Katie Welker is almost ten years old. For most of her life she's lived with her grandma, but when grandma passes, Katie is collected by her mother. Katie struggles to live with a mother she doesn't really know in a new apartment and a new city. All her life, Katie has felt alone. She is always labeled the strange girl with the silver eyes. Whenever there's trouble people look her way, and even though she can make things happen just by thinking about them, she's not behind everything out there that goes wrong!

When Mr. C moves into their apartment building things take a turn for the worse. He questions all the neighbors about Katie and seems to be digging into her past. She even overhears him commenting that Katie might be responsible for her own grandma's death!

Terrified, Katie begins to seek out others like herself, others with silver eyes. She finds out her mother once worked at a pharmaceutical company and that one of the drugs they made was pulled from production. Further digging reveals four women, including her mom, all got pregnant while working there. Katie is determined to find out the other children and prove that she did not kill her grandma!

My Thoughts-
This is a nice middle grade read with a fun sci-fi twist. Katie is a normal kid, it's just that she has the power of telekinesis. There is a great mystery with the pharmaceutical company and the three other children born with silver eyes. The tension is there with Mr. C and his lurking ways and there is a real fear that he will capture Katie and she will never be seen again. The author does a great job pulling the young reader into the story and then stretching out the mystery. It is not to scary a mystery, so it is okay for young readers. Nice cover too! A girl with silver eyes and an apple floating just above her fingertips. 4 stars!

Predictable. Annoyed at all the eavesdropping, spying on her mother, going behind her mother's back to contact these people after rummaging through her mother's personal items (which no one even calls Katie on), hurting people physically as recompense for teasing them or others (hurt ankle, bloody nose, bloody mouth, bloody hand, cans of food hitting their head), hollow complaints about not fitting in or being accepted after hurting people or doing unusual things in front of them, the creepiness of the school Mr. C talks about (I began to have visions of River Tam from "Firefly"), and involving themselves in others' business yet complaining about how no one respects their privacy (very reminiscent of Harriet the Spy--see my review on that, if interested). Also, there's the unexplained return of Nathan at the end. I guess other people see something in this book that I don't. I could see how a teenager might like it, but how any adult could read it and like it is a mystery to me.

I agree with the reader from Florida wholeheartedly! I loved this book when i first found it in my 4th grade classroom "library". I took it home, and never gave it back. Of course, my copy had a girl with chin length hair with her arms crossed and her body turned to the side, and she was in front of a park....but anyway I don't have it anymore:( I think this book is a wonderful choice for young people. I also must add that the Richard Peck series about Blossom Culp is awesome as well (I read it at age 12 and wrote to Mr. Peck who was kind enough to answer me, and all of my subsequent letters to him. He even sent me an autographed copy of his first book because I had a hard time finding it. What a sweet man:)The Girl With the Silver Eyes is adventurous, fun, a great story, please give it to your kids to read, or read it to them. :)

The Girl with the Silver Eyes

By: Willo Davis Roberts

The Girl with the Silver Eyes is about a girl named Katie. She has no friends because of her unusual eyes. She not only has silver eyes, she can also make things float with her mind. But then, she gets accused for doing something she would never even think about doing in her life!

I think this book gets 3 stars out of 5 in rating, because of all the suspense and drama that happens throughout the book. An example of suspense and drama in the book is when she was wondering if they would lock her up for her abilities. "If only I had someone to talk to, someone like my father. I don't think he'd let them lock me up, but I don't know where he is..."

Katie is different from her peers; she has silver eyes, can move things with her mind, and can even read the minds of animals. But she's also a 10 year old girl, and she is beset by the usual problems of fitting in with the other kids, and relating to her mother. But her life takes a turn for the worse when a mysterious man starts asking questions about her. She is eventually forced to strike out into the world in an attempt to learn more about herself, and to help herself deal with the special pressures she must face.

The Good and the Bad:

This is a great book, not least of all because the premise is incredible. Every ten year old dreams of having superpowers, and this book inserts that exciting proposition into a realistic background that is more typical of young adult reading. As a child, I read this book again and again, and even remember having dreams in my adult life that are related to the imagery in the book. The writing is clean and engaging, and allows us to fully enjoy the fascinating story as it unfolds.

In this book the main character, Katie, has some things that are different about her but not everything about her is weird. She has peculiar eyes. They are silver. Katie seems to have no friends that's because the kids at school don't like her because they say "When Katie's around weird stuff goes on". Now all of the kid's don't know that Katie's silver eyes can do things. Katie's eyes can help her move things by thinking about them. But no one knows this. The author Willo Roberts is very talented because his book is wonderful and he puts tons of detail in it and he doesn't seem to miss anything. I personally think that 4th and up can read this. If you can I advise you to get this book and read it!

Girl with Silver Eyes
Most children have blue, green, and brown eyes. All accept Katie Welker . Katie is a normal 12-year-old girl although she has silver eyes and can levitate objects with her mind. When Katie is accused of her grandmother's death everyone thinks she's weird. She knows she is different but she never meant to hurt any one. Willo Davis is trying to show you how everybody has a unique nack about him or her.
But Was Katie's the true cause of her grandmother's death? Living in a big city is hard for Katie and she's all alone well, her moms always at work and she has no friends. Until she meats three kids with weird power like hers.
Willo Davis Roberts grew up in Michigan and is now currently living in Washington state with her husband David, whom is also a author and photographer. As a mother of eight, and grandmother of twelve, I would say she knows what the people want to read.

This book was a childhood favorite of mine, and one which is still on my bookshelf today (and will always be). It explores in a very human way, and from the realistic viewpoint of a young girl, the wonders and prices of possessing telekinetic power. My only complaint is just as it was getting REALLY good the book ended. I wish there was a sequel. If you like this book, you should also like The Girl Who Owned a City by O.T. Nelson and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler....all about children who are forced to depend only on themselves...my favorite childhood subject.

I only purchase books that receive high remarks on the store, so I'm not wasting my money. I read the reviews and agree that at first the book is slow but starts to pick up. I'm reading this book and hope my 10 year old will read it afterwards. I tell her that the character Katie is like her, she's almost 10, her parents are divorced, she lives on the 2nd floor in an apartment building that has a pool. She's new to the building and her real name is Katherine. my daughter's name is Katharine with an a instead of e. I would have hoped for a continuation of the book but, I'm not sure. It's a nice story and enjoying Katie and the other children finally meet and realize what special powers they have. I was just surprised that the parents didn't realize what happened and connect about their birthdays being on the same month.

The Book The Girl With The Silver Eyes is about a girl named Katie who has the ability to move things without touching them. She used to live with her Grandmother, but recently she died, so then she goes to live with her mother. She makes a few friends while living in the apartment with her mom. A while after Katie moves in a man named Mr. Cooper moves in. He seems like a nice man and Katie stars to become his friend. Then one day she finds out that Mr. Cooper is asking people questions about Katie. Katie gets worried and thinks that Mr. Cooper is a policeman and he thinks that Katie killed her Grandma, so runs away. She figures out that there are other children like herself and she goes out to find them. She finally finds them and the children tell her that Mr. Cooper doesn't want to arrest her. Her mother just thought that she had been murdered. Mr. Cooper tells them that he was asking question about Katie because he new she could do things that other people can't. He told all 4 kids that he has a special school for people like them and they can go there if they want.
I didn't like this book because I thought it was kind of strange when the book said, "Did she dare to stay in the apartment? Was it safe now that Mr. C had openly revealed himself as if a police officer investigating her grandmother's death?"(page 133) She didn't even sure why he was talking to people about her. I also didn't like the book that much because in my opinion the ending was bad. The author could have ended it with the children's decisions whether to go to the school or not. Although, she decided o end the story with telling the reader that the kids will all have fun together. Or she could have ended the book with a better, more creative, and more interesting ending.
I enjoyed reading this book because the story was pretty interesting. It kept me entertained with all of the things she did to people especially Mr. Pollard. I also liked it when she found all of the children who were like her. That way she wouldn't feel alone in the in the world and she would have some friends. That way she could talk to people about her abilities. When she first realized that there were people like her the book said, "Katie was so excited tat she nearly choked on a peanut butter sandwich."(page 60) I was glad to know that Katie was able to find people like herself.
My favorite part of the book was when she got to meet each child like herself. I was glad that she did find them because everyone deserves to have a friend and be happy. Before she met the other children, she was miserable because she had no one to talk to. She only could talk to her neighbor Mrs. Michealmas who was and older woman. It was good that she had someone to talk to, although she need someone her age to be around. Overall this book was o.k., but it was not my favorite.

The Girl with the silver eyes is a wonderful novel for girls or boys who are worried about being different. The message of the book rings loud and clear...people are mean to those they don't understand and they are afraid of what they don't understand.
The heroine,Katie, is different. She has silver eyes and special powers. While not frightened by her own "abnormalities", it seems that certain neighbors are very put out with her abilities to "move things". Katie, of course, enjoys her specialness, but wishes for someone to understand her unusual ways. She finds not one, but three other people affected in the same manner but realizes, that the "normal" world can enjoy her talents as soon as they stop being afraid of them, and see them as "gifts".
The reader is reinforced with a concept that "different" is only confusing and scarey when you don't understand the value of it.

This book was definitely different from other books I have read in a good way. Can you imagine what that must feel like? On peeks the problem: not being able to make friends, and another horrible thing happens right away. If you do not have patience, I do not suggest this book for you. You have to wait for all of the action to begin. However, it is worth the wait! I think it was funny how Katie¡¯s mom just simply refuses to say there is something wrong with Katie¡¯s eyes ¡ª said her eyes were just Grey (in her mother¡¯s way). This book is so capturing that I cannot even put the book down! I read this like in one day and I read it over and over and over and it was still interesting!

The Girl with the Silver Eyes

BY:WILLO DAVIS ROBERTS

Katie has silver eyes. Are they magic or just special? Well, there magic. How, she can move objects without touching the object. And at night she lies in bed and turns the light off while still in bed. Katie is one odd kid. But she can do something else. Read the book to find out.

I enjoy this book very much. Also if you like mysterius books. Read this book.
