I love the 44 Scotland Street series and have been waiting for this latest installment. It did not disappoint! It is important to read these books in order so don't read this one until you've read the preceding ones. You're in for a treat!

If you have read through the Scotland Street novels in order, you are by now used to the pattern. Please stay with McCall as he sets up the various strands of the story that come together, at the end, to make a fine fabric.
The Miracle at Speedy Motors (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series Book 9) :: Chocolate (Isabel Dalhousie Series) :: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror (Pine Cove Series) :: Bite Me: A Love Story (Bloodsucking Fiends) :: 44 Scotland Street (44 Scotland Street Series - Book 1)

The characters are interesting and entertaining- they seem like old friends as the story lines continue from book to book. These are not for the thrill seeker but will be enjoyed for a relaxing read. Love Mr. McCall Smith's writing.

Another satisfying read in the 44 Scotland Street series. We follow our familiar characters (friends) as they progress in their lives, Domenica's engagement, the arrival of the triplets, with some new twists. Bertie has his usual troubles with his overbearing mother, but has a new ally and we finally watch him get to be a real kid having fun.

Alexander McCall Smith has written another wonderful, funny, engaging book. His description of characters brings them to life. It is set in Edinburgh, Scotland which gives the reader the essence of the city.

The characters have such unique ways of getting into trouble, sometimes it seems hopeless that they will get out of it, but the results are always delightful. I always delight in Bertie gaining some ground over his woes as he inches ever toward 7.

Marvelous. I am now through six volumes of this series--isn't it a stroke of genius to banve Bruce slip on a tube of his fragrant hair gel and break his leg? (Opening the way for his roommate and Pat to begin something!) Anyway, I am now trying to get hold of vol. 8, Sunshine on Scotland Street.

The 44 Scotland Street series warms your soul. Bertie is the most charming child and I am always cheering for something wonderful to happen in his life. Alexander McCall Smith never lets a reader down, he leaves your heart smiling.

for me, the 44 Scotland Street series is the best of his work. Great charaters and some absurd storylines that all seem to work out in the end. But Bertie's mother coming good? i'll believe it if it's sustained in the next book.

I continue to marvel at McCall Smith's remarkable portrayal of little Bertie. Bertie is seemingly unaware of his brilliance or his precociousness, and we love him all the more for it. This series has a lot of love in it!
