book.

I bought this book thinking that it would have lots of recipes and pictures with the instructions. However, I paid $15 for this book. There are only pictures on the first page and only 30 simple recipes. I think that the book is over-priced based on its contents.

I was very disappointed when this book arrived. The only thing about the book that looks professional is the cover. The cover is very impressive, but the rest of the book looks like something put together by a school child with a laptop computer, and there are only 30 recipes in the entire book. If I'd had the opportunity to actually see this book before purchasing it, I would never have bought it at this price. Probably not at any price. At $15, that is about three times what it's worth.

I'm sure I'll get something useful from this book, and will probably make use of some of the recipes, but I was expecting much more.

It's admirable that a young mother is taking the initiative do something like this, but I feel like I've been ripped off.

Don't waste your money on this thing.

This is a process that works for this author. Essentially she uses her food storage to make dinners in jars.

Those that have food storage will agree that it often comes in bulk lots- number ten cans, large mylar bags, 10lbs burlap sacks. Those that rotate through their food storage often have to account for this in their daily cooking.
For example; if you open a number ten can of macaroni for one meal, you either have to plan another meal or two with macaroni or do something to store the rest of the macaroni.

The point of this is to make meals out of the bulk packages you have and put them into something easier to store in a meal. This way if you make a dish with macaroni, you only have to make one dish. The rest of the macaroni from a number ten can will be spread out into other jars for other meals that you can eat at other times. The cover of this book shows canning jars but she also includes directions for using mylar bags as well.

So, as someone who has food storage I'm intriqued by this cooking/storage method. I think there is some merit to the idea.

However, as others have commented, this is not one jar. It is often two jars, meat from your freezer and a can of something that you then mix up with water to make a casserole (or enchiladas or pizza or something).

I think that this lady has found a method that works for her and she has been willing to share it with the recipes she has developed. I think that this is a great starting point for developing your own method of using your food storage, rotating food storage, cooking with food storage etc.

The recipes seemed fine. I have not tried any yet. I'm still mulling over how I plan to impliment this method in a way that will work best for my family.

If you are looking for a cookbook that will have every day 'stuff' that is easy to find, this may not be the cookbook for you. This works on the premise that you have cheese powder, etc... If you have food storage in powder form and you want to find a way to better utilize it and rotate it; this may be a great book to start with as you find your own method.

So read the reviews carefully and think about what you want a cookbook about dinner in jars to do before you purchase. IO would say that I think in the end this is going to be a very useful cookbook for my family.

Enjoy.

I have eaten more than half of these meals prepared from the recipes listed in this book, and must say they sure make eating food storage much better than you might expect. The meals really are good when you consider it is mostly reconstituted food. In fact, I live on a sail boat and utilize the ingredients and recipes in this book quite often as we journey from across seas. We eat well and appreciate the cooking education we received from this book. Quick, easy, and good tasting from food storage products is very important for us. Hope you get a chance to read & utilize this book for yourself.

I have over forty cookbooks, most supposedly geared for using long term food storage. Unfortunately, most use many fresh ingredients which may not be available. That leaves a couple of options, convert the fresh ingredients into dried ones or don't use the recipe. The great thing about this book is that it uses all long term food storage items. In addition to that the instructions are easy to follow and the food tastes great. I made up a couple of the dishes and shared them with a group of 50 people. They all loved them. This book embraces a whole new way of meal planning. Thank you! I can't wait to share this with my friends and family.

Every recipe requires items outside of the jar. Not what I was looking for, I want dinner IN the jar like the tittle eludes. Add-on ingredients are on each recipe. I do like the instruction print outs that are included but will not make any of these Jars.

Many organizations and institutions encourage you to accumulate long term food storage ingredients, but leave you at a loss of what to do with it. This book not only answers the question: "Now that I have all of this food storage, what do I do with it?," it provides a simplistic approach to making fabulous meals using common food storage items. I have tried almost every recipe in this book and haven't found one yet I don't like or that was difficult to make.

I love this cookbook because the author takes the guesswork out of using dehydrated or freeze-dried ingredients in these 30 recipes. I am looking for her to make a follow-up so I can purchase it too! I give this book out as a gift ALL the time! I will buying more soon so I can keep sharing the joy of mylar (or mason jar) pre-made meals!!! THANKS, Kathy, for making life easier for me!!!

I thoroughly enjoy this book. It is very well organized and easy to use. I particularly like the charts that allow you to choose to create 30, 60 or 90 meals ahead. The recipe for Chili is fabulous and has replaced the canned chili we used to purchase as our favorite!
