I absolutely LOVE this book. The writing- it's just so intimate and personal, as if you're hearing the story in person from a good friend. And the drawings and photos are just so lovely. You will laugh out loud often. I love to read it in the mornings with my tea. Have bought more as gifts for close friends. What a great gift! What a great book!

I absolutely adored this book. I am on my second reading. It's THAT good! If you enjoy Susan's drawings, they are plentiful and lovely. If you love her writing, it is wonderful. If you are an anglophile, then you NEED this book. She loves England and all things English. Being of English descent myself, I found her affection for my homeland's gardens and people ever so ducky. This is a true gem of a book. I will read it dozens of times before my time is done on this good earth.

I dearly loved every page of this book written rather like a diary.....wonderful way to enjoy someone else's travels - like you were there going along with the author. Wonderful! Took me to places in England I had never been (behind of the tourist scene)....passed it on to a dear friend who enjoyed it also.

This is a beautifully written, charming book. Really brings the British countryside to life. I love the way it is written in hand writing rather than typed. Very nice illustrations and pictures throughout. Anyone who is crossing on the Queen Mary 2 for a trip to England (like me) needs to read this!

An amazing travelogue that makes you feel like you are traveling right along with Susan Branch and her husband through the small villages of England, stopping at pubs for a cup of tea on a rainy day, visiting historic and literary landmarks, walking through beautiful gardens. Susan's photos and sketches add so much to the story. This book put England much higher on my places I want to visit. I hope to take a trip just like this! This book is one of my favorite books every! I loved it!

I have always enjoyed Susan Branch's cookbooks and her philosophy on life. She is uplifting, happy, fun, and if we lived closer, she would definitely fit in with my group of friends.
This book is simply wonderful. I purchased it before Susan completed writing it and I read it very quickly after that nice mailman delivered it and I just loved it. Couldn't put it down. I have traveled in England a few times and I love the people, the houses, the history, their life, but I have never crossed the ocean in a huge ship, and the places Susan visited were similar to where I went, but new and different. I loved her descriptions and learned so much through her brief history of the places she visited. Susan's drawings add such charm to the book. The photos help tell her story. Susan loves her husband after 25 years and I love mine after 44. This book is so positive and such a lovely reminder that the simple things in life are really what matters; a cup of tea,
a warm scone, a little something to knit, a walk in a world that is appreciated. This book has a special place on my shelf and I just ordered 5 more copies because I want to share my joy with some of my best friends. I'm sure I'll order more. It is a gift. Thank you Susan!

Gorgeous book! Handwritten, with all sorts of information not only on biographies and the English countryside but many other tidbits ... from tea to recipes to decorating inspiration. You read it and want to travel to England and visit Hilltop (Beatrix Potter) and Charleston (Bloomsbury Group), but also get creative yourself. Wonderful book. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Stow away with Susan & Joe on their dreamy Atlantic crossing to England aboard the Queen Mary II, wander alongside them through the cozy hill and dales of the English countryside, stopping by local pubs for tea and Sunday roast. The lovingly handwritten font is surrounded with their personal photos and Susan's artfully charming watercolors of footpaths, castles, sheep, villages and hedgerows. Whimsical gardens and Susan's fantastical journal will make you feel like a guest on their idyllic 2 month journey!

Susan Branch has never created anything that I didn't love but her illustrated trip to England and around the countryside tops them all. I savoured every page and experience and though I finished reading this book a couple of months ago, I'm ready to start from the beginning and read it again. A Fine Romance is a dream trip in so many ways.

I loved every minute of A Fine Romance! My husband and I were planning a trip to England and I used Ms Branch's itinerary to help plan my own. I am now a complete Anglophile thanks to her suggestions and my own experiences in this beautiful country.

The book arrived the day before Mother's Day here in New Zealand. My husband gave it to me with my beautiful Mother's Day breakfast (in bed!) and from the minute I turned the first page, I was entranced and pulled in to a warm world full of all the good and positive things in life. Susan has a way of communicating her zest for life, reading and travel, compassion for others and love of all things to do with a warm and loving home. I love her blog too. Buy the book, it is beautiful. I can't wait for the re-print of her Autumn Book.

charming, compelling, especially if you have visited Britain and Martha's Vineyard. The script, drawings, and photos along with the ribbon to mark one's place make it appear more like a diary or scrapbook than a novel. Loved it completely and read it quickly, am now rereading it.
