I am reading my way through the John Sandford Prey series and they are very good books. I would say that David Baldacci and others are better but Sandford is still a great writer, it is a great series and great writing.

I am an ardent John Sandford fan. I recently purchased and read the complete Prey series and then the complete Flowers series in order, and I'm only sorry I'll have to wait for the next book in both series. Sandford is a novelist with the rare ability to carry over characters and plot elements with complete believabiity while allowing both to develop in interesting, unexpected but natural ways - the only other "serial" novelist who does this nearly as well is Anthony Trollope, and he avoids murders. I re-read these books with pleasure as great or greater than the first reading because the fast-paced narrative and unexpected plot developments pulls you to read fast the first time; the second or third you can pay attention to atmosphere (he's great on significant landscape detail), character growth, and situation development. Sandford writes like a real novelist, not like someone trying to impress academia with his literary exclusivity.

Though not Sandford's best book, it was certainly very, very good. Let's put it this way; I'm so hooked on the Lucas Davenport character, and the way Sandford moves him along, when I finish one book, I can't wait for the next!
Storm Prey (A Prey Novel) :: The Hanged Man's Song (Kidd Book 4) :: Dark of the Moon (A Virgil Flowers Novel) :: Uncaged (Singular Menace) :: Outrage (The Singular Menace, 2)

Another in the good reading Lucas Davenport mystery novels. This book is a good example of the depth of research that John Sanford puts into his work. The book keeps you interested in Lucas, How he met his ultimate wife,Weather, and the storyline of catching up with some of the deranged people in a small village who are out of control and no longer living in reality.

As usual, outstanding plot. The character of Davenport is so nuanced it makes every plot rich with possibility. Your imagination works overtime to create even more scenarios than the book offers, thereby enhancing the readers joy.

I collect John Sandford books, written about his Lucas Davenport character, in hard copy version for my personal library. I was lucky enough to find Winter Prey, one of my favorite books in that series, through the DC Goodwill. I got it at a reasonable price, in good condition and received it in a timely fashion. I am very pleased with my "find". I would recommend purchasing used books from the DC Goodwill.
